Souldoll Discussion

This is where I am torn because I have several Souldolls from 10 years ago and a few from a few years ago. The resin is going to have mellowed, regardless of whether or not it was exposed to sunlight. Over time the red coloring fades. However, it is very possible that it is a close match, some of my 10+ year old dolls are -very- close to new resin, to the point they are wearing new hands and I can't tell the difference unless I stare REALLY close (can't photograph it to save my life). My newer dolls always look "pinker" when I first get them but after a few months or so they do a natural mellowing (even locked in a cool closet in the dark in their boxes, it is a natural process) and are just slightly less pink. This matches most of my older dolls (I do have a very very old girl who is a couple of shades more mellow, but not really yellowed...just not as pink).

My worry would be that they discontinued the Souldoll Double Line years ago so you'd have to look at measurements and see if any of their other lines would work or look elsewhere.

 

Hmmm... I'll weigh in since I've got some old Souldoll's released in 2007 (so 15 years old vs. 10 yrs.) on the old original Double body (I think it premiered with Osu?). And I think their Normal skin has changed over the years. My new Souldoll Jio that I received 1 year ago is much more lighter/pink color vs. my older Souldoll's fleshy normal skin. I have a Jinwoo/Zii that I can try to snapshot against my Normal skin Jio if that helps you.

My Jinwoo and Zii are still a lovely color, but just not as light as their newer Normal skin. Although if it's just hands...I'm sure you can blush them a bit to match. Although I have to agree with errinreynolds on the hybrid factor. The only SD lines they have now are Zenith and they are much larger than the old double lines so the hands might not fit/look strange on the smaller framed body.

I see! I'll get you a snapshot so you can see the different and I'll try to get the hands side by side for size reference. I'll need to find the box my Jio is hiding in (moved a few months ago) but I'll update in here with a picture.

 

I would love to see some pictures of peoples' old discontinued Souldolls, I am a big fan but I haven't seen anyone post photoshoots with them in like tennnnn years?

As for new hands - maybe look into Dollmore for resin match? My Dollmores and my Souldolls are all a bit older meanwhile, but it used to be a close match. Can't speak for recent dolls, though.
I really dislike it if hands are disproportionate small, so I understand.

 

@Astro : I agree, I would love if all the Souldoll lines were in one thread. The Tera Zenith thread is dead since they discontinued the line, and the poor Doubles are long forgotten too for the same reason. I guess we'll have to see if this eventually gets combined with another thread~

Until then, I did some digging. My poor Jinwoo is hiding for me, so I was only able to take pics with my Zii. Moving 50+ dolls is such a hassle... unpacking/finding them is even harder lol. I will preface that I think my Zii is definitely more yellow than my Jinwoo. My Zii has passed through 3 owners so I'm not sure how well he's avoided the sun, but I will say his "fleshy" color is similar to my Jinwoo, and Souldoll's new normal is definitely lighter and on the pinker side. With that being said, if your Jinwoo has seen little sun and is still light and pinky, likely he may match the newer Souldoll's more closely. Hope these help you!

Since @Dybbuk wasn't too sure about their Zii's sunbathing habits in his doubtlessly interesting past life(s) , I can also add that I have a Souldoll Double girl from 2007, a Zenith girl from 2014, Zenith boy from 2017 and a Zenith head from 2021. I might also add that all of my dolls live in a light-proof Ikea wardrobe and only leave it when they are fiddled with.
The Double girl had a different normal colour from all my Zenith dolls right from the start. She is nowhere near the Zenith resin colours. And even the Zenith from 2014 has visibly mellowed compared to the new Zenith head from 2021, although it is just a partial loss of red pigment, it does not look yellowed as such (or they make the dolls way pinker in recent years). I would not even have noticed this but in direct comparison it is visible.

So unless you wish to blush/ dye the hands, I don't think recent Souldoll will be a good choice, and then there's the fact that there is no 60cm doll line anymore at Souldoll, and the Zenith hands are a lot bigger than the Double's. My Zenith boy is the only one of my dolls I constantly have to take the hands off of to dress him. Every. single. time.^^

 

@Astro : Glad to help! I'm trying to recall what heads I used to Hybrid and share on this body and I remember old NS Sooms used to match fairly well. Although I dont know how hard it is to locate an old pair of hands like that. Best of luck finding a replacement pair. Blushing or dying shouldn't be too difficult.

(You can put the double heads onto the Zenith body--- Souldoll's newer Zenith heads are around the same size or smaller than the Doubles.)

