I loved your entry, especially the wig! I think I voted for it for most creative materials. I would have never thought of such a thing working for a wig but it looked so cool and worked well with your doll’s aesthetic!
Everyone was so creative! Congrats to the winners, your entries were all stunning. I was Harpy, the Greek/Roman inspired Soom Alk(bird).
I really liked your concept, and how all three rounds went together so well! That cracked ground in the diorama is really cool!
@CloakedSchemer, Thank you. ^^; when I did the wig my first thought was do an angel-character of some type, but I wanted to challenge myself with the outfit and the character's outfit changed. The crater he's standing in is an actual sculpted crater.
Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me, I am so humbled by all the love my entries received Also congratulations to each and every one who took part in the competition this year! It was way harder than I imagined it would be, and for once I was grateful to be a dolly hoarder, especially since some of the materials that went into any of the three stages have been sitting in my crafting boxes for ages I rewatched at least three seasons of Project Runway in the third stage and also might have seen the dawn on the night before the deadline for the diorama. It was a long long crafty night. It was really difficult to narrow down my votes, especially for the last part, as everyone did such a great job with their entries! Being a doll hoarded saved me again and allowed me to go slightly over the top and baroque it all up. Having said all that, I'm not sure I'd do it again, but I'm extremely proud of the end result.
Well deserved congratulations to the winners! And very well done to everyone who finished this year! The three rounds were different enough to make for a very tough challenge! And big well done to everyone who gave it a shot this year, some of the entries that ended up dropping out were so ridiculously creative that I was really sad not to see them continue. Somehow despite my truly terrible slightly out of focus photos during the final round I scored well enough to come sixth overall which I'm pretty damned pleased with - my entry was the petite clown doll with the monochrome outfit, paned slops, and theatre diorama (most of which is now disassembled boards again! Though I didn't have the heart to break down the ceiling). I may remake the paned slops again in slightly less bargain basement fabric (the off white satin and striped stuff were both bargain bin £1/metre finds that have been sat in my fabric stash for ages and bought on impulse lol, so their quality wasn't the best for some of their uses in those trousers and the bodice!)
I loved yours! It reminded me of Cirque du Soleil. It was quite the elaborate diorama for such short time to build it, and I wouldn't have guessed it was cheap fabric!
Thank you! I was so worried that my diorama was going to be too simplistic, since there was no real need to build furniture, 'only' (hah crazed sleep deprived laugh from that week) paint up the scenery boards/surround in an appropriate manner. But it was great fun, I always enjoy the make props/build scenery section of the triathlon, even if sometimes my plans fail spectacularly lol. Yeah I love finding bargain basement (I think in the case of the off white stuff it was literally in the shop basement too if I'm remembering right) fabric, for all that it does sometimes mean I end up with weird stuff that I literally don't know what I'm ever going to do with it ever.
Congratulations, winners! Well deserved! Congratulations everyone who competed! It's been a blast crafting with you all, even if we couldn't talk about our projects I'm Chibi Usa. Mine s the Mithraldolls Lyric, the Silver Goddess. I'm actually super humbled I received any votes on my diorama, thank you the three of you who did Eirian is still in her dress, and will probably keep on for a good long while. I'm still proud of that ^^
Congrats to the winners! I was PartyHearty with the pastel ribbon wig in the first round only. A special congratulations to those that actually did the whole thing! A whole triathalon can't be easy.
Since I was so happy with my dress, I just wanted to share a couple of extra pictures, I hope nobody minds! The first is of Jane with her usual wig, glasses and kitty ears, the second is of the full outfit. I felt like I was making a fullset outfit with all those parts! Spoiler: Photos!
Congrats to the winners! Your wig was very impressive. I voted for your outfit. It was really well-made. I was TheGlassCat with the patchwork girl. I'm pretty happy with the wig and outfit I ended up with for her, especially since I wasn't able to get her fullset when I bought her. I think she'll be keeping them.
