Soom Monthly Doll April (Aries) the Third Land: Beryl - Never Ending Dream

Apr 11, 2008

    1. You know MieAga, yours looks more like she's angry & tight lipped than the usual pouty look that Soom's picture give. Did you get Sooms face up, or was that your husbands handy work?
Either way, she looks great. :)

    2. No that's a default Soom face up. It's the hair and horns...Also ours is suppose to look cranky.

    3. Cranky is def right, and it looks awesome. :)

    4. Awww I finally started to form an idea of what I want her to look like & I even picked her name out today. :( Its going to be a long wait!!!

    5. I got my girl today...took her out of the box and shes so loose she wont stand >_<. so thats my project tonight is to restring her, I tried some clothes that i had on her, but her bust is too big for anything I have >_<

I did get a random pair of soom eyes XD

Now to pay off the Boy XD

    6. ishiko just finished working on Caliope's (my Beryl's) face-up. I thought I would share a pic~

She's now working on the rest of her body and will hopefully have her fully blushed in the next week or so. And those aren't the eyes I'm going to be using. I'm still waiting for SOOM to ship them out (along with her proper left arm).

The character for my Beryl is Caliope, a witch, who has the ability to transform into a demon called "Pandora". Pandora is the one with the hooves and horns so there will be a lot of leg changes for photo stories.

    7. She's beautiful and I love her names...they suit her perfectly.

    8. phreekk - Your Calliope is awesome! I can't wait to see her finished body.

    9. phreekk - Wow, the faceup looks great, the beauty spots are a really nice touch.
Can't wait to see her all finished up, I'm sure she'll look fantastic.

    10. Whooah, phreekk, she's gorgeous! And also, you picked the same "second" name as me- my Beryl is in his real (male) form called Pan, but now that he's a woman, he's called Pandora. C:

annina, Emaleth is so pretty~ :3 I'm loving the name you picked for her. But damn those hooves are big! I had no idea that they would be that huge!

    11. Thanx to everyone. I'm so happy with how she looks. ishiko did such a fantastic job :D

      Dust,
That's very cool that your Beryl will have the same name, Pandora. I've always loved the name Pan, I think if my character was male that would've been his "second" name :)

    12. thankyou, i chose that name from a book, Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches trilogy.
often when i am thinking about possible names for a doll i happen to read a book that has the perfect name for her and so it was with Emaleth.
and yeah her hooves are really big, actually i love putting my hand on the underside, it just feels so cute :D

edit to add: i'm loving all the names and characters people are giving their Beryl's, all of them are so interesting and fitting!

    13. Wow, I'm behind! I should check the thread more often... :sweat

phreekk and annina, your girls are both so lovely! It's making me even more impatient for my girl! I still have two more payments to go though... :doh I chose the 120-day layaway plan, heh.

    14. they are all so lovely! im starting to get mad at soom... everyone's getting their lovely dolls, and i ordered mine 5 weeks ago and they havent shipped it yet... im getting antsy! >.<

    15. I just got my girl the other day too! Unfortunately part of her leg chipped, so SOOM is sending me another leg. But here's a photo of my Roxy (that's her human name). There's a few more in the gallery.

Planning on changing her eyes and wig I think. It's a rather big fit.

    16. I'm getting impatient myself seeing all the lovely girls arriving. I suspect it will be a while longer yet. At least it is reassuring to see the owner pictures are as lovely as the studio ones they took.

    17. So pretty, her mystical look!!! I love it, I really can't wait to see more pictures!!!

    18. So, I know Beryl is a super gem, but I am trying to find clothes for her to wear while in her hooved state, and I'm wondering if the Mecha Angel clothes would be too big, or is the main difference between the SG & MA just height? A lot of the outfits soom has for sale for the Mecha Angels I would love to try out on a hooved beryl... do you think they would fit ok?

Edit: I looked at the measurements, and they're a little confusing. Like the fact that the SG legs are LONGER than the Mecha Angel ones. O.o
Anyhoo, anyone w/ first hand experience w/ MA & SG would be great.

