Soom Teenie Gem and Monthly Doll Discussion part 10

Jan 8, 2014

1. oooo, I was so focused on the wings and horns, I totally missed the hands.
(^_^) thanks, I will definitely look into those too

2. Aw man, I missed Carbon back when she/he came out, am hoping for a FCE release so I can get one in a funky color..

3. Here I am again! I have been avoiding the thread ever since I sold my Ai and Beyla :pout:

However, I just had an opportunity to adopt a Soom Thunder Play Bygg!!! I am so excited! I adore these little guys and I cannot wait to have a pony in my life~ :aheartbea

Everyone'se little ones are so cute! I will keep tabs on the thread moving forward and hopefully make more specific posts soon.

4. Mortifox, did you adopt Lil Spark's Bygg!? :D I saw she was selling her and was so sad, but if the buyer is you, then we will get to see her Bygg again!! :)

Congrats on being able to buy another Soomling! ^_^ I'm glad you've come back to join us and hopefully we will see lots of your little Bygg here! :3

To get you in a Bygg mood for your little one's arrival, here is some Luna spam (my OE Bygg):

You can see more of her (and my OE Beyla) in my latest gallery thread (the photo is a link). :)

5. Maybe :)

I am super excited! Your little one is so cute! I am not sure what I am going to do yet, but I think it may be a boy in my care. Perhaps something a little punk... we'll shall see :P

6. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you do with him/her! ;)

That's one of my favorite things about this hobby! It's so much fun to see the different looks and personalities people give their dolls! And it's so cool to see how different two dolls of the same sculpt can look just based on customizing! :3

7. Umm, super important question though... since I have been out of the loop a bit. Which size eye fits best. Its 14mm right?

8. Hi Mortifox,

Soom only sold the 14mm with the teenies so that's what they recommended until the last doll.

9. That's actually a great question though, because I use 14mm with my OE tinies, but my unicorn Beyla uses 12mm! I find that 12mm works great with tinies who have sleepy eyes. ;) But you might want to try both and see what you like best for your Bygg! :)

10. Okay, I think I remember having 14mm in my Beyla. I miss her deeply, but I had a medical emergency and no other options :P However, I dare say nothing will part me from my darling Bygg. I have a name picked out, but I am going to make sure it fits before I announce it and jynx myself.

11. I'm sorry you had to sell your Beyla! :( That's such a sad situation to be in! Perhaps you will be able to buy a new Beyla someday! :) I'm so glad that you were able to get your Bygg though! I really look forward to seeing him/her! :3 Will you be posting a box opening thread? ^_^

12. Oh very much so. I have not had a box opening photo set in quite some time.

13. Yeah, I've had "mini" box openings (doll parts and such), but I haven't had a real full doll box opening since I bought my second-hand unicorn Beyla hybrid (Laurel) in Feb of 2011, over 3 years ago! My last 'from the company' box opening (my Custom House girls) was in Oct of 2010 and my last direct-from-Soom box opening was almost exactly four years ago (as of Wednesday the 16th, which would have been my SG Spinel's fourth anniversary with me if I had not sold him).

I will say that getting the two bodies for my unicorn Beyla and my OE Bygg was pretty fun, because the bodies came in Soom boxes & cushions. There's nothing like the excitement of opening a package that has a white Soom box inside! ;) I can't wait to open my Lilid! I am guessing she'll be here by the end of September if Soom is able to ship within their 100 day guarantee! :)

On the topic of names for dolls, I've been working on a name for my incoming Lilid because I don't want to keep calling her Lilid and have it stick too much! :P I have a couple top contenders, but I'm still hesitant to choose. I guess I'm worried I will pick the wrong name and will have to re-name her, which I don't want to do. :sweat I spend way too much time on doll names! XD

14. Yes, Barley will live with Mortifox from now on :) It's hard to let her go but I can't wait to see what she will look like :) And I still have my centaur Bygg and Beyla at home who will get a face-up soon, so I won't stop posting Bygg pics :) I always had 12mm eyes in her which looked perfect :)

15. Oh okay :) I am thinking about just waiting and trying in a few different pairs. I have a small collections of eyes so I'm sure I will have some temporary ones to stick in there until I find something more appropriate. I am going to stick with something purple though!

16. Lil Spark, I wished so much that I could buy her (was subbed to her sale thread and everything), but knew that I couldn't. Then I logged in yesterday and saw that she had sold and I felt so sad! I thought about asking who bought her, but then Mortifox came and solved that mystery for me! ;) I am glad that someone here on DoA (who visits this thread particularly) has bought her!

Purple seems to suit this particular Bygg quite well! :) Will you be using that purple frezje dress for a different doll now? I really am looking forward to seeing your centaur Bygg & Beyla all done! <3 I feel like we haven't seen much of the Bygg/Beyla 'taurs here!

