      Description
Most of the forum staff have been in the hobby for several years - this is more than enough time to either acquire amazing doll-related skills or repurpose existing skills to suit the doll hobby. Many of our Moderators and Virtues can sew, paint, sculpt, make jewelry, or take amazing photos!

This contest is a talent show for the forum staff to spend a month focusing their unique doll skills into a final product - be it an involved photostory, a unique outfit, an interesting modification, or something completely different! Blend your skills, interest, and knowledge to create something wonderful.

      Entry Details

      Who May Enter?
This contest is open to all Moderators, Virtues, and Wiki Angels. Except Armeleia, who will cast the deciding vote in the event of a tie. (Armeleia may play along for fun, but may not win the prize).

      Specifications

Each moderator can submit one entry, though it can be comprised of many components.

Pictures must be submitted in JPEG format. If they are larger than 600px on one side, please submit a thumbnail so that we can post pics without stretching everyone's screens.

Entries will be accepted from 12:01am EST August 1st to 11:00pm EST to August 15th. Entries received after this time will be disregarded; if you do not know what time this is where you are, please consult a time zone converter website.

Entries will be submitted using a form that will become available in August.

Entries cannot be posted elsewhere, but please update the progress journals thread using this form! [link once form is made]

      Voting

Entries will be posted for member voting from August 20th-August 27th. Votes will be submitted and tallied privately using a new feature in the forum software. The totals will be made available on completion of voting.

Entries will be posted with the entrants' names because we all have rather recognizable skills... so anonymity is really rather impossible anyway.

      Prizes

The first prize for this contest will be an awesome signature graphic, bragging rights, and a bag of Cereal Marshmallows!

    2. Gyaaa... It's truffle again... I hope I can reply in here? *^^* Good luck to all participants... all Mods, Virtues, and Wiki Angels who are going to enter!!! :3

    3. everybody outta my way! i had NO IDEA you could by CEREAL marshmallows. I can turn ordinary cheerios into a thing of wonder! I NEED THIS PRIZE.

      NEED.

    4. LMAO!!!!!
I'm still laughing at this. Good luck to everyone as well stated by Fransyung!
Especially those who really want those marshmallows!

    5. Good luck to all our lovely forum staff! I'm really looking forward to all your creativity and getting to vote on the pretties. :)

    6. Oh, it's been so quiet here, I'm really curious to see what everyone's been up to. It's sure to be an impressive show!

    7. I'm really looking forward to seeing the entries!! They will be amazing, I'm sure. :)

    8. Aww, can we vote for all of you?
I'm gonna have a hard time choosing, I
      know I will!

    9. Full entries plan to go live tomorrow and then yes- members will be able to vote! For the glory of the marshmallows!

    10. And not just any old marshmallows ... CEREAL marshmallows. The tension is thick! A lot's at stake. :)

    11. I just read through the journal, and there are no words.

I'm deeply humbled by all the talent, humor, and procrastination. ;) In all seriousness, you gals are capital I Incredible!

BoH, I'm in love with your Pukipelma lividum! :aheartbea

    12. OMG - What I wouldnt give to have Ramen and Sake one night with all of you in the same room!!! I'd lose 10 pounds just laughing my *ss off at your humor....... The talent level is seriously amazing - you guys are rocking awesome!!!

    13. Thanks, it was really great for all of us to get together and work on projects to celebrate the anniversary and focus on what all of this is really all about:

      Marshmallows. CEREAL marshmallows.

    14. Yes it was definitely a fun project for a special 7th anniversary and fellow staff are awesome in their humor.

Cereal marshmallows for breakfast so much more fun than healthy granola!

Whitewings ramen and sake sounds like a recipe for a fun night

    15. Who said anything about breakfast? Cereal marshmallows are good any time of day! Why, if I had a romantic dinner date, I could casually pull out my marshmallow bag when the food is served and sprinkle them over the vichyssoise as I explain in great detail all about my BJD collection. ('Actually it stands for ball-jointed doll…') Surprisingly though, I haven't got any dates lined up.

    16. *ROFL*........

    17. That's because you have to ply them with sake and cereal marshmallows, Dez.

    18. I hope you win, dear Dezarii, as it sounds like your romantic future is on the line. ;)

    19. And the ramen, SJ! Sheesh. No wonder nobody's lined up. Ditch the vichyssoise. It's all about the ramen, Dez.

It's one thing when you work with a bunch of intelligent women (staff just happens to be women right now) who volunteer their time out of love for the hobby, but it's an entirely different experience when you get to share projects ... the frustrations, the anticipation, the commiseration, the brainstorming. It really does put a whole new spin on "community." It was more than worth it for the progress journal alone.

    20. Ramen AND sake - ftw!!!

It was HUGELY humbling to watch my fellow doll aficionados take projects from Inception to Completion!! What a talented group. (I break out in a rash at the thought of competition and participated out of a desire to show D how to shoot in-focus, I mean, to support the insane (?) talents of the group.)

      Brava, ladies, brava!

    21. You think I can't shoot in focus? I can totally shoot in focus. Practically every shot had at least one piece of lint, cat fur, random string or stray wig hair highlighted gloriously in the sharpest focus you could ever hope to see, with an enchanting bokeh effect of the doll behind it.

I don't drink alcohol, so I suppose sake must be what I'm missing. Perhaps DoA will drive me to drink after all.

    22. *giggles* I can't wait to see what you guys have come up with! XD

    23. Pukipelma lividum! That's perfect xD I might have to steal that in the future ^_~ I have more shoots I would love to do.

That's okay Dez- we can sit in the corner together, watching in amusement as the sake takes hold on everyone else!

