I want to start a photo-story with my dolls. I have the general idea and characters, and the first plot of a story arch. What I'm having trouble with is...were should i post this story? I have a deviant art account, but I haven't seen that many photo-stories on there. Also i have other art on my account not just my doll photos, or doll related things. I was thinking of getting a free blog for this, but i also want my photo-story to be easily found in search engines, and maybe have some comments so i know people are finding the story and enjoying it, or hating it, or whatever critique they would like to give. Basically I'd like to have a 'how to start a BJD photo-story and have it be noticed' guide. What have you done to promote your story, do you think it's appropriate to post photo-stories on websites like Deviant art? Or should the project have it's own little area?
I'm kinda half-sure this isn't a response you might be looking for, but I'll just toss in my two cents anyway. To me the best place to put up a photostory is really right here on DoA, in the Photostories subforum. I know one con is that not everyone has a DoA account. But imo dA isn't much for photostories unless you want to join up all your pictures together into one really long one cuz people don't want to have to keep clicking through pictures; Flickr's more or less ditto with dA; and putting it on a blog where there isn't much BJD activity (LJ for example, maybe unless you x-post it to some dollie community) will require you to pimp out your photostory in a place where there is much BJD activity and you'll eventually have to come back here to do that, because where else can you find a larger community of dollie enthusiasts? XD; If one's photostory isn't being noticed, top reasons ranking for that are most likely to be the photography or the plot, or even the background or how the dolls are being posed, etc etc. People are different and have their own turnoffs to different things, but due to the policies set by the mods for DoA and just plain human courtesy they're of course not going to say anything unless you ask in big bold red letters for crit. Another plus to post it here is that everyone and anyone actually has a chance to make their photostories well-known. Off the top of my head, take mendokusai's series for example. She makes good use of lighting and editing so that her pictures aren't obscured or show anything dodgy like a messy background for example, and that's the first step to bringing the readers in. Adding to that is how her way of posing dolls is almost always spot-on so that her characters actually look real, as well as witty and natural conversation like how one would encounter IRL, so good directing always enhances good plot tenfold. To top it off, mendo updates pretty regularly so that people don't forget her stuff and are kept interested. /shameless pimpage FTW
Can you give me a link to her photo-story, so that i may look at it and get some ideas. i didn't think of putting it here because i always thought that forums are more just for discussion, not this kind of thing. But if you're allowed to do that here then that's a smart solution. Do you know if there are alot of photostories on this site? I really want to make something good, and will put a lot of work into it but i can't improve if no one tells me how to improve, that's why comments are so important to me. You can't fix something if you don't know something is wrong.
just trying to figure out how to post images, and i dind't want to post it on the gallery if it didn't show up.
Images are fairly easy. ^^ You need to upload them to a hosting site like photobucket or flickr. Then you just copy/paste the location of the picture liek this: [ img ] your image url here [ /img] and you're set. I know photobucket is fancy and does it for you. For more info, go here: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?175179-FAQ-How-do-I-post-pictures-and-links I think the photo limit on DoA is 12(?) pictures to each post. If you have over twelve, start another post below your main topic post. ^^ Hope that helps you~
Pupe I think the small box thing means your link is broken^^ Try checking your photos' URL again in the tag
hey heres some helpful links and info for you guys Before posting, please use the Search to make sure that your question has not been answered already. We encourage members to bump old threads rather than starting duplicates. how to post pictures http://www.denofangels.com/forums/faq.php?faq=techhelp#faq_picandlinks where to put a photostory? in the Photostory section http://www.denofangels.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?37-Gallery-Photostories you kind of have 2 options for your pictures, one is the Photostory section and thats for your pictures with a story or dialog for the pictures or you can post in the gallery of just pictures, gallery is here http://www.denofangels.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?16-Gallery! Please please remember there are rules for each section they are listed as a sticky (meaning they will alway be at the top of each section) Live Journal is a good free blog if you are interested, but if you are wanting the BJD community to see your pictures and read your stories I would suggest starting here. as far as promoting your photostories you can post a story and then bump( posting simply to make it apear in the top ) once a day, that is not the same as commenting on other peoples comments. if you have not already check out the Forum FAQ its at the very top of ever page under the DARK BLUE line or here http://www.denofangels.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?14-Forum-FAQs hopefully that was helpful for you
thanks everyone i did go through the FAQ cause i didn't want to be a noob and just wine, lol, but i asked one of the senior members and they helped me. Stupid me was posting the wrong link, lol, i didn't know there was a specific link for sharing photos I've never used photobucket before, but know i know what i'm doing and once i have everything in order i'll start posting my story. So thanks everyone!
I tend to post photostories in the various photostory sections of the BJD forums I am a member of... but I also put the pictures (with story content) on Flickr and on my BJD Photostory blog as well. I also hope to start turning them into videos for my youtube channel.
