Hello, All! In the interest of flexibility for photo stories, potential animation, etc., are there any “practical effects” type methods to temporarily make a BJD’s eyes “close?” Not a permanent mod job, but the type of expression change you might see on a stop-motion model? I’m certain computer editing could work towards this end as well, but if at all possible, I’d honestly prefer to get a bit hand-crafty with it. Any guidance is appreciated!
I've thought of this, too. The only thing I can think of is a tutorial MyFroggyStuff on YT made (she mostly deals with playline fashion dolls) for making doll eyelids for Barbie and Disney Princess dolls. They were made with glue/Mod Podge and paint, and were made to the shape of the eye. I think these could work, in theory, for BJDs, but if your doll wears real eyelashes then they'd get in the way... Other than that, I'm not sure.
Photoshop. Like previous said, if your doll has eyelashes there’s no real way to move them out of the way for a lid closure. Learn to use the liquify tool!
If your doll doesnt have lashes you could make polymer clay inserts and paint them to look like eyelids. But you'd have to do a little photo editing to edit the upper lashline anyways, so probably easier to just edit in its entirety