17. My darling Picro arrived today :aheartbea
Still need to glue all her magnets in, but I couldn't resist getting her all dressed up ^^;;

18. Congrats on your Picro, Kotone. And Horizon looks great Lil Spark. I really must get a blue TG some day, I get so jealous of the blue babies in this thread!

Also, I think it's defenitely time for Soom to do a purple Teenie! Why not a little demon in pearly violet resin? I know I'd want one!

19. I second little.fox idea
a pearlescent purple demon is just what I'd want too.
Great thinking fox girl !

20. yes, purple would be a good color <3 Like maybe a selkie with seal flippers and a tail that would be so cute.

Also, for anyone who has both the double and single jointed teenies, do you also find the single jointed ones, to be stiffer posers? Honestly it could be because my Dolomi was played with by the previous owner and may have gotten different strings at some point, and my Picro arrived pretty much new, but my Dolomi requires much less effort to move around, if that makes any sense. Sorry, I don't have experience with any other teenie gems, they're my first two ^^;;

21. I like my Necy's second hand single jointed body. I have no problems posing them. They may like to pop back into elbow at right angle mode, but they do hold poses outside of that if you don't jostle them too much after you get them there.

22. Thanks, Layn! Yeah, after playing around with her more, my Picro does hold poses very solidly. The double jointed body's elbows have an eagerness to bend because the extra piece is so round and smooth, but I like both bodies for different reasons.

23. Or maybe a cute little purple kitty with a mischevious smile! :D I think I'd be seriously tempted by anything purple though!

24. Kelaria: I am using the purple dress and her eyes on my white Littlefee Mio now :)

Everyone should have at least one blue Teenie, I have 5 and should definitely post a group shot of them :) And Soom definitely needs to make a purple Teenie!

25. Ohh, I would looove to see a blue teenie group photo!! :D

I'd love to see another purple Soomling too! :) I wonder what interesting teenie Soom will come up with next! ;)

26. They already did a mischievous purple Little Gem kitty! Maybe they'll do a mischievous purple Teenie Gem to match!

27. I know they did the LG Cheshire Cat, I have him and adore him, that's why I need one in TG size as well! You can always dream, right? ;)

28. So I think I am going to go with 12mm since the eye opening is a little smaller.

On another note though, I just found the perfect little coat for him. I just need to find something to cover his toosh. Etsy here I come LOL

And did I mention that he shipped :D I am so excited!!! He should be here next week!!!

29. Behold! Shameless Leira spam! :D

Sisters of Light and Shadow

In other news, I will be going to Florida to visit family for a week soonish (first week of August) and I've been thinking about the logistics of bringing a doll or two with me! I would love to bring all of my dolls with me, but I don't think that would be a good idea! :XD: If I do go through with it, I think I will bring Wren (my Yrie) and Ava (my Custom House Hani) with me.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about it, and I really do want to bring a couple dolls with me (and not just because I'm a little paranoid that something will happen to the rest of them while I'm gone >.<). It will be a really excellent opportunity for photographing a couple of my babies in a different place! ^_^

Has anyone here ever taken their dolls on an airplane before? I plan to pack them securely with bubble wrap in two of my Soom pillows and then pack them securely in either my carry-on backpack or my laptop case. I know there are risks to traveling with dolls, but I think that as long as I take precautions and pack them securely with lots of padding, they should be okay! I will be flying out of St. Louis, which is a pretty big airport, so I doubt the x-ray techs are going to be too concerned with my dolls (they've probably seen weirder, tbh). I did a little poking around the forums and found a 'traveling with BJDs' thread, but I was curious if any of this thread's regulars have done so. :)

30. Hi lovely Leira! i actually just brought an SD and an MSD to the Netherlands in my carry on. I wrapped them tightly in a towel together with face protectors and tied them up with a ribbon. Then I slid them in my backpack. Security was a bit tough, my backpack got searched both ways. (take your dolls out, carefully, so this doesn't happen) All was well, and there were no mishaps!

Good luck on your travels :)

31. How exactly did they search your backpack? o.O Did they make you take everything out? Did they seem confused by/interested in the dolls specifically?

I might be putting one or both of them in a hard carrying case that will probably go in the very bottom of my backpack (or wherever it fits best), so I really hope that they don't get all stupid with me. I mean, they're just dolls for goodness sake. -_- If I were 5 they wouldn't bat an eye at a doll in my carry-on.

