Soom Super Gem Discussion (Basic, Limited & Special Order) - Part 8

Apr 15, 2015

1. This isn't true at all. I can't speak for any of the dolls with the new body + fantasy feet, but I have/have had a lot of the old style legs and they're very stable when standing. Much more than with human feet, to be honest. There are locks in the joints of the legs, so as long as the doll isn't strung like a noodle, they stand extremely well. I've got Sard, Arkose, Sphaler & Monzo feet for the guys and have had Cuprit and Breccia feet for the girls and even the tiny-feet Breccia stood fine as long as you found the center of balance for the doll.

2. You're most welcome, not a worry at all, absolutely ok to post! Should I ever get a request for the mod your speaking of (fantasy leg parts to new Soom thighs) if it's needed, which I hope it's not, I will absolutely come to these threads and let you know what I end up doing. :)

3. Vinsent Wolf: your demon is very handsome :aheartbea

Who is buying the new grey Beryl?

Here is Izzy. Izzy is an original white Beryl. All aesthetics by theFontBandit.

4. Thank you very much :aangel:
This would be very interesting indeed.

Okay. If I spend some time I can make them stand too but I would never leave them without being in range to catch them if they fall down. It is not like standing solid as a rock (speaking of White Rabbit and Benmore).
I just meant that Soomies aren't known to be the best posers anyway. If you use the locks in the joints it prevents them from just colapsing but as far as I know the locks are the same as in the new dolls. Limited to one pose: Straight standing. It is not like they can balance in every pose in their joint's movement range.
I just didn't understood why new type Beryl shouldn't be able to balance in the same way ( may it be good or bad ) as old type Beryl.

I love her expression and the face-up that is really spot on :aheartbea
Wonder what is her character. She looks like she has a very intereesting story to tell.

5. Izzy has the most fabulous pout :D

Of the newer bodies, the only one I had trouble with was the Epidia Fantasy paws--I just could not get her center of gravity right on those. Apparently there is a fix but I sold the feet instead for someone else to mess with.

I'm not getting Beryl for a lot of reasons, but if there were current photos and it was clear what we were getting I would be a lot more tempted. I really love Beryl and I think this color combo is phenomenal. But I would need to see photos of the new body, the old body if they did offer it, and if not--then the succubus parts attached to the new body and some standing poses. I also want to be sure I don't get two left feet, or super thin shoulders or collarbones once they do ship.

It's just too much money for something that might need a lot of "fixing" afterwards.

6. Izzy is gorgeous :D Thankfully I'm safe from Beryl. I can't figure out why they made so many changes after her initial release =/ I similarly think that not picturing her on her new-style boy and hooves is a recipe for disaster!

I am super excited for my tawny SO Heliot so I paid off my layaway super early :)

7. Ugh.... I really wish I could get the new Beryl.... I love her so much but the timing on her is rotten! With wedding things and a ton of other finances popping up I just can't seem to figure out a way to get her.... but I am so afraid that not many people will order her because of the order changes and the body issue and so if I miss her then I will never be able to find her later!

8. My new-old arrival is here! I split off and sold my own Agate outfit and doll this year but I've been missing her! So when she popped up on the market place, I couldn't resist. And she came with her dragon! A very neat addition my own Agate was missing.

Picture of her dragon if anyone is curious: http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k191/panicsong/album/IMG_5436.jpg

9. I can't say that I can agree with this either, but it might just be my personal experiences and the way I balance my dolls. I've had my Soom boys standing on my floor for weeks when I didn't have room for them in the shelves. I even kind of brushed up against them a few times when passing by and my cat tends to walk inbetween them and they never fell. I've also taken tons of photos of them on soft, uneven ground in the forest and they stand just fine -even in walking poses where they're not utiliizing the locks properly. Mine are strung properly with a good, thick string and the joints just don't give out under them. As for the posing ability... I can do a lot of things with them easily, but my point was that the old special feet (at least the ones I have) are very stable when standing -other kind of posing is a completely different matter. Sooms may not be known for good posing skills but I've always found them okay.