    19. Oh man I wish I hadn't missed out on her! Do you think they will release others?

    20. Probably not, that was pretty much the point of the limited dolls. :/

    21. Well I was thinking others with the same body. I understand they aren't going to re-release the same mold.

    22. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the new Soom Beryl parts? Does anyone know if the hooves and horns can fit on any of the Super Gem bodies? I absoloutely LOVE the hooves, but I'm not so crazy about the Beryl head. Any info is appreciated. Thanks all :)

    23. My guess is that it would be easier to just put another head on the body than swap (or find) parts. I do know that the horns are magnetic, though, so they'd be able to work on any head.

    24. ahhhh...magnetic. That makes sense. I actually love their new Onyx (Light/Shadow) doll for the head, but I don't have the money for it :(

Soon hopefully. Thanks for the info :)

    25. Well, that's the dream ;_;

    26. The hooves are interchangeable with normal legs, so yes, any (female) Super Gem body would do.

    27. I am planning to sew lots of things for Beryls to wear without having to remove the hooves first. I just need to finish sewing my wedding dress first. >_<

If anyone has a look in mind, PM me with your ideas and I'll try to incorporate them into my clothing line when it's launched. :)

    28. Random question/request for those that have recieved and are still about to get their Beryls. I am purchasing the Beryl head from a friend and turning it into a boy. I know the Luts/Soom resins match perfectly. But does anyone else have any other white skin dolls in their home to compare the Soom resin too or even other boy bodies to put it on to see? If anyone can tell me or even has pictures I would be sooooo super happy. :)

    29. Lovely, Kearsy!

My girl is finally on her way now too :)

    30. Thank you!

I'm glad your girl is heading home, I love to see all thier different looks! More of these pretty girls need to wander home.

    31. Mine is as on the site, so not so original as yours. I just fell in love with her as they pictured her and had to have her just like that.

    32. Hey guys, the [thread=156652]Soom Waiting Room thread[/thread] in Incoming Dolls is the place to discuss your shipping woes, dealing with Soom and personal doll plans (backstory, mock-up drawings, etc.).

This thread is for discussing the actual doll, presenting your doll once it gets here, adding links to picture you've posted in the Gallery and asking questions about the doll (does she fit X clothing, what eyes have you tried - that stuff is still more useful in it's own separate thread though).

I will now start the process of moving all the OT talk to the Waiting Room, so it'll be a bit of a mess 'til it's complete. I have to bunch them into a separate thread, move them to Incoming and then ask Lizzard to merge them. Just so's you know.

    33. Hello Beryl-owners! I'm getting a Sard sometime (after longest layaway I can manage!), so I'm curious about how you all are finding the posing of your hoofed girls? Do you need to have the stringing tighter than usual? Is sueding or hot-glue sueding important? Or wiring?

Thanks for any insight you can give on this!

    34. Lucky Beryl owners: I tend to go a size down from default eye size, and was wondering if a 12mm eye will fit in Beryl w/out gapping at the corners. Is anyone's Beryl wearing a 12?

    35. OH OH OH!! I has some great ideas, I will sketch one up & PM it to you in a bit here!! :3

And you were so friendly w/ the eyes, I would love to buy from you again. <3

    36. My girls stringing is a little loose, it came that way, but I was affraid to tighten her. She does pose wonderfully, I had no problem getting her to crouch even before I plivered her and wired her, now her posing is just amazing, I can just plop her down to stand, didn't have to fiddle with her.

      I hope this helps.

    37. Got your sketch, we seem to have the same taste! I am going to hurry up and finish my durned wedding dress so I can get to sewing!

Also, I have seen people complaining about how the horns will droop as the magnets rotate. I put a ring of hot glue on the bottom of the horn, around the magnet, and it seems to help, at least when there's a wig for the glue to push against. :) I'll post photos if anyone doesn't quite catch my meaning.

    38. They definitely ship Beryl with looser stringing, and if you're not careful her parts tend to 'clack together' a lot, she's just got heavy feet!

I don't recommend buying the body blushed from Soom. The painting along the joints just can't withstand very much friction and it's nearly impossible to avoid chips and rubs.

