v What dolly couples do you have?

 

^ Batman and Catwoman, Harley and Ivy, Joker and Punchline (Joker and Batman)- and that’s really it. My own characters tend to be in flux and so I don’t see them in couples… because the characters may end up together someday but probably not until they’ve gone gone through some drama, so the dolls - existing at any point in time - can’t really be “couples”. If that makes sense. My character dolls (DC) tend to follow the comics lol I ostracized Catwoman for awhile when she dumped Batman but they got back together so she’s back to being one of my favorites
Joker and Harley were my power couple for years but then I got Ivy and punchline so they broke up. Not sure what will happen to all those amazing matching outfits…

Do you have any doll couples?

 

^ My two primary dolls, Adhara and Guórén, are a couple, and all of the "2nd generation dollies" in the family are their children/wards, one way or another. However, in their L5R RPG incarnations (I'm still figuring out how to make it work in their Edo storyline), there is a third person in their relationship, Okuni. It's not so much a love triangle as a three-way love where all parties care for one another as more than friends. I'm also planning to give Isamu his long-awaited girlfriend this year, so he won't be in the lonely hearts club anymore, hopefully!

v What was the most difficult decision you had to make in the hobby, but one that ultimately paid off in the end?

 

^ in 2020 I decided to start selling. Before 2020 I think I’d sold maybe 4 heads, and maybe 3 dolls. After 2020 I went full revolving door, and sold anything I didn’t like, and the sales have ended for now, mostly, but deciding I could actually send out dolls I didn’t love, and bring home ones I did was incredibly hard to do, and scary, and frustrating (ask me sometime about the number of ghosts I met on Instagram) but ultimately it’s the reason I have so many dolls I love, and could afford them. It also helped me to feel like my ex wasn’t still here. I’d shelled a lot of mutual rp characters, and seeing those gone was incredibly cathartic as well.

<now if my other impulse girl could tell me who she was, that would be neat

V do you have any ongoing doll projects right now?

 

^ Does a dollhouse for my Real Puki count? It's definitely my biggest project for any of my dolls. There's also the making all my dolls a full wardrobe of clothes project, too.

> Storing the multiple sizes of tiny dolls and the MSDs clothes is becoming more challenging- I probably just need more clear storage bins.

V What is your system for storing your dolls' extra clothes. wigs, shoes, etc.?

 

^I use those snap cases, and I sort my clothes by size (Small or large--effectively does it go on an iple or an f60). My wigs go in the same kind of cases, but sorted in this case into wigs I made and wigs I bought, and then into 8/9 or "smaller" which is all 7/8 and a couple 6/7. Shoes are currently all in "shoe jail" because I haven't sorted them by size yet, so they're all in a bin. I also have a case for "misc resin" which is spare hands and the like. It's all pretty well sorted when things get put back where they're supposed to go which is sometimes. What I really need to do is get those spare boxes out of my closet.

<a dollhouse sounds super cool. One day when I have space, I want to make a couple rooms for my SDs, but that's... not a thing my parents' house has room for, understandably

V what's the one doll item or accessory you're always running out of (mine is shoes!)

 

^ Definitely shoes. I have a lot, but never ones i need for specific dolls.

< I have a DOD collecting problem. Another one is welcomed to the horde.

V do you prefer fantasy dolls, realistic dolls, or a mix of the two?

 

^ I greatly prefer realistic, albeit vinyl anime stylized realism. My MDD has magnetic elf ears, but it's not because he's an elf-- he's just chuuni LOL

< I have three days in Tokyo at the start of April. Will Wallet-kun regret the Volks store? Probably.

v Do you have doll Valentine's Day plans? If so, what are you thinking of doing?

 

^I’m spending my first Valentine’s Day single since I was 15. I’m celebrating by buying a buuuunch of discount heart-shaped chocolate, and taking pics of Amor, because she’s either aromantic, or grayromantic and I think that’s exactly the energy I want. That and, possibly getting sealant so I can work on Valentine’s faceup.

Val maintains there ought to be gifts for him, given that it’s Valentine’s Day, after all.

<maybe I’ll make that his birthday. Feb 14, and it’s a thing for him.

V Do you repeat sculpts in your collection?

 

^ Yeah, lol. I have 6 dolls and 3 of them are tan Bambicrony Emilys.

v How are your doll related New Year's resolutions going??

