(I didn't find a thread like this, but feel free to delete this if I missed a similar one. ) Tell us your current avatar's origin. : 3 Is it your favorite doll, something you drew, a picture of you, a character from your favorite show, or something you really like? Mine is a picture of a small painting I made of Pyramid Head from the game Silent Hill. Painted with acrylic paint.
(This miiiight get moved to the Brigadoon since it isn't technically about dolls, but I still love hearing about this kind of thing!) My avatar is my "project doll", Ilya! I'm just so proud about how he came out, and DZ Carter is my favorite sculpt ever. I'll probably keep changing the avatar as he evolves and gets closer to being finished; he still needs his correct wig and eyes. (@Saapas I love your avatar! Pyramid Head is so cool, and that painting looks awesome!)
It's not a big story :P I'm just shipping Akashi Seijuro and Kuroko Tetsuya from Kuroko no Basuke. And I found adorable like Tetsuya holds a dakimakura with Akashi's picture
Mine is just a picture of my first full doll (the real first is still a floating head) with my first faceup
My avatar is a photo I shot of Tyler (Iplehouse nYID Oscar) who is my favourite doll. He's wearing a hat and scarf I knitted for him. I was just really pleased with this picture, so I decided to crop it and make it into an avatar. It's not much of a "story" but anyway, there it is. This is the original photo: Tyler's Winter Portrait by Sapphire, on Flickr
Grey Kestrel and Red Cardinal, on the rooftop of the little brownstone that I always called theirs in text and roleplay... Here's a larger screenshot from the same set. Kestrel and Cardinal were my favorite characters from a sadly now-defunct MMO called City of Heroes... Kes was a rogue dual-blade Stalker (read: Stealth-based burst-damage DPS/melee character... basically an assassin story-wise) from Saint Martial on the "red side" of the City and Cardinal was her Mu Adept companion. I spent a lot of time playing Kes. She was pretty much my "main" for the last few years of the game's life, and was the one character that people in-game most associated with me. I got pretty attached to both her and her NPC side-kick. When the game was shut down, I decided to add resin versions of the pair to my crew (Both as kids/chibis and adults-)... So, while the avatar itself *isn't* of the Kestrel and Cardinal dolls, it's still at least related to them.
The man shown is an early version of "Milton", my private eye character currently housed in my Souldoll Vito Azrael. You can see the full image here: Between Hours
Mine isn't a doll, though I do get asked if he is every now and then! That's Aki from the jrock band SID, from my favorite photoshoot of theirs (and a quite old one now, too - I think I've had the avatar since I signed up for DOA!)
Mine is my parent's cat, Watson. She was hit by a car, and when we found her, the vet wired her back together. She still lays kind of strange--a sploot, like a Corgi, but with her head resting on the ground in front of her. She also steals cylindrical objects--pens, pencils, paintbrushes, makeup brushes, eyebrow pencils, lipstick, chapstick, chopsticks, round brushes, dowel rods, knitting needles, crochet hooks, sticks from the yard, baseball bats, fishing rods, etc.--then they go to her hoard somewhere inside the house and are gone forever until you go looking for them. When you find her hoard, she moves everything somewhere else. Inexplicably, it's the two, yard-long sticks from the front yard that she likes to pull around the house in her teeth--she's tried to bring them into bed with my dad before. She's also figured out the cadence in human speech and chats with my parents frequently by meowing to their questions.
mine is of my character Catalyst! While my username isn't 100% related to their name, they did play a part in me choosing it. Cata also looks a bit like me so.... they fit well enough heh. For a second I forgot what avatar I had here lol. My other common one is of my boy Owen, and I was excited because he's almost relevant to the topic - he looks a lot like Dollzone's Snow.
I change mine frequently but currently it's of Mr. E (Aimerai The Enfield Horror), Chara Cole (Loongsoul Qiqi), Raphael (AoD event turtle), Miss Wanda Eerie (IslandDoll Ghost #3) and Oreo (Sakura and Paper Xiao CangCang) because they're cute fun little BJDs/resin pets from BJD companies who are off topic because of a lack of enough joints. It's my way of including them even though I can't include them in other ways on the forum.
my avatar is pretty self explanatory, a mushroom from Mario, i always loved the games. my old avatar was a heavily edited photo of my own face, but i stopped using it cuz i thought it might be putting people off, either because it's hard to tell what it is or it was too weird.