I have a older girl from 2007 and newer Souldolls from 2015 to 2020--- the heads from the past 5 years match pretty nicely with a somewhat pinkish tint to them while my 2007 Double has definitely mellowed and has no red left in her skin tone. If I can get some good sunlight I'll take a pic of the color shift.

 

Really hoping this thread can just capture all Souldoll lines in the future because our poor Double/Tera-Zenith threads seem to be quite dead~

I recently acquired a Souldoll Double Lee Jun Ki off of YJ! and very excited for him to join my Park Gi Gup (the name of the original sculptor) trio. I now have Jinwoo, Zii and LJK!!! And it came to my surprise, I really believe that Zii and Lee Jun Ki are in fact the same mold. I am working on wiping my LJK, and will take pictures next to my Zii, but one thing I noticed... there is a slight asymmetry to Zii's upper left side of his lip. When I got my LJK, I noticed the very same asymmetry. I put them side-by-side, nose to nose, chin to chin and each time their features line up nearly identically.

For any collectors who were around back in '08-ish when the Zii doll was pulled unexpectedly from the Souldoll website, I believe it has everything to do with the fact that the mold was going to be sold as limited editions of LJK, and didn't want to end up in legal trouble for reproducing the mold outside of the contract Lee Jun Ki's management company was creating.

It still feels really cool to own the rare "Zii" boy! I am loving the idea of twin boys~ But wanted to share this information because I found it interesting~

@Mu Shu Aah! Now that you say their names, I remember their sales pages more clearly. I really love and miss Souldoll Double Star. She's on my wishlist of old dolly finds. When you take new pics of your girls, I hope you'll share them here!

 

I didn't have any money when Star was released and when I finally was stable financially she had already been discontinued. Took me years but I finally got her second hand about 2 years ago. Now if could only get Hye, Queena and Phillipa and there was another boy named Pablo? or something like that.

 

@Mu Shu : So happy to hear that for you! Makes me feel it's possible to find some of those older dollies too after discontinuation.

*coughs* actually there is a Queena up for grabs currently in the MP. A very reasonable asking price as well~ I won't place the link here because I don't think we can link MP sales, but wanted to give you the heads up in case you can afford a new dolly.

Paolo was his name! This guy right? He was gorgeous too. He was also only offered a short while. I'm in search of a few old boys too since boys are more my dolls weakness~ Osu, Soo-Hyun and Ize are at the top of my list. But I missed out on I-so as well~

 

Oh, I've only just noticed this thread! I'd also love for there to be just one Souldoll thread for all their 60cm and up size dolls because yeah, a few of the existing Souldoll discussions are totally dead.

May I add a Zenith girl to the thread? I finally made her profile on here so I was looking through her pictures yesterday.


She's a Karin on the old Zenith Shiva body. She's got 4 arms right now, but since she came with another set I'd like to mod her to have 6 arms (which Yenna did and it looks awesome). I haven't taken many photos of her because she's not quite right yet. I kind of want to repaint her, but due to the shortage of Volks' ZM spray I might just add on to this existing one.

@Dybbuk That's interesting about Zii and LJK! I always thought they looked incredibly similar, but still, it's kind of funny they took a non-limited sculpt and made him limited! To be fair, LJK did have a pretty unique company faceup if I remember correctly. Did they come in different resin colors, at least?

 

@Dybbuk - yes that was the guy I was thinking of. I too would love to get an Osu. I did see that Queena in the MP but have to get all the first of the month bills all covered to see if there is anything left over to spend on myself.

@overlordu - I always loved the Shiva body (well, the whole doll actually). I really like looking at colored resins and that blue is very pretty. Sadly, no "colored" resin other than tan ever stays in my collection so I've learned not to buy any of the fantasy color offerings.

 

@overlordu Your Karin is wonderful! I've got a normal skin Karin, she's one of my favorite dolls.

 

@overlordu I commented on her new doll profile, but I absolutely love her! The fantasy skin tone is so beautiful and you painted her up so nicely~ I also lament with you on the lack of Volks Zouk spray, I have a few tan skin dolls I don't want to bother painting until I get that sealant. I can't wait to see how she looks at full completion. I think you might be the only person who owns this very unique combination of sculpt/skin tone and body!

My Zii and LJK are slightly different in skin tone, but I think it's because my Zii passed through quite a few hands and yellowed. They both need a deep clean to see what their true color is. I don't think LJK was offered in any resin other than their "Normal" skin at the time. I was always curious if they might be the same but I didn't know of anyone who owned Zii and LJK to do a comparison. Now because I'm a doll hoarder, I can finally do so!