 

^Purchased one tiny doll this year, in January but waiting on another doll and one head ordered last year. So far I'm doing quite well in not adding to my already stuffed collection.

< I'm enjoying my autumn-ish winter temps.

v Do you have regular dolly time or is it whenever you can?

 

^ mostly it’s whenever I can. This week since I’ve been super busy with papers, there have been times I’ve taken dolls with me to work on my papers. Amor sitting beside me for a philosophy paper has so far been hilarious—I’m just picturing her going ‘wtf’ at half the theory. Since Valentine just got put together, I also took some time to dress him up, and I’m going to have to make him a wig, because I have too specific an idea of what he needs. I’m thinking of trying to block off Saturday evenings specifically as doll time.

<Valentine, ironically, would love my philosophy paper. He’s not one to sit around and write, and not someone who seems like he’d have time or the desire to read hundreds of pages of theory, but when the topic interests him, he’d be all over it. And since he’s immortal, he really does have the time.

V what’s the next skill you want to learn for doll crafting? Photography? Faceups? Sewing? Or something else?

 

^ I definitely want to learn how to make props for my dolls or furniture.

< I haven’t been here In so long!!!

v what is the most recent doll you have bought?

 

^ i was offered a Dream of Doll U/Yu when a different doll i wanted had already sold, so I jumped at the opportunity!

< i wish i had the motivation to take more photos. I really need to get back into it!!

v If there was any discontinued doll/closed company that you could bring back, what would it be?

 

^ Angel Battle. Not buying their SD skeleton BJD is one of the regrets of my life.

< That feel when your coworkers comment on how nice you look today, but you only wore a dress cause you have not done laundry in 3 weeks and it's literally the only thing you have left in the closet.

v Do you have any non-BJDs that you count as part of your group? Pets, off topic dolls, etc?

 

^ Yes, nendoroids, figma, revoltech and funko

< Need and desire are different things, I don't need a new doll... I have to stop looking for

v What is the biggest lie you have told to yourself in the hobby?

 

^ "You're never gonna get that doll, so you have to make do." No, I got that doll. First it was RD Frankenstein and Eva, and then the soom Cass body, and then any full twigling doll, and then Eloy after he was discontinued, and then Ingenieuse. And a lot of the dolls I got to "make do" and replace their characters didn't stick, or ended up as different characters. Hell, I was in love with Iple Carina (but one person's specific Iple Carina--she was one of the dolls that got me into the hobby!) and I got that specific Carina because the owner posted a feeler and I went "I can immediately empty my PayPal, is this amount enough?" and emptied my PayPal (and then some--I didn't have a lot of pp balance, this was before I was selling!) If you wait long enough, and look enough places, I pretty much think you can obtain any doll.

Mostly because I never even tried the "I just need one/two/five/etc." I knew that was going to be an issue.

V What got you into the hobby?

 

^ My inability to customize action figures to look like my OCs. I saw a BJD for the first time and thought I could work with that easier than western figures and I got one. THEN I didn't know what to do with him, so I joined DOA. It was only then I really realized it was a hobby, and I could more than just dress him up and use him as a drawing model - which was the original plan.

V Are there any dolls or doll that you really love that isn't your usual aesthetic? Do you have it or plan to get it someday?

 

^ Absolutely! I adore nearly everything done by Kanadoll but they're either too realistic or too cute to fit in (Mars, Eden, Jupiter). Rosettadoll leans cuter, with larger heads than the rest of my crew, but I own Agave and Zio. I wouldn't say no to Volks Mytyl either.

V Passing it down: are there any dolls or doll that you really love that isn't your usual aesthetic? Do you have it or plan to get it someday?

 

^ I don't know if this counts, but because my doll crew is primarily populated by large dolls (65-72cm average), fashion minis don't really fit in. However, my interest has been caught recently by certain dolls from the Iplehouse FID and SartoriaJ 45 Aph line. I'm... actually saving up to get two already, totally passing over two characters still waiting for their doll shells.

< Really hoping these investments pay off so I can have more dollie moolah several years from now!

v Is there something you didn't know you WANTED for your dolls until you actually saw the item (or pictures of it)?

 

^ Does an awesome pair of gold brocade boots that don't really suit any of my current MSDs count? I'm hoping the one I'm waiting on will be able to rock them.

> I don't normally go for pet dolls, and am thinking of selling the two anthros I have, but I couldn't resist Dream Valley's event wingless dragon Rubin.

