Supia Girls Discussion Thread Part VI

Dec 14, 2013

1. I'm new to this thread and to Supia dolls. I watched a couple of YouTube videos about them and like their look. I tried emailing thru their website with no reply. I registered and it won't let me login....said password is not correct. So now I'm concerned that they do not respond and that makes me crazy. I'd like to know the payment method...I usually PIF but want some communication. Any problems with that? And speaking of the double joints. They must be a good thing but I don't care for the look. Is there something extra special about them. Any input is appreciated.

2. Cathie Milwaukee: They don't use the email in my experience, you have to write to the Q&A board. I think the only payment method they offer is via paypal, someone else who has ordered lately can confirm that...

3. Thank you for that. Paypal I've done before. All this overseas buying makes me a little nervous. Is there a long wait for their dolls?

4. It depends if they had a promotion recently. I've had to wait as long as 4 months and as little as 3 weeks for Supia. Also, the double jointed body is just fantastic. I adore it.

5. Paypal will now let you dispute a charge for 180 days. That's a LOT better than the old 45 limit. So international pre-ordering is a lot safer now.

6. And Supia is an old and reliable company, they won't steal your money and dissappear lol.

7. Just a beautiful face. Is that the faceup from the company? I wish there was more about her body and how it works. I see very little about Supia on the net even though I know she is rather popular. Also a lot of head keeping and body switching....is there a reason for that. I'm not good at jimmy rigging. So far I've removed the feet/hands on a doll but not the head. It'll be very hard to choose which face, too many are really nice.

8. I've been doing a lot of overseas buying. Sometimes I struggle with understanding their site, sometimes it goes smoothy. (Iple House is a dream) Just lately I've tried to ordered clothing and I think the sites aren't working. Can't get it to take and order. So I keep plugging away. I like to ask before I order...I'm a nervous nellie. I would like to know how this body compares to a Peak's Woods SD. That would help me. Also the quality of Iple House is excellent...still working on the Supia and hesitant on the double joints. Seems to me it's about 50-50 on who like what.

9. Yes, that is the company face up. Supia does really beautiful and detailed faceups. I think Peck30 has all her dolls with the company faceup. I'm just a DIY-er and I like to change it up, so I end up wiping a lot of faceups on dolls I own. Supia doesn't get assaulted as much, probably because they are just very well done.
I will help you today and take some pictures of the body. We celebrate Easter so it might take a bit. I'll post a link to my flickr when I'm done :D

EDIT:
I took some nude shots in different poses. Check out my flickr for more :)

10. I'm giving up. I've spent so much time, days actually trying to register at Supia. I've change the password etc...says not correct. I have no way to contact them. It's like throwing money down a black hole. There must be some reason why this isn't working. Just won't let me in as a member.

11. Have you signed up? Or are you just signing up?

12. I've signed up about 5 times. When I want to login it it won't let me. There is no one to help. I can't ask a question is I can't log in. Rather ridiculous.

13. Send me a PM with your Supia user id and I will see if I can help.

14. I had a similar problem with the Supia site and it seemed that it capped my password at 8 characters. I found that I had entered my password (for instance) as Password12 and realized that it ended up being Password. So you might check to see if something like that happened.

15. The registration page says 4-12 characters, no spaces or special characters, but I have had the 8 character limit on some sites.

16. I had it only on the password since my login is 10 characters, which it takes just fine. But that password is shorter than what I normally choose...so I have to remember that.....I've been hemming and hawing over Muriel for quite awhile now.....

17. SUCCESS, FINALLY. Man, registering should not be that difficult. It seems I did need the RecomID....even then had trouble with the security code. And I'm not even drinking, yet. Anywho....now I can print some photos and check out the doll I might want. This is a big decision. Not only that, I have many at home that I no longer look at that need to be sold. It's such a tedious job finding the boxes and certificates etc. And I've been working hard on transferring all the photos on my Ipad to my desktop computer and adjusting them in Photoshop so I can burn them to disk. I never had time for much of this while working. Everything was done on the fly. Now I have time to focus seriously on my hobby. Thanks Nancy for pushing me through that.

