Contest The Great Triathlon Challenge Three: Angel's Lore

Aug 16, 2014

    1. This is going to take a long time before I can vote!

I'd like mention that one of the images for #16 is not displaying D: I tried refreshing the page but the cover photo won't load on that one.

    2. Hmmm, I could have sworn we fixed that! Will check into it but it might be tomorrow before we can get that taken care of. We're all exhausted at this point!

    3. Amazing everyone! Simply Amazing!!

I had the same problem, but the GIF for #16 is great, so you go get a nice picture of the front cover that way!!

I'm overwhelmed by the awesomeness of them all and am sincerely glad I finished so that I can say I took part amongst such fantastic competition. It's really interesting to learn about everyone's dolls and marvel at all the creativity that abounds, though I have to say that it was hard for some of the books to catch my attention :sweat . The descriptions of the concepts were helpful and there were many 'aha' moments!! It's neat to see how everyone adapted to the challenge, but in then end I chose the ones that made me smile and marvel, regardless of the categories (sorry!!).

      Congrats everyone!!

    4. Argh! So much awesome. This is going to take me all week, I think, so I actually have time to read everything... Fantastic job, everyone!

    5. Woah... Iust woah!:o There are so many A-M-A-Z-I-N-G books!! You guys are all so incredibly talented!! :D
And with every single entry you can see the love the owner has for their doll. It fills me with warm fuzzies. :aheartbea:hug:

And everyone who didn't get their book submitted, please please share some photos! I wanna read them all! >w<

    6. I feel I should get one of those "I Voted" stickers that are given out at the polls. This took a lot more time and thought than the last election.

    7. Just put my votes in! Everyone's books turned out amazing <3 It was so hard and I went over my favorites several times before I finally submitted :-)

    8. Amazing entries EVERYONE!! : D I enjoyed looking your stories and books! Thank you for participating so the likes of me can just sit and look happily <3

    9. I'm surprised! All the books are wonderful! i just wish i had known we were going to SEE the explanation and making posses with this last one!

    10. I did it. I sat down and read every single book (though unfortunately a few were too small or too fast for me to read :(). There were some really cute ones that brought a much needed smile to my face after the crushing devastation from round 2 voting (even though I could tell it would turn out that way the very moment the amazing entries were posed :sweat). I didn't think I'd be such a fan of the "my doll" type books but those were actually some of my favorites! Totally makes me feel like a less crazy person for being so enamored with a hunk of resin. One book made me laugh so much I want to PM the owner right away to thank her (accidentally figured out whose doll it is from seeing this person's posts over the years) but I'll wait until it's officially ok.

As always... looking at my entry again leaves me with a feeling of, "oh crap... I should've done this/spent more time on that/etc". Oh well XD;. I took notes on a bunch of the entries though so I'll share those after all's said and done :D.

    11. This is what I get for not keeping up with the thread. I didn't realize the descriptions were going to be posted ^_^;

    12. I am blown away by the entries. Great job everyone. So far I am impressed by just the posed photos and pictures of the covers. I have to set aside more time later to read the gif parts before voting. It is going to be hard to pick just four entries.

    13. You get to pick 5 this time! Not that it makes it much easier

I went through and opened all the gifs in separate tabs, then went through and read them all, and closed the ones I thought weren't quite good enough to vote for, I thought i was being really ruthless and it would easily narrow it down for me. Not so much, i still have 15 on my shortlist.

    14. Holy cow how is a person to choose?!!!

      EXACTLY! :)

These are great, ladies and germs. You've all outdone yourselves. I think mine would have stood up nicely in the mix if I'd been able to get the pages to print even remotely legibly (and I kept trying even after I said "I'm done!" but it was not to be). But even so, looking at all of these I'm sure I'd have been in the "yeah, we'll toss her a point for trying" bin ;)

      Awesome stuff here.

    15. For real. I'm not even half-way through the entries yet and I'm already overwhelmed with ones I want to vote for!
Amazing job everyone!! *goes back to reading*

    16. Oh wow! That was the hardest to vote for by a long way.

In the last rounds I could easily narrow down my choices by picking the ones that appealed to me the most, just in terms of style and what I like for my dolls.

But I'm a much bigger fan of books and illustration, typography and paper cutting techniques than I am of wings so there were about 20 I wanted to vote for! Well done everyone! :)

    17. Wow, you guys put me to shame yet again! Did I enter the right contest? lol So many of the books look professional! Wow! Even those that looked rough around the edges were funny or cute and had good stories to read!
I stayed up reading until my eyes fell out about 2am. And I'm still not done reading! I'll read through the rest today and think about them all for a while.
      So much Good out there!
Congratulations everyone that made the slog through the entire trip! We lost about 50 per cent by the end, but everyone contributed along the way!

I'm kind of sad and yet relieved that it's over. I realized that I rarely challenge myself anymore. Maybe I should. We accomplish bigger and better things, the more we try!