V Do you own any pet dolls or anthros?

 

^ Only one! He's a Le Mouton en Sucre Mojito, and he's named after my late Chameleon, Loki (seen in my profile pic on me!) He was my beloved, and the preorder being right after he passed, in 2020 when everything was just starting to fall apart, it felt like he was able to stay with me. Doing his Box Opening was really emotional. Otherwise, I'm not suuuper into anthros/pets, but I need a raven for Vidania eventually, a snake for Lucifer's alt-form, and a large "service dragon" for Aura (who is likely going to be not resin, because I need a dragon big enough for a DD to ride, and the only one in that size range I know of is worth more than double what my car is--which is just out of budget for the foreseeable future.

V What is your favourite part of the hobby?

 

^ its between the community and the ability to express. I'm no artist by any means, but these dolls give me a creative outlet, and let me bring my characters to life in a way i could only do through writing before. And being able to geek out with fellow collectors about our favourite dolls and artists is always fun.

< stress is consuming my life and my dolls aren't helping me. Darn freeloaders are not doing their jobs.

V what is something you wish you knew/wish someone had told you when you first were introduced to bjds?

 

^ Sunlight is evil, especially for tan dolls. I did not protect my first doll, a tan Soo Uyoo from the sun well and she partially faded to greenish. No idea how to fix or hide it, so I may end up selling her.

< Sold another doll onto a new home recently. I hope he gets there safely.

V Ever done full body blushing on a doll?

 

^ While I've never blushed a doll myself, my tiny Ancient Tales Elva2 has the WORKS (faceup, full body blushing, mani/pedi) done by her artist. It's pretty, I'll give it that. But man, what a pain to maintain and keep dust-free! I simply don't think it's worth the investment on my larger dolls, who I handle regularly.

v If you could bring back a discontinued doll from one company, what would it be?

 

^ Souldoll Shiva but in different resin (as previously released in white, grey and tan) - Souldoll does occasionally release in metal pigmented resin and would love to have another Shiva in steel skin, or even a copper skin

> currently working out the logistics of making some large high stag horns 1/3 size and keeping them relatively light weight and thinking will attempt wire with foam light airdry clay (to be fully sealed, of course )

> what would be your dream, most unusual, fantasy resin colour (or type, or finish) ?

 

^ White, but opaque with glitter. I want the cringiest Twilight-inspired vampire girl in existence. And sparkles are good.
> I’m working on a yarn wig. I still don’t know entirely what I’m doing but it’s fun.
v What’s your current project?

 

^ I am trying to complete an outfit for my Iplehouse girl. It's a bit complicated because I have to be so mindful of her tattoos.
< I'm debating buying a body for my only floating head. I am procrastinating my decision by playing fun games!
v Do you have any dolls that you are considering, or any on their way to you?

 

^ After a few weeks at my new job, I plan on getting a body for my HTTdolls Bambee head. Poor guy keeps getting put on hold, and this year is the year!!

< I have too many doll heads that need bodies. Hopefully conventions are kind to me this year!

V What is something you told yourself you would never do in this hobby, and eventually ended up doing anyway?

Example: I told myself no more than 5 dolls. I am now WELL beyond that.

 

^ I told myself I would never buy a doll over $700...

< I just got done with taking pictures of my dolls and ended up with 15 mosquito bites

\/ Have you ever chipped/scratched/broken a doll? or maybe had a scare?

 

^ Thankfully I have never broken, scratched, or chipped a doll, but I did have a scare! One of my cats knocked a doll off my shelf which was about four feet from the ground and on carpet. Since the doll is an MSD and not as heavy as my SDs, she was only a bit disheveled when I arrived to the scene!

< I'm in the process of trying to figure out an outfit for the new doll I just ordered... it is harder than I expected!

v Do you prefer a large or small wardrobe for your dolls?

 

^ Small! I don't tend to change my dolls' outfits much at all, so really they all just have one default outfit. Same with wigs and eyes.

< Yay payday. Nevermind the money is all already spent...

v Do you have any recommendations for faceup artists?

 

^ Um, no...I have one person I go to for most of my faceups, but I'm not sure they'd want to be named, lol.

< I didn't think I'd get another vinyl doll but here we are...

v Resin or vinyl?

 

^ Resin. No vinyl doll has so far passed my aesthetics criteria for the size I want.

v What were you previously afraid to do in the hobby, but now do regularly?

