Just For Fun The Evolution of a Collection

Aug 4, 2014

1. All this month, we continue to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Den of Angels! Whether you've been around from the very beginning or you've only recently joined the hobby, you have likely seen evidence of how the forum has changed over the years. We're guessing you and your dolls have done the same!

It's time to share a slide-show of your collection over time.

Feel free to post group shots documenting how your doll family has grown or developed over the years, or photos showing how that one, special doll has changed looks since coming home. There's no collection too big or too small - everyone is invited to participate!

As this thread is likely to get quite image-heavy, please limit photographs posted to 750pixels or less at the longest dimension.

2. Ooo fun! I love seeing how collections change over time!
Two comparisons from me. This is how my first doll has changed from when I got her to now:
[IMG]Tiffany Evolution by Skyealloway, on Flickr

And how my collection has changed from my first doll in 2009...not sure why I took no group pictures for like three years 0_0...

3. Oh, what fun!!

When Pen (Customhouse Gene) arrived on August 17, 2004, he wasn't just my first BJD -- he was the first BJD I had ever seen in person. I didn't even have a camera. I bought one of those disposable ones to take his unbelievably awful homecoming pictures.

And then I flailed around for quite a while, trying different wigs and eyes. Poor Pen. He didn't even get to keep the sweater.

We pass over some of the experiments in discreet silence.

Ah, he IS a natural blond . . .

The Jin-Jun Union Uniform! Are any veterans of The Soul Within yahoogroup still around to recognize it?

HERE we go! My preppy boy with his Ajumapama wig and pretty blue eyes:

This is one of my favorite pictures of him:

But his default faceup was already fading, and by 2008 it really had to be replaced. Such transitions are ever full of pain. It took two years and three faceups to solve the problem . . .

Faceup evolution: "not quite" #1
[IMG]

Faceup evolution: "not quite" #2
[IMG]

Ahhhhhhh. There's my Best Boy!

We've come a long way together, Pen and me. My collection has expanded like crazy around him, dolls have come and gone and come again, but he's still my treasure.

4. Well, heck, where is everyone?!? I must admit the oldest doll guessing game & discussion thread kept me distracted for quite a while. I love these anniversaries when we get to wander down memory lane. :D
skyealloway, I love Tiffany's new faceup. Such lovely colors!

Over the years, along with all the other doll photos, every so often I've taken a group display snap shot. In looking back thru photos it is fun to see how my collection has been evolving.
a) the population multiplied (yikes!)
b) the groupings changed as partners & like minded resinoids congregated & got comfortable,
c) I love seeing these quick reminders of how faceups have changed, along with wigs & costumes as the characters became more solid in my head. It is kinda like looking at those old family holiday photos. "She used to wear THAT?!?!"

In the beginning I was so pleased to find I had gone from 1 to 4 dolls...

The next year the group had gotten big enough to be too many for the wicker chest I had them standing on...
the rest were standing along side it on the floor...
which was a state of display that seemed prone to dire disasters!

Fall of 2011, I found the perfect display table. Look at all of that space :dance
Especially when I added the upper optional shelf unit...
And it even had an "undershelf" display shelf for the MSD's to enjoy...

By June 2012 there was a bit of a display problem...Being an historical costume fan hasn't helped the display space challenge at all!:sweat
[IMG]

It didn't take long for the MSD's to lose their cozy undershelf spot & by the next fall the Undershel Delf's had claimed the lower parlor while the MSDs were back on the wicker chest. :doh
[IMG]

Acacia, my first BJD love has found herself a husband & a son as well as a beautiful faceup (3rd time's the charm) & a red silk gown. And it is because of her that all of this BJD fun began for me.

The Wolff clan started with the handsome Ezra Larkin. Thru him I met Mokorran & did my first DOA trade. Then there was my first "new doll" order from SUpia for his sister Sayomi. Finding a hybridized Elfdoll June/Notdoll with gorgeous freckles in the MP gave Ezra a daughter & me the chance to enjoy "meeting" Zingor here on DOA. The gift from a dear friend of a grail doll, Elfdoll Soah, turned out to be yet another member of the clan, Naomi Serena. While dressing her I made my first project journal here on DOA & enjoyed chatting with friends over the winter while figuring out just what I'd imagined sewing for her. Since then, her sister Aurora has appeared thanks to a lucky find in the MP. As did Aurora's honey Spinel. He's sporting some of ANgeltoast's magic in his faceup. And this summer their daughter began to formulate with the announcement from LLT of a new sculpt being released. Her head is already on its way to Angeltoast for makeup. Just as the Delf's have claimed the undershelf Parlor, the Wolff clan will be filling the top shelf.
Time to look for another display space. Because I hope to be coming to DOA for many more years of inspiration, information, ideas & friendship.:D

5. I don't think mine change a lot, but some did change of course ;)

Like this is my Cristal in 2010 (my first big bjd):

And this is her in 2013 (she didn't change since then):

Or this is my Yukinojo in 2012:

And this is him as well, but in 2013:

Or this is my Ryōma in 2013:

And him in 2014:

Or my Hasekura in 2013:

And him in 2014:

Some are in process to change right now.
I also try to do a group shot once a year, usually in Autumn, though I didn't start to do it from the beginning (I got my first bjd in 2009).

