Soom Monthly Doll April (Aries) the Third Land: Beryl - Never Ending Dream

Apr 11, 2008

    1. Congratulations FallenEverdark! and of course, she is breathtaking!:)

    2. Awesome Falleneverdark!
Has anyone had any problems with chipping of the legs or do they seem to be a relatively solid construction? (just curious)

    3. Falleneverdark, be very carefull changing her legs for hoves. Rather gif the limbs an extra layer of MSC.

    4. I didn't get the body blushing, and I'm about to leave for Seattle tonight, so i don't have time to paint the hooves or horns, she'll just be blank hoofed for the next week :3

    5. For those of you who did layaway... how long did you have to wait between final payment and shipping? I paid off my girl earlier this month and haven't heard a word from Soom. My order is still listed as "Before Shipping".

    6. It took some poking & prodding for us. Devotion Demoness & I paid off our beryl & sard that we were trading about 2/3 weeks before we finally got them, and even tho she paid my beryl off first, her sard that I made the payments on shipped first. We both prodded Soom on the Q/A board a lot to get them shipped.

    7. I ordered Beryl on May 6 but paid her off on July 6. She was shipped to me on July 16 - really fast. Sard took longer to receive after payoff about 1 1/2 months. Both were fullsets with faceup, body blushing and seam sanding. Soom did a beautiful job on all aspects. They were well worth the wait. Hope yours comes soon.

    8. I did attempt to paint her hooves last night, and the hoof piece looks good, but the connecting leg part just looks so artificial the way I painted/colored it, I'm not sure how to avoid it. :/

    9. aoyuki_kitsune: That is a "wow" pic of Miss Siren! Congrats!

      :D

      Arkhe

    10. Ha ha I JUST saw this, and I had considered doing a blue overall blushing, similiar to Vega Last Song has, but for now I'm sticking to brown/black/copper as my overall theme color. If this doesn't suit her after a while, I think I'll redo it in blues & greens. :)

    11. Not sure if similar has been posted, but I felt it might be appreciated if not:

I made my final layaway payment (of five) on the 12th of August, and on the 12th I asked when my Beryl would be shipped. I was told "next weekend", so just chased this up again yesterday.

If anyone else is still waiting (I can't be the only one, right?), this'll no doubt be the reason why.

    12. Its good to see that it sounds like they've hired on more people at least, hopefully getting people's dolls home sooner.

    13. That's good to know! I also paid off my Beryl around the same time you did (mine was the 13th of August though), and I'm still waiting. I asked about it on the Q&A last Monday, and they said they would try to ship before the holiday this past weekend, but to understand there may be some delays. She's still listed as "Before Shipping" though. I'm assuming that ours will either ship at the same time, or yours will ship first as you paid off your girl earlier.

It's good to hear that they've expanded their production though! :) I'm just eager to see my girl come home. This is by far the longest I've waited for a doll (though admittedly the majority of that time she was being paid off on layaway). Man... 5 months. Doesn't seem like that long, now that the time has passed!

    14. For sealing Beryl's legs....

Which is better suited to use:

      MSC

      or

      MSC UV cut.

I've never used either. Whats the difference and how would I apply it to her?
Should I just dismember her and spray her parts down?

Should her head & face up be sprayed?

    15. As far as I know, they're essentially the same, but the UV cut helps against yellowing from sun exposure, so thats what I got. I found the best way to spray on is to dismember her, run some ribbon through the holes through her legs, hold it up by the ribbon & spray so you don't get finger prints in the sealant. :)

    16. I don't know how big the string holes in Beryl's part are, but I've also used dowel rods to hold the pieces while I spray... just skewer the piece on a dowel rod, basically (If the holes are the right size to stay put on the rod). Then you can twist and turn the dowel rod with one hand while spraying with the other. For my tiny, I used the back end of my paintbrushes. =P

UV Cut is supposed to help protect against sun yellowing, but otherwise they coat essentially the same, as FallenEverdark said. ^_^ I usually just use the regular MSC, but there are many doll owners who swear by the UV cut.

    17. That probably works well too. I'm a newb and was trying some different methods and all I had was ribbon, so ribbon it was!

    18. Ribbon actually does work really well. I'm just relatively uncoordinated and clumsy so I found the dowel rods easier. Leg-on-a-stick! Ribbon is cheaper though, and usually there's already some lying around.