@Mu Shu : I totally understand. I'm having to slow down my purchasing so I can put money toward Christmas things very soon. Hopefully she can wait a bit for you~

@Mu Shu, I also used to love looking at fantasy resins but I was afraid to own them myself. Luckily when I finally went for it, I ended up really loving them and now I try to avoid "natural" resin colors Blue is definitely my favorite and now I have 3 blue dolls

I wouldn't be surprised if she's the only doll with this combo... at the time, Souldoll was offering any girl head on the Shiva body, and there were a bunch of colors available too. I know I saw at least one other person who got one in blue, though they chose a different head sculpt. It was such a great opportunity that honestly I'm shocked I don't see more 4-armed ladies around Also, I have felt like something of a doll hoarder lately but your ability to unite these long-lost twin sculpts makes me feel justified to continue hoarding

When he was released, I was already pressed with other doll purchases I had to let him go and just reminded myself that you win some/lose some. Then someone on IG put a feeler up for her boy in Moonlight brown and I had to pounce. The resin color is exquisite, and this marks my first tan doll from Souldoll!

Hello hello everyone ^_^ I'm kinda surprised that the Sould Doll thread seems relatively quiet! I was somehow expecting much more activity considering their pretty sculpts and aesthetics ♡ Maybe I can still get some answers to my questions and gather some of your experiences with Soul Doll since I recently fell in love with Ah-In and Caleb •>.<•

So, did anyone get a full set or company faceup from Soul Doll recently? I'm extremely tempted to order a faceup along the doll if I take the plunge, but I'm obviously wondering if the faceups are as gorgeous irl as they appear in the promo shots. Any experience would be appreciated big time ^-^

Is Soul Doll reliable to order from directly? I'm mainly thinking communication, wait times, shipping. They offer a very convenient up-to 6 months layaway but only start working on the doll once paid off. If they have long production periods, that could put the wait time at a year ×.×

And lastly, please share your general experience and share your dolls ^___^ I would love to learn about the posability, resin tones and just *see* the sculpts! Thanks a lot in advance! ~♡

 

There are other discussion thread for specific SoulDoll sized dolls, like the Zenith, that is the part II, so there is a bit of discussion there. I own two SoulDolls and two floating heads, but they are ancient. When I got them, I did purchase them directly from SoulDoll except for my first doll that was a collaborative Christmas gift from my mom and my bff when I was first getting into these dolls. They didn't delay the orders I got directly from them, they took around six months back then, and they were always super friendly to me, whenever I asked for blank photos. They did take a bit of time to send the photos, but I think it's understandable or at least it was reasonable amount of time for me back then. Mostly, because the head sculpts, I got, were being discontinued, so I wanted to see if I really wanted to own them or not, and they did respond before the deadline to order them. I don't know if they have changed in the many years I haven't purcahsed from them, although I am temtped to get some of their heads still, I haven't purchased anything from them in more than ten years. (:

@Sasha of the Crows There are definitely other threads for Souldoll, but they have all tended to be a little more quiet compared to other company threads. I ordered directly from Souldoll without any issues these last couple years (and have never had any issues with ordering from them). I just got a Kid Angel.S Persephone this year and got a Kid Baby Pink Unicorn Ver last year. Both were special resin colors (the latest blue green is very pretty). Souldoll has given me the fastest preorders of any dolls I've ordered and has always been great with communication for me. I own 5 dolls from them currently. I have a Kid Liddell who has the company faceup and it is super lovely, matched the photos exactly. Caleb is very lovely and very tempting right now, I'm struggling with my willpower for him. Luckily I like the human version more than the fantasy version.

 

I ordered a doll with company faceup a couple years ago and it looks just as nice as the pictures. I've also ordered directly from souldoll several times and the communication has always been friendly. The only problem with souldoll I can think of is that shipping is very expensive right now.

@InnocentSin Glad to hear about the faceup and good communication! I've also heard about the expensive shipping Alice's even has a note on that on their Soul Doll page. I'm wondering how expenive we're talking ?_? Luts' shipping is also quite pricey and they also ship EMS from S.Korea, so if it's along these lines, I can handle it ^^;

 

@Sasha of the Crows it has been a few years but I have ordered directly from Souldoll several times, never had any problems with them. I've ordered dolls with face ups as well as blank dolls. Their face ups are some of the best company face ups out there. I have never done a full set doll but have ordered outfits separately from them and the quality of the outfits has been excellent. The quality of their dolls is very good. Their communication was always good. It's unfortunate that shipping costs are up so much, but that is just about everywhere.

