But the appointment is slated for one, dear, so until then it’s just you and I…” Mr. Perle: “... and the documents from Branson’s department… *ahem* … won’t take me but fifteen minutes if you keep quiet. The cafe it is. You like their salads–sensible girl.” Mr. Perle: “As a reminder, I expect you to establish rapport with our guests this evening. I have it on good authority Mr. Daggory is quite fond of young people, and I expect we shall find him susceptible to your charms…” Mr. Perle: *Heh* “As are we all, but I can hardly be jealous of my own bullet’s trajectory, hm?” Mr. Perle: “Just ensure there are no misfires. Everything is riding on… Mr. Perle: “...” Mr. Perle: “Nervous, sweetheart?” Gladys: “N-no.” Mr. Perle: “You ought be. It's unsafe to dawdle in public.” Mr. Perle: “Now, the Daggorys are primarily in shipping logistics, but my research has revealed they own racehorses. When introductions are made, I will open, and then endeavour to occupy our other guests…” Mr. Perle: “While you work your clever spell on the patriarch. Remember, Dolly. Body language.” Mr. Perle: “Should all else fail, you know what to do. You will not lose me this client. Understood?” Gladys: “Yes, Mr. Perle.” Mr. Perle: “... That’s my girl.” _____________________________________________ THE END
Fascinating narrative here! Really good visual storytelling too, shot by shot, very cinematic! That's not as easy as people think.
Wow! The styling, photographs, and expressiveness of the characters is super impressive and really makes them come alive. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, I'm absolutely amazed. Gladys' expressions look so realistic, the shots are beautiful, it looks like they are life-sized, I'm in awe. The way you changed her expressions just by moving her eyes and tilting her head is incredible.
Wow! That was chilling. I was so hoping that young man would save the girl. The backdrop and the photos' were amazing. Thank you for sharing this.
Oof. Okay, now I get why Uri won't take that dude's money. I hope Gladys knows where the will is kept. Is this their first meeting or a later echo of it? Lovely camerawork and posing as always. I especially like the use of light in this one... Gladys seeing a glimpse of sunlight from her place in the shade. But is Uri standing in the light, or getting pulled into Mr. Pearle's shadow with her?
Wow - what a heartbreaking "movie" °_^ What an elaborate photo story, made with great attention to detail - fascinatingly perfect! A heartfelt thank you for sharing
@Rosslyn Thanks so much. You know, when making notes before doing something like this I try to suggest 'so-and-so blurred in foreground, focus on x' type stuff, but in the end I never know what it'll look like until I'm actually peering through the camera lens. Still learning. @hobbywhelmed I love how that is possible with these dolls, despite the static expressions. @Yuu-Hanabusa That is very generous praise and makes me happy to hear, thank you! @MistyZenith Thank you, it is a bit fussy doing anything with their eyes, but just getting down really low with the camera helps them look bigger. I was on knees and elbows on a public sidewalk for far too long to make this. @animemom There's still hope! Poor guy is still battling his own demons, but he wants to help her... @Errantry I was really excited to start unveiling Mr. Perle. He is a pretty nasty person, but I have always had fun getting into his terrible thought processes. He's got his own little reality going on in his head, for sure. Yes, a smart girl would do some snooping and make sure everything is in order. Just in case. I have so many photostories in my queue postponed due to missing pieces. I picked this one just because it was possible and could sorta float in the timeline. When I have more completed, maybe I'll rearrange the release order somewhat for narrative flow. It could be these two have had a falling out and haven't spoken in a while, and she wasn't even sure he was okay. Or it's just a snapshot of the relationship and having to ignore one another in public. (From sometime before Perle found out Uriah was his son? Or maybe his eyesight is just that poor. ) I am so happy you managed to see some depth in what began as continuity errors due to losing a race with the sun. I'll accept the praise, but I won't pretend I planned it that way. @JL_The_Lion Your comments mean a lot to me-- thank you.
I just had a great time reading all your photostories! I hadn't discovered your blog before, but I'm very glad I did today. I love the characters you've created. Don't mind if I suggest a Lysander one be next I'm very curious and excited for more! Your photography is beautiful and I'm really impressed with the range of emotions you're able to convey. The angles and composition are very good. Did you have help for the shoot? I can't imagine taking 3 out on my own and not having them all fall on their faces. It seems like a huge challenge even with someone to spot for you.
@nyaaain So glad you like them! There is more Lysander ahead. He's currently having a new wig made, though, so I can't say what the very next installment will be. I've been working on a 1/3 scale set, and eventually I'd like to set up his and Gail's dorm room inside, which will open up more possibilities. Thanks! I would have loved a helper, but this was all me. The advantage of shooting on concrete is that it's a predictable surface--and Uriah is actually a very good stander--but the dolls are being reinforced/propped up by thick wires that have been either carefully angled behind them or edited out. There is a bit of risk if a joint were to shift suddenly, but that isn't super likely with them all strung tightly, sueded and wired. Sudden gusts of wind might be a problem, though; that split second where you might have to choose who is most important to save... Honestly, the biggest obstacle is time. I have three young children and even a photoset this small takes hours to shoot. Hard to get away. But it's a huge treat for me.
Sorry to be late for the party, seems all good praise has been given ( and rightfully deserved)! So I guess I will repeat things, but here goes: Thank you for posting this lovely story! Feels more like a film than a photo story again due to the use of angels and frames. I would like to see you directing a film one day ;-) Also the story is further establishing the characters so far. Mr Perle comes across to me as a very eager businessman, ruthless, also pretty controlling and patronising towards Gladys. It struck me immediately odd, that Gladys recognised Uri, but his father didn’t, but you already explained that in a post above. It is really outstanding how you bring the dolls alive! The last two photos are fascinating to me. No, not only because they are portraits of your lovely new Uri version, but really because there is not much change in the picture except for a slight tilt of Uris head and some hair falling into his face and that makes the expression on the face change so much! That you did all this alone in public makes it even more outstanding! (Not to mention that you have a full family life, too! ) Last but not least; The Chanel handbag is really sweet! Did you make it? Looking forward to the next one!
