Soom Super Gem Discussion (Basic, Limited & Special Order) - Part 7

Jul 29, 2014

    1. Buzzingbumblebe: What a handsome boy.

    2. Thank you Ashbet <3
Buzzingbumblebee, ah Mr. Crow! Post more, I want to see this sculpt.

R.Onyx got a new style by me

    3. Alright Adalwolf :). I will post another, this is a bit unfocused on his face, but I really love how soft his expression is in this one. In the promo pics he looked kind of harsh so he is much more handsome IRL :D. I will take lots of pics of this boy, that's for sure. And I love your R.Onyx, really cool style :).

    4. Actually, some natural fibers are shorn off the animal, like sheep. Although some do come attached to strips of leather.

    5. I've had a wool wig that was sewn on a leather cap...that made me feel really bad of course. I didn't know why it was so expensive at the time, but now that I reflect back, it makes sense. It also makes me antsy about ordering wool wigs.
All my fur wigs were cheap and sewn on non-animal-harming caps.

    6. Sayurichii, I can't quote your original post because the old thread is locked, sorry!

Karleecakes's Breccia looks like she's wearing a faux-fur (synthetic fiber) wig -- if you look in the Marketplace, there are a number of vendors who make faux-fur wigs (I like FunnyLori's wigs a lot!) They're made out of the same kind of fake fur that a high-quality stuffed animal or fake-fur collar on a coat would be made out of -- no animal products are involved.

If you buy a wig that is labeled as "Tibetan lamb," and it doesn't say that it's a shorn and stitched or "hardcap" wig (in that case, they use wool fibers shorn from a sheep, but it's not a leather cap and the sheep is not harmed), then it is going to be a leather cap, and it's going to be a real-fur product.

If you buy a hardcap wig with *alpaca* fibers (a couple of hardcap alpaca-wig makers are Eclipse21 and SionDarkness), it is a cruelty-free wig that uses shorn alpaca fibers (alpaca are shorn yearly, it's not a painful/difficult process for them, and they are not slaughtered -- most alpaca farmers keep their animals as near-pets, and shear them yearly throughout the course of their lives.)

Many alpaca-fiber vendors, like on Etsy, will label which of their alpaca the fibers come from (by name), and it's possible to check the reputation of various farms. (I used to do a lot of wool-related crafts, so I've visited sheep and alpaca farms before. Small farms/family farms are your best bet for getting fiber from animals that you know are being treasured and treated well.)

Alpaca wigs are made on a "hard cap" made out of fabric and glue, and the fibers are glued to the cap. (I think some may be made by stitching alpaca wefts onto a cap, but the ones I'm familiar with are glued on.)

      Hope this helps!!

    7. I was on vacation earlier this month and it was too hot and humid to paint my FCE Quartz, hopefully when the weather is better I can and maybe his eyes will be here, but I also need a wig for him and can't decide on which will look good on him.

    8. Ashbet - I love your girl, she's always so fierce!

Sirocco doesn't always like living with housemates, they're not always the most considerate...
      Do you mind?

    9. Ah thank you for the detailed answers! To be honest, as much as I love dolls, I wouldn't want to get animals harmed for a hobby like this :( I can deal with eating meat, but that's pretty much it for me. I deslike wearing leather-clothes and the issue with fur wigs was really confusing. Good to know that you can have both, leather cap and non-leather cap, in which the fur is simply shorn off the animal :) I saw some gorgeous synthetic wigs though <3 Guess it's up to personal preferences which are better?

Ahhh, the crow >//< Somehow, his promo pics didn't really get me. He still seems like a handsome fellow though :3 And I was really surprised by Onix o.o Quite an individual doll, I really like her. You got really creative with her design ^^
Oh and yes, the image of the alpaca wig on your Beryl really helped! Really good-looking. Somehow, I didn't get that warm with most fur-wigs so far because they somehow looked unnatural, with unrealistic color schemes and stuff. But this one looks really good, pretty much like human hair

    10. Teeensy correction - the user that makes the angora fur wigs is eclipse21. ^^

I'm usually lurking in this thread because my only SG (Chrom) I ended up selling, but I gotta ask... does anyone have the SO Obsidius, the tan one? I LOVED the mold when it came out and hoped for a tan version, but as luck would have it when I found him during his pre-order I was in the middle of moving and, well. Wasn't the best time for dolls. I'd love to see some photos of him!

