I made a new BJD tag! I've been a bit frustrated with the state of my doll related items lately, so thought I would give myself an excuse to talk about it through a tag video. I was lucky to have a friend join me while I was filming, which made it so much more fun! Here are the questions, feel free to answer any/all of them here on this thread if you like Confession time! List the ways that you are messy in this hobby. What do you find the hardest to keep tidy? How do you store your bjd clothes/props/etc? Please share what you do, and offer any tips! Do you have your dolls out on display? If yes, do they have a permanent space, or do you move them around? Have you ever bought something for your dolls, and it ended up with a different purpose? Unfinished projects or WIP's that have to be left out can sometimes be considered messy. Is there anything you are working on at the moment that is taking up more space than it should? Is there anything you would love to do with your dolls, but can't due to space? If you feel like responding via video on YouTube, please let me know so I can watch it
My desk is a heap of piles but the doll craft room is pretty organised with labeled boxes. (its also my wardrobe so ‘room” is a bit of an overstated thing) But they are pretty full so there is a pile of bags and cardboard boxes in my room filled with stuff I need to order. Too little time. I store my clothes in plastic bins but I don’t have things that can get really wrinkled. But I am a total mess. Wigs are stored on a board where I have inserted sticks in and a styrofoam ball on the end. I make my own so I am pretty carefull with them. My dolls are standing on a dressoir right now untill I can put up shelves for them in my bedroom
I never clean up my face up making/sewing messes in like a week after finishing. I'm super strict that the resin itself never sees daylight unless necessary, but when it comes to everything else, I just leave my doll stuff lying on tables/floor if I am not in a hurry to do something with it. I have miscellaneous plastic bags full of resin spare parts in my closet, waiting for me to find safe storage space for them. Our storage basement has a wobbly huge pile of doll shippers and boxes propped up against the wall, right on top of the washing machine. I have one big basket where all my doll clothes and wigs are stored, and it is very difficult in all the ways possible - what I need is always on the bottom, the wigs leave hair on the clothes and get messy, and the shoes become flat as pancakes. I'm currently looking to get a space for these too, but our apartment is small (3 bedrooms out of which two are our office rooms and somehow we have two huge sofas) so unless we give away some furniture to fit storage cupboards etc, it might be difficult. Space is also the reason I cannot have dioramas/furniture for my SDs even though I would love to make them some kind of a living room. I currently only have one sofa for them. I actually have an unfinished SD shirt hanging out on my table right now. I haven't managed to get back to it since I started, which must be 2 weeks ago now. I often buy/make things for my dolls with a certain doll in my mind, but the item ends up with a completely different doll. One of my girls has just started to hoard all the black clothes and gives away all her colorful ones in return.
Confession time! List the ways that you are messy in this hobby? I have always been a messy person in many ways, so ofcourse that it also shows in my love for bjds. I make a temporary mess when I do faceups, when I re-string dolls, or suade them. I also make a mess when I dress them or unbox them. What do you find the hardest to keep tidy? The hardest to keep super tidy are the props for my SD 70+cm dolls. I like big dolls and they need big furniture and props...so they take a lot of space. How do you store your bjd clothes/props/etc? Please share what you do, and offer any tips! To store my doll's props, clothes, wigs, and shoes, I store them in big, clear plastic containers with lids that I am able to stack up to save space. Because these containers are clear, I am able to see what they contain. The props for my 1/4 and 1/6 dolls fit nicely into the tote containers, but not my 1/3 props. Do you have your dolls out on display? If yes, do they have a permanent space, or do you move them around? Currently I have some of my collection on display. I have the top shelf of my closet lined up with some of my 1/3 dolls, and I also have a table in the office with other dolls of various sizes. For now, they all have a permanent space and I don't move them from there. Have you ever bought something for your dolls, and it ended up with a different purpose? It's a very funny question for me because while I have not bought items for my dolls that I have used for something else, I have bought items for myself that have ended being used exclusively for/by my dolls. Hair accessories, dollar store trinkets, and jewelry boxes are amongst the worst offenders here. Unfinished projects or WIP's that have to be left out can sometimes be considered messy. Is there anything you are working on at the moment that is taking up more space than it should? Currently I am not working on any projects due to my work schedule as a teacher, but I'm hoping to work on some faceups during longer holiday breaks like spring or summer vacation. Is there anything you would love to do with your dolls, but can't due to space? I would love to display my 1/3 dolls in room-like dioramas, but the limited space and my pets prevent me from doing just that.