 

^ Hmm, probably being open to change? Like changing their hair/eye color or their fashion without worrying that I've wasted my time.

v What is a tiny detail of one of of your dolls that you love?

^ Naran's new faceup has tiny freckles....theirs so faint but its like, once you notice them its just like :'o "aw"

v Glass eyes or resin/plastic?

 

^ I used to only like glass, but now I see so many gorgeous resin eyes I can't say I have a preference anymore!

v Is there something that you swore you'd never do when you first started out in the hobby that you eventually did?

 

^ I swore I'd never make eyes, thought it was too difficult and now I do, though I tend to make creepy or unusual eyes.

> Since spring is here I think I'll finish my 1/6th scale winter diorama, so when it gets hot I can at least pretend it's chilly

v Do you have doll couples?

 

^ I do have some couples! Amelia and Henry (Feeple60 Juri16 and Impldoll Bosco) are a lovely husband and wife pair of vampires. The Emperor and Empress (Ringdoll K and Impldoll Candice) are textbook madly in love, despite a bit of a scandal since the Empress used to be a servant. The last "couple" are more antagonistic to each other, Layre and Endellion (Dragonshell Doll Capricorn and Resinsoul Rui boy) competing court wizards who were rivals in school and now a couple hundred years later are trying to pretend they don't find the other one attractive and that they absolutely hate spending time with each other and definitely don't enjoy secret smooches or anything.

< Speaking of Endellion, I really hope he arrives soon. I'm about at the end of Resinsoul's projected waiting time. I'm dying to see their purple resin.

v Where's your favorite place to take pictures of your dolls?

 

^ so I don't really have anywhere anymore. Partly because I moved to bigger dolls so it's just harder to tote them around for photos. I used to bring them to work all the time, but post pandemic I just haven't. And my office is a mess. There isn't really any room anymore. And my appartment doesn't even have a blank wall to put them against
I might start taking them out in the back again...but most of my dolls characters should be in cities not nature lol and that kind of bothers me.

^ I bought a zuzu delf a few months ago, my first new doll in years... then promptly ordered two more on mandarake. No more online shopping for me for a while orz

> I'm terrible at knitting but for some reason the repetitive motion is addictive to me, although I wish I was working on something more productive.

v What is your favorite and least favorite part of styling your dolls?

 

^ Placing eyes. I can never get it right, they always end up wonky. IDK if its me or if the eyewells are just uneven but it always ends up a bit wonky.

< Work is draining me. I miss my dolls and want to play with them but i am just so tired.

V Do you have characters for your dolls? If so, how do you make your characters?

 

^ I do! Most of my dolls tend to be characters I've played in RPs for years (or in some cases, the partner of my character). I generally tend to go character first, then doll. The dolls I've bought without a character in mind just tend to be pretty, haha

< I need to set up more photos but it's been so dreary lately. Can't wait for some sunshine

v Do you feel like you've reached your limit in number of dolls? If not, how many do you think would be your max?

 

^ Definitely. I have two characters I want - one I just need to reshell, I'm not happy with him at all - and a third that needs a body, and after that I really don't want more dolls. I'd love to sell a few but I hate selling these days, and it's too much trouble lol. Also I don't know which I'd even sell, so it's really just a fun dream

V passing it on: Do you feel like you've reached your limit in number of dolls? If not, how many do you think would be your max?

 

^ Pretty much. I've only bought one in the past 2 years. I hear you on the selling. I have a few I'd let go of if I thought I'd get anything for them, but it's not really worth the hassle.

v What's your favorite oddly specific accessory you've been able to find for one of your dolls?

 

^ A tiny broom I bought as a souvenir in BC. It's great for my little goblin lady.

> I want to answer this too! My current limit is ten, but part of me wants to count tinies separate, lol. I have plans for three more bigguns and hopefully that's it. The thing limiting me on tinies is what I want doesn't seem to exist!

v What's a doll you want that doesn't exist?

 

^ Oh man, there are so many things, but what I want the most would be a chubby dollfie dream, like of super pochaco. I just think a chubby character would look so good with a material that is more soft and squishy than resin, but I doubt it'll ever happen.

v Is there something you would change about your favorite doll that you can't bring yourself to alter?

 

^ I would love to change his faceup, but it just suits him so well, and its so pretty so I'll deal.

v What is more important to you: wigs, eyes, or clothes/shoes?