18. Congratulations! Now you can concentrate on choosing a doll!

19. I'm in that dolly shopping phase now--consider me dangerous. I think I've narrowed it down to MUSE but mostly likely in NS. I'm after those cute little elf ears that I noticed in the parts menu don't come with the doll. I might have overlooked that. Also heel feet. The makeup is my problem...don't care at all for reddish brown brows, just a preference. I like darker brown but not black. Might be a problem. I don't do faceups. So did get in the Q&A section to ask for a pic of NS with SMOKY makeup. Might be too much for a little elf. I am in noooo hurry. U know how it is, once you order a doll U R already shopping for the next one. I received my shipment of SD clothing from Sadol this morning. The school blazer set. OMG, what perfect workmanship. And real button holes. I'm impressed. Still don't like the idea of their dolls with a "heel leg." I can see myself cursing. Doesn't seem all that easy. Still on the fence regarding ball joints or double joints. And are the small or large breasts most popular? Have no clue. Seems that the ball jointed doll has a normal medium-like breast. I'm mostly concerned with clothing fit.

Regarding my stuggle with registering and placing orders for clothing. I think the problem was a pop-up blocker. This morning I was able to place an order with SWdoll that was sitting in my cart waiting for payment. It wasn't there yesterday? Went thru today. And since joining DOA I've started using THREE (3) different browsers. Each has different benefits. Explorer was driving me nuts when I tried typing on DOA...like pounding to write. Took forever. Doesn't do that in Foxfire. It's always something.

Now I wait and think...

20. Muse comes with both human and elf ears, so you're OK there. :)

21. Well, I happen to have a picture of Muse in NS with the small bust, with elf ears and smoky makeup. Here she is from my box opening. You can also request changes on the Q&A board in the makeup and Supia usually complies.

22. Don't think I'd miss one little trick. I did watch your video this morning. Nice video. Just couldn't tell if it was the default makeup or not. All I want is no reddish brown...so maybe it's doable. Would be silly not to--just a minor fix. Thanks for your effort. I LOVE your flicker album. Just full of eyecandy.

23. Em - Yaay, does she? That means i accomplished my goals!! i wanted her to look just like Bom XD

Viivi - I have the single jointed one, they sucks. :X , i really mean it i thought at first she would be great because the single jointed body has the "deep" sculpt on the stomach that made me think twice.. but now i regret , i tried to restring, sued but it still don't pose the way i want, and very hard to pose.. I think you might consider buying the double jointed one, That's why I am now looking for a body that will satisfy me :P, and i still can't find one.

24. It's interesting how different type of posing people want for their dolls, I think the single jointed body poses freaking well and it's one of my favourites of all bodies I have ever posed. :'D But then again I can't really stand chest joints at all as they aren't realistic enough for my taste when posing, so even if a body posed otherwise well I usually don't buy it if it has a chest joint... My wallet thanks my pickyness. :D

25. I have had both bodies at one point or another, and I like them for different reasons. I think the double jointed body is easier to pose and has more flexibility overall, but it can be kickier and harder for me to stand. My single jointed body is more difficult to work with, but with sueding and wiring, she's a rock. Even in high heels! I think it's definitely up to the owner to decide which they like best. Everyone has their own preferences :)

I have a question for you hybrid knowledgeable people: Do you think a Muse head could work on an Iplehouse nYID body? Resin match is not an issue for me, I'm just curious about proportion and fit. And help would be appreciated!

P.S.- I especially love the detailing on the Supia single jointed body. Those butt dimples are adorable! <3

26. I'm rooting for my Haeun (which is still on the way from the company). She's gorgeous with both elf and human ears :D

27. OK guys, I've done the deed. Supia finally answered my question and seemed willing to make a tiny adjustment. The photo of Muse I sent them was in the smoky FU. I couldn't tell the natural FU from the smoky. It was not labeled in Flicker. Naturally, the sculpt I want has the least description notes of any. So I paid for the smoky Muse in the NS with dark brown brows (yeah!). Not reddish brown and not black. Really a simple request IMO. I also got the heel feet and the pointy hands. Checked the PayPal send $$ to bank at the bottom but nothing. Checked PayPal, nothing. Then back to my status and no $$ received. So with this company and we know they are all different--I went back to actually SEND the $$$ and I did get an A-OK, you sent the payment successfully. Whew! And after many private notes to others and reading, reading, reading--I got the double-jointed body with small breasts. Now why was that so hard for me? I'm still worried about the joints but would be worried about the other also. So I guess I w-o-r-r-y period. I want her to look like a young elfin girl and also I don't own a BJD with small breasts. This will make her different. I already have a name (shock). It'll be KIRA like the elf in The Dark Crystal. Seems so long ago that puppet movie was made but I always love the storyline. Now I wait...