I feel like I keep saying this to everyone, but it's honest. I loved your girl. The theme worked perfectly with her sculpt (which, btw, is such an adorable face! ) and I LOVED your wig! The outfit only made it better. She should keep them, they are perfect for her! Personally, I like them better than her fullset outfit.
Congrats on the winners, the 1st and 2nd places were mine and my moms favorite picks, especially - @vam31 aka Blue Shadow!, how did you make that dress out of paper?? For those interested, my pseudonym was BubblegumAngel and my entry was the doll with the pink hair and black cloak and the 2 story diorama with the waterfall. I'm honestly really disappointed with how I did, especially only 2 votes for my diorama T-T I know my 1st round had bad photos and the 2nd round was probably not a popular style, but I really thought my diorama was pretty cool. But anyway, I like the wig, outfit and diorama and will definitely use them again, and none of the prizes were must haves XD One entry from the 1st round I would have wanted to see more of was the one with the super long seaweed hair with the eel and crab poking out. One entry that made it to the 2nd round that I wanted to see again was the one using the beads in the wig.
Whew, this was a crazy thing to participate in! My entries were themed around rainbows and nature with the Fairyland elf queen and fresh flowers. I'm in the same boat as you Mew-Lidia9 in regards to reception, especially with the diorama stage! And I actually adore the MiracleDoll Yanxi, enough so that I may buy him in gray skin here someday... But funnily enough, during the 2nd round, I had invested so many hours in the project that I realized if I had just done freelance work, I could have just bought the doll and saved myself a whole lot of stress, time, and anguish. If there's one thing I learned from the whole thing, it's that I absolutely never want to do it again! XD So here's a great big kudos and grats to all you other survivors!
Congratulations to the winners and well done everyone who entered. It was fun to see all the different entries, there were so many different ideas and materials used. I loved seeing all the creativity everyone has. I was SteelyGirl, my entry was doll with the metallic Mohawk , wearing a leather jacket, pink top, denim shorts with the metallic boots. With the brick courtyard dioramas. I found this competition a huge challenge and I can’t wait to next year to try again.
Sorry!!! I don't know why I didn't recognize it. I really love your wig and outfit btw. Seriously sorry though, I probably look like an idiot right now lol.
Haha it's fine, to be fair I think she melded into the background because it was dark and so were her clothes and wig. Ty, I am super proud of the wig and outfit. I loved your entries, the two tier diorama was so impressive!
Who made the amazing Link?? I need to know how those amazing castle walls are made!!! There was another entry with castle walls too. I need to make my own castle walls, share your wisdom please!
Fantastic entries this year I was flabbergasted ! Staying on track for all three challenges is a battle of willpower and resilience! Congratulations to everybody who "kept on fighting" And BRAVO! to the winners!
Thank you for loving my work! It was a very stressful job, honestly XD For the basic of the "skirt" I used card board to build the hoop skirt. Then I covered it with paper and next step I started to build the "real" skirt. I used flowing glue to make the paper soft than I used my hand to try making frills to imitate the ripple of the clothes. Sometimes the paper was too wet and it was torn so I had to start from the beginning. That was really frustrating The "dress" has two parts. One is the skirt and one is the corset. The corset has paper lace to make it removable. Overall I used a lot of glue and paper with different paper techniques Congrats to the other winners and of course Everyone made a fantastic job! There were so much amazing entries I wish there would have been more round that I could be see more of your creativities
Adding my congrats and appreciation to everyone for their amazing efforts. I'd like to extend particular kudos for those of us using big dolls. I'm still flabbergasted by the size the diorama needed to be and I wish I had the space to keep mine. I can definitely empathize with being disappointed in not getting more votes. I remind myself that since people could only vote for 3-4 entries, the lack of votes doesn't equal a lack of appreciation. Liking the entries is a good way to express admiration to the creators, though, since those are unlimited. My entry was the girl with the wire wig with the adjustable height ponytail, the overalls, and the airship diorama. I was really pleased with how everything came out. I just wish I could take better pictures and that I didn't always finish at the absolute last minute so I don't have any natural lighting for the pictures. All the fabrication was a phenomenal amount of effort, used practically every tool in the garage and completely ravaged my materials hoard. Although I can't keep the diorama intact, I will be able to keep the props/furnishings and the hardwood floor platform.
