strange & dark & unusual designs?

I have just had the pleasure to order my dream obscure sculpt: Dodollsdream Aurelia Lulleby. When I saw the sculpt first about a year ago I was not a fan, but I loved the ‘normal’ Aurelia head. I missed the preorder then and while waiting for the next chance, I fell deeply in love with the Lulleby Aurelia head! Now I just can’t wait for her to come home!

 

My personal favorite unusual sculpt is Xagadoll's conjoined twins! I was lucky enough to get in on their very short limited preorder, and these girls are stunning! I normally don't care for 1/4 scale, but I couldn't pass them up. I missed out on Doll Chateau's conjoined twins years ago and never found them secondhand, so I ordered this set within about 20 minutes of finding out they existed!

 

There are not many sculpts that make my heart flutter every time I see a picture of it, but Birdcube Xuanfu is one of those sculpts. I never thought I would get the chance to own one since I missed the first pre-order, and I was *almost* content with just admiring it in owner pics because I am not looking to collect more 70cm+ dolls- but as soon as I saw there was a second pre-order I jumped on it right away

He'll be on a bust since space is limited- but even in his current state as a bald floating head, he's absolutely gorgeous

 

I personally have this lady, a Minifee Hwayu Catacomb.



But my all time favorite macabre sculpts to admire from afar are Dollzone’s Star and Moon.

 

@carterhaugh Spirit Fetus (Ling Tai) has a spider-eyed sculpt called Zhu Hong which I really was in love with. I couldn't find a way to hybrid (I'm picky with bodies) so I gave up but it's a great sculpt.
Birdcube makes lots of creepy sculpts but it seems like she's mostly making kigurumi masks lately? I love that Danita sculpt a lot as well as Xuanfu mentioned by Mainframe110. He's also got a non-scarred sculpt which is one of my all-time favorites but I missed that order.

 

There’s quite a few dark designs I like, loved some of Doll Chateau’s unusual releases such as their rather spikey Irma although I never actually bought her.
Love the Coral Reef sinister bunnies too especially the one with the face full of teeth, their Lotus model (I only have the head) and I really wish I’d thrown caution to the wind and bought that multi limbed cyborg one they had!

To be honest I find most skeletal/partial skeletal dolls fascinating as well. They tend do be dolls I admire but won’t get though as to bring out their best you need to body blush which involves taking apart…..not something I at all confident with.

Probably my favourite was the Dollzone Tarot The Moon which I thankfully managed to grab the body of several years ago, it’s to be hybridised with a Minifee head I got around the same time. I just loved the pitted torn ‘flesh’ and exposed spine way they sculpted it.

@Blodeuwedd Love that hybrid! There’s something weirdly peaceful about the way those (half) bodies pose.

 

Absolutely they have such a strange delicate grace about them despite being technically designed to look like a torn corpse.

 

I’m so excited for you! that’s one of my favorite artists and every single one of her dolls is stunning and unique!
