Specific Company Souldoll Soulkid New Girl Body (1/4)

May 30, 2022

    1. Calling all dolls with the new double 1/4 girl body by Souldoll! This body was originally announced in late 2017, and was later re-released to fix issues with the original design and to extend mobility and posability. Either of these versions are acceptable, as they are aesthetically more or less the same.

I want to see your dolls with this body! What poses can they hold? What clothes fit them? What shoes fit them? How well do they photograph?

Please only post dolls with the new body (not the N.L. body or any older 1/4 girl bodies by Souldoll). Bonus points if the body has the small bust option, and bonus points for any SoulDoll Junos. :D

      See my flickr for more.

Please keep in mind that I'm new to the hobby and she's my first doll, so I don't really have a good frame of reference. Also, it's possibly going to sound like I'm being super critical, but I don't mean to be. It's just that I have to describe the things she can't do with words, while the things she can do you can mostly see in the pictures.

      Posing:

The poses she adopts naturally are really very beautiful. Her ranges of motion have clearly been carefully engineered and you have to work pretty hard to make her look wonky. Almost any pose I've imagined so far she's been able to take on without much work on my part.

Her hips are designed so that when she sits down, the ball part of the upper thigh pops partially out of the socket. The photo above shows a fairly extreme example of this because she's sitting cross-legged. You can see the ball parts of the thighs are way out in front of where her crotch is. And maybe I'm way off-base, but it doesn't look to me like this is common, or at least not universal. I see a lot of peanut-shaped upper thighs that seem to rotate inside the hip socket. As you can see from the photos, it's not necessarily a problem. She has great flexibility and doesn't have problems balancing while sitting, but sometimes it looks a little weird, and if she's standing up and begins to lean forward she loses rigidity in that joint, so she really needs something to lean on with her arms.

Her arms are designed so that she can't cross her arms over her chest super easily. Her elbows face directly forward and the shoulders don't allow for a lot of motion along that axis. Not that she can't do it... as you'll see from my photos, she can. It's just tricky for her and takes a lot of fiddling. I'm thinking of trying wiring or sueding to see if that makes it easier.

Finally, her ankles are pretty clearly the weak point in her standing design. It's nothing major... an extra three seconds adjusting them each time you get her into a new standing position, but when you're also struggling to get everything else right (you know... you adjust the hairline which musses the hair so you brush the hair which tilts her head so you fix her head which moves the hairline again...) it can feel like a bit of a hassle.

      Clothes:

I'm going to be bad at this because I haven't learned all the sizing lingo yet, but basically the only clothes I've ordered in 1/4 or MSD that I've had problems with are pants that aren't big enough for her hips. As you can see, her white shorts fit great, but I got some denim shorts and jeans that won't go on. The bottom of the bathing suit in the photo above is stretched to its limit. I'm contemplating whether I have the skills to let it out a bit.

Tops can sometimes be a bit too big, probably in large part because I got the small bust for her as you mentioned, but even with my limited sewing skills, that's been pretty easy to overcome.

Again, there's probably a short-hand for shoe sizes that maybe someone else can provide, but 5.5-5.8cm inside length and 2-2.3cm inside width seems to encompass about 20-25% of 1/4 MSD size shoes for girls. This limits your options a bit but I've found almost everything I've wanted with a bit of scouring. (Common though they are, I've found properly sized converse and ugg boots the most elusive).

      Photography:

I think the answer to this question is "yes." :whee: I have used science to confirm that I can literally take pictures of her all day long and be very happy.

      Ultimate verdict:

NGL, I experienced a certain amount of jealousy looking at what @scripple has been able to achieve with wired Bimong bodes. But it's going to be a while before I feel okay spending that kind of money on her again and I have a bunch of stuff I'm waiting on from Alice's and Legenddoll anyway and frankly I'm pretty happy as is.

      Hope that helps <3

Edit: I just realized I have one photo that really shows the hip thing I'm talking about:

    4. @Errantry Wow, thank you so much for this wonderful and detailed response! I really appreciate it. Your photos are so fun to look through. Seeing how beautifully and naturally your Sophie poses has really affirmed my decision to buy a Juno with this body. One of the only downsides will be trying to find pants that fit her hips and thighs! It's one of the body's best features, but looks to be difficult to shop for. Let me know if you ever find some good jeans that fit her!

Also, about your search for well-fitting and scaled-down Converse sneakers: SK Couture/SK Dollhouse may be what you're looking for! They have a line of Converse-style high-top sneakers (which look incredibly detailed and realistic) in multiple doll sizes, including MSD. The MSD size has an inner length of 6.5 cm and inner width of 2.7 cm. I know that seems a bit big, but because the overall construction is so realistic (compared to many other bulky and chunky sneakers I've seen that are meant for MSDs), I still think they will look good. Plus, I know my human shoes definitely have some wiggle room, so that fact + allowing room for a pair of socks = hopefully they'll fit well!

    5. @JL_The_Lion It really is a wonderful upgrade! I've also been eyeing the hand options they have for this body, and they're beautiful as well!

    6. @Mori Carter YVW! I've gotten her a pair of overalls (they're on this listing with some other stuff) that fit well. The little buckles are obscenely cute in person. Will post some pics soon. I also ordered some custom sized jeans from Alice's but I don't have them in hand yet because of COVID.

And thank you for the shoe advice! I was actually asking about that here and got some other leads that I have yet to follow up on.

Best of luck with your Juno. They certainly look gorgeous in the company photos. I hope the wait doesn't kill you.;)

    7. I got my custom ED-line jeans from Alice's and custom converse from Nata.ko, so I figured I'd post some pics...

As you can see, the jeans go on, which feels like a minor miracle, but they're on the short side, especially when she sits down. What do you think? Does this look like a girl who accidentally put her jeans through the dryer, or does it work?

The shoes are awesome and fit perfectly. Can't recommend Nata.ko enough.

    8. @Errantry The jeans look phenomenal! I don't think they look strange at all, they look quite on-trend. A lot of women's jeans these days are cropped like that, it seems to be one of the popular styles now. And with those adorable shoes? Perfect.