My crew in 2011:

Us in 2012:

And us in 2013:

And since Autumn of 2014 is not here yet I didn't do another group picture yet. But I can say that there are 8 more of us now. ^^;

6. (I've never been good about taking/organizing group shots regularly, so I've excavated some shots that I could find. OMG my 9-year-old Photobucket is such a mess, I swear the system used to make sense when I started.)

August 2005! Rowan (SDC Arashi), the pioneer, arrives in San Francisco and starts my doll-collection on the top of my old desk.

I bought my first digital camera a few days after he arrived home, and as you can see, I had no bloody idea how to work the thing yet. xD

Within 1 month, Seiya (SD13 Isao v.1) and Sora (SD13 Shiro v.1) had both arrived, and there were three. I knew I wanted SD13 Tokyo Boys, dammit, so I wasn't going to hesitate.

Then Kaiya (SD13 SchoolHead A) got here in early 2006, and there were four. Oh my, that desk is getting crowded.

Fast forward to Christmastime 2006... *poof* Well, that escalated quickly! Time to sell the old computer and move the doll-collection onto the table. (I have a small apartment; that table is the largest horizontal surface in the house.)

The table filled up, the little old bookcase was too narrow for such big dolls, and so, in 2008, a trip to IKEA was in order.

And now the collection can no longer be photographed in one place, because it's split up between 2 shelving-units and a table. Many of the dolls are still sitting on boxes & beanbags until I can score some more couches (or upholster some boxes more attractively). ^^

In 2009, the 3rd & 4th shelving-units are added to house the giant EIDs & some of the couches (hooray for modular furniture)...

In 2010, I got off my butt and made the State of the Union photoshoot in my signature link. It was SUPPOSED to have been updated many times since, but when I procrastinate, I don't mess around....

And right now, I am finally starting to gather photos of the collection as it is now for a 2014 update. Still not finished with the solo shots, but here's a glance of the current state of the shelves and the table. Full house!

Signature link to be updated... eeeeventually. xD

I can post some evolution shots of individual dolls later, but it took me long enough to find & dig up this many.

It's really cool to see everybody's evolutions! How time flies! :3

7. Sora, my Luts Delf Woosoo through the years!

And 2014, last month :)

8. thank you! I love how well dressed your group became over time!

9. I love to see the evolution of dolls, so here are mine.

Zhou has had many face ups and he has the biggest wardrobe of all my boys. The first is the privileged one in my case ^_^

*ejem-sash/belt-*
Even thou I have many outfits for him, Jean seems to favor one style the most (still very possesive of his other clothes....) He hasn't changed that much, just ajusted his face up to the new wig (both of us dislike that hair colour.....)

Lucius was the doll that got me into this.... (mess?), and the first/only doll I could not bound with from the start. He had me compleatly desinterested a whole month, and frustrated just another. We both hated his first face up... Since then many things have changed, and my little diva is extreamly dishearted that I didn't shoot any pics of him in 20013.... We will remedy that soom^^

This little Imp was an "Oh so cheap, I need a practice head"-deal. He ended up with a name, a character and an enourmose sweet tooth. Went with me to Barcelona two months after arriving home. He definitively likes to go on adventures... even if I mostly don't document them. (He is one of the dolls that is moved/played with the most)

He started as a sweet little boy with an impish smile, now he is my trickster god. What changed? I watched the avengers and needed a personal Loki to play with. This one has a love for chinese fashion thou....

And because I was on a roll that year, Severus got home too. ("Oh look what a sweet deal on a limited head.....") he got his body a month later and was then ignored for half a year (all of them were). Now he has finaly his potion master robes and can be happy with his nearly non existed wardrobe. Poor boy *sigh*

Loki, the big one, is a work in progres. I got the Hiddles head on the spur of the moment and bought the body not long after. Now we are waiting on other parts, while I'm working on his clothes and other demandings.

That's it.
For the moment there wont be much more, a dragon if he arrives. After that one "C'est fini", no more space, no more dolls. But still a lot of projects that I wish to finish, or even start. And who knows what the future holds^^

10. My first photoshoot with my first doll!
Change of hair
[IMG]
New amazing face-up by Cats10 and a change of hair again!
Trying out red hair this time!
Finally found the perfect wig, blonde with bangs!

[IMG]13-11-SDBJDC-4012 by aprilllee, on Flickr

2014--Many More! I really need another big group picture, but that'll be VERY DIFFICULT!

Check out my BJD webpages in link in my signature if you want more pictures of everyone.