But fourthing (?) that it was great to see everyone's work come together. Both in the staff contest and in the other contests there's been some amazing work done this year and it was a pleasure to finally be able to contribute some work myself. Anniversary season is a magical time of year in resin land~

    24. Drink alcohol??? I thought it was ramen cooked in sake...cuz you know, cooking booze makes it un-booze-like. I think.

    25. I was just humbled to see everybody's skills, especially with the taking of the pretty pics and the making of the beautiful things -- two talents I do not have *is jealous*.

And the glorious cereal marshmallows, which I'm thinking could also be hot chocolate marshmallows . . .

    26. The Talent Show Entries are up for voting.

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?467845-The-Talent-Show-VOTING

ETA: I accidentally left my own number in the voting options (lots of copying and pasting). Don't bother voting for me, I can't win. You'll just be throwing your vote away, much like voting anything other than Democrat or Republican in any major American election. ;)

    27. OMG, I was reading the journal last night. I couldn't stop laughing. You guys (er, gals) are hysterical! I agree it would be a fun thing to sit in a room with all of you bantering back and forth.

Now I must go see the final results and decide which of you gets the marshmallows. You all deserve them but I read only one of you can have them. (Although the link to that site... XD my wallet is cowering in the corner for yet more abuse of it.)

      LM

    28. Ooops. I totally forgot not to vote for armeleia :doh

:sweat There were SO MANY entries I loved, I just found that video to be so amazingly informative my brain went to research it some more and forgot to remind me armeleia can't win so there's no point voting for her X3

    29. You guys all did such a great job! I really enjoyed reading threw all of it! And the end results were amazing!

I just have to add...I think that spidertar has broken my Arachnophobia... >.< Now just wait until I run into one again! I'll be eating those words...

    30. I voted last night and did not see the don't-vote-for-armeleia post until this a.m., but that's okay, it's a wonderful video--love the musical accompaniment. It's great to learn something about this hobby that I mostly just spend money on, rather than skill and effort (except for triathlon time which pretty much makes up for the rest of the year).

    31. I am in total awe you guys did not make it easy. Holy crud you managed all of this, and also to keep track of our wild antics all over the forum and day jobs. Your nuts but very appreciated, also... truffle preparing for the show, kept me smiling all day. and trust me I needed it! I really loved the progress journals it was so cool to watch how it all unfolded!

    32. Yes!!! I thought the exact same thing. XD Next time I see a spider, I'm totally going to try and visualize it as a cute & friendly half-Puki...although my paralyzing fear will still probably win out in the end. :sweat

Amazing entries, all. ::insert applause emoticon here! ^_^:: It was fun reading through the journals, and every one of the final products is awesome in its own way. I really love them all, but my absolute fav is the moth photoshoot. The pictures have so much emotion, and so does the story they convey. Really nice. <3

    33. Dez: You can always just splash your face with the sake. The stuff is great for your skin. I prefer dunking in it than drinking it sometimes.

I for one felt so humbled that rest of you guys planned and finished your original concepts. I kept on running intoproblems and changing original ideas because it wasn't turning out right. All in all I think it was fun and informative. I for one am bad with competition but I do love working within deadlines.

I learned I need to improve the skill of getting the right thing out of focus in a photo. ;) Thanks to newly discovered species I'm a little less arachnophobic

    34. I laughed so hard... OMG... Now I want to know who's winning those marshmallows! XDDDD Voted!! May the best girl wins!

    35. Wash your face with sake? Sounds like something Ke$ha would do before a night out.

E, pop on over to my place anytime and I'll cook you up a bowl of sake-infused ramen.

Everyone's entries were really fabulous and I'm certainly humbled to be amongst such talented people. I don't really see why Armeleia's votes shouldn't count even if she (for some crazy reason) doesn't want the divine sugary sweetness that will be bestowed upon the winner.

I do want to point out though that some among us might not have the delicate palate necessary to appreciate such a treat. I'm not going to put down any particular contestant, I'm just going to point out that this sage expert attests that 'Though it's not going to kill them, dogs have no need for sugar or sweets.'

    36. I am willing....to come over, D, if you draw a bath of sake. With bubbles. And you can cook ramen or whatever you like whilst I soak. No cats, please, in the bathroom - they tend to stare.

    37. Glad to be helping the arachnophobia! Or.. at least not causing more of it!

    38. Well this is just great. Now I have to read all the journals!!

I am so blown away by all the entries. Really wonderful stuff here... Although I have to admit that Truffle's Rending video is a real highlight for me! Who knew Rending was such hard work!?!

    39. If Truffle can't eat marshmallows I'm sure she'd look darling with a marshmallow collar and/or headdress :)

    40. I... I want to disagree with you, but you're so right.

ok everybody, vote for Truffle! :truffle

(Wait, where's the Truffle emoticon!? Surely that's not right?)

    41. If you haven't already, please go vote for your favorite entry! Voting closes tonight at 11pm EST.

Also PLEASE remember that you can only vote for each entry in ONE category. If you vote for the same entry for all three categories, the entry still only gets 1 point!

    42. May the best adorable Pom win!

    43. Dang skippy!

(VOTE FOR ME!!! I am furry! And multi-talented!)

    44. Don't vote for Truffle! I don't even want to think of how hyper she'd be after eating 7 oz of cereal marshmallows. >_< Horrible little animal.

ETA: Also, it appears that you can only order these marshmallows in 2 packs... therefore both first and second place will receive a prize!

    45. Bathing, washing AND cooking in Sake..... with Cereal Marshmallow Garnish...... FYI - I just ordered a carton..... Cereal Marshmallows + Sake = Win.....

I totally forgot to vote LOL - I thought I had another day..... XD

    46. Apparently I missed the voting period, but I loved looking at all the entries anyway! You all did great, and I love how funny you all are!