32. Kelaria, more a lurker here than a regular :XD: but I've never had any problem taking my dolls through airport security, myself. I carried four with me in both April and May to some conventions (two tinies in a "personal bag," two minis in my carry-on) and never had security take a second look at any of it. The personal bag is lined with foam and flannel, and designed to hold two tinies at the bottom and some miscellaneous other stuff over a "false bottom" that sits above them, so they were just tucked nicely in there with a book, my tablet, and my DS. The Minis rode wrapped in some old AoD shipping blankets, along one side of my very tightly packed carry-on. Four flights total this year, and two last year taking two tinies in the carry-on, and I've never had them looked at once in all that time. I wouldn't worry that much about it. Pack them carefully, be prepared to take them out if needed, but don't act anxious or nervous about them and you probably won't gain any attention at all!

And since I did pop out of lurking a bit, I'll ask a question of the thread, too. Seeing everyone's photos has reinspired me on my direction with my own teenies... so if anyone is able to share pictures, I'd like to see any sea- or water-themed ones to help my inspiration!

33. The backpack went through the x-ray conveyer belt thingy and then they had to call someone over to physically search it with me watching. The guy was like "please don't touch anything till I'm done searching." I said, "The objects in the towels are DOLLS. Please be careful... they're FRAGILE!!" and then after they were done searching (he just peeked in the top of the towel's and looked at their heads) I was free to go.

When I was at Dutch security, I offered to take the dolls out, but the lady was like "no, it's okay" and it ended up getting searched anyway, but in the Netherlands, they search EVERY bag, so no harm, no foul.

vicemage, here's one of Nimue back when she was on her mermaid tail ;)

34. Ugh, I absolutely HATE going through security in the airport. It just ruins any possible enjoyment of the experience. Long lines, rude TSA employees, rude people, and then when they want to touch your stuff with their careless hands. -_-
They better be CAREFUL if they try to search my stuff. I will have an anxiety attack if they mishandle anything! >.<

Some people in the 'traveling with BJDs' thread said that bigger airports are usually less likely to bat an eye at seeing a doll in someone's carry-on (since they probably see a lot of strange things working in a larger airport). At least I'm traveling with my husband, so he can help me keep an eye on all our stuff. I really don't trust TSA employees. I've heard some things that give me zero confidence in their attitudes and behavior.

35. I took my Pukifee with me on vacation few years ago! She was stored in a soft DS case in my carry on. When I changed flights a security guard checked though my bag, he opened the DS case and laughed and said she was cute! XD I don't think he was expecting to see her in there! >w<

I also took my Glati to London and there were no issues with security. He was just in his squishy soom pillow. It was a bit of a bother because I didn't want to leave him at the hotels, so I took him with me everywhere. And I was so worried about his hoof-blushing getting damaged I ended up not taking him out much! >__<;;

36. I've never heard of security guards doing random checks between flights before (after all, you've already been through security). Did he say why he was checking your bag?

Luckily, we're staying in a rental condo, so there shouldn't ever be anyone in the condo except for my family. :)

I'm paranoid about my R. Beyla's hoof blushing too. I keep her hooves wrapped in bubble wrap when I'm not photographing her. :XD:

37. Yeah, neither of the people who searched my bag thought my dolls were weird. I am willing to bed they've seen all sorts of strange things carried along on flights, and dolls are really not something that are dangerous and probably brought along all the time. What makes BJDs different is because they're a bit more fragile than some kid dragging their baby doll aboard.

I don't have any "proper" cases, though maybe I'll have to think about getting some in the future. The reason I brought an SD was because someone in the Netherlands was going to help me string her and fix her up, otherwise I probably wouldn't have brought her and just stuck with the MSD ;) Tinies would be much easier, though I do agree that tinies with blushing, like soom TGs, would be in danger of being rubbed off or something. Definitely a hard case would be good, I think, in that situation.

38. @ Kelaria, we were changing from domestic to international so we had to go though the metal defectors again and they pulled my mother over for a 'random' explosives check (they always pick her!) and decided to see my hand luggage while I was waiting for her. ^^;; I hope you have an awesome trip though!

Nimue looks so tranquil there Duskblue! :D So she's gone back to her legs for good? XD Did you ever decide how you liked Lishka's feet? >w<

39. Bandersnatch, yeah, Nimue likes her land legs. She can't move around too much on her tail and it makes it hard to bother her friends when you can't stand! So the tail goes! As for Lishka, he likes his fox feet, so they stay! :D

40. Ah, that makes sense then! I just hope they let us go through without stopping us! I used to enjoy flying, but it's such a pain anymore! >.< And economy seats are getting smaller and smaller! Pretty soon they'll just make us stand and hold onto a pole.

duskblue, I don't blame Nimue for liking her legs! :) I love the mermaid tail, but I don't want one for the simple reason that it means the doll cannot stand at all. :/ It's really cute and beautiful, but also impractical! I have a half-mermaid doll planned someday and have ruled out using a mermaid tail for that reason. I hope I can find something that says "half-mermaid, demi-goddess of water" without the mermaid tail! :P

