Aesthetics Tara try 2 (re-styling Dollmore Judith Tara)

Sep 26, 2023

    1. I got this Tara second-hand about a month ago and she's been a bit of a ride. She came with those really odd modded feet, for instance, so I quickly ordered some normal-looking parts from Dollmore. She came with a nice faceup that I didn't dare to wipe, so I've been compromising by making her a frilly dress and a sleek wig and getting her fancy shoes and she quickly spiralled into a doll I didn't really have fun looking at? I definitely wanted her with a spunkier personality so I went ahead with a style-180 instead of moping about whenever she was in my view.

This is what we're starting with:

She's pretty! And no shade on the previous faceup but she looks a little boring :sweat

Since the long wig didn't really do it, maybe a short one will! A pixie cut!

don't we all love combing yarn (this was not enough)

From a cappuchiner to a meaner! I realised very quickly that for a short haircut at 1/4 scale I'd have to start cutting it as I'm gluing more layers. Eyebrow razor was my tool of choice - worked well for feathered ends.
A top european tip for anyone looking for something similarly fast-drying to Aileen's Tacky Glue often used in wig tutorials: *this* is what you want. So much faster than PVA! I ran out of wefts half-way, made some more, cut my hand while doing it.

This is the harvest of the next day. I still want to get it a bit shorter and have to glue in some bits to hide bald spots.

I have so much trouble posing her normally and there she is, in pants, not throwing off her wig, not kicking and flopping around. And looking at her like this I was immediately convinced to take out the nail polish remover and redo her face.

next up, the new face ->

I usually start with blushing and always mess up brows and lashes, so I did it the other way around and it worked so well, I'm now mad at myself for not trying it any sooner.

Tip for dewy skin: dab a tiny bit of gloss on the face with a makeup sponge. Boom! - saved you from buying glitter or another medium.

The fixes on the short wig are still drying so I can't get a shot with that but look at her! I'm so happy I went for wiping and hoping I can do decent brows and lashes on her! I am very proud of my work this time. I also put in much sparser upper lashes to see her eyes better.

To conclude this silly little project journal - if you are doubting about redoing a doll that you're starting to feel weird about, please just go ahead and redo them! The worst that can happen is you'll have to do the faceup again.

    3. Your Tara sounds just like my Vampire Red-if he doesn't like what I've dressed him in, he won't stand at all! If he does, he's very cooperative. I really like the makeover you did-she's definitely got sass now!

    4. Thank you! It's definitely solid standing or no-limb-stays-still with her, there is never an in-between.