My collection has pretty much spanned the whole BJD spectrum over time, I think. There were only a few BJDs available when I started in 2004. I liked Volks Shirou, but he was sold out. Happened to be looking when Elf El and Elf Lishe were released and jumped on the available dolls when I could. And found a Shirou One-Off when Volks opened the L.A. Store and held events at the Volks Mansion in 2006. Went to the L.A. Dollpa.

Started buying Tinies and micro-tinies when they became more popular. Started buying Anthros when they started being more popular. Started buying Soom MDs when they started. Got into Iplehouse's Noctarcana Circus line. Got into the more stylized dolls from Doll-Chateau. Started looking at Not-On-Topic and Non-Asian dolls. Started buying pet dolls...

Just bought my first 78cm doll!

And I've had them in all kinds of styles-- Historical, Contemporary Formal and Casual, Fantasy/Fairy/Elven, X-Dress, Goth, Punk, Lolli, Steampunk, Non-Asian Country-Antique styles, Avant-garde/artsy styles, cosplay...

And dolls from a wide range of companies...

Thanks! It's been a crazy time, and it's not over yet... ^_____^

12. I don't feel right posting the evolution of my favorite, since I'll be using him for the triath :P So instead, here is the evolution of my very first! I'm one of those people who re-shells characters, so he is no longer the same sculpt he started as (although I do still have the original doll!)

I didn't even have a real camera when I started into the hobby XD He was a Dream of Doll Yen for a very long time.

^ the reason I don't attempt mods anymore, this was a DiM Jeremy head I attempted to open the sleeping eyes on. I never could get them beveled right and it was really rough looking in person

Iplehouse Ryushin

And what he looks like today!

And as a bonus, this is what the Dream of Doll Yen looks like today:

13. I really like seeing these threads, and how everyone's dolls and collections have evolved! Here's my collection throughout the years, from whatever I could find on my photobucket >_<.

2009 - I got my first doll, and he had the crappy first faceup I did ._. Oh man. Also, digital camera with super high ISO=grainy photo.

2010 - I got a head, and a body quickly after, making the collection 2 :D Also, my first doll got sent for a better faceup. (There's a few more of my faceup attempts in between though)

2011 - 3rd doll! I think this was from box opening and back then I didn't really take group photos of my dolls together cos I kept them in boxes when I didn't play with them, so it was a pain to take them all out for photos. ><
[IMG]

2012? I think... - the 3rd doll got sent for faceup but I got 2 more...my Miho twins :D :D By now my photograph has actually improved but the quality of my group shots is pretty bad compared to solo shots...

2012 - The first proper attempt at a group photo. I didn't expect them to take up so much space, hence the sadly inadequete "wallpaper" at the back. Also had floating heads but they're not in the shot.

2014 - The most recent photo of my crew, minus the floating heads :) Most of them look relatively the same, except the twins got new wigs, and there's alot more dolls suddenly because I skipped 2013 (no group shots then, no idea why...)

14. I love threads like this, my dolls have changed a lot over the years but I'll start it off with one since the pictures of the others are all on my external hard drive not my computer.

Calixte started off as a Dollzone Megi (taking over when I decided to turn the doll's old character female)
This was back in 2009.

But then I realized it was a poor excuse to keep a doll my collection had outgrown so I sold the Megi and Calixte became a character only in writing. I missed having Cali in doll form though and in story the character had developed so much I felt comfortable getting a doll of Cali again.

So in early 2012 I bought a Resinsoul Wu as a birthday gift to myself with plans of doing a lot of modifying to the doll. I wanted an inexpensive doll to practice on. I ended up falling in love with his big lips and he became Cali.

But this still wasn't write because in the story Cali is known as Pink Baby, Winter Mage, Snow Princess etc. for his lacking pigmentation hair and his love of the color pink. The default face-up with slight modifications from me wasn't going to work but I had never done a face-up with white as the main color before.

So after a few months of owning him I tried doing that pale/albino face-up and my lack of ability really showed.

I got too busy to try again so a year later in 2013 after my dolls spent months and months stored in boxes and I'd read a few tutorials I tried it again.

The results were far better now. Over time his way of dress has started to become a little more masculine as well which is funny considering he's supposed to be gender neutral, easily going between male and female.

Here's what he looks like today.

15. Lovely collection

16. So many dolls have come and gone in my collection in the past 9 years. So here are some group photos :

This is my doll family in September 2006 : Soye and Nadia (Unoa Lusis)

This is most of my doll family in April 2007 : Soye, Maria, Miho (Unoa modded sleepyface) and Willow (Soom Elf Uyoo). Nadia isn't in the photo since she and Miho shared a body.

This was my doll family in November 2007 : Maria, Soye, Willow, Bram, Jin (Elfdoll Mir) and Abigail (Elfdoll Min). That's the largest my BJD family has ever been.

17. Just had to squeal like a big 'ol fangirl over PEN! Pen, Pen, PEN!! I gotta get in on this thread, too. gosh.

18. [IMG]

That is the very first doll photo I ever took of my first BJD, who was a Bluefairy Niky boy with his fullset

Look how bad that photo is, and wow, acrylic eyes.