    11. Ah...that's just rotten luck. Actually, I'm also unsure about my address in 3 months time (around the time they'll be sending out dolls) so I actually got Victoria to extend the layaway for me. If I settle down earlier, I'll pay off my order earlier but if not, the extra time will help.

    12. Ashbet is completely correct about the alpaca's. Ours are shorn usually every year - last year they skipped as the winter was very mild and their fleece was still pretty short. This year should be good for them. There are 2 kinds of alpacas when you are looking - Suri's and Huacaya's. The Suri's are silky and look like they have dreadlocks. The Huacaya's are the fluffy ones. We have 2 of each and we use them just as herd guards for our goats.

One day I'm going to get around to making some wigs from their fleece. I also have a couple of angora goats so I've got fleece a plenty to keep myself busy.

    13. That's very interesting Oo Goat guards?
I didn't even knew that there are several types of alpacas xD Here in germany, you usually find llamas, and even those are rarely seen here. But knowing that those animals are kept in a good way and only shorn once a year or so is great ^^ Maybe I'll take a fur-wig in consideration then. Depending if they got the colour I am looking for xD

    14. Their fleece is very easy to die if it isn't the colour you are after.

    15. Eee, thank you so much, hon!! :D

And, hahahah, she does look quite put-upon in that photo -- boys and their long legs! ;)

I'm really glad that multiple options exist, too! :)

(My personal ethical code is that I'll use leather/fur from animals that I eat, so I'm okay with cow leather, chicken feathers, and small/very occasional amounts of lamb hair or rabbit fur, but I would not use any kind of fur from a non-food animal that was farmed or trapped to produce fur. My philosophy is that if I'm going to eat an animal, I want all parts of it to be used and not wasted. It's a decision that can only be made by each individual person, so I completely understand and respect that yours is different.)

And, yes -- it's basically a personal preference as to which types of wigs look best. Artificial fibers can do some things that animal/natural fibers can't, and vice versa!

Checking out all of the options and figuring out what kind of look you want for your doll before you order a wig usually works out well :)

If there are any meetups in your area, it can be fun and informative to attend -- most people are happy to talk about their dolls, and you can see some different types of wigs in person, to get an idea of what they look/feel like.

I know there's a German group, but I'm not sure how far it is from you -- Jany and Kazegoroshi (links to their profiles included) were talking about it in the IpleHouse main thread recently. I think there was a Berlin meetup, but they were also talking about possibly starting one elsewhere. Might be fun to get in touch!

I wonder if the ones you were seeing were faux-fur (synthetic)? Faux-fur can look very natural, but it also comes in bright colors and in textures that don't look as much like hair. Longer faux-fur with tapered ends usually looks better than short-piled fur with fairly even fiber length/density.

Or was it just that they were big and floofy and bright-colored (probably dyed Tibetan lamb)?

Thanks so much -- I'm glad you liked my Beryl! :D

I personally think that alpaca hardcap wigs are some of the most realistic and natural -- they do tend to cost a bit more, though, and since not very many people make them, there's a lot of demand and sometimes a longer waiting period from the more popular wig-makers. There are a number of tutorials available for how to make your own, and I've started doing that -- I still buy wigs if they're beyond my skill level, but I've made a few that I'm really pleased with.

Here are a few more examples for you, on non-SOOM dolls, so I'll just include them as links:

Unoa Sist in brushed-out Leekeworld mohair-weft (non-skin-cap) wig. (All the wigs in the Leekeworld mohair-wig section are stitched mohair wefts, which are shorn like alpaca and then stitched onto a stretchy fabric cap. This particular wig started out as a short sausage-curl style, but I wet it down and brushed it out to make a fine cloud of curls.)

One more restyled Leeke mohair wig, this one brushed out dry, without wetting down the fibers to create curls. And this is what that same style looks like, when loosely finger-combed but largely left in its original sausage curls.