As for the new body + new beryl hooves, it's not exactly the same thing. If the legs were exactly the same but just modded at the knees, posing the still doll wouldn't be the same thing because she has a different upper body with a different center of balance AND she's strung differenly. She will never balance exactly the same if she's not on the same body. I don't know how she will pose, but it won't be the same, so once they've modded the hooves it could be better or worse.

The Lady Rose paws you mentioned earlier are not jointed the same way as old Beryl hooves. They're copies of Breccia feet and those are constructed totally differenly. The middle joint isn't the same; it has a short pole inside that stick up to support the leg, very limited movement and no ankle joint. The closest to Beryl out of the new feet would be Epidia and I've heard a lot of people had issues with making her stand. She was the first new limited SG with special feet and they tried to do the same thing as with the old dolls, and it apparently didn't really work well. My friend told me that you just couldn't fit a thick enough string in them to make them more stable because there was no room at the hip and the knot wouldn't fit anywhere properly. She'd fall forward at the hips every time. I didn't try so I don't have any personal experience, so I'm just going with what I heard. But that's why I've been saying I doubt she could stand well if they just modded the hooves a little. The new body is different, so the legs need to be different as well.

10. Only 6 days left to buy her... and still no serious answer... I wanted her so badly when I saw her on the first released day... Perfect Beryl on perfect old body, with a stunning grey color and a new head...
I am totally desperate...

11. However. They still won't change her in a massive way, regardless where they mod the legs on exactly.
Some of the posts read like Soom is trying to scam people with this whole Beryl thing.
Simply don't buy her if you don't feel like it. If you have bought her with the old body offer and you don't trust them that you get the old body: Paypal claim.
If you like on new body but don't want to buy something this expensive without even one picture (which I would see the same way):
don't buy her. But in the end there is still no black magic needed to have Beryl hooves ( without gaps in jointing or whatever else was suggested) on the new body.
There will be reasons why they suddenly decided to sell her on the new body instead and I believe they did because customer requests.
They aren't going to give you new or old body option for any upcoming MD, because this would turn things way to complicated.
That means no compatibility between newer released dolls of the same company and size. This wouldn't make much sense.
Liking the old body is okay but Soom wouldn't have changed it in the first place if they weren't thinking the changes are improvements.
So the only reason for them to release her on the old body again is laziness because you don't need to change the mold in this case.
I would personally feel much more unhappy to be offered an (kind of) outdated product.
*shrug*
That's my opinion.

12. Hum, i guess that I have the right to say that I simply want her the way they offered her in the first place. I am still hoping for an answer from them about this old body and that's all, i don.t need any explanation or advice about what i should or should not do.
My purpose was only to say that I want her badly as she were in the original release. I don't care about the way they will do for the hooves on the new body or whatever. I simply don't care about this body that I don't like. The only way could be joining a split for having ta least a chance to get the romantic head. If I was loving this body i would buy this doll even without pictures of the actual hooves that are offered.

and as Yenna or Mizya I Will simply not buy her if they don't open the option of the new body. I would have love that they never mention this possibility at the beginning of this sale. I guess you can understand the big desapointment.

13. Well, as things are right now, I think they are kind of scamming their customers. Of course, if the customer buys something from them without reading everything properly it's their fault. But the fact is that they're not picturing what they're selling right now and that's crappy business if you ask me. Nothing changes that. They should've pulled the sale and changed the pictures instead of just changing things up half-assedly.

Not buying her if the options don't please you is easy, sure, but I think we have a right to be upset about the changes they made because the order period had already started. And there were people who wanted her as she was first offered. I totally understand Luchan in this. Personally, I think the only reason they changed the body is because some customers requested it and they smelled the money. It was cheaper to offer so more people would flood to buy it. The price of the original release was insane and it didn't include human parts, so customers complained and Soom wen't "Uh'oh this isn't good, let's change it quickly". They add skin tone options because customers request them and it gives them more sales, but it slows down the production, but that doesn't matter because hey, more money. Who cares if customers are unhappy about the insane wait times and the workers are so busy they string dolls up with wrong parts. That's my view of how they operate nowadays.

Yeah, I'll just play with my kind of outdated Sooms and take my business elsewhere. No matter how you justify it, they screwed up here (again).