A very surprising hybrid is my Souldoll Morse (orig. 60cm new double body) => now on Spiritdoll Grace 65cm body. Not bad. Blushable, I hope so...

@Arengil I am amazed how well he fits on this body! I had a Double Morse for a short while back when he came out and his head seemed sooooo tiny to me, compared to my other 1/3 dolls Beautiful, but very underrated sculpt.

 

@Mandagore Thank you! If the head was a little bigger, I'd be happier, but I really like him that way too. And he looks reasonable for a 65cm body.

 

Hi there, does anyone have their Souldoll in the new white? I would love to see how it looks, as the old white was very very white and i am hoping the new will be a bit creamier in colour.

 

Hey there @Dove! I do have a Souldoll girl in the new white. It seems more creamy than the stark white WHITE like the previous version.

Hell all...I purchased Souldoll Caleb in green from BJDivas on Jan 1st. I'm wondering how long Souldoll takes to ship usually? I wish I bought right from the company though, because I head BJDivas can take longer? Thanks all!

 

@legend_to_none : When I've purchased directly from Souldoll they have always stayed consistently within their 3 to 4 month wait time. Ordering from a dealer will take longer usually... when did you order?

I ordered him Jan 1st. I regret getting through a dealer. I don't know why I purchased through them to be honest, maybe just because one of the last ones I had a layaway with them. So far it's been just over 5 month wait. Hope to see some Caleb's soon. I got him with everthing except painting and the costume (I have a costume for him here I think will fit) I can't wait to see that green resin. I have grey dolls, a blue one and now green. Hoping to find something cool in red one day!

Looking to buy a set of articulated hands that would be the right size/scale for a Souldoll Zenith. I have Chu, for what it's worth. He was listed at 69cm tall.

I got his cast in white skin. Appreciate any pointers. I am able to buy from taobao if there are any reputable sellers there for parts.

A friend of mine bought Doll Family hands for a lot of her hybrids, and she collects dolls on the larger side, so those could possibly work. Although resin match might not be accurate.

 

@Dybbuk When I bought Yalaren (Ize) I was told he had an eye-opening mod. He's also got awesome tattoos around his neck, shoulders and upper chest as well as his forearms. His clothing hides them mostly, which is a bit of a shame, but he also tends to keep them hidden because of what they mark him as being and what him having them caused to happen in his life.

I'd always wanted a Juhl when I first saw him but the double line was discontinued before I discovered Soul Doll so I was really happy when I was able to get him 2nd hand. I was also very fortunate that I was able to get the Azreal skull head 2nd hand. I love the way his face-up turned out, too.

 

A pretty new Soul Doll Vito girl - Aspyn came up on the website today! I really like her face sculpt a lot. She's another fantasy skin tone (they are really fond of pastel purples aren't they?)

A Vito boy in fantasy colours with fantasy parts? My wallet would def fall over crying and wailing to not do it. Honestly if they ever released The Hanged Man again I'd be all over him in a heartbeat.

 

@Iron_Dog I agree! I really wish they would delve more into some fantasy parts because they do such a great job with them. There are a bunch of dolls I've missed over the years with them too... I am excited to see what else comes next from them!

 

@Dybbuk It seems like it's the girls that get all the fantasy love *sigh*. Unless I'm remembering it wrong, it seems like all of the latest fantasy releases have been girls. I don't collect girls at all so obviously I'm disappointed (my wallet is thrilled at this trend though).

I wonder if they would consider doing re-releases. I know they did one for Berial (without the fantasy parts though) as I bought him in grey. I would so throw my money at them for Kyle/Amon The Hanged Man or a Kowlaski. Naturally the 2 times I saw a Kowlaski 2nd hand, I didn't have the money for him. I've never seen a Kyle/Amon 2nd hand (I'd want him with the fantasy parts though and don't care about the human version). And if wishes were reality, I'd love for them to bring back their Double line (I have 2 that I got 2nd hand).

Thanks! I bought him because I loooved his cheekbones. Glad I did too because he was only in production for like six months? I got him right before he went out of production in 2011. He has 7 or 8 more wigs to model and a LOT more outfits, haha. I'm working only with a crappy Moto G Power phone though so they'll never be very good I'm afraid!
