Talk page for the 4th Annual San Diego BJD Con: Nov. 3, 2012

Aug 3, 2012

    1. Have questions about this year's San Diego BJD Con? Comments? Something else? Post it here!

    2. Hoooray!!! (or yippee-kah-yay???)

Thanks for organizing another of these. They are always a lot of fun. I'll definitely be there!!! :D

Will you be setting up a page for registering/paying?

    3. I'm going to try and make it this year.

    4. Hi April! There's no pre-sales this year: just show up and pay at the door! $10 :dance

    5. Sorry for the stupid question but can you explain this event a bit more? I'm new to the hobby and I'm interested in goin to several events on the west coast.
      Thanks in adavnce

    6. I'm gonna subscribe to this, but I'm not sure if I'm going to make it or not. I met brucedabold at the Fresno con, albeit briefly! Might be worth the drive to hang out with other dolly people. :)

    7. Hi Luasdad! Welcome to the hobby! :)

Our con is little thing that goes on down here in San Diego each year. It is a one day event, with dealers selling ball-jointed dolls, doll clothing and accessories, a large display area for people to bring and set up their dolls, a doll costume contest, and various raffles and door prizes. There are complimentary drinks and snacks, and tables for people to meet and greet. So basically it's an oversized meet-up!

I hope you can make it! :dance

    8. That's cool that you're just taking money at the door. Makes it much easier for folk thinking of coming at the last minute!

I love the Wild Wicked West theme. It should be fun to get stuff together for that. :)

    9. yay Richard and I will both be there we might bring friends too.
November 1st is my book release so I'll have a couple on hand to give you too.

You should go it will be fun!

    10. That will be awesome to see you and Richard and any friends you manage to cajole into coming down as well! :dance

    11. Hello hello~!

This will be my first time attending (moved all over and am currently in San Diego)

I was curious if there is any sort of swap-meet or anything like that planned? I have a number of items I'd love to sell/trade, but not enough for an organized booth or anything.

    12. We are moving into a larger room! The Marine Room at the Marina Village! :dance

The list of vendors is HUGE! :o
      --------------------------
      Pixiedust Design
      PamSD's Miniature Costuming
      Nancy Hay Decorative Arts
      Pinniped Designs
      jennygrey
      Bats' Lagoon & Machina Dolls
      Shiny Jumble
Ms. Cholong's DollHeart, Red Ruby, and JollyPlus
      MegannArt
      Susan Lake Designs
      Doll Peddlar
      --------------------------

And yes SporkNinja, we're going to try to have a table set aside for those who wish to do a swap meet. Just don't bring a boat load or we'll have to charge you for your own table! :)

    13. Yay! more room! :dance

ARGH! Still trying to figure out what my dollies can WEAR! Western has not been something I've bought in clothes style.

    14. What a great list of vendors!! If I weren't so strapped for cash I'd definitely make the trip!!! I hope this keeps getting bigger and better!

And for anyone out there undecided, I recommend going! You'll see a ton of dolls, have lots of photo ops and get to buy a lot!

    15. Sorry you can't make it, Chehime. (But I'll see you at Y!Con, right?)

elf-ears-- yeah, Western wear isn't big with my guys, either... although there's some Steampunk and Victorian-ish stuff lying about that might work...

I do like the theme, though! It'll be fun to see what people come up with! :D

    16. Yeah! I'll see you Y-con! With my unYaoi YoSDs! LOL!

    17. Hi really hoping I can attend. (I work at Disneyland so getting a Sat. off can be hard.) I haven't been to a doll-con (or any Con) before :)

    18. This is a wonderful event to hear about, I will be moving to San Diego very soon and this would be an awesome way to meet the local BJD community.
This is probably a silly question but it isn't necessary to bring dolls in costume is it? I don't think I could put something together on such short notice.

    19. anthrogirl: I hope you can make it!

akasora: No, you don't have to have your dolls in costume, nor do you even need to bring a doll. The costume contest is just for those who wish to dress up their dolls in the manner of the theme, The Wild Wicked West. I hope you see you! The San Diego group is really nice and welcoming, I promise!

    20. Richard and I are looking forward to it Bruce. Looking for a hotel room this month. I also have some extra Peakswoods postcards for your card table for attendees too if you would like them.

    21. I came last year! It was such a blast! I can't wait to go this year, because it's on my birthday, and this year I have a dolly to bring.Yay!

    22. Aichan: That's great! It'll be wonderful to see you. Sorry I missed your con :( And yes, bring the postcards!

1felic: Glad you enjoyed last year :) This year should be even better! :dance And Happy Birthday! :smallcake

    23. Hello Bruce,
I'd like to find out more about getting a vendor's table, if they are still available and if you approve (!)
I have beautiful head/ hand sets of an original sculpt of mine cast by Fantasydoll.
      Should I pm you?
      Ghostdollie

    24. I'm sorry, Ghostdollie, but all vendor tables are now full, but feel free to bring business cards/postcards and I'd be happy to add them to the gift bags. I can also put you at the top of a waiting list just in case a vendor has to pull out. PM me your email address and I'll keep you up to date. :)

    25. Thanks~! I'm not planning to, mostly one larger thing that I don't want to ship (I have an SD-sized couch), and some smaller items that could probably all fit ON said couch.

