Soom Teenie Gem and Monthly Doll Discussion Part 14

Oh yes, I'm a very patient collector. I'm still hunting for some they haven't rereleased that I missed, like Selen/Sabie and Nive, and I waited 6 years for my Blossom of Earth Glati! There's always a chance someone who did order one will change their mind once it arrives and decide to sell as well, so it's just a waiting and saving game for me. There's plenty of work that still needs to be done on the herd of TGs I already have, so that's where I'm focusing my efforts.

I have a Dolomi in blue snow skin. Sorry if she’s a bit over dressed to see all that much of her, but she’s a diva you know! I adore this sculpt. Her name is Jewell.

 

Taco/Dolomi is their official "dragon" for Teenie Gems, but depending on what style you're going for you could use some other sculpts or fantasy parts. Taco is more inspired by Eastern-style dragons. For a more Western-style you could use Viol/Ling (bats), Grit/Syen (gargoyles), Baby Isha Devilkin (if you're okay with human feet but wings and horns), Hati/Skoll Devils Stone (more mammal-esque paw feet but cool wings and horns), or Carbon/Luxulla. If you're feeling really creative even Picro/Sammi could work.

For bunnies, there's Flint/Hawa, Bunny/Honey, and Happy/Lucky Gotcha!

Also, did anybody else order the last Viol/Ling release? I'm still bummed I miss the mango resin from the first release, but I'm happy to get the snow blue this time and my friend is getting one in normal.

Soom's August release schedule is up, and it looks like on the 26th we're getting either a re-release or a re-imagining of Nive! I've been trying to get an OG one secondhand, so now I'm curious what this release will bring us. Will they stick to the awesome mermaid tail of the first release but give us new colors, or go in a completely different direction? They give a secondary name of Libe, so I'm guessing we're getting one regular resin color and one that's more "fantasy", but this is all just my excited speculation.

 

My Nor&Dune Jr just arrived today! They're super cute, though swapping out the arms for the wings was a pain (had to actually bend one of the s-hooks a little wider for the left wing).

I absolutely adore their feet.

I've been away from the BJD world for so long, but looking through this thread has been super nice. I'm planning a complete re-do of my Beyla (she's had the same wig/look for the past 10 years, and I've been out of the hobby for the past...5?6?) and I'm really hyped up for it now I'll try to post pics when we're done ^-^

Hi guys, Merry Christmas! Here is my Aloa I love him, but I prefer with human body (it’s a pain to make his outfit lol). Do youknow if impldoll white will fit?

I've seen some people hybrid Soom heads onto Impldoll bodies, but they were in larger sizes and the body had already been blushed. It looked okay, but I can't say how well the match would be without painting or how it would look proportionally.

Soom's monthly schedule says they're releasing Opel and Lier on the 27th. Do you guys think it'll be the same parts with new colors? Or maybe new parts? I love this sculpt and I'm curious to see what they decide to do with it. I doubt I'd buy another one, but I make no promises~

Since I haven't posted a photo in a while, have a photo of my newest, Wynn. He has the ice blue bat wings but the magnets aren't glued in yet. I love love love his little fang!

@dds27 I recall some folks having a hybrid soom head on impldoll body but now I don't remember who, it has been a long time. My white Syen is hybrid on a Fairyland Littlefee body. I love it so much I sold his soom body.

Aww..your dolls are so cute. I try impldoll then, and see myself if it will fit, it's not that expensive anyway.If it doesn't I will just blush it to fit my silky light violet head ^^

 

Soom and their complete lack of blushing for fantasy parts! This still annoys me, because so many faceup artists don't copy the company faceup!

 

It really is odd, considering they offered blushing on the last few Teenie Gems they released. I wonder if it's a staffing issue, or some agreement with the sculptor maybe? Either way I can understand your frustration. I hope you can find someone who will work with you given its unavailability from the company.

Also, I have a Lier (gray skin) from the previous release if anybody has photo requests.