Mine's me at an old local con I used to frequent, it was pretty last minute so instead of cosplaying, I just threw on a few things I had laying around. I felt really good about myself and it was the last time I got to go to that con so it feels a bit weirdly special, in a weird vain way
My avatar is my beloved Angel of Dream SD girl Eiko made this picture on a german anime and manga convention ^^
Oooh hah, let me tell you! It is quite a story! C:< So, it started as this, sort of a celebration for being accepted as staff on DoA (getting my wings of some sort?): Then I joked around and wanted that funny smiley face on there so it got turned into this: Pokemon Sun and Moon was released and I nearly died when I saw pyukumuku and heard the cry for it. I got one on my team named Gurka(means cucumber in Swedish) so I added her: Later I decided she needed to be covered in rainbow, have a unicorn horn and use magic, as per the image in my signature. So I just updated the avatar with it to match: I love how it has evolved, yet is basically still the same since almost a year :3 Bonus! For halloween I made a special one ~ And I had this one for a while because I just love the smiley that does that expression!
I have an extremely unhealthy obsession with Devil May Cry. Mostly Devil May Cry 4 Nero. But I do love DMC more then most games. It's probably my favorite game next to Digital Devil Saga.
My current avatar is my beloved otaku boi, Louis, with an alpaka plushie that a friend of mine accidentally stole for me... (I SWEAR WE FIGURED IT OUT AT HOME.) It's my favorite photo of Louis, he's just being himself soo much. :'D Also I frekin love your avatars. All of them. :'D What a progress.
The current avatar is a character I cosplay, Shu Itsuki from Ensemble Stars. He actually has a doll (she's ambiguously described as 'antique' but looks an awful lot like a BJD to me) that he carries with him everywhere as a sort of security blanket, so he felt like an appropriate choice.
It's a sepia-toned shot of a SD16 Yukinojou's hand. I no longer own the doll but he had such lovely hands.
Mine has changed a couple times over the years... but right now it's Newt Geiszler from Pacific Rim. I'm... kind of obsessed with the movie, ever since I got the DVD on sale at Target on a good friend's recommendation (turns out said friend knows EXACTLY what I like). And of all the screenshots I'd saved to my computer (almost entirely of the two scientists, because I identified with them both the most out of the whole ensemble), this one worked the best as an avatar. (also I kind of want to do fan dolls of at least Newt and Hermann but probably also Mako?)
My avatar is the same avatar I made up for my Tumblr! Made to look a bit like me I guess? At least in terms of the blonde hair and glasses
There's really no real story behind mine. I started out using various pics of my first doll, Alex as my av and I would change it as he changed. Well for a while I had no good pictures of him, so I started using my art of him instead. I had changed it a few times and then I used this one The Borders of Destiny (and literally as I was linking that picture the song I titled it after came on D: ). I used it for a while and started to identify with the confused expression....so I never changed it. I use the same one pretty much everywhere now. Alex and I look NOTHING alike but I feel like that drawing is me now XD
Mine has changed a few times but right now it's my Grey Warden from Dragon Age: Origins, Iah Surana, making his patented "I'm pretty sure what you just said is STUPID" face. I like a lot of games, but Origins is probably one of my favorites, and Iah is my favorite warden.
My avatar is Darius, my Soom Ender. He's not my first, and not my last, but he is one of the dolls I could never part with. I love him to pieces I've tried setting my other dolls as my avatar, but it just doesn't feel right if Darius isn't there. Here's the larger image of the picture I took of him: DJ by AmberLeighsBJDs, on Flickr
Mine is a picture of Smoky Quartz from Steven Universe that was drawn by my partner! It was sort of an art trade, we both drew each other's Skype icons of characters we love and identify with, and I decided to use it here as well (with her permission, of course).
Mine is currently 2 out of 7 of my healers (these two are archbishops, Aisuru & Soltari Priest) with a poring from my favorite game, Ragnarok Online! I plan to have a couple of my dolls cosplay RO characters some day (most of my OCs have 'jobs' from RO)
My avatar is of Felix, my Doll Love Sweet Hugh. His character is very dear to my heart. Here is the full photo:
Good question. Mine is a painting that came up in a google image search of La Belle Dame Sans Merci, a Keats poem. For some reason I thought it was the Dame herself, but it turns out to be an unrelated portrait by Edward Robert Hughes. I'm a bit tempted now to switch to Frank Dicksee's painting, which is actually based on the poem, but I like the nonchalant attitude of my current icon. She's not as creepy!