It took me another year to get Kurenai's twin brother, a Bluefairy May boy. The Niky has since been sold on, but I still have original Natsume, making him the doll I've owned longest. It will be 9 years this Christmas.

Aderyn(luts Ani) who is my frist doll!
Fairyland Pukipuki (i believe my 2nd doll!)
Fairyland Feeple70 Cali(Far too big for me! loved her though!)
Fairyland minifee Vampire Woosoo girl (had to sell her to help buy house)
This pic was 2009?

2011?

20. This is momo. She was my fifth doll and my first human doll. This is the first picture I took of her in 2012

I wanted to start doing faceups so I redid her face and got scared of the result.......

Then I made her look normal again...thank goodness
[IMG]

and then I got a decent camera but had horrible photography skills in 2013....

Then I thought she should be punk, but that didn't go to well (early 2014)

So I changed her wig to what I thought would be her final default wig yet again and gave her an "improved" faceup. oh and bought a better camera after dropping the last one in the cats water bowl...

Then got around to changing her wig and eyes and developed my photography skills just a little....

and that's when it hit me... she was meant to be my ginger girl, but something was missing.

It was her faceup and her eyes. they weren't the right colors.

so another makeover began!

and for the finishing touch, I body blushed her and gave her freckles just last week :)

^My Momo is finally all complete^

21. I love all of your pictures of Pen -- aren't the old Customhouse dolls just the best? -- but I really had to stop and swallow before splurting coffee all over the screen. Those "unbelievably awful homecoming pictures" -- I know those! And weren't we all proud of them anyway! :) 2004, though! He really IS a treasure!

22. Oh this seems fun!
My dolls, where the first photo was taken February 15, 2011

It all started with one...

Then there were two...

Next was three...

Well whatdayaknow, now there's four...

Tinies make five and six...

Oh dear, up to seven...

Back down to six...

Would you believe 7 again?

Eight?

I still need to take a group picture of my current gang, all eight of them. :P

23. *snerrrrrrrkkkkkk* I have one that's even worse than the one I posted . . .

I suppose a sensible person would have deleted them all ages ago, but it's still pretty special, seeing the horrible pictures of that First One! Pen will have his tenth box-opening anniversary on August 17th -- I should plan to do something special on Sunday, hmmmmmmm . . .

24. My collection started with Pocca, a ns pukifee ante, back in 2011.

Then in 2012 Saga came, a ns pukifee mio.

In 2013 I they were four dolls and two floating heads!

Not long after, I sold almost all of them to buy tan dolls from Fairyland (and reshell Saga in tan). I had gone from 4 dolls to just one and two floating heads:

And now in 2014 I have a beautiful family of 9 and three floating heads.
Karin, my tan pukipuki rose:

Pocca, my ns pukifee ante:

Saga and Freya, my tan pukifee mio and luna twins:

Melba, my pukifee luna/luts tdf centaur hybrid:

Nemo, my other pukifeetaur, a pukifee pio/luts tdf centaur hybrid:

Jake, my tan pukifee zoe:

Lunna, my tan littlfee chloe:

Sibel, my OE-modded littlefee luna sleeping faceplate:

And then my two minifee heads that need bodies; Agnes - sarang and Cassian - nanuri 14
[IMG]

I hope you guys like them! :3

25. Like most others, it was only going to be ONE.
He arrived August 2006.

But it didn't take long for him to gather a few buddies. Taken a year later, August 2007.

A month later, and already a few changes. Sep 2007.

Skipping forward three years... no group photos that I could find before this: Jan 3, 2010.
....yeah...

After our move from Florida to Kansas in mid 2010, there'd been a few changes again. Sep 5, 2010.
Not everyone is here. I can think of at least one that was out on loan.

Only a couple of months later, and more changes. Nov 26, 2010.
Same thing here, still not all of them, at least one or two out on loan.
You'll probably notice everyone is sitting down now. We had a few Domino Doll tumbles, and so for a while, everyone sat.

The last three years or so, I gave up on getting a Full House photo. Too many dolls out and about.
Today, I almost do! One head (Soom Crow) is out for a faceup, one floating head is in a box in another room, and one doll is currently disassembled while I work on him.
There are floating heads on laps, and the guys standing are all standing two-deep. So much for getting to sit around!

It all starts so innocently enough: It will only be this ONE DOLL! I promise!

26. OH SNAP 0_0 lol That's just amazing how fast a collection can grow!

27. I have a large collection and I don't do group pics often, so instead of focusing on my entire collection I'll share the evolution of my most loved character~

Paul is a the main character of a novel that I've been working on for a while. His teenage version is the first BJD I ever ordered, a Custom House Little Junior Mars. Here he is in his almost-default glory (I added some very amateur freckles - clearly this is before I learned the splatter method!)