Again, congratulations to everyone who managed to get any leg done in this long competition! You ALL did Good! :)

    18. I voted. I know it's nothing compared to the work that went into the entries, but, man, voting is hard! As far as I'm concerned, you are all winners!

    19. Three hours. That's how long it took me to vote OMG SUCH an awesome display of talent & creativity! All of them were fabulous - soooo hard to choose!

    20. looked over the pictures last night before I went to bed, and can I just say holy wow...
now that I'm finished running errands for the day I can actually sit down and read through all the descriptions and gifs to get my vote in, I have a feeling this is going to take awhile xD

    21. o0 all those pretty entries that look like so much work went into them... I think I'll go hide mine in a corner now...

    22. holy snappin' wow! nice entries everyone!

    23. Hey mods, since I dropped out of the 3rd challenge, can I post my wings on my tumblr now? ^_^

    24. Yes, you may! :)

    25. What a bunch of talented individuals you all are! And Congrats on making it through to the end! I'm glad I dropped out because any book I would have made would have been so lame in comparison.

    26. I feel the same way. :sweat But I also know that what I made suits my Exalted, much better than any of the other beautiful wings/niches/books shown would have, and that's what's really most important to me right now. (That, and that I stuck it out to the end and finished the whole thing, after years of ducking the anniversary contests!) I really hope you can feel the same way about your work. :)

    27. I'm not participating in any contests, just admiring the beautiful entries since the Triathlon started.

I have to say... This is, without a doubt, the hardest challenge to vote D:
There are so many lovely books! One of the stories actually made me tear up a little xp it was just so sweet and honest. The stories are short, but many are touching, and feel so personal!

It's like you can feel the love everyone has for their dolls while reading their tiny books! :aheartbea
And the gifs that picture the dolls turning the pages... It's cuteness overload. Resistance is futile.

This time, I have no idea which entries I'm voting for.
It's impossible! There are many great covers, amazing concepts, lovely stories... I wish I had, I don't know, fifteen votes maybe?

    28. Everyone's entries look fantastic! Sadly I won't be able to get to an actual computer until Wednesday so no voting for me until then. T_T I'm dying to read every last one of those books. After everything I'm still very happy and proud of myself for finishing and I hope everyone feels the same way because you guy's deserve it!
I'm actually planning to maybe start a monthly challenge with a friend of mine who entered the sewing contest to try to keep the momentum going. Nothing fancy, just deciding on a project for the month that we have to finish by the end of the month. We're hoping posting in progress pics will help encourage us to finish. ;P That and we'll prod each other. :)

    29. Yes, sticking it out is very important! :)
And I do agree...unless I had been given a bunch more time, my book, wings, niche probably would have ended up pretty much the same as they are now.

    30. every single book was amazing, and some super creative photos - and so hard to vote! Great job everyone!

    31. That took forever! I finally have watched all the books, and looked at all the lovely photos. I'm going to sleep on it and vote tomorrow. Narrowing it down to just five will take some thought!

    32. I feel so disappointed about dropping out, I was so excited for this last challenge and then real life utterly destroyed me. There are some great entries!

    33. You and me both... and then after having dropped out because of a technical issue I spied one of the finished entries that I'm confident was done exactly the way I'd been planning on doing mine. If I hadn't asked a question to be sure I was doing it correctly, I *would* have been in there.

      O Well.

    34. Good work to everyone who managed to finish! I loved reading all the books and have just enjoyed seeing the amazing entries for this contest.

To those who didn't finish: I'm sorry, but you did your best! So grand kudos to you for your momentous effort!

    35. I wonder if I know which one you're talking about. There was a book I thought about voting for until I noticed that the content seemed to have been added digitally on top of the scan of the book. So, I couldn't be sure they even put any content in their book, which is one of the hardest parts!

    36. I dropped out for this last part too - my 9 mo. pregnant body said I could only do one challenge at a time, and making a book didn't make the cut lol. Which is sad, cuz I've actually taken book making class before!

There are some super cute books though - good job everyone!
Also, there is totally a pair of wings in the wing contest that I would buy, so awesome! I guess I have to wait until the final results from all the challenges go up, then try to hunt down the person that made them lol.

    37. I second this sentiment too. While I did work hard on mine, it pales in comparison to all the wonderful entries that everyone submitted :D At least it feels good to have completed all three challenges.

    38. Oh man, voting took me forever but I finally finished! Everything was amazing, I'm dying to comment on a lot of them so I'm looking forward to more info being posted on this forum after all is said and done.

    39. Oh my goodness! This was my favorite leg of the triathlon by far, and the hardest voting. There was something beautiful or funny or moving or creative about every single book. I am in serious awe. Bravo!

    40. Woo~ Glad I dropped out, because my second challenge results were very low compared to my first. XD

The entries are amazing, and much luck to everyone who finished! Those are some awesome prizes to be won.

    41. I had a really hard time voting as well. This was such a cool contest! I am so impressed with the skills, creativity, and perserverance of everyone that participated.

