I'm feeling some major wanderlust recently, particularly for Japan. One of my personal favorite places to visit in Japan is the Swallowtail Butler Cafe in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Has anyone else been, wants to go, or is just a fan of the concept? It is such a fun and wonderful experience, and they really do the utmost to make you feel like a lady of the manor. Their tea is speciality blends of their own brand, the food is delicious, and even the tea sets they serve you are only top quality. Regardless of language ability or anything else, by itself the experience is still worth it, and the detail and effort they put into everything is noticeable. In addition to their usual restaurant, they also do a special "Bar Blue Moon," hosted in a swanky bar setting, but still with butlers, serving a large menu of their own speciality cocktails. Of course, being it's Japan, they also have their own music CDs and other performance media under the title of "Butler Operetta." Anyways, I'm just curious if others have this same interest! I know there was/may still be a large Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji fandom among BJD collectors, or perhaps participants of Lolita Fashion, and that seems to be the two things that Swallowtail visitors and admirers have in common. Or, if you are just missing traveling like I am, or other places in Japan, let's wait for the day we can finally return
I think it would be soo cool to go there!! I love tea and wish I could go to more places that serve it. Would probably be uncomfortable tho, because I don't speak Japanese and would feel bad. It would be fun to have a friend to go with, maybe bring a doll too!
I went back in 2013 when I was in college doing study abroad. Iirc, they are accustomed to having non-Japanese speakers visit and had an English menu. I went with friends and didn't have a doll with me when I went, but it would be a fun way to meet other doll owners out and about. I'm also into lolita fashion, so there's definitely an intersection of interests going on.
I’d love to go as I’ve been to a high tea in Victoria BC, and a Mother’s Day tea locally. Just going to Japan would be an amazing experience. My biggest travel goal is the UK and going to every castle and stately manor, Kew Gardens and Stone Henge.
These days they usually assign an English-speaking butler to any non-Japanese guests. But they do try their best if one is not available. It's definitely super fun to attend with a friend, and I really am curious how they would handle a doll at the table too. They take your bags and coats for you, so it would be something indeed.
Wow, 2013! Personally, I'm incredibly very grateful it's stayed alive so long. Both times I went to I hadn't bring any Lolita to wear for the occasion cuz it seemed so troublesome, but it's my goal for next time. Ikebukuro is actually a really chill and fun place in general, so I think it'd be a fun place for hanging out with others.
A few friends and I stopped in to buy a couple things and you can even buy pictures of the butlers. at least im pretty sure it was this cafe. Honestly i cant wait to go back to Japan. id like to bring my doll with me so i can get some great photos of him there (in Japan)
