Apparently, the Chinese government recently released an edict/decree/declaration/law saying that male dolls may have one tintin (male genitals) part only, which - um, exceptionally specific, but OK. I know we've seen dealers announce the tintin restriction. Instagram user dolleditbyap recently received her Telesthesia and Dragon boy, and it looks like Chinese customs was harsh on her doll. It's not her first T&D boy by a long shot, and she states that it didn't seem to be a T&D or Alice's Collections (dealer) issue. This was a shipping issue. I happen to love T&D boys, and now I'm worried. Has anyone received a male doll since this new, erm, law came out? Do you think it's still safe to buy male doll bodies from China? Should we ask dealers/doll makers to omit the tintin parts?
Gosh, I feel so sorry for that collector. That is so unlucky I think it depends very much on the company shipping the doll and how they package the doll. I recently had a boy from Wonderland Dolls arrive from China, and whilst he had a magnetic leaf attached to his groin, he came with his male genitalia part in a plastic bag in the box!
The way I understand it (from the wonderful folks at Legend Doll) is that a number of companies (both big and small) are trying to stay on the safe side of the law by not providing extra male appendages. The one that is molded into the doll body is OK to stay. But they will no longer provide exchangeable male parts. You don't have tell them anything. They just won't offer these parts as a default. However, there are companies that did not follow along. I had ordered a 1/4 body from Charm Doll which is supposed to include his extra eggplants. I haven't received him yet, but he was advertised after the law had passed and Erica was sure that he does come with his extra baggie. I thought it was strange, since Charm's sister company, Loongsoul, is on the list of companies that are complying with the "no fun" law. But according to Charm's Chinese site and Erica's check, he is really supposed to arrive intact. I'll be sure to let you know if he did when I receive him! Extra fun bits are a huge selling point for Chinese companies. I don't think any other countries have companies that offer them. I am dreaming of indie companies that will sell resin-printed twig-n-berries so they can be attached to company bodies. As long as these companies are not located in China, they will not have to fall under this purity law. That might be the answer to skirt around this edict. I mean, a doll parent can dream, right?
I emailed Alice's Collections, and A said that she doesn't know if there's anything that can be done. Sigh...
I would also like to know, since I asked Alice about Loongsoul when this first started and they told me there wouldn't be any parts going forward. I've seen a lot of Chinese companies modifying their dolls to not have any sculpting at all, which is an instant no-buy from me since I want my dolls to be "accurate" (personally). I ordered from LS RIGHT before the law, which means he got shipped after it happened, and he still had his extra bits, but I've been too nervous to since. I'm happy to know some companies are putting on magnetic leaves instead of sculpting it away entirely.
I ordered a Dollzone slim 75 boy before the genital ban and he arrived with his genital option parts (l wouldn't recommend ordering from Dollzone at the moment for different reasons). My Granado Fortis arrived with strung genitals – I believe Granado still provide genital parts. Ringdoll might also be in a similar position but I can't be certain. As other users have said, dollmakers like Loongsoul and T&D have been affected by this. The ban also seems to have made various Chinese dollmakers like Dream Valley, Loongsoul and South Korean dollmakers like Luts and Kissely sculpt new bodies with completely featureless "Ken doll" groins. There's more info in this thread: /threads/no-more-swappable-genitals-on-chinese-bjds.888327/
Girl dolls too. I think the new Dream Valley girl body for Tooth is featureless. I apologize for doomsaying, but what I predict will happen is that there will be further attempts to skirt this selective ban, which will inevitably trigger heavier-handed blanket censorship (= everyone gets Barbie bodies). Detailed anatomy on dolls, for the sake of integrity and nothing else, is a net negative: it creates a grey area to exploit and many complications, so I say it will be gone in a couple years tops.