My craft supply storage... I don't have a dedicated spot for crafts or any real place for specific storage. I keep my supplies and scraps in some old wine boxes up in my closet. I also keep my clothes and props in a small cardboard box. Not too messy but the boxes themselves are woefully unorganized. I have a wig I'm working on set up on a table and I'm not going to bother vacuuming until I finish it. It's probably only going to take another day of work to finish it up anyway. My dolls have a place on my bookshelf for when I'm not moving them around but right now I have one on my bed and another one hanging out on my couch haha. So they're all over. One day If I ever have the space I'd love to do a big diorama room box but I really don't have the room for that sort of thing.
Confession time! List the ways that you are messy in this hobby. All my accessories are nicely packed, but spread all over my room What do you find the hardest to keep tidy? Keeping all the extra parts and clothes in one space. All my stuff is small but somehow they've spread over my entire room. How do you store your bjd clothes/props/etc? Please share what you do, and offer any tips! Everything is either in ziplock bags or small cases. All my pukipuki hands are in a case that used to hold multiple sets of ear plugs. Do you have your dolls out on display? If yes, do they have a permanent space, or do you move them around? Permanent. I have an ikea Deltof curio my yosd size are in and my pukis are in a lantern next to my bed Have you ever bought something for your dolls, and it ended up with a different purpose? Not really. The lantern was meant for my first yosd, but it was too small. So now it's my puki pad. Unfinished projects or WIP's that have to be left out can sometimes be considered messy. Is there anything you are working on at the moment that is taking up more space than it should? Poor Volks Rinons dress. I got the under dress done and lost steam. So the over dress is in various stages of cutting. Is there anything you would love to do with your dolls, but can't due to space? I'd love a bookcase to fill with dioramas for my yosd size dolls. But where renting and there just isn't enough space for that here.
Hey, I loved your video thanks for coming up with the tag! I don't make videos ATM so I'll reply here 1. Confession time! List the ways that you are messy in this hobby. -Not that I couldn't be more organized but I don't think the way I keep my dolls is messy. My ideas for how to customize them is definitely a mess. I can't decide where to start and I have a lot of ideas for them. But physically, they are in a cabinet nicely tucked into their boxes for the most part. Ah, except the ones that are in the other room 2. What do you find the hardest to keep tidy? -The eyeballs. It seems like I have a lot of extra eyeballs and whenever I have them contained I get more and then they don't fit in that container anymore lol. 3. How do you store your bjd clothes/props/etc? Please share what you do, and offer any tips! -Right now I don't have much clothes, so either the doll is wearing the item or it is in the box with the doll. My eyes are in a about 4'x4'x2.5' box, except there are some that came in nice little boxes so they are alongside the bigger box. It's not a great solution. Again I don't have much for props so any props are kept with the doll they belong to in their box. Wigs are the same, I just try to keep it on the doll if I can. I used to keep stuff in a shoe box, but didn't like that. (Love that box your friend has for her wigs!!) 4. Do you have your dolls out on display? If yes, do they have a permanent space, or do you move them around? -Not really. I put my maskcat doll feline into a bowl we have out. 5. Have you ever bought something for your dolls, and it ended up with a different purpose? -Nope. 6.Unfinished projects or WIP's that have to be left out can sometimes be considered messy. Is there anything you are working on at the moment that is taking up more space than it should? -I certainly have been in that position, but not right now. 7.Is there anything you would love to do with your dolls, but can't due to space? -Absolutely. I would like to get/make them furniture and make displays for them. I really don't have any good place to do face ups especally to spray the sealant, so that is an obstacle.
Confession time! List the ways that you are messy in this hobby. Oh how am I messy... Let me count the ways. I have tons of WIP projects that I start and then never finish. I leave trails of my projects all over the house. I can rarely even see my desk. My closet is a mess. Everything is just in one of two drawers, on a certain shelf or a big plastic bin. What do you find the hardest to keep tidy? My desk How do you store your bjd clothes/props/etc? Please share what you do, and offer any tips! Props are all over the place. The clothes are in a large shallow drawer. I have no tips.... I need tips.... xD Do you have your dolls out on display? If yes, do they have a permanent space, or do you move them around? Not on display as such, but they are out most of the time, because I play with them. Have you ever bought something for your dolls, and it ended up with a different purpose? I have bought clothes for one doll, only to have them claimed by another. Unfinished projects or WIP's that have to be left out can sometimes be considered messy. Is there anything you are working on at the moment that is taking up more space than it should? Yeah. My dollconDK projects are cluttering everything up. Is there anything you would love to do with your dolls, but can't due to space? I'd love to have a doll/diorama room in my house, but that isn't really realistic at this point in time.