Kazzii, any word on your girl yet? Mine's still Before Shipping.

    19. Yippee! I don't know if anyone else checks this thread anymore, but my girl finally shipped! *happy dance*

    20. YAY!! :) Congrats!

    21. Woo! That's one heck of a wait! We'll want to see pictures, of course. :)

    22. Yeah... though I did put her on the longest possible layaway, it's been 6 weeks since she was paid off. Sadly, I just realized I'm out of MSC. :doh She'll be arriving without a faceup or blushing, so I really need the MSC to get her all prettied up. It looks like a few US vendors have it in stock, so I'll order it tonight and hopefully it'll arrive soon. *crosses fingers* Maybe I should order two cans, if I'll be blushing her horns and legs too.

Her eyes are also on pre-order at the moment, but I'm pretty sure I have some other 14mm lying around that she can borrow until then.

Yay!! I'm so happy she'll be home soon! Then she can happily hang out in the "doll room" and tower over all my other dollies!

    23. TheFontBandit: I just ordered my first Soom so I'm a new convert reading anything on Soom and discovered your post.
CONGRATULATIONS to YOU on your new succubus. She is even better in real life. HAVE FUN!:daisy

I signed up for the longest layaway for Citrine (Topaz)--but if you had to wait six weeks after your girl was paid, that will be an even longer time. I'm trying to time Citrine in time for my birthday which means I'll probably have to finish the layaway sooner than expected.

    24. My situation has been pretty much exactly the same as TheFontBandit's! 5 month layaway, paid off the beginning of August, and now she's coming home at last :3 Poor girl is going to have her legs stolen for my Shiwoo and her body taken over by my Gena head.

....Now comes the long and painful process of getting those legs painted! @___@

    25. I recommend 2 cans. I didn't finish her w/ the one can I had. :(

    26. snowleopard: Thank you! And good luck bringing Citrine home! Topaz is really beautiful. :aheartbea

Kazzii: Congrats!! :) I can't wait to see both the Beryl "Frankendolly" projects! May I ask what you plan on doing with the Beryl head?

FallenEverdark: Thanks! I'll definitely order two then.

    27. TheFontBandit: I'm not sure yet :3 She's a nice head, but I dunno that she suits me. Might sell her if there's a market.

    28. Awww... well, I'll keep an eye out in the marketplace if you decide to sell the head. I have a little modding I'd like to do to my Beryl head, and it'd be nice to have a backup in case it goes horribly awry. :sweat It's nothing major, just a little reshaping, but still... modding a limited is nervewracking.

I'm really interested to see the Gena head on the Super Gem body, though! I thought about trying a Gem head on an SG, but I wasn't sure if the fit would work at the neck. I think the Gem girls would look gorgeous on the shapely SG body!

    29. Sooo...

I got my shipping notice and tracking number this morning!

      I'm so excited!

    30. Ashbet, she's beautiful! I love the red in her eyeshadow!

CONGRATS, rage_razor! There will be several new stompy-hoofed girls roaming the boards soon, hooray!

    31. The magnets she comes with for her horns are really strong but one of mine is chipped and I worry about it. Does anyone know if these magnets are rare earth magnets or anything? Or are rare earth magnets not as strong?

    32. Not sure what they are, I broke two of mine when their unrelenting attraction made them fly out of my grasp and crack each other in half :sweat. Luckily Soom has the foresight to give spares. I did question Soom about it and they say you can order more magnets for $1.50 each or something, can't remember. Just thought you'd like to know that :).

    33. The magnets for her horns and the Sard's are rare-earth, [neodymium]. They are fragile and can break easy but are strong as all hell when it comes to magnetic attraction, sometimes dangerously so.

You can find these magnets for sale all over the place online and ebay. A chip might hold up and be fine, just don't knock them around and you should be good.

    34. Yeah, you can get them on eBay or from hobby supply shops, no point in paying for shipping from Korea unless they're a really rare size or something.

Thanks for the compliments on Anat, btw!!

    35. If anyone is looking to sell their Beryl's head, please pm me!!!!

    36. Yay! I feel so much better now, thanks guys! I didn't get spare magnets though :/ maybe they started doing that after mine was shipped. (she was an early one)

    37. Don't worry, I didn't get spares either. But I had little to no issues w/ mine I think.

    38. This thread has hit the thousand post mark!

Please start a new thread for Beryl if you'd like!
