    1. I joined back in January, but it seems I forgot to ever post my introduction....

      Hello! I go by Sof/DM Sof online, and I'm from the outer boondocks of Alaska and the only person I know offline who collects dolls.

      (Boondocks = basically the middle of nowhere)

      I used to collect porcelain dolls in elementary and high school, until peer pressure had me selling all my girls and moving on to other hobbies. Now that as an adult I'm more confident in myself and able to like things without other people's opinions affecting my enjoyment, I decided to restart my doll hobby with BJDs. Because I have no chill, I've bought 12 since October, almost half of which I'm still awaiting. Did I mention I have no chill? Six of them are Fairyland Alan sculpts, three each Minifee and Feeple60. :XD: They don't all have profiles yet because I'm trying to make myself wait until I've actually styled them to avoid repeats of the long-term updating situation I have going on with Trym and Arthur's profiles.

      I'm very much enjoying the chance to talk with people who appreciate dolls in the same way I do, and am thankful for this wonderful community!

    2. Welcome and I know another person who loves the Alan sculpt so your not alone. By the way it's not me. LOL
      Alaska is a lovely place and always thought I would one day visit, then Covid so no airplanes for me.
      Anyway congrats on joining hobby it is great and I hope you meet others who maybe closer to you as you are near Canada.

    3. Welcome! Haha seems you've been very enthusiastic about acquiring! I think that's normal for a lot of people (who can indulge) and are enjoying the early hobby days.
      I'm not interested in Fairyland myself, but since they are so popular I'm sure there is a very active sub-community where I expect you could meet some great friends.
      Boondocks of Alaska sounds like a fascinating (and challenging place). Farthest north I've been is Jasper National park in Canada. I lived in the boondocks relatively nearby for a while too, though I suspect you are much more remote ;)
      The hobby can certainly be plenty of fun on your own, at least I think so. With the online communities here and other places (like instagram etc) you should be able to share your joy with others.

    4. Hello! I used to live in Anchorage for 15 years until last summer and moved down to Washington. I do miss Alaska a lot.
      Welcome and you’re not alone in Alaska who collect dolls, there are few in Fairbanks, handfuls in Anchorage, and couple in Juneau. There is a facebook page for Alaska BJD collectors, tho its kinda quiet and hardly anyone post anything.

    5. I have met a Canadian collector, and she is on the other side of Canada

      Two are off getting their face ups, two are on their way, one is my cuddle buddy (the weight of a resin doll is just :D), and one is challenging my ability to adapt patterns to tiny measurements and smirking at me the whole while. I'd regret that face up choice if it weren't just so her :XD:

      I'll have to check it out! I'm about 800 miles outside of Anchorage as the crow flies, and all the other locations are even further away. I'm working on a few locals, though, trying to spread the joy around. ;)

    7. You make me feel better about having bought three and just starting out, haha. But this hobby would be nothing without passion like yours. Hopefully this place fills the need you have being so seemingly far away from other passionate people.