 

Hey everyone^^. So I recently received my first Soom tiny, a Syen with Afi hooves I bought from my friend. She arrived extremely loose, so I tried to tighten her strings (and promptly couldn't get her head back on because the knot is too big to fit through the neck hole, and too tight to undo now>.<) and discovered that even with tightened strings her hip design appears to be absolutely awful compared to all my other tinies. It's like if she stands with her hips locked, they stick out of the sockets a little and she arches back a ridiculous amount, if I adjust her hips so she stands properly upright (and no, I can't adjust the pose well enough with just the torso joint) the hips don't lock and the tiniest disturbance will make her buckle forward. Is this something all Ai/Afi's have? Is it because her torso/hip part is a Syen part that doesn't quite fit the Afi legs? Is there a fix for it? I haven't really examined her hip joints in-depth yet. Also her legs have the tendency to go one in front of the other, after which the back leg tends to snap to bent position. Maybe it's just a matter of properly restringing with new elastic and some (hotglue) sueding? Any help and insights are appreciated!

 

I have always found restringing to be much better than attempting to tighten the strings! And it's usually easier too! I , like Volks elastic. It has more reserve stretch.

And I like to position the knot in the torso!

 

Soom is taking votes on which Teenie Gem to (re)release!

The options are Taco/Dolomi, Ario/Argil, Carbon/Luxillia, Yarn/Silky, Hati/Skoll (Devil’s Stone), Shonki/Appini, and Puss in Boots.

You can also vote for the fantasy parts from any of the above releases, a basic resin tone (peony, cream, tawny) and a special resin tone (powder blue, light green, gray, and a rose pink).

I’m mildly disappointed they didn’t include Selen/Sabie but it’s nice to see sculpts that haven’t seen as many releases.

I voted for Yarn/Silky, tawny, and light green!

 

I voted for Hati/Skoll in normal since I am crazy about the sculpt, and do not have it in normal yet.

Ah, their cute Puss in Boots won the poll... I may be in danger. I really like his scrunched kitty face.

 

My wallet is safe! The cat face is too anthro for my collection and I don’t feel any interest in the human head. They said they would use the data as consideration for which TGs to release in the future, so I’m interested in seeing what else we might get from this poll.

 

I am glad we are getting another shot at Puss, but I am not digging the color options. I think my wallet is safe for now.

I have a puss in boots from the original release! His name is Pascal and is one of my absolute favorites. I won’t be getting a second one, but part of me wants to hoard them. One of each color

 

Yeah, the colors are not as exciting as his original Tan... I'll have to see him with faceup to decide, myself.

Hello friends! It's been a long time since I've posted here... I do lurk occasionally, but life has been busy (wrangling my human toddler!) and I haven't had time for doll related things for a long while. I finally got my dolls out today after probably more than a year (maybe almost two )... I honestly miss this hobby, and miss all the fun I used to have and the beautiful photos and thrill of new Soom releases (although my wallet definitely doesn't miss it )! I sorted through some of my stuff, and looked over my babies, and realized I never got my OE Beyla girl her own body like I planned to (she's on a 5stardoll body, but I want her to match the rest of my Soomlings)! I'm kinda hoping to remedy this, and have my eye on a body from 2011 that I'm hoping will be a match! My R. Beyla head has a Minette body from 2011 and it matches pretty well (you can tell there's a slight difference in certain lighting, but it's not bad)! The body I'm looking at is an Aloa body from 2011.

I realize it's a long shot, but if anyone here has an Aloa from 2011 and a Beyla from 2009 (both in cream white), and could tell me (or share pictures of) how the match is, and if they seem compatible, that would be really great!

Otherwise... I just hope everyone here has been doing really well and enjoying your teenies! Almost feels like another lifetime since I was active here...


ETA: just looked back at my last post and it was from February 2019... that was the month before I found out I was pregnant! It really was another lifetime!

 

Looks like we're getting a Honey and Bunny rerelease! I was hoping for new colors but based on the teaser banner they're casting in the same resin tones as the original release (baby pink and tawny.) I'll probably be getting one in tawny if so.

 

Hey, just an update... I posted a Wanted thread here on the marketplace because I did not hear back from the person selling the body I was interested in. I got a message the other day from someone here on the forums who had a few bodies for me to choose from! She was amazingly helpful and sent me tons of pictures and I purchased the body today (it's an Ai body from 2011, so it should be a good match. She had a 2009 Yrie who matched the body, so I'm confident it will work out beautifully)! She's hoping to ship on Friday and, with luck, I'll have the body in hand by my birthday later this month! I'm pretty excited!! I've been waiting for a very long time to give my OE Beyla her own Soom TG body.