@lutke I genuinely hope you are wrong and can only console myself by reminding myself I'm in the no-buy club
@Arucane and @Yumeiro My Rock fullset took the better part of 12 months and the quality was disappointing. From talking to other hobbyists and looking at XHS and Taobao, it seems Dollzone have no logical order for what orders get made first, which makes it frustrating when they launch 5+ new dolls while you're still waiting for yours. I doubt I would have had my doll within 12 months unless I had kept checking in with Alice's Collections for updates from Dollzone. In terms of the quality issues, the faceup had a pale fleshy colour in the mouth that gave the doll a "mouthbreather" look. The fullset came with "random eyes" that were too high-domed to fit in the eyewells and had noticeably uneven pupils. The wig was subpar and the fullset outfit was very low quality – I'd consider it playline quality rather than part of a collectible doll for adults I'd payed $940 USD for. I felt the quality did not at all justify the price. The doll body itself was fine, but I have no intention to buy from Dollzone again. If you have your heart set on buying from Dollzone, I would highly recommend going through a dealer so they can check in on your order and hold Dollzone to their deadlines. In terms of relevance to this thread, if you order the Slim 75, it now comes with only a magnetic starfish over the groin instead of any genital part. Even the default "unexcited" genital part is too large to be worn with any outfit as it will noticeably protrude out from the body, ironically making the doll look "excited".
Dollzone's bodies are fine in quality, if notoriously tightly strung, but I would not recommend ordering a fullset at all. I don't mean to bash Dollzone, but I feel it's important to share your honest experiences as a customer so everyone can be better informed. If I'd known what I was going to receive for the price I payed, I wouldn't have ordered the doll.
Yeah, Dollzone has been known to have low quality faceups, for a long time. (I don't recall whether accessories where bad too, or hit and miss) Shame they haven't gotten better... Especially considering how nice looking their recent dolls have been. But thanks @castironteapot for clarifying what you where referring to.
I actually did get a T&D boy since the law came out. But not sure how helpful I am as it was near the start of the new law. I got my Dragon Boy through Alice's and he did come with all of his extra parts. I had contacted Alice's over the new law, and was told my doll was safe and would come with his parts. I got my doll in August of last year. So, it's been a few months.
The genital ban is because there are many silicon love dolls using the term BJD in their titles/sales. The law was related to these dolls but many BJD makers got worried it would effect them so to be on the safe side they started to remove it. Loong Soul actually still does make these extra genital parts. I bought a Long Soul doll this month, and my friend in China told me that they made a second taobao store just to sell them. In my order through Space Studio I bought them. Ring Doll still makes the basic non-exited part of their dolls. As my Frankenstein came with his.
I will! I just ordered him in January and he is payed off now. But I suspect it will still be a 6 month wait for him even though it is a blank dolls. Some doll companies do still sell these parts. Like AMan doll for their 77cm body. I am a person who refuses to buy bodies unless they are anatomically correct, so I really have to hunt down info because it is a major deal breaker for me. (I don't need all the erect parts, but the basic part is fine enough).
New I'm back with updates! Remember I mentioned that I have a 1/4 boy body from Charm Doll coming in that was ordered after the genital ban? Well, he's finally here! Where to start... Well, his sculp shows him as almost "Ken doll" like. The groin area is smooth on first inspection. But there's a implanted magnet. And he came with one external flaccid male member. It's attached by magnet. But this is only male member that came with him. I checked the box and there was nothing else. (It's late. I'll check again tomorrow since his poor body part was found outside of the usual baggie. The rest of him might be somewhere else?) https://photos.app.goo.gl/BWZi4WPoiDTVPEoq5 https://photos.app.goo.gl/NPBkghQZ4X37ev3y8 Honestly, I am a little relieved but also a little disappointed. I guess I was expecting a little more. But I am OK with what I've got. My boy's not a Ken doll. And that's (k)enough.
New Curious that there was a magnet in there...I just assumed dollmakers were fully Kenning their bodies without any way to attach genitals. Hopefully it's a strong magnet as I know some bodies have a peg as a well as magnet to stop stray body parts escaping down pants legs. Thanks for sharing the info!
New Being a bit late to the news here. Generally speaking this whole deal with more or less Ken-ifying the male dolls does bother me quite a bit and is a deal breaker (just like it would if all the gender specific lady bits were removed from the female dolls). While I think it's better than nothing to have a magnetically attached man-bit I personally really would prefer that the man-bits were part of the sculpt if optional happy-looking-bits are no longer being made (though I can understand and of course respect why there would be cases when it is preferable to be able to replace it with a uh less "defined" shape for underwear or really tight pants). I have two male dolls ordered recently and I really, really hope the information I got is correct and that they will have the regular bit. Also, I suppose this deal means I will never get the opportunity to use the optional bits as fridge magnets to see if anyone notices... drats
