Soom Teenie Gem and Monthly Doll Discussion Part 14

You have to be careful with hybriding Sooms though. If you’re REALLY particular about resin matching it may be difficult, because I feel like their colored resin batches all end up slightly different. For instance I now have multiple dolls in their gray resin but each has a different color in their undertone.

 

Yes, I'd rather not do a hybrid because of resin matching, so I'm not quite sure where to go from here!

 

Well, you could wait and see if they offer a Full Choice event in the future that includes tan resin and Han/Asronn parts (I will mention that in past events, you have to order a resin/part combo that hasn’t had an official release, so that could complicate it).

You could also try to get one in cream white and hand dye it. I would not recommend this unless you have a lot of patience and someone who has done it before to help you.

Seeing as how this sculpt was released in Tawny not that long ago, I would post a Want to Buy thread in the marketplace and keep an eye out for someone selling it secondhand. You might be waiting for a while but most sculpts get listed eventually.

Out of curiosity, have you seen the Feny/Necy sculpt? They’re supposed to be foxes, and they turn up on the marketplace more often (although tan is still rare.)

After I paid for a grail of mine a couple days ago, I said "that's it, no more dolls until social isolation is over"

Then Soom did a rerelease of Picro that looks virtually identical to the original. That promise lasted all of one day....

 

I really want to get the blue version myself. I haven’t totally decided yet but I will probably cave and order her.

 

Yeah... my wife and I are sorely tempted by the Picro as well, but in CW. She's thinking of turning her into a character of hers. I'm all for it, but we gotta wait until we get paid again.

 

Im kinda tempted, I already have two dolls on layaway with them but I have until May 11th to make my decision. If I do decide to order one I’ll get one in the blue skin I am a sucker for fantasy skin color.

 

I too am tempted by the blue! I wish they’d used the transparent resin for the feet and hands like they did in the original release but I’ll take it.

 

I’m not familiar with the original release but transparent parts would look really nice with the blue skin.

Edit: so I went to check out the original release and it would have been nice if the fins were transparent and I like the face up better than the current one. I’m really tempted!

 

Hi. I was wondering did anyone here order the Bygg/ Beyla doll in light violet. If you did have you received him/ her yet, I would love to see pics. I would love to see what the color looks like this year.

 

I also wish they had used translucent resin for the hands and feet, but I'll have to think on whether or not it is enough to deter me, hmm.

 

I ordered the Trachy/Lami in light violet they released in February, but it hasn’t shipped yet. I imagine it’ll use the same (or very close) resin batch though.

 

Hi, My Bygg/ Beyla in light violet shipped a couple of days ago. So she is on a plane on her way home. I can’t wait to see her in person..I just wanted to share my excitement!

I just adopted a sweet little friend for my Glati/Yrie...this time it’s a Teenie Gem Taco in snow blue skin (although it’s more of a pale aqua after so many years.) I was so happy to find her here in our marketplace. As a little dragon, I chose the very appropriate name, Jewell. She still has her original company face-up and body blushing. And I was delighted that she actually came with this delightfully “messy” wig, which is a great compliment to Birdie’s messy wig...because the two of them are rather scruffy little girls who enjoy spending their days rumaging through antique quilts in an attic.

@skyealloway, Thank you! I made a wardrobe of 5 of these little dresses from antique, worn, cutter quilts for my Glati/Yrie “Birdie” to fit in with her quilt loving persona, so now they can be shared with her new friend Jewell.

@brightberry, thanks so much! I was looking for a little Teenie Gem friend for my dear little Birdie, and was so happy to stumble across her here in the marketplace. For being made in 2010, she’s still in great condition and her company face-up and body blushing has held up wonderfully. You certainly have to be impressed with Soom’s quality.

 

I am so happy to join you here, I just bought my first teenie doll from someone second hand- b.isha!
I am a bit troubled by the outfit though. It is difficult to find some clothes style which similar to the official outfit :'(
And recommend artist or brand?

 

I've found various things by looking for other Soom outfits when they show up on the secondhand market. However since they are pretty standard 1/6 size, I've had luck with most companies. Some of the Volks outfits have a bit of a fantasy edge for example. A few of the companies that built my kids wardrobes alas no longer exist.

 

You are so lucky! I wanted to search for a b.isha's official outfit but there is no one selling it....
Most of the clothes made for 1/6 in my country (Taiwan) are for girls, but I imagine my isha a little boy :\ It is so hard...

 

I totally understand. It is VERY hard to find "Soom styled" clothing, especially for boys. I held out for my one boy until Soom released another outfit I liked and snatched it up while Soom was still selling it. Boys are so much harder to find nice fantasy style clothing for.

 

So true.... it's already so hard to find boys' outfit, not to mention a boys' fantasy outfit.
To me, I have Super Gem, ID75 and Teenie Gem dolls, I would say that to find a Teenie Gem boys' fantasy outfit is the most difficult job. lolll

 

Yes! I'm dying for minifee fantasy clothes for boys and just. Nada.

Alas patience is the key as much as it sucks. I'll check my kids closet to check what brands I have for mine because I do have a few, but I know I buy a stupid amount of Soom clothing. I know they have outfits from Volks, and Angell-Studio as their main sources but I know there are others. Dikadoll maybe? Something totally random gave me a couple of their pieces. My steampunk 1/6 is the Dollheart addict...

It's been a looooong time since I posted here. Hi!
I bought the Soom Coyote Elf doll and extra head when those came out. I've made it a girl named Lucrezia, and I'm working on getting a body, eyes, and wig for the other head so she can have a twin brother. That way, I can use them to model and sell doll clothes on my Weebly store.