Me too! I was so disappointed that one didn't make it to the later rounds, it was so unique and well executed! This was another of my favorite wigs (though it was hard to choose in both rounds I voted for; computer issues stopped me from getting the third round in).
I loved your airship diorama! It was so different and creative and all the little details were really well done. I voted for it.
I finally got to go through the round 3 post and I was blown away by everyone's work! I'm almost glad I missed the voting, I really would have had a hard time picking. You guys all did an amazing job!
Congratulations to all the participants and winners this year! Everyone's work was truly inspiring and beautiful
Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who took part! I am in awe of the level of talent on display here. Wear those wings with pride-- you all truly deserve the recognition!
@CloakedSchemer Thank you for liking my 2 story/waterfall diorama Although I might not be particularly fond of your wig, I totally loved your outfit and ramen shop. Even my mom liked your diorama @Miku_Plantman still sorry though. I think it might be my on fault (I have a tendency to zone out with space type stuff, I'm the only one in my family that's wholly unfamiliar with star trek and star wars lol). But you really put in a whole lot of effort into it. And thank you for liking my stuff @vam31 Your stuff was really amazing. My mom's been voting for you from the start Me too though, but that really seems like it was difficult and a lot of work, I think you definitely had the most creative materials
Thank you for supporting me! My kid and me are so happy to hear this I feared I won't be able to finish it bc this was my very first bjd contest and this DIY thing is still pretty new to me but I'm glad that I could give a beautiful look to my Kalion. Sadly he has just a couple clothes. Oh, I think it's a surprise that she's he. His beauty inspired me
Thank you! No worries on the wig, I really didn’t like it either. I’ve never been good at wig making! I was honestly shocked that the wig got more votes than the dress did. I was so happy with the full outfit and I put so much more money and effort into it than I did the wig. I think the diorama looked much better in photos than in person—you can’t see how badly it was sagging and trying to collapse on itself. Haha It was still fun!
Full-time Mom here with the Roco-cola wig, Debris Antoinette dress and Why am I always Baroque room. I'm positively tickled I got some votes! Crafting with trash was a fun challenge, but done completely out of necessity, I was traveling through the entire competition and had zero access to my crafting supplies! Airport security had some fun break room stories to tell about my trash bag garbed doll that kept getting inspected... Some amazing work out there guys! I would love to be able to actually hang out irl and brainstorm together with all of y'all!
Congrats to all of the winners, and to everyone who entered! I was absolutely floored by the creativity and talent that went into each and every entry! And a special shout out to the Link creator - I've been playing Zelda games for longer than I care to remember, and your cosplay was just AWESOME!!
Big congrats to everyone who participated and especially to the winners! So much talent, so few votes to give... There are so many entries I wish I could have voted for. Whittling down the choices was agonizing! DX If anyone's interested, my entry was the magical sheep girl with the cotton ball wig. @thegashlycrumb I loved your wig so much. That ponytail was so creative! @Mew-Lidia9 Unfortunately, I wasn't able to vote for it, (There were so many amazing entries I wish I had enough votes for!) but your 2 story diorama was really cool! @deirdrecat Your wig was awesome! How did you curl the plastic so perfectly? @Chell I loved that shot of your girl in the courtyard. It looked like she was pausing, perhaps savoring the moment or maybe even hesitating out of slight apprehension, before opening the door to her future. @Miku_Plantman I absolutely loved your doll's wig and outfit. They looked so perfect together!
@Bittersweet Blue Thank you very much All your stuff fit together very well by the way, it looked really nice together
Sorry about the late response, but as for curling plastic.... I cut the bottles into thin spiral strips, wrapped it around a metal straw (woulda used a knitting needles if I had some with me) and poured hot water from the coffee pot over it. I was amazed at the instant results.