I took about 5 unstretched inches off the elastic but she still flops under her own weight. I finally got to the hardware store to buy some wire and am hoping to get a chance to install it tonight. I had originally planned to suede the joints with hot glue, but will wait to decide if I want to stick with the Soom blushing (the iridescent finish is really nice!) or if I want to redo it at some point.

    39. Since she's my first doll I really have no clue about any of this do it myself stuff... I'm def gonna need some help. O.o

    40. That is a brilliant idea. I wish I'd thought of that! I'm working on a separate modding project with horns and have been running into the same rotation issue. I never thought of hot-glue sueding the horns!

Ugh... only five more weeks for my Beryl! :sweat

    41. Thanks! I already had a photo of the glue on the horn, so here it is! :)

    42. If you need to touch up the iridescent bits, there's one option that might help, though it's not totally inexpensive. Selennier makes an iridescent/metallic pastel set. You can buy individual ones also, but the set (I got one) is about $50-$60 at Dick Blick and is rather nice all around.

    43. Thanks for the photo plasticnoodles!! :D

About touching-up iridescent paint... PearlEx metallic powders can also be used, for a less expensive option. They make a nice iridescent white that just adds a bit of translucent shimmer, and the powders can usually be found at craft stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby (look in the scrapbooking and stamping area). Since they're super-fine and a loose powder though, they can be a bit harder to wrangle than the metallic pastels surreality suggested. They can scatter and end up all over if you're not careful! :sweat When used dry, they may take an extra layer or two to get a nice shimmer.

More info in this post: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2751255&postcount=55
You can also run a search for "pearl" or "pearlex" in the Customizing section for them.

    44. I used the pearlex on my beryl's horns and hooves along with pastels and it turned out great, though the table I was working on wound up pretty sparkly too, hehe.

    45. My girl has arrived - and is stunning - but I'm finding that her blushing is prone to chipping... What solutions have people found to protect her blushing? Do I just need to seal her like whoa?

      ~Akiko

    46. She is so amazing! I just love what she is wearing(:

    47. When I got my redone goat legs from Soom I put at least 5 coats of MSC on them. I plivered the lower sections and hot glue sueded the rest of her body. I also put at least 3 coats of satin finish on the hooves. So far no chipping or scuffing.

I'm really happy with her now, and am super excited to get Onyx.

I may go back and wire her, but I'm not sure it's necessary now.

Congrats to everyone who got one. Beryl is such a lovely girl.

    48. Arianne02--I'm so glad you got the chipped paint fixed by Soom and you love your girl! Thanks for all the info... I guess I'm going to MSC my Sard when he comes! And try plivering and hot-glue sueding! :)

    49. My Beryl fullset arrived! I got shipping notice on Friday (Korea time) and she's already here!

No pictures yet, but she really is gorgeous. My only problem is the paint is already chipping. As soon as I move one of her leg joints, the paint there chips. i don't have any of my MSC with me so I was planning on changing to her human legs.

Does anyone know (and could tell me) how to restring her legs? Do I have to take her apart completely? (I really do not want to attempt restringing her completely)

    50. mine is finally on shipping, yeah!!!!!! hmm i hope i have clothes that fit her

    51. If you look at the bottom of her hoof there is a hole with a small s hook. You can take just the legs off if you pull that s hook out.

    52. When my Beryl (finally) arrives, I'd like to paint her hooves & hornes a dark pewter like silver then coat with a pearly shine. Has anyone else worked with metallic looking paints and what would be the best to use?

    53. Congrats on more shipping! Just one more month to go for me...

On the pewter color, those PearlEx powders I mentioned a few posts up the page do come in a dark gray color rather like an iridescent pewter. If you mix them with an acrylic matte or gloss medium they make a great iridescent paint.

    54. I actually have a question about her human legs for those of you who have her. Does she come w/ flat feet or heeled feet? Or both?

    55. Both, FallenEverdark! :)

    56. Sweet! I plan on her being a shape shifter so I actually do plan to use her human legs a bit more than most anyone else is, so this is awesome. :) I can buy SHOES NOW! XD

    57. Thanks! I'll have to make a trip to the art supply store and check them out.