IpleHouse Carina in hardcap alpaca wig (also by Eclipse21 -- this one is more recent than my Beryl's wig, which was one of her first wigs that she made for sale, years ago. The hairline is smoother and has fewer flyaway hairs. Here's another of her wigs, styled by me, on my IpleHouse Ashanti.)

IpleHouse Kamau in homemade-by-me hardcap alpaca wig. (I bought the fiber for this one, which is straightened rather than the natural softly-curly alpaca texture, and made the cap with fabric and glue and plastic wrap.)

This is a homemade-by-me hardcap wig, using mohair locks instead of alpaca fiber. (Yes, it's supposed to be crazy and messy -- he's a mad scientist.)

My Chibi-Unoa and Unoa in skin-cap Tibetan-lamb wigs. (And here's one dyed in unnatural colors.)

A couple of my Unoas in good-quality faux-fur wigs (the more natural-looking type that I described above, with the tapered-length fibers), here and here. This brown faux-fur wig has a bright purple streak added, and has been styled into pigtails.

*facepalm* You are totally right -- I have no idea why I made that typo! Thanks for the correction, I've fixed it in my original post :)

That is so awesome that you have your own alpacas!! Are yours very friendly? I've found them to be more sociable than sheep, although I don't have a ton of experience with well-behaved goats (I've visited a lot of sheep farms as an adult, some of which had alpacas and llamas, and a few had goats . . . but my main experience is being chased around by a billy goat at the horse-riding stable where I took lessons as a child, LOL!!) The alpacas I've met were all very friendly and curious, and always wanted to lean in with those loooong necks to be petted ;)

There's a serious dearth of good-quality doll-hair fiber available, so even if you didn't make wigs yourself, you could probably do quite well selling the washed, combed fiber! If you check on Etsy, you can see that only a few people are selling Suri alpaca fleece that has been processed to the point of being suitable for doll hair, so there's a definite market niche.

Wig-making is a lot of fun, and easier than you'd think if you're patient -- the main thing is to use small clumps of hair and make sure that each one is securely glued down, and to work from the bottom so that glue doesn't get into the fibers as you lay them down.

It is very easy to dye! I use Jacquard Acid Dyes (which sounds a bit dangerous, but the "acid" is just white vinegar that you add to the solution.) I've had really good results with hand-dyeing wool and roving, and I highly recommend this brand in particular.

And now, to veer back on-topic (can you tell that I like to talk about wigs and fibers?), a couple of comments that I didn't have the chance to leave earlier, since I'd been tapping away on my phone at the time . . .

Adalwolf, your Onyx is SPECTACULAR. What did you use to create the raised portions of her scarifications? The Death's-Head Moth on her chest is amazing . . . and I want to know more about that razor-claw-glove! :D

Buzzingbumblebee, I love your Crow -- those ears are so delicately-detailed (I didn't notice that in the Soom photos!), and you've gotten him to do some great male-pinup poses there. I'm looking forward to seeing more of how you style him!

    16. I've been using my parents' address as a shipping address for orders I know will take a long time to arrive, like Aeona's wig I just ordered from Leekeworld. That way even if I have to unexpectedly move next week, I won't have any lost packages... though it's a bit distressing knowing that Pele's wig just arrived at their house and I won't be there to pick it up for another few weeks.

    17. In my case I just didn't want to get tied up in a doll layaway in case there were unforeseen expenses during the move (especially since I knew I needed to get a few hundred dollars worth of furniture afterwards).

The funniest part about the whole thing is that I didn't end up moving until a few months afterwards (and I actually had to re-direct another doll because of it). =/ Ah well, I will own him some day! But I just found the most perfect eyes for him the other day, which is why I really wanted to know if anyone had photos to share. :)

    18. -raises hand out of lurking corner- I have the SO Obsidus. I just haven't had much chance to do anything for the poor fellow between finishing school and lack of funds. I am looking forward to him shaping up into the character I have in mind~ Having had the original mold and now the tan, I love it in brown tan so much more. It's lovely.