Confession time! List the ways that you are messy in this hobby. I have a terrible time keep my sewing mess under control. I have a pile of fabric waiting to be made into clothes I've planned. That's beside two bins of fabric that I'll use "someday". There are clipped threads all over my craft room as well as bits of fabric. What do you find the hardest to keep tidy Extra resin parts. Things like hands, , tails, and I have two boys with extra magnetic penis parts. I never know where to put them. Do I leave them in each doll's box or put them in a divided case. How do you store your bjd clothes/props/etc? Please share what you do, and offer any tips! BJD clothes are seperated by doll into those plastic zipper bags that sheets and things ( even underwear) come in. They're heavy plastic and I feel like they protect them better than a lot of ways. Those are placed in open bins so they're easy to get to. Eyes, wigs and shoes are in Dewalt tool divided carrying cases.Small props are too. Larger props (furniture, swings, garden stuff , etc) are sitting an a shelf. Do you have your dolls out on display? If yes, do they have a permanent space, or do you move them around? All my dolls are on display. The MSDs have an apartment setup that they stay in and my SDs have room in progress. I'm planning an apartment for them too. I play with them a lot but they go back to their places when I'm done. Have you ever bought something for your dolls, and it ended up with a different purpose? A necklace became a multi-wrap bracelet. A belt became wrist and arm bands. Unfinished projects or WIP's that have to be left out can sometimes be considered messy. Is there anything you are working on at the moment that is taking up more space than it should? I could go on and on. A wardrobe for the MSD's has been out for several months. A bathroom sort of roombox for the MSDs. I have a try table with handsewing beside my desk. Is there anything you would love to do with your dolls, but can't due to space? Build them a proper house.
I'm going to be making a YouTube video in response to this tag. My YouTube channel name is Geekachu. Should be posted today or tomorrow.
1. Confession time! List the ways that you are messy in this hobby. I cannot organise my doll clothes and accessories in a neat way. The clothes always end up as a messed up pile in a box. 2. What do you find the hardest to keep tidy? The doll clothes and accessories! 3. How do you store your bjd clothes/props/etc? Please share what you do, and offer any tips! I am currently storing them in big plastic boxes, which is the reason everything gets messy. I feel like I should buy maybe smaller containers inside them to organise everything in more neat way. 4. Do you have your dolls out on display? If yes, do they have a permanent space, or do you move them around? I do have them on display, they have a small stand where I display them permanently. I used to have a diorama for them, but I had to take it down due renovation and now it does not fit in my apartment anymore. 5. Have you ever bought something for your dolls, and it ended up with a different purpose? Many things, especially accessories might have been for one thing, but they end up in a DIY project. 6. Unfinished projects or WIP's that have to be left out can sometimes be considered messy. Is there anything you are working on at the moment that is taking up more space than it should? Not right now, but if I am doing bigger DIY projects, such as backgrounds or props for photographs I tend to leave the craft materials on my table or floor until the project is finished. 7. Is there anything you would love to do with your dolls, but can't due to space? I would love to build a huge diorama, but I do not have a space for it as I am living in a studio apartment with a pet lizard that has big enclosure. I prioritise to give the extra space for my pet. Hopefully someday.
1. Never completed projects related to BJDs 2. Everything 3. My type are metal rods and clothes hangers and labeled paper drawers, but I can't keep things organized in them 4. My dolls are partly on the sofa on the floor, partly in carrier bags and partly in drawers (the white one especially) 5. Yes, shoes are a pain. I buy them for one doll and they end up elsewhere. That's normal. 6. Better no comment. I'd have to be angry with myself. 7. I'd like to build a loft diorama for SDs, but... I love to keep props and clothes in order and everything organized, but I can't maintain it. Cleaning is my nightmare. So my dolls' stuff is everywhere. The original idea was rods for hangers, but I have more stuff than rod space in my closet, so there are drawers, a furniture closet, and also a floor, BJD sofa where I put everything that doesn't fit in the closets. Occasionally I'll give the dolls something to hold so I don't have to clean up the props. It's killing me. I'd like to have everything perfectly organized, but the result is that you open a drawer labeled BJD garden and find wine, a chainsaw, and socks. Same with the other drawers.
Whenever I'm working on something, I'll leave everything out there until I'm done, or else I forget to finish. Anything that's loose. Heads, body parts and such. I have them in a box with dividers. Don't have that many since I have two dolls, so I guess I have it easy. Mine are permanently on display on one shelf in my wardrobe, and I sometimes change their positions, but don't really move them out of there. Other than a shoe in the wrong size, not really. Not right now, but I'm planning to redo a certain faceup and can already tell it will. Really want to build a nice diorama to display them, but don't have the space.