That was in 2009. Later he got subjected to some of my early faceup attempts:

And eventually I put him on a Soom Little Gem body:

Now he's on a Unoa boy body. Here he is with the second shelling of his boyfriend Robin, now an Iplehouse Ryan (originally an AoD Xun):

Eventually I wanted SD versions of the characters as well, to be their adult selves. I originally had Paul as a Volks F-20, but when I first saw pictures of Crobidoll Zion I squeed and exclaimed "That's him!" Grown-up Robin is a Pluto Dolls Ezekiel.

And later on I decided I wanted a baby!Paul too. His six year old version is a Crobidoll Tori.

28. I started out wanting only one, also, Aernath! *_*

Cool seeing how you display them all!

29. way back in late 2009 I ordered what I intended to be one of three dolls that I planned to have.
I currently have 6 (+2 floating heads) and 1 (+another floating head) on the way.
still only have one of the three that I originally planned for, and a handful more that just kind of happened xD

september 2010
lena - dollzone aimi
avery - fairyland pukipuki ante
[IMG]

today
lena - fairyland minifee ryeon
aeryn - (off topic vinyl head) custom house hani/5star doll hybrid
livi - dollzone aimi
pandora - fairyland pukifee pong
avery - fairyland puikpuki ante
yarrow - fairyland realpuki pupu
nomi - fairyland juri multihead
? - custom house raffy
(and the little panda is from angell-studio)

30. I don't have a ton in the way of group shots, but I started in 2005 with THE ONE:

Then very shortly after I had 4:

Then I went back to Texas (2008) and had 6 (the Too belonged to my brother):

And I came back to Virginia (2009) and after a few years of steady buying had this:

Last year after I got several dolls put together or purchased I took a group shot:

At this point my dolls are a bit scattered through the bedroom. This is an overview of the current setup:

That is recent as of mid July 2014 after Zephi, my Ttory arrived.

Eventually I will have proper, dedicated space for them, with more furniture, and room for the furniture I DO have.

31. Heehee, another fun thread! It's so fun to see how it's almost always THE ONE doll that's supposed to be the only one and slowly at first, then faster, they begin to explode and demand more and more space. I couldn't restrain myself like you, Eiko82. (I still admire your pretty Soye. :) )
Sadly, apart from the very beginnings, I didn't take group shots over the years, but I have at least one guy evolving over time.

For me Hima was THE ONE doll, my Happydoll Arthur. First photos were taken with a film camera so I had to take photos of the photos. :p

[IMG]Hima_04a by Oh Shiny, on Flickr
2004 - the founding stones of two collections. My Arthur on the left, my sister's Arthur on the right, welcoming her Customhouse Gene in the middle, all still in default faceups and wigs.

[IMG]Hima_04b by Oh Shiny, on Flickr
2004 - apparently Gene brought Hima's wig with him. He's still wearing this wig.

[IMG]Hima_0105 by Oh Shiny, on Flickr
Jan 2005 still default faceups

[IMG]Hima_0705a by Oh Shiny, on Flickr
July 2005 - Oh dear, first faceup attempt

[IMG]Hima_0506 by Oh Shiny, on Flickr
May 2006 - second faceup attempt, still, ah well, we learn...

[IMG]Hima_0808a by Oh Shiny, on Flickr
August 2008 - third faceup, he's still wearing that. Sadly when evening out some uneven spots and craggy eyewells I got carried away. I wouldn't do that kind of thing anymore, but what's done is done, and I still love him like when I first got him.

This is how it all started...

My collection June 2009
A single bjd, my AOD Wang Zi, surrounded by a family of pullips and dals. (I had about half of these before I got my bjd)
He originally arrived in September 2008, but this is the first group photo I have.

By October 2009, two more dolls. Iplehouse Tatiana and DOI Luke joined.

Early 2011, my collection exploded, the tatiana and wang zi has also moved out.
Sad part? I no longer own ANY of these dolls in this picture.

Late 2011, This is the collection that really unlocked my creativity and passion for the dolls <3 A few dolls are mising from this photo, mostly my migidoll Ryu and Volks Heath - I believe I was still sharing bodies when this picture was taken, so that explains why they're not in the photo.
Each of these dolls had characters that were extremely loved <3
Over the years, however, I've let go of most of them and only have one (kind of two [I sold the volks nono to a friend and then bought her back]) of the dolls in my collection (soom ai)

Everyone all on their own bodies and my soon was back from face up

Early 2012 :)

Early 2013
This isn't my entire collection at the time, but it shows some updates. The dollfie dream, ltf, pkf, souldoll all came home.

all of my SDs mid 2013

most of the SDs and the other sizes

And then... this year... I had a MASSIVE shift in my collection, purged many of them and have completely just redesigned how I collect and style my dolls XD
[IMG]

33. Oh man. My fiancee and I got into the doll hobby nearly six years ago. Wow, feels like such a long time...

I got my first floating head that summer, my Delf Breakaway. <3

I didn't actually take any family portraits for a couple of years. This was the first (and I apologize profusely for the terrible quality of the photo) circa July 2010:

A year later, in April 2011, you see how the family has grown (+1 msd, +2 tinies, -1 tiny):

The second most recent portrait, taken in November of 2012 (+1 SD, +1 msd, +1 tiny [although i think she's off topic? not sure]):

There's one more, but I currently don't have it on my computer. It's on my fiancee's. I'll edit this post when I've retrieved it. :3

34. I have a small group so...it all started with a MNF shiwoo vampire head I snagged off the MP in 2008 I named him "Toko"(who got stolen but that's another story)

then I got Spooky my first full doll who didn't have much in 2009
[IMG]
who I sold to get Sandalio later that year
[IMG]Sandalio 152 by CThaKitty, on Flickr
then I got Zach for my graduation he came in 2010 (he's had some wig changes he got a new one every year so far!)
[IMG]102_3016 by CThaKitty, on Flickr
[IMG]Zack 7 by CThaKitty, on Flickr
[IMG]Rain.... by CThaKitty, on Flickr
[IMG]Starchild 8 by CThaKitty, on Flickr
he & San didn't get along too well....
I also had a Juri '10 head for a bit
[IMG]Juri'10 4 by CThaKitty, on Flickr
Sold Sandalio & the Juri'10 in 2013 & ended back up with a ryeon as Spooky this year!
[IMG]Spooky Cute pt 2 by CThaKitty, on Flickr
and then to come full circle I also got the shiwoo back this year too!
[IMG]Basil by CThaKitty, on Flickr
and here's a recent photo of Zack (and Spooky) who I think really helped me boost my feelings towards owning dolls & getting more clothes
[IMG]Friends? by CThaKitty, on Flickr
(sorry for all the pics!)

35. It an entire thread devoted to my favorite thing about this hobby! Look at how much not only the dolls but the collectors have evolved!

I love doing doll evolutions so I'm sure I'll come back with more, but I think it's fitting for Kaspar to go first. Also characteristic of these ancient days, wonky randomly over-sized photos!

Kaspar as the fresh out of the box unmodified Dreaming Shiwoo on a borrowed secondhand Volks Kohya body. June, 2005.

I immediately take a dremel, files and sandpaper to his face.

He gets the first of about a zillion blonde wigs, fancy Masterpiece eyes and a gift of rainbow underpants from thesaraghina. October, 2005

I give him a face-up, knit him a sweater, make him a dumb sheep costume and take him to the park for his debut in the Luts thank you photo book. Anyone remember that? November, 2005

Some bad comedy in a maid's costume, including eraser food and an apron made out of some wine bottle decor frippery. March, 2006.

These are just the silly costume years, really. My Choa arrived with a bonus bunny costume. April, 2006

Thank goodness, I give him a second face-up and a better wig! September, 2006

And vaguely more serious costumes.

A new I'm-sure-this-is-the-right-one-this-time wig and some new DollHeart mix and match. So sophisticated! May, 2009

And then this surprise Volks Johanna head sneaks in! I don't know what happened! Also, Mystic Eyes have been discovered. September, 2009

Is it still Kaspar? Yes, there is still silly costume involvement. And pink lip gloss. Must be Kaspar. June, 2010

*w* still my favorite! Maybe someday I'll have the guts to repaint him. March, 2012

36. I joined DoA in 2010, with the idea that I'd get the chance to find one specific LE doll that I'd missed out on (famous last words, of course). That year my collection looked like this:

Two years later, they'd multiplied into this group:

There have been 4 new arrivals in the 2 years since that was taken, so clearly I'm overdue to get them all together.

37. aernath ~ Just one, right? How naive we all were...
I also have a large collection, and no group shots for the last 5 years >.<
So I'll just do my Kara Klums.

Alex I - my first ever doll - shortly after I got him. Default face up and sliver wig for the fail...((Dollmore was out of blond))
D'aw, so shiny and new (and clean...)////.

His first custom face up, and....this wig. urg. I tried.
Better eyes, still not there.

Blond!! Finally!
I don't know why it was so hard for me to find a white blond wig back then...now I have like, 50 of them >.<

While his head was out for a that custom face up, I went insane and begged Dollmore to sell me the Thinking Kara Klum version as just a head (which they didn't do then). They did (because they rock) and I got what I called at that time, The Head. He didn't look like this for another year, but I can't find any pictures of him...
He was supposed to be Alex's extra head. That never happened.

A yearish after my first doll Dollmore released both the normal and thinking in fancy LE full sets. In white skin. Which was my ultimate dream....they are so evil. I couldn't get rid of Alex, so I ordered my second, full Kara Klum...and then there were two (and The Head).
What was then Alex II with his pretty LE face up that I shortly changed. He took the modded-within-an-inch-of-its-life green and purple wig for keepsies and left Alex I a permanent blond.

Then my friend told me I should just get The Head his own body...and I couldn't not do that.
Since The Head was bought before Alex II (WS), he became Alex II and II became III. So yeah. I confused people.

I and II got new face ups....and then this happened.
I felt bad. He was the only one I didn't own....

