Wigs Sponge Twists Wig Q

One of my OCs has sponge twists or sponge curls, and I don't know if that's possible with a traditional wig, so I was considering sculpting one from air dry clay and then flocking it. Has anyone tried anything like that? Can you think of any pros or cons? Or better ways to go about it? Here is what sponge curls look like:

 

That might work, but I am unsure of how to get the twist effect for the curls.

 

@cthulu, that's something I hadn't considered. It might work. I saw a kind of dark mesh wig cap that I might be able to crochet into.

@Swampruler I looked up Wensleydale locks, and it looks like those could be a possibility as well!