28. Congratulations Cathie! I'm sure she will be lovely!

29. Congrats Cathie! Those were the specs for my Muse when I had her. I miss that girl! :)

30. Hello all!

I have a Supia Muse and I'm having quite a bit of trouble posing her. She is on the single-jointed old body. I know there are regular posing limitations with that body, but this goes way beyond the regular posing issues-- I can't even get my girl to stand! :pout:

The issue lies particularly with the knee joints. She has a pretty heavy body and her legs/knees don't seem stable enough to support her body. Please help~ :daisy

31. alisameow- The knees on the single-jointed body can be tricky! I definitely recommend sueding and maybe even wiring the legs. Stringing is also important, and I have found that it needs to be tighter on the old body, but I do prefer tighter stringing anyways, so you may want to experiment a little. My girl now stands easily and holds poses a lot better. Also, the hip joints (where the thighs meet the hip sockets) like to swivel, which can make the leg line unstable. Try making sure they are facing the right way. One last tip, the old bodies like to stand better with one hip slightly pointed out, in a model-esque pose. I don't have pictures to properly explain it, sorry, but perhaps someone else does?

Hope these help :) And congrats on your Muse! Please post her if you get the chance, Muse is one of my favorite sculpts.

32. Well, after reading the posts on the single joints, I'm glad I ordered the double-jointed body. I'm still a little squeemish about it as those knees aren't all that pretty. I've been making a ton of over-the-knee socks that are turning out really well, so that might help. I use recycled clothing and find the perfect stretchy nylon type of knits in the short sleeve section of thrift shops. Seems summer clothing has more of what works best. Recyling clothing has always been fun for me. Lots of beautiful fabrics out there that have tons of life left in it. Sometimes I find better stuff than what's in a fabric shop. I'm a hawk!

33. Thanks for your response, @zomjirate! I will hot glue suede her this weekend and that should help. I haven't restrung her exactly, but I did take her head off and just played around with what a tighter stringing might feel like by pulling on the S hook a bit~ she was pretty kicky. A proper restringing may be in order, though.
I've never heard of wiring. Is that adding wire in addition to the elastic string? I'll have to Google that one. If I'm imagining it correctly, I think adding some nice stiff wire would help... Hmmm *thinking gears are turning*

I will post some pictures of all my girls soon! ~ Thank you!! :daisy

Oh, I hadn't even thought of that! I've had my Muse in a skirt, but maybe some sturdy jeans or knee high socks, like you said, would really help support her! I'll have to blow the dust off of my sewing machine first lol What a great idea! I do have an old pair of jeans I can reuse :o GENIUS! Thanks for the tips, Cathie Milwaukee! :)

34. I think this might be what you mean, lols:

But yeah, back to the single-body posing thing. I personally love the single-jointed body (especially the aesthetics of the body :D) and think it can pose just as well as my double jointed dolls. They can even touch their face!

My Supia Rosy is tightly strung and she has wires up her arms and in her legs including the pelvis. Wiring definitely made a difference for her and it prevented her legs from breaking because as you said @alisameow, the knees are weak and can break/crack (I had this happen already) because the lower leg part likes to swivel to the side.

Another thing that I found helpful in standing is the heel feet. For some reason, I think she stands better in her heel feet, hahah! So my girls are always in their heel feet. I think it just takes a little bit of practice and getting used to the body to find out what works for posing and standing. But yeah, the hip pose will help her stand, hahaha!! Good luck!!

35. Just discovered Supia today. Wow, their sculpts are amazing! And everyone's picspam is making them even harder to resist :)

Is there a thread for Supia's mini girls too? I can't find one...

36. Hello, lovely people!
So, I'm relatively new to the bjd hobby and I think I've found my Grail doll! The Supia Nael double jointed tan skin! I'm interested in a Native American look, but love the elf ears option. She would be my first SD. They are such beautiful dolls! Any issues with the tan resin? Any idea when an event may be coming? Thanks in advance!

37. Libacious1, welcome to the hobby! I don't have any Supias yet, but one is on my wish list. I'm not sure if they do this every year, but last year they had a winter event and a summer event. You could get a free doll head or free shipping depending on the date of your order with a minimum purchase amount (usually ~$300). I would expect they would have another one around July, but you never know!