    19. Aaaahh peez peez post photos of him! Even blank is fine. Seriously, that guy is complete perfection in tan.

Did the SO come on the new body, or the old one?

    20. Thank you for the advice about wig making Ashbet. I really want to make a wig for my grey Cass so hopefully that's where some of my white Suri will go. My huacayas are brown and black.

Yes alpacas can be friendly although not as friendly as goats. My boys like to get carrots hand fed to them although Salsa is the bossiest one at getting carrots. Our goats are all very friendly and love to be scratched especially my Queen, Honey. She uses her whole face to rub you LOL

    21. Hrmm my SG Sabik has claimed a body - it's definitely his body but drat it's significantly taller than I wanted him to be! He's on the skinny Dollzone 72cm body - proportionally it looks pretty similar to the MA body.

But still - don't you just hate it when dolls don't do what you planned? He's stolen the body I had intended for a different head, and said head is demanding a Dollshe DSAM32... sigh *_*

    22. Okay, I just saw the new special doll Soom introduced: Hornblend the Royal Guard.
First of all, I've got to say that his face is really handsome. So is the wig and definitely the outfit for him. To the centaur-part of his body I can say that I really like it. I've waited long for another adult centaur since Zinc, so I was really suprised and satisfied with him.
But to my mind, he has a big negative aspect for me: The lack of human bodyparts. As much as I like the idea of a centaur, missing body parts make me lose interest. Not only that a centaur doll is pretty expensive, but also I can imagine that you can't really take them anywhere or are complicated in handling/posing since they are just too big. And the romantic head. I prefer dolls with open eyes, so the option they made with most of their last male dolls (Rabbit, Wolf, Captain Hook/Crocodile, etc), which was just adding the option for a different head was just perfect.

I still have my hopes up. Several months passed since they made another doll for Puss in Boots in a human body, maybe they will release some kind of... Pre-enchanted-Hornblend? A doll which represents how he looked like before he got wicked by this witch? With open eyes and a human body... That'd be very nice :) And the option of normal/cs-skin <3 I am looking forward to see additional pics of him, once people got him and customized him :)

    23. Pretty sure that they already released a human Hornblend, and this is just a centaur version special order.

    24. Hornblend was originally released in both human and centaur forms, and you didn't get human parts with the centaur body then either. And it might be worth noting that he isn't a Super Gem, but an Idealian 51. So his human body and proportions might not be what you're looking for anyway Sayurichii. You'd probably want to check the Idealian 51 Discussion thread to find out more. There are photos on the last page showing Zinc (the first Idealian 51 centaur) compared to an Iplehouse JID that might be useful.

    25. He was actually released as a centaur the first time, too. Going back to his original page (http://dollsoom.com/eng/shop/item.php?it_id=1324888700) he wasn't released with human parts back then, either.

EDIT: Whoops, beaten to it by a matter of a minute. XD

I will definitely try to get some photos of Casimir for you as soon as I get some time. Maybe next week once I finish my clinical rotation. ^^

Presently researching whom to commission for a few sets of Indian (a sherwani, preferably) and Persian clothing for him. x3

    26. Someone talk me out of wanting a blue Quartz on the Soom Post MD Event!!! Ughhhh I don't have the money for that! Do you guys think it will be the dragon parts and then also the human parts? That might help me make up my mind for going for him.

Btw, hi, I'm new to this thread :D (I usually hang out at the Teenie Gem thread ;) )

    27. It is probably all the parts that he was originally sold with.

    28. Thanks, Layn :)

    29. I am about to unveil a very special doll to you :)

Teaser preview, because many of you know just how long this project has taken me, and just how much it means to have him home and in one piece, at last.

It's late, my hands are torn to pieces, and I'm about to fall over from exhaustion . . . but HE IS FINISHED.

Anubis, the god, is very, very special to me, and has been since I was a young child. I have *always* wanted to find or create a fitting shape for him to take, and now he finally exists on the physical plane, as I've envisioned him for years. He's a work of art, a gorgeous doll, and a little altar, all in one.

I've been working on this doll project since 2011 -- had to go on hiatus a number of times due to events beyond my control, but I kept coming back to him.

