Julian's backstory is roughly based on the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. He once had a girlfriend who died and was sent to Hades. Julian was incredibly heartbroken so he traveled down to rescue her. Julian was able to bargain with Hades and was told he and his girlfriend could leave, but he must never look back. Upon reaching the world of the living again he looked back, forgetting he was told not to. He saw his girlfriend get dragged back down to the underworld and has since gotten a job at her grave site in order to stay close to her.

Julian also adopted a cat to fill the void in his heart. His cat's name is Waffles and Waffles has a fondness for human food. Despite his grief in the past, Julian is rather happy now. A lot happier and nicer than Artimis.