38. Thank you! I will remain patient and be on the lookout! :)

39. They usually do a free shipping event int the winter followed by a free new head event. There was also a 5% discount event in March, so check their site frequently!

40. bunny27- You nailed it! xD That's exactly what I meant. The single jointed body can be so expressive!

Leafylew- I'm pretty sure that the outfit that bunny27's rosy is wearing is from Sadol. They have had some nice lingerie sets that fit Supia girls very nicely.

Libacious1- I love Nael! <3 She looks absolutely stunning in tan. She's a great choice :)

41. Sorry if this has been asked before, but I was so sure about getting a supia for my first doll until someone's photo online really put me off. I was considering getting a supia original body until I saw the hands... I don't know if it was the way the photo was taken or something, but my question is are the hands really big in comparison to the rest of their body? What do you guys think of supia hands?

42. Hey! I'm sorry I've only just seen your reply! Thanks very much! It's such a shame, I really prefer the way the small bust looks on the single jointed body, but there is no point spending all that money if they can't pose that well. :(

43. I want to buy a tan Naomi....does anyone have any owner pictures of her? ;u; I can't seem to find any....really, only one.

Also, regarding their sales...guess I'll have to wait. B') Was last year's free head event in July?

44. Also, can anyone who has a tan doll (any mold) post pictures of their company face up? :> And then let me know if you chose natural or smokey?

45. The free head event is usually around Christmas. Supia has lots of great pictures of their dolls on flickr and they identify the makeup.

46. Ooh thank you! I've seen all the ones on flickr, but I was hoping for some owner pictures too. A lot of the times, it looks different from different angles. :) So if anyone has any, I'd super appreciate it. ;u;

Also does anyone have any experience with their tan resin consistency? Has the color changed a lot? I'm looking at a body from 2013 and 2014 on the marketplace. And hoping to match a brand new Supia head to it.

47. Thank you!!!!

48. Hey friends!
I just traded for a Lana with the Smokey make up. She's going to be named Lavender! Sorry for the messy photo, but her big doey eyes are so enchanting. I need to take a photo with all three of my girls now :)

49. Tetradeka, she sorta sucks you in with those eyes, doesn't she? :love
Can't wait to see picture of all three together!

Your got yourself a really nice doll. Love the faceup and her blue eyes. Lavender is a perfect name and with that wig, you won't forget like I do.

51. Thanks guys. She's super cute and her big eyes are adorable. I feel like I might have been impatient and jumped in too fast with Lana. I really wanted Muse, but thought to give Lana a try. Now every time I look at her I expect to see Muse's face and it catches me off guard. I'm not sure if I should just order a Muse head because the resin match would be off, since this Lana was made in 2013 and has mellowed slightly. Or maybe just be patient and let her hang out here for a week or 2. I'm not one to give up on a doll as soon as I get them. I don't think I've ever done that... I always give them a chance. But my buddy is saying I'm trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

52. Before you give up, you may want to try slightly smaller eyes.

53. Thanks Nancy, I did put in 14mm, 16mm, and 18mm eyes in her. She has 16mm in now, but the 14mm caused gapping and the 18mm didn't fit the eye well. T_T

54. 14/15 Eyeco eyes might work.

55. Or 16mm Vings, they have a smaller iris than other brands and they are pretty urethanes. :3

56. Thanks guys for the recommendations. I'm wondering if it's just her heavy eyeliner that's throwing me off. She look so gothy and I want her all light and fairy. I decided to take her out and do a proper photo, not just my phone.

57. Hi everyone! Yesterday I joined the Supia ranks, finally. This is a doll I've had my eye on for some time. Not quite a grail doll but still very much desired. I'm her third owner, I think. She's just so incredible and I'm glad I got her. She's a Heaun, small bust, and I thought I'd prefer her human ears but I'm loving her elf ears. She also came with heel feet.

I'm torn between naming her after a character I came up with them I was a teen, inspired by a young adult author. The name would be Chant and I always thought of her as an "urban fairy". The other name would be after a bird, maybe Wren, Sparrow, or Lark. Either way I think she would still be some sort of urban fairy.

I love your girl and I think she looks whimsical and slightly mysterious. It's a bummer she's giving you problems but at least you tried to make her work. It can be so frustrating to work with sometimes :(

58. Congrats Kitty! She's very lovely. I love the name Wren for an urban fairy.