And I got a big box of parts in the mail from FunnyLori today (impeccably packed to avoid scuffs), and have spent the evening assembling him (which posed some challenges, such as having to craft a custom S-hook to keep his faceplate from getting nudged out of true by the standard size -- that's why my hands are wrecked, because I was using *decidedly* improvised and inadvisable tools and supplies.)

I had also previously fairly heavily beveled his eyes from the inside, in order to fit him with 16mm goldstone spheres (and to get them to sit far enough forward that they'd catch the light.) I love that he has actual semi-precious stones for eyes.

Almost all the credit (for everything other than design/planning/hybridization) goes to Lori, for doing an EPIC job on his customizations -- it was a ton of work that had some false starts (the damned sealant on black kept blooming, OMG!), but she stuck with it, and I couldn't be happier with the results <3

He's mostly based on this 2005 painting, although I've had him as a character in my long-running and intermittent "Angel of Death" graphic novel/art project since 1990, and have been avidly drawing him since I was in second grade.

He has weathered two moves (mine and Lori's), two body swaps (Mega Gem to EID, EID to SID), being Franken-dollied together out of parts of four other dolls (IpleHouse Light Brown SID body; IpleHouse EID Magician Chase beast hands, originally white, and IpleHouse EID Shadow Chase beast feet, originally Ebony, both of which were dyed and then painted with Tamiya spray paint and airbrush; and the jackal head and outfit/wig from SOOM Ender.)

I will try to get some actually-good photos tomorrow (it's the dead of night here), but HE'S DONE HE'S DONE HE'S DONE!!!

      *flail/squee/happydance* :D

    30. Ashbet the photo you have of him is amazing. I can't wait to see more.

    31. Agreed! He's Amazing Ashbet!

    32. Ashbet: What a wonderful looking doll.

    33. He's gorgeous, Ashbet! :love Congrats on getting him finished!

    34. Ashbet
      he awesome, like your Anubis
      :D

    35. Congrats Ashbet, he looks lovely. I have to get my arse into gear and finish mine.

It's a bit hard though as I found out I'm finally pregnant this week after 8 years of trying and my first round of IVF.

    36. >.> So... has anyone noticed the SO Chrom they finally released yet?

    37. I noticed. :XD: He's not fantasy enough for me to be seriously interested. I am admiring his lovely horns though, which are being offered separately. It's nice of them to do that so we don't have to buy the doll just to get special parts.

    38. I totally fell in love.. That Soul Tracker styling is beyond gorgeous. I'm buying his outfit and horns at least, that Chrom also looks so fine but I have never needed one though :D But I have also Heliot's Dream Ripper wings 7 sets coming with my partner, hehe yeah.... We.. like them.

Ashbet: Your Mr. Anubis is totally the BEST one I have seen.. His hands look fantastic, Iplehouse / Soom combo = two of my favorites together XD Instant love! And also thanks for a compliment, I used non-permanent hobby glue which can be removed if needed :) (and.. that doll would get all that Chrom stuff too.. and a painted flesh gore scorpion sting :D I'm so excited!)

    39. Joining the Anubis-fanclub: Ashbet, he looks truly wonderful! More pics, please? :3
Oh and whitewolf congratulations for the pregnancy!

I've definitely noticed that Chrom! ^3^ At first I was going to get that Idealian51 Hornblend centaur, but now I think my mind has changed in favor of a brown tan Chrom! At a local forum someone pointed out that Soom has changed Chrom's nose-sculpt and they seemed pretty irritated about it. But I don't think that's much of an issue for me, personally. I myself have always considered the cheekbones to be the best feature on this sculpt. :3 And I love those romantic eyes~ ^3^
Ahh, let's face it I just love this new Chrom...!

