The importance of clean

This debate is fascinating because it's exactly the same one I know I'm going to see in YouTube comments when someone in a video touches an old manuscript without gloves on! 100% of the time, I'll scroll down and see someone saying THEY'RE NOT WEARING GLOVES D: D: D: D: Which means I get to reply with what I learned in my Master's program, "the damage caused by reduced dexterity far outweighs any harm that might be caused by skin oils." (If it's a heavily handled document, gloves might be needed, and we're talking about resin and not parchment/paper here. But my point remains!) I don't think we talk enough about how much more butterfingered people on average tend to get with gloves on. Resin should be handled with care, but I honestly think the best way to do that is at my most dexterous, which is with freshly washed bare hands.
