Thank you all again for the comments! ^_^ I'm going to have to make another coffin soon because I'm moving and now I have an SD! So he needs a case. I'm also considereing making a case that can carry both my boys, so I might add some info to this thread about how that turns out.
Not going to lie, I thought about the classic violin case turned mini gun from classic mafia movies at first. But this is actually a good tutorial! Good job!
This is very helpful! I wonder if one could actually cover it in fabric....i will attempt this and post pictures!
wow! that was really well made ^^; I don't think i could do that xD I was never good at woodshop working @_@ but great job anyways :3
jennspeaks, if your husband has woodworking tools, can I borrow him for a day? You can both come, and you and I can chat and play dolly while he makes me one too? lol
Oh MY! That's just AWESOME! Not i need to make one! Lucky for me there is a lumber yard not to far from here! HOORAY FOR ME!!
I'm used to using my dremel for everything so I may just buy one of these and give this a go one day! I still have my Unoa's box, but my DD1 hasn't had a box since 2005!
ooh, collage or a custom paint jobber, like the old renaissance trunks that were also used as coffins.. too cool. Thnx for this!
Fufufufufufu~~ -calls up her daddy and begs for his power tools- This is the coolest freaking thing evaaaar. >w< Thank you so much for posting!
so cool I would love to make this for my dollies, however I do not have power tools.. maybe I could mix this up with the duct tape carrier bag ^^ that would be nice thank you for this tutorial
thank you for the tutorial! i think my dad has all the materials in his barn! look like i have something awesome to do!
That is super handy! I'll have to dig around in my dad's scrap wood to make something for my SD boy. Also, helpful note for anyone wanting to try this, you can cover up the nails with wood putty (it's the tan-ish stuff you can find near all the other woodworking things). Smear a smidge in, run something over it to make it level, then sand so everything is even. It hides the nails, and blends right in with the wood. You can paint it and stain it too, and it still won't show.
i am totally going to make one of these but in a hardwood like mahogany. i also want to add backpack like straps to the outside and straps to hold my doll in place on the inside. i will probably add a lip to the top too so that i can pad the whole inside. thanks so much for the inspiration!
Thank you thank you! My dad offered the wood putty idea, but I like the silver nails showing through. It's a great idea for anyone else who wants perfect surfaces! Great idea! ^_^ I wanted simplicity, so I didn't bother, but I'd love to see how yours turns out if you do that! I also added my most recent coffin creation, a Yo-SD sized one for my little Honey Delf. ^_^
i wish i had seen this a couple years back when i had shop class, but then the teacher would've been shocked huh? XD
Now that would have been cool! ^_^ Mine would have been made a lot better if I had a shop class. ^_^ I did all this flying solo with only a very basic knowledge of power tools and the such. XDDD
My problem as well! This is so cool though! Maybe once I go home for Spring Break I can borrow some of my dad's tools and give this a whack I think it would be pretty cool to try to do an inner satin lining (Mr. Crepsley's coffin anyone? lol) Thanks for sharing this tutorial!!!
Mr. Crepsley!!! i'll be your assistant!!! XD if you do it please send me a picture!! i think its wonderful how many possibilities there are for these coffins, they can be anything you imagine ^-^
This.Is.Awesome. I just got power tools for xmas, including new dremmel bits and a mini dremmel kit with tons of tips. I love tools. This would be totally awesome for my boy. >:] Thank you for your topic!
O_O Ooooh, this tutorial is awesome. I was thinking how cool it'd be to take floral foam with a doll's custom indent and cover it with a satin-y fabric to fit inside the coffin in a way that would give the doll extra security. Blah, I can picture all the details but until I actually try it(or someone else does) to see how it'd work I'm not sure if it'd do any good.
Omg, I want to make one of these and I haven't even gotten by doll yet. I would really like to get some pre-quilted fabric to line it with + the blanket. ooooooh. And put some pretty scrapbook findings as embellishments. I am excited to make one of these now... Wonderful idea!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I've been using it to make a double SD coffin, and so far it's turning out nicely. I'll post a picture once it's finished.
Hey I just made a coffin for my incoming vamp girl and just wanted to say this is an awesome tutorial. I have no skills power tools at all but am deadly with a hot glue gun! My husband measured and cut out the pieces for me and helped screw in the hardware. I also added a lip to the lid and padded the top and and bottom. If your having trouble finding hardware for this (I definitely did) I found paper mache boxes in Hobby Lobby for five dollars that hinges, hinged handle and 2 clasps. I removed the brads they used to attach the hardware to the box and replaced with tiny wood screws. I'm even gonna make on for my incoming 65cm HZ boy since he's definitely got the goth thing going. Great work! Thanks for tutorial - it's realy interesting. Good idea for the vampire dolls and goth dolls. And just a good generally! But my friend told me, that it's bad inside and you need to think obout the inner side - to make some pillows, add some lace to make it more interesting.
Thank you everyone for your kind comments! ^_^ Since moving I have none of my power tools besides what I can use in my Uni's shop class, so my SD still doesn't have a coffin of his own. XP I actually haven't made anything for my dolls since coming here. Huh, I need to remedy that...
great job i think i'll make asagi one...when i got him *-* i have an SD coffin.. i bought it...but i had to fix it on all ends *gg* i think i can handle that. the pics you have taken and the descriptions you made are very good to understand, i think! thanks for sharing!
Love the coffin, and I think you did a great job with only basic wood working skills. Good luck with the SD case and I can't wait to see pics posted of that.
You did a great job! With the building and the tutorial. Cause thanks to this I'm started to make a case for my boy.
I just had a thought that if you were handy enough~ You could add a lot of height and use the extra depth for storage by making a sort of door-piece that closes off the bottom so you could put your stuff in, close it up, and put the doll on top before you close the case. I'd think some sort of magnet or one of those things they put on entertainment centres that you have to put in to unfasten would work to keep the storage door shut. Or some sort of pull-string maybe. Dunno.
I think my little girls would absoutley adore this! As soon as they get here they'll both definatley have their own coffins.