    42. I was wondering about that too. :huh?:

      I still haven't voted yet. I keep meaning too but then I start reading them all and I get so overwhelmed! @A@;;

    43. *coughs* I uh. . . thought we were supposed to have both the front and back cover of the book in the GIF as well? :|

    44. As for the second contest voting entries, I've been telling myself how hilarious it would be if my niche ended up getting more votes than my wings, and I was sure I'd get a big fat 0 and didn't even feel bad. ...Though only by a margin, my niche still got more votes than my wings, and I just wanted to bang my head through a wall. XD I was so embarrassed of my niche, but so proud of my wings, so it's a blow to the pride. Hahaha, well, when I look at the categories they got the votes in, I can understand the how and why of it, but now I can definitely tell a lot of people actually voted faithfully to the voting categories given.

I'm excited to go through all the books more carefully when I have a good chunk of free time, though I've looked at a few of the gifs already and there are some I quite like. I must admit though, that I really dislike the GIF presentation and would have preferred one big image file with the pages set up almost like a vertical comic strip. For some of these GIFs, with lots of text and tiny, difficult-to-read font, I can't even be bothered to try to read them when I can only catch a sentence or two at a time and they've got paragraphs OTZ .

I don't think I've seen anyone else who's dropped out share their WIPs or parts of what they've made yet, so I'll get the ball rolling BD . I took these pics at like 11:45PM when the contest was about to end, knowing deep in my soul how so very way too late it was for me to be able to submit on time but refusing to give up until the clock actually struck midnight, hahaha, so they're quite rushed, but I'm feeling too lazy pics.

[My Materials] and [With My Doll]

After the fact, I wish I'd planned out how to work with the binding more. And it's probably really obvious that I had hoped to make the last couple pages into two or three more illustrated spreads, but I ran out of time, so I scribbled that out at like 11:30, hahaha! Well, there's lots of little things I would have liked to do differently, but I am happy with the visual direction I established with the pages I finished =) . I've wanted to try a paper-cutting collage-mixed-media style for ages, and it was a lot of fun going through my huge stash of papers, stationary, origami, and crafts to see what I could use.

Anybody else have anything they're willing to share that didn't make it into the contest??

      <3 ali

    45. What a cute book almyki :D

    46. almyki, your book is really very cute, I'm sorry you didn't make it in! Also, since you're out (and now I know which niche was yours), I want to say WOW on that, too! I was really amazed to see what you'd made it out of, I never would have guessed! :D

    47. Wow AMAZING work!
Some excellent ideas and beautiful stories *-*
I think, my book is very simple.. XD But i tried a new book maker technique.
That was a great event ^^
      Thanks Doa !

    48. Finally got my vote in, once again the round was absolutely packed with fantastic entries! I won't even pretend it was an easy choice (and there's, once again, so many I would have loved to cast a vote for, had I had enough of them)!

Baakay, I'm sorry you didn't get yours done, I read through it and would have loved to see it finished. I did really like both your wings and your niche, they suited your Kenshin so very well!

    49. That was one of the hardest things I've had to vote on D:
You all did such an amazing job!! Good luck!

    50. I just placed my votes. Wow. I read everything and it was really worth it.

I'm glad I did all 3 challenges. Everyone's entries just seem even more meaningful as I can picture dolls and people working so hard together to bring all these wings, aeries and books together. Thank you for the hard work! ^_^

    51. Baakay Loved all your entries and that power point ~sob~ Of course I'm a huge Kenshin/Meiji era/Shinsengumi otaku geek LOL The anime GINTAMA got me into it all LOL

    52. Thanks so much :). It would have been done, and with plenty of time to spare, if I'd just decided to do it the way it had been planned, and submit it the way it was.

      Teleri :) Thanks so much.

    53. I've brought this issue to the attention of the moderators, and we will discuss. In the meantime, if you have concerns about a particular entry, please post in Ask the Moderators rather than making veiled remarks in the contest thread.

    54. I voted! :dance Awesome job, everyone. I really enjoyed reading through everything, and then today I read back through the several that I wanted to choose from. It was hard to narrow it down, but having the 5 points to give made it a little better. Good luck, everybody!

    55. I was finally able to take some time and read all of the books. I am so impressed! It was really hard to pick an absolute favorite in each of the five categories, since there were so many I liked for so many different reasons. What a delight! Thank you to everyone who entered! :abow:
I am almost as excited to have the contest end so I can talk about everything I loved as I am to hand out prizes! :eusa_sile

    56. This is my feeling too... I can't wait to ask my 1000 questions and spiel about little pieces of things!!! So excited for everyone!

    57. I'm really excited to be able to talk about all the little things that people may want to know.
as someone who is really used to posting progress shots of stuff all over it was really weird to have to keep quiet, so it'll be nice to finally be able to get it all out of my system after the winners are announced xD

    58. Heh, I'm sure no one will be all that interested in mine. :sweat

    59. I have a question, not sure if it was answered in the beginning of the contests, but once the contests close at midnight, will it be ok to post our work and experiences? Or is it better to wait until Sunday at 6 pm?