I feel like mine used to be one of my dolls, but I've since switched it out for this one. It's my Etsy shop logo! The design is based on a Hebridean sheep, a breed that frequently sports four horns- two curled and two pointing forward or back. The logo is a very, very simplified skull with one horn broken. There are three reasons I chose it: one, Hebrideans are black sheep, and that's my name everywhere in the doll community. Two, what I make for my shop is primarily horns and similar items, so something with four of them seemed to fit. Three, my hobby outside of bjds is collecting bones (hence the skull). As for why one horn is broken, that's something of a signature for me, I guess. Before bjds, my art was mostly geared toward sculptures and masks of animals and monsters, and they'd all have a broken horn, antler, or tusk. When I eventually finish my F&J Yabi, my Hebridean sheep boy, he will also have the broken horn.
When I first joined DOA in 2010 I was logging in via my work computer, and since the only personal photo I had on it was this screenshot of my Dragon Age: Origins warden, that's what I used. I meant it to be a placeholder and figured I'd replace it with a doll photo in a day or two, but I never bothered. Seven years later, I'm so used to seeing it next to my posts that it would feel strange to change at this point.
I drew mine in Adobe illustrator. I've been too lazy to make a new one. I don't even know how long I've had it there lol!
I go through a lot of avatars hahahaaaa. My current obsession is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and my favorite stands are Killer Queen and Stray Cat. This is a cute shot of Stray Cat from the Part 4 anime.
For many (five) years my avatar was an illustration by Ivan Bilibin, who's still one of my favourite 20th century artists. But I wanted to give my whole account a bit of an aesthetic clean up, so instead I went with a shot from one of my favourite manga, since I think the black lines and blue-white are really pretty together. So my icon is of Lindel from Ancient Magus Bride by Kore Yamazaki.
My avatar is a random photo I found on the internet when I searched 'cartoon papaya' or something along those lines, it's based on my username (as I'm sure everyone's noticed) which I use for everything. People first started calling me Maya Papaya when in reception in primary school when we were learning about rhymes
When I joined doa I had just realized that the necklace in my avatar was lost. So I felt a bit nostalgic and had to have it haha. I also like the photo ^^
Mine is me in the crosswalk of my future university. It's also pride month and I had to celebrate that with a rainbow, cause I'm that gay.
Mine is one of my doll chars, Jareth, recreated in the mmorpg Tera Online. He's a bunny boy elin, and you can close the eyes so they look "blind," which matches his doll sculpt and backstory. A better pic of him in-game: Ninja Jareth (Tera Elin) Desktop And his dolly page: t!rsd3n'z BJD fam!ly
It's my Ai Doll Sanbitalia Vivian. This was during one of her photoshoots in her little coffin bed. (She lives in a gothic themed book house, yet she's a total girly girl)
I tend to switch mine out. At the moment of this posting, it's a picture of my Trinity Lumie, Victoria.
Mine is my first BJD love, DOD Shall. In my heart she is my first doll, after buying other smaller dolls and parts that I was less interested in because I didn't have to courage to go for such a large doll as an SD. Her sculpt is what made me fall in love with BJDs, after I saw her promo pic in someone's avatar on DeviantArt. I thought about her for years before finally feeling brave enough to get into BJDs. Now she is my own avatar. We've come full circle
Mine is by Custom House , bebe ai , my most cherish babies. Love the face sculpt and body. No other companies making them like this, tiny size fat chubby baby. Also wishing Custom House (now taken over by Luts) will re release them again if possible with lots of new face sculpt ..Luts are you listening
Mine is the lead character Amalthea from the Last Unicorn animation, it was my favourite cartoon as a child, and when I first joined internet land in the early 2000s I started using variations of it as my username I started using my real name when social media became mainstream (FB, Twitter etc), but I keep Amalthea for hobby related profiles, and ebay.
Selfie of me in a street that looked like the Parents pigging out scene in spirited away lol I like spirited away, it's just a selfie