    40. I'm for one with the Anubis fan club also XD He is amazingly done! Plus I lurk in here too lol the Mega gem thread never moves and it just seems that in the end the Super Gems and the mega gems should just be one thread. I think it would help XD

On the Chrom's side I am in love with that outfit but truthfully its insanely priced so I am not getting it :( also the horns are way too strange for me lol Anyone else digging those hands :D

    41. Ashbet, your Anubis project turned out amazing :D He looks just awesome~

I'm actually with you on the nose... I do prefer this new one and think that it works better at least for this romantic eyed version, though I do understand the disappointment of some Chrom fans ^^; I've always loved Chrom's cheekbones too! They kinda remind me of a guinea pig, so cute XD

    42. Hi! I'm new to this thread (or almost-new, I think I used to post in the previous editions of it when I still had my first Chrom). I noticed the new Chrom on SOOM's site and fortunately don't like his nose or the shape of his eyes, so I'll be getting a WS Chrom from the MP soon enough :)

Also I'd like to introduce my Dia boy, Michael Whitman, whom I got from a trade and am very happy with:

[IMG]001 by mr show me, on Flickr

    43. I've been staring at my Chrom and the pictures of the new Chrom and I really have not seen -that- much of a difference in terms of the nose. It will be quite interesting to compare the two once the Soul Tracker arrives, though. I'm just shaking my fist at the doll gods that they had to release a new version of Chrom when I had been considering upgrading my current one's body, and including horns (which his character needed). Lmao.

    44. The old Chrom (I used to own one) had a slightly wider nose, and it had a little bump on it, so it was kind of more crooked (Roman nose?). The new one appears to not have that, and to me it just seems narrower (though I'm not 100% on that).

Kind of bummed out they decided to change it (mostly because it's so rare to find dolls with unique noses), but, well, not like I would've been in a position to get this one anyways.

I am excited for this. A lot.

    45. The old Chrom has more of a hooked nose than a Roman nose, I think. I did notice the tip of the new sculpt's nose is rounder, but I really can't decide if it's narrower or not. I guess we will find out whenever they ship! (November? December? I don't know what the normal Soom waiting period is anymore)

    46. Yes, "hooked", that's the one I was looking for. I always get confused in the whole Greek-Roman-Nose-Bridge thing. I did notice the tip being more rounded as well but that didn't seem like a huge deal to me; it's mostly that it appears to have lost the original shape of the nose bridge. It seemed really narrow to me, but then again it's been a while since I saw a Chrom in person so maybe I'm just mis-remembering. I guess you're right though, these are just photos and you'd really need to see one in person to confirm. :)

    47. Quick question for all of you with Soom fantasy boys... where (other than Soom) do you get fantasy clothes for these guys? I have looked around on an extensive search online and haven't come up with much. (The closest I've found is a few HZ outfits that I'm not sure will fit, and a few from Angell Studio) I'm willing to commission outfits, but don't see anyone who currently makes clothes for SG boys in a fantasy style. (unless I'm missing something)

Any tips would be appreciated! I'm trying to decide if I should apply for the outfit on my entry on the lottery or if it's possible to find an outfit for the guy if I happen to get him :) Thanks!

    48. I just sew something for them. My Sard is wearing a beaded pareo. Benmore and Obsidius are getting something similar with long cloaks to go over since their climate is a bit colder. If you're sewing something, use a fat quarter or so for SG size, hem it off, and gather the upper corners into a fastening at the waist. Really big cloth napkins could make nice pareo as well.

I'm not into trying to fit trousers over fantasy feet. :XD:

    49. Minerva, I wish I were able to sew :( Sadly I am not.

    50. Haha, thanks for the new-Chrom-nose-support comment, safir! x'D I was beginning to think that everyone hated him... :atremblin
Well, I guess I'd have the same opinion of they had changed the shape of his cheeks instead. Yeah, a guineapig sounds about right, haha! :3

I wouldn't have minded if they had named the sculpt something else than Chrom, though, if they changed it. I'm a fan of the old Chrom, too, but I really love this new version, even if it would have been labeled something else than Chrom. I good-looking doll is a good-looking doll, no matter what its sculpt name is. Then again, I really love the "typical Soom-nose" that my SG Mad Hatter has, so maybe I've gotten used to that. :)

But yeah, I'm kind of surprised how strongly some people feel about these things.