I try to give I(one) a face up for the first time (I'd given the rest of them face ups, and the rest of my dolls...and countless other dolls - but my first had never had one by me. So it was a big deal. It was...)

I finally buckled down and made this wig from scratch
[IMG]
Still not perfect, but a million times better than the old one. And that's the first full face up I had given him...

Then I got another "extra head" off the MP, because that worked so well the first time. II got a new body an left me with:

Oops I did it again.
I can't even.
number 6! Another OE LE WS head off the MP.

Other than Skullface they've all got new face ups now....But I'm totally out of picture room, so you only get this. I just redid all his crappy tattoos, so he's all updated n'stuff.
Alex I, the start of all my insanity, a thousand times prettier than the day I got him. He knows he's my favorite. <33

Because I never actually said what they were:
Alex I - Dollmore Kara Klum
Alex II - Dollmore Thinking Kara Klum, Doll Chateau Y-02
Alex 2.5 - Dollmore Thinking Kara Klum (open mouth mod)
Alex III - Dollmore Cold Heartbroken Kara Klum LE15
Azrael V1 - Dollmore Cold Heartbroken Thiking Kara Klum LE15 (sometimes known as Alex IV)
Azrael V2 (Skullface) - Dollmore Cold Heartbroken Kara Klum LE15, Doll Chateau Y-03

I'd like to say The End, but #7 is on order already....so....no end. Not yet anyway.

38. @aernath: the jump from 2007 to 2010 amused me. but my goodness you have a lot of dolls now XD. I'm working on gathering pictures of my collection so I'll be back later with pictures. Right now I need to go pick up a head from the postoffice and get a picture of her new face-up for her collage XD.

39. Muerto! and Rat! and... and... oh wow all the goodness! And holy mother of pearl some of the newer guys are SO BIG...

40. Ok, so rather than do anything useful, like oh, I don't know, pay bills or something... Let's see if I can manage this.

My first day of full-doll ownership -- which was either VERY late July 2006 or very early August (I had one random head who had arrived a day or two earlier, but never took an arrival shot of him or anything). Younger daughter Jen is now starting her junior year of high school and WILL kill me if she sees this.

By mid-August 2006 the group looked roughly like this. I had completely forgotten what a light-colored faceup Pietr (the Domuya Yang Jr in the "75" shirt) had when I first got him. Wow. Oh and there's that random head I mentioned; by this time Yuki had a body and a blonde wig and everything, wow! They were all examining Ken's scar to see whether it resembled the poster that Yuki is pointing to, overhead. (I stink at faceups, too, but I've never had the oomph to re-do that scar for fear it might be worse if I redid it).

I had intended to stick to minis (with the obvious exception of Kenshin) but then the larger ones started arriving. By January 2007 the collection had pushed the anime-figures area off the table and up onto some teeny shelves the hubby made for me:

The larger dolls started overtaking the smaller by April 2007:

and the smaller ones (sadly, only the two DZ BB-sized guys in this shot from April 2008 are still with me).

I guess in 2009 I was too busy doing photostories with the Kenshingumi to take family pictures, or something. This one, though is from February 2010. Hubster and I had swapped "play rooms" with the girls and I now had time to spread out a bit. A good thing, too, it looks a little like a logjam:

So obviously THAT arrangement wasn't going to work for long, so in March 2010 I had the bright idea of buying some industrial strength storage shelves and giving them a more permanent display area. Yes, it's dark down here. I'm going to blame my crappy photography on that :)

And then came several years of mostly taking sales photos as opposed to anything else, though you'd barely know anybody left. I have to confess that I discovered Lord of the Rings Online and Minecraft and it's just fantastic how time can slip away when you're hacking up zombies and trying not to get blowed up real good by creepers!

But last fall I rearranged the digs one last time (for now) and Kymaera took a photo of All Doll (aka Wall O'Doll).

Even this is way out of date at this point. There was a Puki in that bag, I'll have you know, as we'd just come home from a trip to DDE -- and at least half a dozen other resins and DDs have arrived since last winter.

It really was fun trying to find some representative pictures for this!

41. :sweat Yes, especially when one has no Won't Power and a credit card with lots of room!

april - So many of us started only wanting ONE. lol There's no room for the ones standing on the floor - they usually reside in other places in the room.
And the ones on the lower left "shelf"? That's just a pile of fabric n stuff. No shelf there. heh Totally ran out of room! I'm trying so hard this year to stop the madness!
And, if anyone's interested - there's a dark, thick curtain that is closed in front of them when I'm not digging for someone.