    26. Is anyone possibly running a carpool for this con? I want to attend, but my husband would rather me ride with others than driving there all by myself. I would definitely be willing to chip in for gas if anyone is running a carpool :3

I have one outfit that could kind of be a bit western so I'll probably have my girl wear that if I'm able to attend ^^ I'm excited to see the 1/3 display that is set up!

    27. Aww don't worry about it I know you were sending me love and you attended my first con ever, so I will always remember your support.

Will do on bringing the Peakswoods postcards. Can't wait!

    28. Hi Innocentsake! If you could post your general location that would help in setting up a car pool. I hope to see you there!

    29. Hiya brucedabold! I'm located in West Covina :)

    30. Last time a mentioned a car pool the post got deleted by mods! You may want to set up an LJ or a Facebook for the con and let people try to find carpools there.

    31. That's weird because the first meet I attended through DoA I was discussing car pool arrangements with another member of the board and nothing happened on that thread. But anyways, I might have a friend tagging along with me so I won't be driving by myself which fulfills my husband's wish of not driving alone hehe. Hopefully nothing happens and she'll be able to go with me *o*

    32. Richard and I just booked our room (=^,^=) Its pretty close to the venue. Its nice to hear about the trade area too. Those are always popular.

    33. Awesome! :dance :dance Looking forward to seeing you!

    34. San Diego is a fantastic place for a weekend trip. 'Hope you enjoy it, Aichan!

Innocentsake-- 'hope your arrangements work out.

      Anyone have doll requests?

    35. just checked my work schedule and they gave me the 3rd off! so excited!
april: if you could bring your DollChateau Alberta that would be amazing, I've been admiring that sculpt for ages :)

planning on bringing my MNF Chloe and my Limhwa ToYou Sara (and possibly my SP Piki mod if I can finish her in time) my Mom's going to bring her Realpuki Soso <3

I'm up for doll requests too :)

    36. Hi folks! Now that I am in So Cal I will try to attend this event (being able to pay at the door is quite convenient for those of us with fluid schedules :)

If anyone has a Dollstown 18 boy who would be willing to submit himself for a pattern fitting, I would love to meet up with you, and offer your boy a thank-you gift for his participation (which will involve him taking off his pants so I can fit a pattern onto him.) I would be oh so grateful!

    37. I'll bring her if I can! :D

    38. See the Saloon on the news page here. It's all coming together nicely! :dance

      Can't wait to see everyone!!!

    39. It's looking great!!!! 'Can't wait to see everything you all have been working on! :D

    40. There is not going to be a doll hospital by any chance? I was restringing a doll I got like a 1 or 2 years ago and I think 1- its not his original body ( and I was not told) 2- the head cap was switched on me to an older plate.

I dont want to assume anything but I would like to talk to someone who know's their Volks models.

      Just wondering..

    41. Oh how time flies! I don't have any of my dolls' costumes ready...or started... I haven't decided what they are... Well, Epifan has a Victorian-esque outfit, so it's kind of the time period of the Wild West.

Definitely bringing Niccolo and Aurus. Might leave Quinlan at home since the poor guy got his face-up chipped. Not sure on Saif and Epifan.

    42. Just a reminder to bring cash. The entrance fee is cash only, and while some of the vendors will accept credit cards, many will not.

The Wild Wicked West diorama is finished and ready! The costume contest will have a first, second, third, and director's choice awards! Attendees will vote by ballot for their favorite. There will be complimentary snacks and drinks, gift bags, and door prizes! And new this year there will be a voice auction at the end of the day for some of the props from the diorama!

See everyone on Saturday!! :dance :dance

    43. My friend couldn't make it, but since my husband knew how much I wanted to go he agreed to come with me yipee~ For coming with me I told him he could pick whatever restaurant in the area for dinner. The way to a man's heart is through his stomach right? I'm really excited to see everyone's dolls and the diorama!

    44. Ohhh, dolls and then dinner---sounds like a nice day for both of you! :)

    45. I am excited for Saturday. <3
My dolls won't be in theme, but they will be present at least. I am open to doll requests as well.

    46. Heh. Western isn't really a style for my dolls, either, but I will try and dress them sort-of-Western! No costume contest, though... unless they turn out to look better than I expect!

But it wills still be so much fun!

I am planning on bringing my Iplehouse Theo and Tedros and Carina... and my Doll-Chateau Alberta (since someone requested--and she is light).

I still haven't prepared anything... It will be last-minute, as always!!!! *_*

    47. Eee! I am excited, as per usual! It is always a lot of fun! I will be bringing my Soomies. Looking forward to seeing everyone and their resin beauties! ^_^

    48. Mine won't be either (with the sort-of exception of my Mom's Realpuki who will be donning a cowgirl hat for the occasion) I procrastinate so much that it's a miracle if all the dolls have clothes/shoes/wigs in time for the event.