 

Oh that is super exciting! my OE Beyla is on a Glot torso with Eliv arms (the lower body is a Peapod Doll Mermaid tail), but my R Beyla with the unicorn horn is on a LTF body with Daisy Dayes hooves. I really need to take new pics of them... My wife owns a Soom Ai with fantasy body only.

 

I took new photos of mine for the first time in almost 2 years recently. I'll have to share some here when I get around to uploading them. I love Beyla, definitely one of my favorite sculpts!!

 

I ended up ordering Honey AND Bunny because I couldn't decide on what color to get... I was just too curious to see a Teenie Gem in the Rose Pink. The pet dolls in that color are really pretty.

I'm trying to be better about taking photos of my current collection, so I thought I'd start with Basil, my Ario. I love this sculpt so much and I'm a little surprised it hasn't seen a re-release.

 

@HackerEd So cute!! I agree, I'd love to see a re-release of Ario & Argil! I couldn't afford them at the time, but loved the sculpt and the little wings!

 

Just wanted to share that the body has arrived!! It has been almost 11 years in the making for my OE Beyla to get a body of her very own, but it finally happened!! I'm ecstatic!!

I recently jumped on the Teenie Gem train with Grit from 2010. I was not able to buy that release back then or even the re-release, but recently I had a change to get him second hand after waiting for all the years.
Lurking in the Soom websites now collecting a list of dolls I hope they will re-release haha. I would not have mind the Hati/Skoll Devil's Stone instead of the Puss release, since I am obsessed with grey resin now.

 

I love the stories of these long sought quests finally being fulfilled by @Kelaria and @daeki! It’s like someone is relaying a fairytale with a happy ending in both these stories. How wonderful! Applause, applause! And both these dolls look positively amazing too! Heartfelt congratulations to you both!

 

I LOVE gray resin, too! I actually didn't at first, but it grew on me and then I fell in love with it. If you ever have a chance to get the Devil's Stone Hati/Skoll, definitely do it! I love my little gray wolf boy.

I love Soom's grays, it's fascinating to see how their undertones are subtly different from release to release. Here's my Glot/Glati Honeyish Incubi, Farrow.

 

How cute! Love his outfit! If you don't mind me asking, where did you get it? I feel like cute boy clothes in the style I like are harder to find! Not that I've looked super recently, but it took me forever to find an outfit I was happy with for Tytus, my Skoll!

Aaaw, Hati/Skoll is a cute sculpt. I love the lips especially. I found out that the is currently white (but yellowed) Hati/Skoll in the second hand market in my country and I am debating hard getting that doll... that sculpt is just too adorable to pass white or grey, choices choices haha... grey would be ideal thou

That's really interesting observation. I have had mostly lighter skin dolls from Soom before, so I have not thought of that before. So basically it is impossible to hybrid the dolls with each others parts without doing some color matching.
And I must say, I love the pink wig with grey skin, looks super cute on him.

Thank you! I unashamedly took a lot of inspiration from the design of Caduceus Clay from Critical Role.

Hybriding parts from different gray releases could still be done, I think it would depend more on taste and luck than other Soom resin colors.

Hati/Skoll is lovely too, I have a Free Choice in Bronze. His name is Roosevelt.

 

I really want a bronze Soomling!! I was thinking bronze would be perfect for my little dragon boy I have planned, but I also need dragon parts, so I'm honestly at a loss. I guess I'm just waiting to see what Soom releases in the future and if they ever put out more dragon parts for a Teenie Gem or do another free choice of some kind.

Thank you!! I love peonies, but never want to bring them inside because of the ants. Putting them in the bird bath ended up being so beautiful and my husband was a genius for suggesting I take photos of my dolls there!

My Tinies 2022

It's been 8 years since I put Wren's birdie parts on and transformed her into Phoenyx. Her story is that she's a demi-god (daughter of the God of Air in her world and a mortal mother of the Angelic race who have wings) and her divine nature enables her to transform from human form (where she goes by Wren, has lighter hair, green sparkly eyes, and is more carefree) into her divine, winged form (where she goes by Phoenyx, has more orangey hair, golden eyes, wings & talons, and is more serious & mysterious).

 

Oh my, she’s utterly gorgeous! I’ve always had such a soft spot for the winged soomlings. They’re just so elegant looking.