Here are some photos of Lu, starting with her unboxing (in some simple clothes I made just to have clothes for her). She's slightly yellowed over the years from outdoor photo shoots (I mainly keep her in her bag), but when she arrived she was a perfect paper-white.

Putting together a Renaissance Faire outfit for her was fun. Her kirtle is the first thing I ever cartridge-pleated. (I thought I'd start small, since cartridge-pleating for a human outfit takes quite a few yards of fabric.)



And here she is in a sundress I made, with a crocheted Sackboy friend.



I'm currently working on turning an old out-of-style top into a pair of matching turtleneck sweaters (because why have twin dolls if you aren't going to ever dress them alike).

@Buddahz54 , I make most of my dolls' clothes, but if you want, once I have some extra items to sell, I can message you?

And since there's clearly a demand for boys' fantasy-style clothes, I guess I know what my next sewing project for wee ones is going to be.

 

That would be great, I read somewhere that Bygg's and others his size can wear YOSD clothes? I have a few small dolls his size so Let me know when you have a site up or contact me I am a new member and I need like 50 plus posts to be qualified to be able to purchase from the marketplace here,, I have not had 50 questions or posts and the handful I did post "do not qualify" towards my 50 requirement,, Oh well Thanks for an info or contact for future clothes items

 

I can confirm, Teenie Gems wear yosd clothing

 

Teenies do wear Yo sized clothing, but do be cautious because they are slimmer than many 1/6 dolls. I've found that the pants on Volks outfits don't stay on unless they have an elastic waistband. The waist difference is just too large on the tailored ones (if they close with a hook and eye closure, for example). Dresses and tops are much easier. Usually you only have to worry about their hands/fantasy parts not fitting through the sleeve hole. Sometimes if the item is made for a chubbier 1/6 doll it can look a little "oversized" but that's usually not a problem unless you have a VERY particular sense of styling.

I hope that wasn't too much of a ramble, I have a lot of TGs and I've bought clothing from many places over the years. I too have a mighty need for fantasy/Victorian/Soom-like clothing for boys. Especially without using any check-patterned fabric or prints that look too childish/cartoonish.

 

Maybe I'm just reading the patterns wrong, but they also seem to have a bit more "junk in the trunk" than other 1/6 dolls, because I'm having to tweak some Yo pants patterns to fit right in the hips.

 

The Soom Cheshire Jr. is released now! Is anybody planning to get one?

 

I wish! Not looking to be spendy after Christmas. But I love those kitty feet. Very cute.

 

I was a little miffed when they announced the Cheshires in light violet this time... I had gotten the "in Neverland" release earlier this year, thinking that a light violet would be difficult to get ahold of anytime soon. I do love my pirate kitty though, so I decided not to get another. I'd rather hold out for my holy grail re-release of Selen/Sabie! I sure did end up with a lot of gray resin TGs this year though.

 

ME!!! I've been waiting to get my hands on a CW or PW since I saw them on a mutual's IG account. I'm so happy to finally have another one of my grails ticked off my list!

I got a body for Lukas! I'm just...no longer sure where to post the hybrid. He has a Bambicrony Ciao Bella body, so would I post him here or in the Bambicrony thread?

 

When it comes to hybrids, the general rule of thumb is to post in a thread according to the head rather than the body (unless of course it’s the body you’re highlighting for some specific reason.) I hope this helps.

I did! I found one of my old sweaters that didn't fit and was way out of style, so instead of sending it to Goodwill where they'd just throw it out anyway, I made a doll sweater out of it.

 

The Grit & Syen is gonna be released today!!! The panel on the website looks so good! Love the sculpt, and hope the outfit is great too!!

 

I'm tempted by the rerelease of grit and syen! I still have my syen...but I sold my fantasy parts so long ago and have regretted it...very tempted to get a full fantasy doll back!
I'm not impressed by the faceup option and I'm not in love with the outfit either, which is a bummer.

 

I'm a little disappointed that they didn't do any more unusual skin tones for this release. I know peony white is different than the cream but not much, and gray was the alternate color last release as well. Would've loved to see the light green (like sov), light violet, or any of the blue tones instead. The good news is that my wallet is safe this time.

 

Soom just posted their release schedule for March, and it looks like the Hansel & Gretel sculpt will be rereleased next week. No word on what fantasy parts or resin tones they'll use but I'm definitely curious.

Hello I've not been on DOA forever! Was the honeyish incubi glati/glot not popular? I've not really seen many people with it.

 

I was really tempted by that set, myself. I regret not getting one.

 

Aww I wasn't really in the fandom so I didn't know about it. I love glati/glot so much! I've only see many 1-2 doll owner photos

 

I was more a fan of the original and the Blossom of Earth versions.

 

I don't remember a lot of people talking about it, but I actually have one in gray! I haven't gotten to do any of my painting or even glued in the magnets on its fantasy parts yet though. I have the Blossom of Earth release too now. It's funny because I didn't like the Glot/Glati head sculpt when it originally released, but now I have two versions.

Soom Nor&Dune Jr. don't seem to be popular here but I got the romantic head...is he nor? or dune? can't wait to get him! does anyone know how long Soom takes to ship dolls without face ups out?

 

That's because this is the first release of the sculpt in Teenie Gem size. It was originally a Little Gem (MSD) sculpt. I was debating on getting one but when I finally decided to it was marked as sold out, even though the preorder period hadn't expired yet. So I guess it's not meant to be right now.

 

I'm sorry about that I also decided late that I wanted the open eyed head and Soom told me that they couldn't add it, that I had to cancel the order and start a new order but the period to order already closed so there was nothing they could do...they have become strict, years ago they were more flexible about adding or changing stuff.

Soom always releases the dolls again, hopefully you can get the doll in the future!
