Soooo I've never posted on of this side of DoA before, so forgive me for either formatting this wrong, or being in the wrong place. I figured I'd like to share what I've done so far, and maybe just post updates as I get this boy/girl/who knows put together! Please forgive me for the poor pictures as my phone sucks. Spoiler: Big pictures of modification! Warning Tentacles~ So this is my first time sculpting so I was very rough, and made a lot of mistakes. I think my next goal is to sand it and try to fix what I can. I'm debating sanding the suction cups off, and trying a second time around as I really just sort of went for it. I realize now I should have been patient and done it more in parts. I do however sort of love the shape of everything and how it moves. I wanted it to be fantastical and a bit bizarre. I plan to color them very cartoony/splatoon-ish as I don't really know if I wanna go super realistic with this honestly. This includes dying them either bright yellow or orange, unsure which. Honestly other then figuring this head out I have no clue what I want bodywise or anything! Sorry if I'm very ramble-y as I'm just pretty excited to see this project completed even if it is gonna take forever haaa. Feel free to give critiques, and any advice as I move forward would be super appreciated.
Honestly, I really love this! I like the suckers, they have realistic characteristics. I would be happy to sculpt at this level! If you're wanting the more cartoon-ish look, you might want to sand them off and make them more bubbled out (like donuts lol). I would leave them like this though! You could even branch out with character concepts, monster, horror, villian, mermaid, fantasy. Anything is possible, keep up the great work!
I love this sooooo much! Personally i love the suction cups on it, really gives it texture and character. Reminds me of another doll i saw a long time ago on here that was mldded to be very zombie ish. It looked like a rotting coral, and was super cool, if a bit creepy for my taste. If this is going to be a long term project you could make a project journal thread. Then u can keep all the updates in one place, and people can follow your progress easier. Cant wait to see what else you do on this!
These look fabulous! I'd personally think the imperfections make it look more organic, and with paint it ought to be perfect ^^ If you're going for more splatoon-y, though, you might be right about the suckers; that style goes alot more for color gradients than inlaid detail IMO.
The placement on the tentacles looks really good aesthetically. I can see what you mean about imperfections on the suckers, but I agree with others that they do make it look a bit more organic. It's up to you what you want, but this is looking pretty cool so far!
@Mangakaotaku911 Aw, thank you! I totally can picture what you mean by donut looking. I'm mostly into doing the coloring very bright and cartoony, but you are right that I could really take this anywhere! I sort of actually have a horror element going for a back story, but I haven't really thought it out too far. @lividdarkangel Thank you! I'm glad you like the suckers. I'm in a love hate with them right now. I see what you mean about it giving character and texture though. That honestly sounds super cool, and I definitely feel that sort of fits the theme I've got with this. (Zombie coral doll) Oh duh! I totally forgot about project journals. I think once I make my next step (probably body purchase and potential tentaclefication) I'll make a thread like that! @seppawku Thanks! I keep thinking that maybe once it is dyed/painted it'll look a lot better. And that's true, I'm still honestly on the fence about taking them off and trying again! But for a more distinctive Splatoon look that'd be the best plan. I may just end up doing vibrant colors and sticking with this though... @Magnus Vale It is my favorite part. There is just this fun flow that I really enjoy so I really don't wanna change that part of it. Thank you too! It is nice to hear that even if I don't change it is appealing in its own way. Honestly it is making me reconsider my initial plan. I've got stuff to think over for sure. @fairithilien Thank you~
Wow! This is fantastic. So much good movement in the tentacles. I'm very excited to see the end result.
Wow! This is amazing. The concept is fantastic and looks great so far!!!! Definitely want to see the progress.
I agree that some of the imperfections add to the realism of it, such as creases where the tentacles bend. It looks like they’re squishing! Great work, well done.
I love how you made the tentacles They look wonderful and very organic! But if you decide to re-work on them, I'm sure they'll come out looking even better so go for it
I just realized I never updated this. I no longer have this project with me (I sold her to someone who was absolutely in love with her strangeness!). Again, everything will be behind spoilers due to nudity. I made these by forming over the hand pieces and then putting my own magnets in them. They are a bit finicky with staying in but they worked! Spoiler: Tentacle hands: I knew from the beginning I was going to do something that POPPED and did we do it! This incredible orange/red is still one of my favorite colors I dyed. I didn't dye the tentacle hands because I knew I'd have them fully painted to match the ones on her face. Spoiler: The dye job: Gosh I still really, really love this face-up. The oil-like nature to it is incredible. They whole thing is strange and I'm so glad they could paint my just okay sculpting haha Spoiler: Painted! By the wonderful Angeltoast The very last shot with her pretty much as close to exactly what I pictured! Spoiler: The FINALE! I am so happy I went through this adventure with this project. I'm proud of myself for my follow-through on this whole thing. While I may have not kept her in the end the journey was great. I'd never done anything like this in my entire time in the hobby and I'm still pretty proud of myself for seeing it through. The only thing I never got was a wig I liked for her (I couldn't decide a color!). Thank you to anyone who saw me start this project and sorry for never getting it updated. This is it though!