41. Kelaria, Nimue still has her mermaid ears that she can wear if she wants to, but she is fond of different looks from time to time :) I'm sure she'll put them back on again sometime soon! I hope you can find your half-mermaid girl! Nimue's story is that she received her legs from a witch, so she is still a mermaid at heart ;)

42. That's awesome, duskblue! :) My girl is the daughter of the Goddess of Water in her world (the same world as Wren & Laurel) and a merman. ;) I wish I could get Iv/Eliv fin legs & arms & hands in the pale blue color! That would be perfect! :whee: I originally planned to get a Taco to be her, but I'm thinking I might prefer the stronger blue of Picro... I just don't think the Picro fantasy parts would work for what I have in mind for her. :) I suppose it would be possible to get Iv/Eliv parts airbrushed to match... but I worry that might be expensive! I also wish the OE Picro head had the pointed ears! Modding could be an option... but modding (even though I'd have someone else do it) makes me so nervous on an LE doll!! :sweat

I have so many doll plans and so many Soom dolls I'd love to have, yet so little funds with which to pay for these plans! lol!! I blame Soom and their wonderful, amazing sculpts that make me fall in love and come up with wonderful ideas that I want to fulfill!! :XD:

43. Your story for her is really brilliant, Kelaria! I wish you could design your own FC to get the doll you wanted ;) that would make just about everyone's day, wouldn't it?? And then just... er... lower the prices while we're at it, so we can all order multiple dolls. Um... yeah.... >.>

44. LOL! I think we all need to win the lottery collectively so that we can all buy as many Soomlings as we want! :XD: Sounds like a plan to me! ;)

It would be so cool to be able to design our own FC dolls!! :D

Maybe someday I will try to get a Picro and some Iv/Eliv parts and have them blushed to match.... ;)

45. I agree completely with the group lottery win LOL

On another note... HE IS IN THE US!!! Uriel should be here tomorrow or Wednesday :D Have I mentioned how much I love Lil Spark for this opportunity :aheartbea

46. Woohoo! I can't wait to see him, Mortifox! :dance

There's nothing like the joy of getting a new doll in the mail! ;)

47. I have not have a Teenie Gem in my hands in quite some time and I miss it so so much. I cannot wait to get him. Its almost like a long lost friend returning home... except with a very different skin tone :P

48. Uriel is an amazing name for him, I really can't wait for him to arrive :)

49. I lurk in the LG thread, so I saw you post them... I am very intrigued!

I also see Lilid in that group photo! ;) And a Feny/Necy and the Musicians of Bremen. :) I just wish there was a super large, high res version of the photo! Even when you click the link the photo doesn't get much bigger. It would be fun to spot all the little details! :)

50. Dark_Shiva144 - Maybe I'm a n00b, but what do you mean by "chess pieces"? That super cute little gray skinned doll with the wings.... who is he???? *-*

51. He looks like a skoll to me. Or it could be that I am just REALLY hoping it's a grey skin skoll/hati release haha.

52. To make the picture bigger, get the picture centered on your monitor then use "CTRL" and "+" keys to make it bigger. To put everything back use Ctrl and - .

53. If that is a skoll, I've never seen such a cute one!! I've never been a fan of hati/skoll, but OMG a gray skin one is SO CUTE! (if that's indeed what he is. O.O;

54. Actually, I was thinking that it looked kinda like Hati/Skoll too! I might be in serious trouble if Soom releases a gray version of Hati/Skoll!! >.<

55. If you zoom in on the large version of that photo, it really really looks (to me at least) like the name tag under the chess piece dolls says 'Hati'. I'm almost 100% sure the chess pawns are going to be a Hati/Skoll SO release :)

56. Death to Soom (not really, i'm just being overly dramatic).... and my bank account (literally) T_T............. I love the gray skin Hati-bat. :...(

57. You are correct, sharnofshade! Darn it, Soom! Not another Hati/Skoll re-release that I'll have to miss! :( Hati is one of my "grail" sculpts and every time Soom does a re-release of them (the previous SO and then the FCE), I haven't been able to afford one! </3 And with my bronze kitty plans still hopefully in the works, I don't know if I could swing another tiny right now... hubby is looking into something new (and expensive) for his hobby as a late b-day present and it's his turn to get something anyway... *sigh*

58. I went to bed with a headache and just laid there thinking about that little gray Hati. My head feels better (due to meds) so I came back here to squee about it. I hope they don't release it for for a little bit so I have a bit of time. I'm already trying to think of a back story for this little guy. <3