VampireAngel13 - It's so true! And it's so good to see there are a whole slew of us that did the same thing. ^_^ I love the tale of your Kara Klums, sounds so much like the tale of my ten Soo Ris. :XD: It just... happens!

equine-aurora - Yeah... What can I say? Leave two dolls in a dark room for a while... Population Explosion! lol

Baakay - Blast from the Past, no? Oooooo, I am so in LOVE with the BIG guys! They're amazing and heavy and awkward... but SO what I've wanted for yeeeeears now! LumeDoll's Usil especially. Those lovely proportions! He's amazing!
But yeah, can't tuck them into a nice tote bag and pass as a muggle when I go out for photos with them. *overly excited-loud whisper heard once from a wife to her husband* "OMG Did you see that big doll?! The big doll! Big! Doll!"

I admire folks that can restrain themselves and keep a small collection. I have tried, oh how I have tried! But it seems the harder I try, the worse I get!
Maybe if there were No New Dolls made anywhere, for a year....

42. AHAHAHA. I blame college student budget on me only having 6 after 5 years. though there are two heads on the way so yeah XD. I managed to keep it at 2 for almost 3 years then I bought number 3 and yeah suddenly 6 XD...7.....8.....possibly 9 as I have fallen heads over heels in love with iplehouse Colin so it won't be long before I'm paying him off XD. if i had more money i would already be in double digits XD.

44. I just love looking at all these -- some very familiar dolls and some I've never "met" so to speak because I've been under a cat for several years ... but they're all just wonderful :).

45. And here it is, the final picture... The entire Resin Family as of August 2014!

Remember, in 2012 (the last family photo was taken then), the family was this:

and now... :D

46. Even then the MP would provide plenty of temptations I fear!! :sweat The main thing helping to curb my resin appetite currently is the display space challenge. ANd perhaps the sideways glances of my worried family...;)
What a relief it is to discover "Just one" is such a common introduction to the hobby!:doh Baakay, just how quick did you go from 1.5 to 6?!?
VampireAngel13, the multiplication of a favorite sculpt in variations makes perfect sense...tho so far I've only been tempted to double a couple of my favorites...whew!
I love seeing all of these examples of evolution. :D

47. I'm going to guess it was about three months. [EDiT: and I would be wrong, it was more like three WEEKS). I was just beginning to get a decent income after getting tenured, and at that point it seemed a much cheaper hobby than collecting anime cels - we won't go into how many home remodelings are housed in the portfolios ;) so I asked the Beloved Spouzal Unit (tm) if I could get another one. And another one... and I don't think by the 4th I bothered to ask any more ;) He was also working at the U. at the time so we could actually afford a toy or 25 after many years of working for Ramen wages. Still... I remember receiving some very fine advice that maybe it was time to "slow down the dolly train." Neither one of us did, as you can tell from the above pictures ;)

48. Bah, display is just barely a challenge! ;) You can get creative with that. I think my husband gave up trying the "sideways glances" ages ago. :XD:
But yes! How could I forget the MP?! Half my dolls are from there. :| And I look through it every daaaaay... Perhaps if I were to stop looking..?
Ha! Yeah. I'm a dreamer.

It's fun seeing we're not alone in the battle against overwhelming resin!

49. Here is the evolution of my darling Marlowe--my first and favorite! Always blond, always gray-eyed...always buttoned all the way to the neck. I thought he was going to be a carefree punk, but he ended up being a reserved business man, with a burning gaze!

~2005 (Awww....the wig and eyes that came with him. Such nostalgia.)

And I don't have anything for 2014. :...( He didn't move with me to Japan last year, and hasn't left my parents home for my new place in VA...

We'll be reunited soon, Marlowe!!

51. (sorry if this is too long!!!)

my first doll ever. haru, a dz megi 2, and i got him in 2008.

this picture is actually from a year later, in 2009, after i finally got him some clothes. he was incomplete for a very long time, seeing as how i was barely in high school and had no source of money outside birthday/christmas presents LOL.

sometime in summer 2009, my kid delf ani, named koji, arrived.

unfortunately, i never got a group photo of all of my dolls. but, this is lacey, my mom's BBB erin.

and this is my floating luts summery 09 head, andrew.

i just sold lacey, and i'm trying to find andrew a new home, too.

koji went through a character change soon after i got him. i switched his short blonde wig with the longer one in the first photo and he became my first female doll, hortence. she was a precious little princess ♡

sadly, i lost a great portion of my doll photos due to a waning interest in the hobby in the past few years, and a computer change. i had all of my photos on myspace, too, so those are gone. booooo!

around the same time, haru got an image change. he went much more colourful and much truer to the original character i had planned for him.

this was the last look he had, which was my favorite.

in 2011, i decided that it was time to move on because i no longer felt inspired by my dolls. i sold both haru and hortence to save up for my dream doll, a zaoll luv. i was so happy that i was able to find one already FTM modded, and he was home soon after!
originally i got him to be a grown-up version of haru, but over time he adopted his own character, nicknamed bun.

i've only just recently gotten back into the hobby, so this is the only picture i can find of him, from right after i got him in 2011. he's been at a friend's house for a while for a new face up and stuff, and he'll be home soon! :aheartbea

52. I have so many, but decided to just to do Nefi. She also had short white hair and pink hair at times, but can't find those photos now!

Enjoy!! xx
