Long Knitted Stocking Cap for a 3.5” - 4” diameter doll head

Pictured is Fairyland’s 3.5” tall RealPuki and 4.5” tall PukiPuki.

U.S. #00 knitting needles and #8 perle/pearl cotton thread or craft thread

Gauge: 14 sts/inch 18 rows/inch - To save time, take time to check your gauge before starting.

Cast on 46 sts, leaving a long tail for sewing seam later. Starting on the front side, knit 8 rows. Purl 1 row. Work in stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row) until entire piece measures 1 inch, ending with a purl row.
Begin decreases: K5, decr in next st, k across to last 7 sts, decr in next st, k5. Purl 1 row. Repeat these 2 rows until there are 12 sts, ending with a purl row.
Next row: k4, work decr twice, k4. Purl next row. Continue decreasing 2 sts in middle of work each k row and purling wrong side row until there are 4 sts left, ending with a purl row.
At this point, you can bind off the remaining sts, or work a length of I-cord to finish cap.
Leave a length of yarn/thread to sew on a jingle bell or other embellishment.
Block cap. Sew seam. Attach embellishment. Weave in ends.

Have fun! Consider changing this basic pattern to make it your own unique style!