 

^ Wigs are the most important - they can change their looks entirely.

< I am stressed out because I have a box from Iplehouse that's been in Customs for four months.

v Do you prefer your dolls to all be the same size ratio or do you just buy what you like no matter what?

 

^ I'd like them to all be the same scale (or scales, as there are MSDs in my collection now along with the mature tinies), and I do try to have some scale consistency, but the the many different companies my dolls come from makes it a bit of a hodge-podge of scales and styles.

< I thought I only wanted one more tiny, but Granado just released two more I really like. I've been meaning to sell a few without bringing in a bunch more! I'm waiting on two orders as it is.

V Do you prefer to buy or make your dolls' clothes?

 

^ I have to buy doll clothes. I can't sew at all, it always ends up a bit wonky.

< con season is coming up and i don't know what doll/dolls to bring with me

v What is your favourite thing about the doll hobby?

 

^ I like to take pictures of the dolls. And organize. And make clothes.

< BJDC still hasn't released their contests for the year. I need time!

v What is your favorite doll company/artist?

 

^ So far, probably Dream Valley, though I haven't dug too deeply into many companies to know too much! They have some fun fantasy models though.

< I should go find dinner instead of browsing the forums, lol.

v Do you have any dolls with scars (carved in the sculpt or painted on)?

 

^ Several of my dolls have scars (mostly temp raised glue ones, but one of them I permanently modded with apoxie). Guórén has keloid scars on his left cheek, Isamu has scars over his right eye that he had tattooed to look like radiating roots, and while not a scar per se, Kōkichi has a masklike birthmark over most of his upper face. Adhara herself is supposed to have scars over the entire length of her left arm, but it's such a pain to maintain compared to facial scars, I eventually just removed them and made her some arm warmers instead.

v What was the shortest wait time you'd have to deal with for a pre-order doll?

 

^ i ordered my Angel of Dream Shi on July 10 of last year, he was not in stock, he shipped out on the 30th, and then arrived home on August 12. So it took a little over a month from creation to doorstep!

v Reversing the question! What is the Longest wait time you had to deal with for a pre-ordered doll?

 

^ Well, I'm waiting on my first order ever right now, so that's technically my longest! It's a projected 4 month wait, so we'll see how close to that it actually is.

< My cats seem to think the little area for my doll I'm setting up is just for them.

v Do you have a theme you tend to stick to (fantasy, lolita, one gender, etc) or are your dolls all over the place?

 

^ I mean, I have fantasy but modernish in one crew, I have the hell crew, and the vampire crew, which intermix, and also intermix with the more loosely fantasy dnd gang. But they’re theoretically 3 separate universes, split into 6 planes. So there are themes to each of those. But also sometimes I decide I want a doll and I have no idea what verse I want to put her in, and i blur the edges a bit. Lilith/ingenieuse before taking a lead role in my vampire Universe was doubling as Luna in my 4 worlds universe, and almost ended up as Liriel in my dnd/hell verse. So any doll who fits in a fantasy-ish, dark/gothy vibe fits in across all the universes I work in.

<man no one told me working 6 days a week was this much work.

V what’s the one feature you are pickiest about in your dolls? What’s the one feature you don’t care about when you choose dolls?

 

^ My pickiest feature is that I want my dolls to be human. No fantasy dolls for me. What I am least pickiest about is doll size. I like the anywhere between 1/10 to 70+cm.

< I really want to start my channel up again, but I am waiting on a pair of shoes and a wig for one doll, and another wig for another doll, and I just want them to be perfect for their debut.

v I am really curious, is there any type of doll that you wouldn't own? Maybe a size you don't like, or you don't like teeth, maybe it's the aesthetic of a certain company, something like that?

 

^ I don't think I'd ever own a centaur doll. There are some gorgeous centaur dolls out there, but an aspect to dolls I enjoy is the dress up. With centaur dolls, they don't have as many outfit options due to the nature of the design. Not to mention they're always tend to be out of my budget.

< I bought another doll for the first time in 4 years today! I'm excited to be making progress towards getting involved with this hobby again.

v What fantasy race (orcs, gorgons, ogres, etc.) that you don't usually see in dolls would you like to see more often?

 

^ Skeletons!! I really want an SD sized skeleton BJD.

< I'd also love a clear resin gemstone person-like doll!

v What is your wish for a doll that doesn't exist yet?