14. I agree with Yenna about the standing issues. The only one who has given me problems has been Benmore (who has the new body). The dolls with the older body version stand perfectly even without sueding. Benmore has been sueded and wired, and still tends to topple unless my Obsidius is supporting him.

Now, if there's even a question about posing/standing issues, I don't buy the doll. Any slight temptation I had toward Beryl vanished when they switched bodies.

16. As a question, what size wig do you find works best for your Soom SuperGem girls? I have the Sweet Witch and she was supposed to take a size 8/9 according to the company, but all of the wigs I have in that size sit over half her head like a helmet :I Are they just weirdly large wigs, or does she have a smallish head?

17. Sweet witch has a kind of small head, more like 7.5. A wig cap might help that.

18. Thanks ^__^; glad to know it wasn't just me. The wig cap even was not enough I found >.>; I'm gonna try some 7/8 wigs if I can find something I like

19. That's odd (I don't doubt you fishcake, you're always spot on with these things) but Hawley's wig is 8-9 from RingDoll and I think it fits just fine
and Hawley spam, because it's Wednesday
[IMG]

20. I never trust wig sizes specified by companies! Of course the wig companies aren't always accurate about what size a wig fits. This is especially true of very tiny wigs. There are instructions on how to measure a head here: http://audreysdolls.com/index.cfm?PageID=31

21. I think people also have different preferences for what a 'properly fitting' wig is. I keep all of my SG dolls in 7-8" wigs, and feel like 8-9" wigs are absolutely massive, but that's because I prefer my wigs to be very firmly attached - if I can't turn my doll upside down and shake it vigorously without the wig staying on, I consider the wig to be too big. People who prefer 8-9" wigs for their SGs probably value not having to spend 5 minutes working wigs onto their dolls :XD:

22. Girrl : she is gorgeous ! Could we see more about this hybridation ?

23. All of my SG girls wear 8-9inch wigs, but I use silicone caps underneath to ensure that the wigs stay on :) Even my Sweet Witch wears the same size, though her head is much smaller and pretty much swims in the wig ^^; The 7-8inch wigs that I've tried have been too small (at least with a silicone cap, without they might stay on very tightly), so I've settled for using the huge wig since it's quite impossible to find the color and style I want as an in-between size :/ There can be a lot of size difference between wigs from different companies too.

24. I always take 8/9 wigs, the only time I needed a silicone cap was for a Soom braided wig...

25. nancy_schroeder_ca is right about measuring...also wigs are so variable. (My fave are the "stretchy" ones, from any company!)

Girrl, maybe you could run a tape around Hawley's head (carefully, so you don't get parts removed while you sleep ;) ) and post the results? That's better than my "I once put a purple wig on a Sweet Witch head that was about 7-8" method.

26. Gladly! I love, love Love how Hawley came out! Here's another clothed picture of her
[IMG]
Urban Decay

And Links to nekkid Hawley (unblushed and no clothes) pictures on my blog here here and here

Hawley's head measures about 8 1/4, so it's not surprising people can use 7/8 or 8/9 wigs on their Sweet Witches

27. I love the colors she picked out :D

28. Hmmm, I asked SOOM to combine Beryls wig to my SO Heliot order and they said they're no longer offering the service to combine orders. The message was signed SOOM Korea so I'm not sure which representative replied to me.

Has anyone else heard this? Did they post this somewhere?

29. Well I'm not* going to pay shipping twice when they could just as easily include it with the doll I ordered a few weeks ago -_-;
I'm sorry you've having the same trouble:( The wig is very pretty!

30. Ah, she is really lovely ! Thanks a lot ! it's a really nice hybridation *_*

31. Arekushia , I dont give up! I hope they will be nice and put wig and eyes in my order:apirate:

32. Arekushia I had the same problem. My replacementpart was sent seperate. I asked them to ship the wristball with my soon incoming isha doll (big box with More than enough space for a single TINY wristball!).
I asked several times for combine shipping in case the "no we don't combine shipping anymore." Was just a mistake ... But it wasn't.
So I paid extra shipping and got the wrong colour :|

33. o_o that's just awful. Wow. Have you been sent the right colour yet?

34. No ... I wrote them that I am not going to pay extra shipping once more and that they should put the right colouredpart in isha's box.
I am desperately waiting for him to arrive. I hope I get the right colour in his box as I wanted.

