Stylized bjd- in flumo and Polymer clay- I need a little advice

Mar 28, 2012

    1. Hi,
I finished my bjd, I sculpted the original in premo polymer clay which I used to created plaster molds to pour the doll in Flumo. My first thought was, that by making a flumo piece, I could make a few dolls from flumo and create a set of parts to create my rubber molds from. My dilemma is, after I poured the flumo pieces, I realized the shrinkage was more than I thought it would be. I love the doll's original size, and I had planned on taking the plunge and casting it in resin, but the problem I have with that is, the head is completely solid and I don't want to ruin it by cutting it open to get the armature core out so that I can make the head hollow. Does anyone know of a way that I can cast the head hollow in resin without destroying the head? Otherwise, I will have to just go with the smaller version of the doll. I wanted to attached some pictures of the polymer piece, but the system would not allow me to add and attachment or paste a photo.

Also, because the piece is under 13", do you think I need to plan to create a channel in the arms and legs for stringing when I make the rubber molds or should I just drill it after I cast it in resin. I plan on using Smooth on 305 to cast it. Anyone have any ideas?
      Thanks,
      Tigerlily

    2. You can definitely cast a hollow head from a solid sculpt. Take a look at this thread, starting on page 2.

People do drill after casting sometimes, even on larger dolls, so that might be the better method for a small doll.

Attachments have always worked for me... what happens when you try?

    3. Thanks,I will take a look at the thread.

When I try to add attachments, there is no button to attach a file. It says at the bottom, I can't post pictures. If you know how to get around this, please let me know. I really wanted to post pictures of the sculpt.

    4. Can you upload your photos to flickr or photobucket and user [ IMG ] code to post your pics here?
