Hello, Some time ago I bought a Tibetan sheep mohair wig. The wig has curls and it is beautiful. But I was wondering if it is possible to straighten the fibres? As it is natural mohair, could it be straightened with a hair straightener at a very low setting? I guess boiling the fibres just works with synthetic hair. The cap is made of leather. For reference, it's this one. [/url] Will it be possible to reduce the volume of my girl's hair so that she doesn't look like a mop?
Yes, it should be possible to style with tools meant for human hair. A caution: The fibers from animal hair can absorb some oils from products, but oil can sometimes stain resin so if you use human or pet styling products try to go easy on them especially on the longer parts of the wig that touch your doll directly. I have used an old hair straightener to iron out yarn with a high natural fiber content before and it worked well. I did spray the hair with water section by section and used a low heat.
You can try carefully thinning out the hair with an eyebrow razor or small scissors to reduce the volume.
Thank you. I was thinking to use some hairspray perhaps, but not oil. I'm too scared to stain the doll with it. I didn't though about it!I have some thinning scissors at home so I might give it a go. Thank you!
Yes, a very low heat setting and thinning shears as stated above. I would be cautious not to get the leather cap wet, so as to avoid any warping. So make sure all the styling is done dry. I don’t think you will need any product at all, just the straightening and a good haircut should suffice good luck
