I've been in this Hobby for a long time now, going all the way back to 2006. And while my doll line up has changed through the years, one thing has stayed a constant - my dolls really need clothing! Most of my sewing time has always spent sewing for others, and so I have had a collection full of naked dolls for longer than I'd like. So, I decided to start my own little project journal on here. I would love for other doll collectors to enjoy this project with me, but I am really doing this for myself - to have a journal of my progress as I go along! The reality is that I will not likely do things very quickly, with everything that goes on in my life. But I hope having this Journal on here will encourage me to work on something for my dolls, even if its just a few seams on an article of clothing a day or even a week! Without further ado, let's start the journal! Project #1 - Dressing the Shortcake gang! This needs a bit of explaining, but I'll keep it short and then add the sketches of the outfits I intend to make and a picture of each doll to go along with it. Character background: I will be sewing for 4 of my anthro dolls. The inspiration for these characters is Vintage Strawberry Shortcake dolls! (I made a house out of foamcore to put my SSC dolls and the vintage furniture that I had with it. I decided the other days to move my resin dolls in, and the actual SSC dolls out!) The outfits are really inspired by the original outfits the old dolls wore, but in fabrics that I can easily find (sadly, no small strawberry print. ) Strawberry Shortcake - Pipos Happy Line Aloha Frog - blue Pipos Happy Line Aloha Frog - Strawberry Shortcake by PepperoniPizza 13BlackCats, on Flickr Outfit sketch: This one I'm not sold on yet.... I've always admired what you can and do make at such a tiny scale. I will look forward to seeing these come together! And congratulations on your incoming Picasso bean!
Thank you! I've started putting together one of the outfits but just haven't had a chance to get back to it. I'm going to be so proud of it all when it comes together. Thank you! I will always love the vintage Strawberry Shortcake dolls even though I'm not going to end up keeping mine. They are just so cute and happy.
Finally an update on here! I did make Raspberry's Tart's shirt, but haven't yet taken a picture of it to post it. But, I did make an outfit for a new doll that came home a few weeks ago and then this dress here. I adopted a Pukifee and I named her Rose Petal. Here is the dress that I made for her. I am honestly not happy that I decided to sew it in peach. I had initially planned to make it in pink, and then when I saw the peach, I'm like "yeeessss!" And then after working on the dress and putting it on her I was like "noooo!" It is growing on me, but yeah. I regret the fabric color. So, this was actually my test round of sewing the pattern that I drafted. I think I might adjust the sleeves a wee bit next time I make her another dress. It still needs a belt. I can't decide what color. And she needs little bloomers and tights. I will work on her wig when I have time, and then a hat will likely follow. But for now, here is Rose Petal in her (unfortunately) peach petal dress. I will update more pics when everything is finished Rose Petal's first dress by PepperoniPizza 13BlackCats, on Flickr
I re-made Rose Petal's dress, this time in the pink I had first imagined. I decided to do the underskirt petals in green to resemble leaves instead of the same pink. I like the contrast. She still needs her tights - I did a run on making the pattern for some tonight, and well, it's a launching point! I made some changes to my pattern and will try again tomorrow. She looks adorable I love how the original concept pink looks for her. The other dress was pretty too, but I agree, more vibrant color is nice.
Goodness, they're all so cute! I really love the petal dresses. The pink/green version is especially lovely; it really does look like a little rosebud. Strawberry Shortcake's dress is also very cute. I like the different fabrics you used there.
Thank you! I'm so much happier with the pink for her. I rehomed the peach dress with a family member for her tan skirt PKF. The peach is perfect on the tan skin! Thank you so much! I'm very happy with Rose Petal's dress and have been dreaming up a Daffodil inspired dress for her next. I can never stay focused on anything though, so I'm off on another tangent and will come back to Rose Petal later! The dress Strawberry Shortcake is wearing, I actually didn't make, but I know - it is SO cute on her. It's an original Cherry Merry Muffin dress that she is borrowing until I can make her something original to her. I need to return the dress to it's original owner, but for now, at least Strawberry is wearing something!
Double post for an update to my dolls' wardrobes! This time, I am making something for my Resinsoul Weis twins. Sunflower in the tan skin is getting an outfit first. Luck of the draw for her! I'm wanting to go a mix of Cottage Core/Lolita/Mori for the girls, so my first project is pretty much Cottage Core/Mori. Here's her shirt. I tuckered out before getting very far on drafting the pattern for her skirt. It's so nice to see her finally wearing something! I can't even express how tired I am of clothesless dolls, lol. so cute!! Looks straight out of a 1920's Halloween illustration! Definitely a style which you don't see so much, but I really love
It's always such a joy to see your outfits in the tiniest sizes. Love the checker print too. I bet Turnip is feeling very dapper and mischievous. Sunflower's blouse is fantastic too. Look forward to seeing the whole outfit!
It's been awhile since I posted anything - well, it's been a long time since I had anything to post! My doll collection has shifted quite a bit - I've abandoned some previous ideas that I had. That's just the way BJD collections can go, so I am quite glad I didn't sew much more for my dolls! This is the latest thing I am working on. My RS Ran, Bonnie is going to have a wardrobe of various vintage pieces. Most likely, I'll stick to the 20s through the 50s and throw in some modern pieces as well as she's not meant to actually be historical. Here's her 20's inspired undergarments. They didn't turn out as 100% accurate to the example that I worked off of, but I am happy with how they fit her. 20241202_220446 by PepperoniPizza 13BlackCats, on Flickr 20241202_220430 by PepperoniPizza 13BlackCats, on Flickr I honestly haven't had any time to put into designing her dress. I'm hung up on what to do fabric wise. I think I'll choose her fabric first. But we will see how it goes!