    51. Well, and I agree it's not something to blow your top over, but if you've been waiting for a rerelease of Chrom, and your heart's set on that sculpt, and you don't get that sculpt (I prefer Original Nose myself, but I have my Chrom, LOL!), then of course you've got a right to be disappointed, especially if you don't know is this a particular situation and Soom may offer Original Nose in the future, or if this is just how Chrom is now...I think if they'd even called him Chrom V2, then people would at least have an appreciation that there was a difference. Maybe something happened to the original/master mold of Chrom, maybe they were asked to change it by the sculptor for some reason, but for people who like their Classic Chrom, I think it would just help to be up-front about it. Ah, it's so nice to have noses with character, so I hope we can have New Chrom and Classic Chrom, but clearly identified, in the future. ;)

      .hlp

    52. 'Hook nose' and 'Roman nose' mean the same thing :) And there's another term, 'Aquiline nose' which I also love because it means 'eagle-like' (referring to how the curve of the nose resembles an eagle's beak). I definitely prefer Chrom's original nose myself - I honestly couldn't work out why this release of Chrom seemed so bland to me when I normally love his sculpt, and then noticed the change they'd made to his nose. I'm glad some people prefer him this way, though! It would be a shame if Soom went to all that trouble and no one appreciated it.

I also wouldn't worry about the original Chrom sculpt being lost or damaged or anything like that. Multiple SOs at this point have had altered sculpts (like Migma's Red Queen release, where she had romantic eyes, or Heliot's Dream Ripper release with vampire fangs), and I seriously doubt Soom are losing or destroying master sculpts at that sort of pace :XD: I think they've just decided that straight human-version SO releases weren't getting enough attention, whereas these new 'variation on the original' releases might be a bit more attractive to people.

It actually might also be a clever response to the recaster problem as well, because now someone who decides they want the lastest SO release can't be tempted by a recast of the original doll as a cheaper alternative, because the SO version isn't just the old doll in a new colour without fantasy parts, but a whole new sculpt.

    53. As far as Angell-Studio, I have a couple of tank tops from them, and they fit the oSG body just fine! One has more stretch than the other, but they look nice. I also have the Faraway collar shirt and the Batwing shirt. Both are by their styles fairly loose, so not great to go by. I have my eye on some other outfits of theirs too. The primary style of my crew is contemporary, so I couldn't speak to any of the fantasy styles in particular.

And I went digging through some old, unedited pics pretending there isn't another Chrom for sale right now, so here's another, cuddling with his wifey. Alas, he is still blank, but he's quite a pretty blank.

    54. Soom's new-nosed Chrom release came at an interesting time because I've been slowly working on my Chrom. Well, a new outfit for him anyway, there's not much else to do with him because he's pretty much complete. But in the past weeks he has gotten renewed horns and new clothing. I even found this gorgeous black+gold fabric from a local store that fits him perfectly. x3

Most of the bottom half of his outfit (pants + the belt with hanging things) is from a Soom outfit, but the top part is all me. The hood actually has holes for the horns (because I think it looks silly if they just sit on the hood) but you can't really see it here. It's not like he could put the hood on even with the holes because of the size of the horns but... let's say he somehow magically does. x'D He's a bit of a weird mismatch creature with parts from 3 different Soom dolls and I love him.

I've also been working on my R.Onyx head that I bought on a whim some months ago. I had it as a second head for my main Onyx but decided that I wanted to do something else with it. I pretty much completed the look yesterday and hopefully I can take photos of her soon. She's somehow really eerie looking and I'm quite excited about it.

    55. Yenna, he looks amazing! I love that you put holes in the hood, I've always thought it looks SO much better but I just can't bring myself to do it >.<

    56. Wow, I *love* his outfit/style!! :D

    57. Post MD Winners have been announced!
Eeep I won the opportunity to buy Agate! So happy! Good luck to everyone :D

    58. I won the opportunity to buy a snow blue Quartz! I can't believe it!!! Congrats to others as well! :D

    59. I've put holes in all the hoods I've made for my fantasy boys, lol. Even if the horns would never fit through them, there's just something about them coming through the holes. xD

Thanks. I should do more with him. :3

Congrats to everyone that won the right to purchase new Soomies! I didn't take part with larger dolls, but did win myself an Asis apparently. :D