35. :( I don't blame you! I hope they resolve the issue for you soon. On the bright side, you must be so excited for Isha!!

36. I am :chibi
I paid him off on 17th june so it can't be too long for him to ship. I am camping the waiting room and the june pifs are already shipping!
I am just so afraid that something goes wrong >~<
But yeah I must be kind of annoying these days.
"I want my Isha!"
became my mantra already :XD:

37. I hope everything will be ok... Soom very often do and say strange things((

38. It's down to the wire and I'm trying to decide whether or not to Order the re-release of Soom's Beryl... I've always loved this sculpt but I'm torn because I'm not particularly fond of grey skinned dolls. Her face and hair are amazing, tho, and the succubus parts fit nicely with the character she would have.(I have a backstory for 3 of my dolls that involve succubi and so she would fit perfectly). It's not the money that matters, I've been good and haven't bought a new doll in 2 years. Help! I can't decide!

39. I'm no help to you, Wynterborne. I really like grey & those gorgeous hoofies & horns with that hair just calls out my name. I'd jump if I could. but, must admit Soom isn't inspiring my trust these days with their disorganization. if you don't love her, pass her by. :|

40. Wynterborne : if you don't like the color, don't buy it, you won't love her... You can find her on the marketplace, maybe ?
However, if you rather have her with 2 heads and a new body, you won't have the 2d head in other color ^^

41. Since you have been talking about the Beryl release, and that the pictures aren't on the new body, I thought this would be relevent here instead of the Little Gem thread. The new Kivi release supposedly has a tail. I do not see a tail in any of those pictures.

42. Layn - You can see tail with a heart at the end of it, it's on third photo from the bottom.

43. [IMG]

Dream come true!!! :aheartbea

(Quickie phone-cam shot -- this isn't her final look, but I wanted to play with the default Amber wig and eyes a little bit.)

I admit, I'm glad I didn't get Beryl now -- because then I would have missed out on one of my longterm elusive grail dolls!

(Beryl is gorgeous, and I REALLY wish that Soom wasn't playing games with her body type/photos/sale period -- I worry that it will prevent future Beryl releases, when the issue is that they changed her release plans mid-stream, and people don't want to buy a doll completely blind.)

-- A :D

44. Ashbet - She is such a beauty. :D

45. Congrats! Amber is one of the most beautiful girls SOOM!:aheartbea

46. Ashbet - JFC, she's gorgeous! Congrats! :D

47. Ashbet : Congratulations again, she's such a stunner :)

48. Whoo Ashbet that is one of the nicest Amber faceups I have seen--the eyes look wonderful, too. Congratulations!

49. Hallo everyone^^
This is my Elle. He is an "Enchanted boy" (like an autist). And he is waiting for his Prince who can wake him up

50. azurra - I'm in love with him! so pale & wistful. with bright red to feed our senses. :aheartbea

51. Ashbet, I love her! I adore those ears. :) I have Amber on a completely human body, she's companion to my Hound. Eventually I want to get her some antlers and a tail made. :)

52. Yay for Amber! :dance She's really gorgeous, Ashbet.

53. Congrats Ashbet! She's lovely.

Azurra, what sculpt is your boy? He looks so gentle.

I got a new lens, so here's a tiny bit of that Breccia spam I owe fishcake! I was helping a friend pack this weekend, but maybe I can actually take her outside after work sometime this week.

55. cowpewter thank you! I am in love with those big purple eyes....:D and I love her clothes! That new lens really picks up the details of her hair and dress!
Brri that is a beautiful hybrid (and dress!)

56. After pointing out to them that their FAQ indicates they will combine orders, I received this reply:

Guess I won't be buying Beryl's wig after all.

57. That is really disappointing to hear. I was debating adding Kivi's outfit to a current order but I guess not now. Thanks for the info!

58. Arekushia I think this hurts them more than it helps them. Why must this company have so gorgeous dolls and so bad service :sigh
At least I know 100% now that it wasn't just a mistake that they made me pay extra shippingfee for my tiny part.

59. Overall, I'm very conflicted as well. I love their dolls but their service leaves something to be desired. ~.~ There's only so much I can blame on a language barrier.
