The basics of ordering a BJD

Apr 8, 2008

    1. I'm sure this is somewhere on this forum, but I had trouble digging up exactly what I was looking for. I hope I'm putting this in the right place...:sweat

So, I have yet to order my first BJD. I've heard all these horror stories and just wanted some clarifications on the process of ordering a doll. So, first you go to the site (bluefairy in my case) and order it. Like, put it in the cart, tell it where you live, and put in your paypal. I'm assuming you can use paypal? These sites are secure for credit cards, yes?

Then the wait from hell begins, and here's where I get anxious. I hear people talking about customs kidnapping the dolls, and having to pay to get them out. Forgive me, but...OMG, seriously? Does this really happen? How much is the fee? Why would they dollnap my baby? :...( And then there's doll damage/being sent the wrong thing. What happens in this case? Do you send it back? That'd suck! *_*

Any information regarding this would be very appreciated :aheartbea

    2. Most of the time, things go fine. However, its the bad experiences you're going to hear about and remember, since those are the situations people tend to report on.

I've not ordered from Bluefairy before, but the doll companies I have ordered from work as you said--put it in the cart, check out, pay with paypal. I've used paypal for several years without any issues.

Where are you from? If you live in the US, you won't have to pay customs--we don't get charged for dolls. Occasionally crap happens and dolls can get lost or damaged in shipping, but chances are you won't have problems. Many companies (though not all) use EMS, which is a very reliable service.

When you get your doll, check him/her over thoroughly right away. If there are any problems you'll want to let the company know quickly. If you wait, they won't be held responsible, since there would be no way to prove whether the doll's damage was their fault or if it was something you did. Some companies have a specific window of time for returns.

I've bought a number of dolls from both companies, dealers, and second hand off the forum without serious mishaps, so don't worry too much (I know its hard--especially the wait).

    3. Does anyone know how difficult it is to order from DollZone? They don't really have a cart to checkout with, so I'm worried about ordering directly off the site.

    4. I do live in the US! Yaaay, no customs fees for me! :aheartbea

I see, it's normally not a problem... Thanks a lot, that makes me feel better :aheartbea So, if worse comes to worse, you can, in fact, send it back. Will they cover the shipping?

    5. Order from Emory at The Junky Spot. It's easy, the shipping is fast, and sometimes he includes awesome free gifts with your order! I've ordered from him several times. If he doesn't have something in stock, he'll usually see what he can do to get it for you. He's great. :)

    6. What happens if the doll gets lost in the mail? Do you get refunded, or is it just your hard luck?

    7. But he doesn't sell the clothes or the wig, or even a faceup with the doll I want. Would he be willing to add those?

    8. Asking him would be better than asking someone else who isn't him. You get a true answer that way.

    9. Umm, only if there is damage can you send the damaged part back and get a new one. If you do not like the doll or feel bad about buying it they will not take it back, you have to sell it on the second hand market (here, ebay) to get your money back.

    10. Just to note, you said you're ordering from BlueFairy?

BlueFairy is a bit trickier than some - they don't take PayPal, for one. You have to do a bank transfer or use their WorldPay page and send them a bunch of information on the side. It's all written out in their FAQ, but make sure you follow the instructions carefully. ^^

    11. Omg your so lucky! Does anyone know if you have to pay Customs in Canada?

    12. Unfortunately, Canadian customs sees fit to charge us on our doll purchases. Sad I know. I'm hoping that I won't get caught on my next doll... I got lucky with the first one but...

If you live in Canada and want a Dollzone doll, you can order from http://www.featherfall.ca/ Uneide is great. :)

    13. Darn.... well, okay thanks, and Featherfall is a fantastic site! I love it xD

    14. Ahhh! So complicated! Maybe I should order a blue fairy doll from another site... Thanks for the heads up.:aheartbea

    15. Haha, yes, I realize that. But what if they send the wrong thing and it's not damaged? You can still send it back, yes?

    16. this is a big huge YES. personal experience here ^^; Luts sent me the wrong kid delf back in january. I showed them a few pictures, proved that it was hodoo and not bory, and i sent him back and got my bory within a week and a half =] Worked out pretty well, and i got to see a really cute blank hodoo XD

if you're looking for other companies you can buy bluefairy dolls from, i know Luts has some. I've dealt with luts a few times now, and that includes the one wher ei was sent the wrong doll ^^: They were wonderful about that though, i assure you =]

    17. Ah, thanks! I feel much better now.
