I'm on the fence. I love his Hyperon like nose.

 

Edgar's face makes me think of what the child of Hyperon and Narmer would look like lol. I like his general features, but his jaw and chin is a bit too V-line for my personal taste.

 

Red like that is also remarkably easy to dye—I did red as my first ever dye-job and since that’s a vivid, very saturated colour, you can dye it over virtually any NS/WS/ probably even orangey tans. It covers well, and you don’t have to fight undertones like you do trying to dye ns/tan/human shades and Grey or pastel colours. So if red+fantasy is what you wanted, you really only have to wait until Soom offers a fantasy sculpt you like on ns or ws

I bought Edgar! Just placed my order this morning. It's so funny because I was discussing in the bjd discord how I really want a big Soom boy but can't prioritize getting one because of the current sculpts, although beautiful, I couldn't think of a character they would fit of mine. Then literally Soom drops this boy that same night and I fell in love instantly and knew what character I wanted for him right away. It was Fate LOL

I also love the clothes (is the coat called a sherwani? its especially beautiful), but I'm already stretching the budget enough as it is. I hope Soom makes more in the future, I'd love to see in more colors.

 

Congratulations! He is handsome, like a mix of Narmer and Hyperon as someone has said ^^ And yes it looks like a sherwani! I was very excited to see it. The necklace was a nice touch too.

I know that people say that the Soom sculpts can look a bit similar at times but they sure are handsome

 

I ordered him yesterday! Although many might say that his chin is too skinny(which is true), and I feel like his face is very skinny overall, I actually quite like him
Im not sure if it is his nose, eyes or mouth, but he gives me a hyperon feel? That why I like him I guess. Hyperon's skinny brother lol

 

I like the skinny chin! It’s not too skinny imo. Jian is the boy with the super skinny/pointy chin. But I am making my Edgar into a character doll so he fits the aesthetic of the anime perfectly for me. I’m excited to get him!

 

He's a nice looking one. I'm not even tempted though. It has to be better than my 3 boys. I want a girl. It has been forever since they had a girl. I would like a white Albany. Come on Soom...... Pretty please?

 

Oh wow, now that you point it out, he does have the perfect chin for an anime aesthetic! What character were you thinking of making Edgar into? Or is it one of your own characters? ^^

 

It's anime! I think he will make a great Aizen Sousuke from Bleach. I'm on a kick where I shell all my favorite anime characters, its what got me back into the hobby.

I started this hobby back in 2008 with original OCs but I don't like making up OCs for the heck of it cause I can't bond with them well, they have to be well thought out and fit into my current world a certain way. But now that there are far more companies and independent artists it gives more options to shell anime characters. I was considering Ize Stage Eros for Aizen but I as soon as I saw Edgar I knew he would fit the Bleach aesthetic better.

 

I have ordered Edgar at the very moment I saw him. I considered buying an art version for a second but then again, I am not into such bushy brows, though he has some vibe in him. Actually he reminds me of RDean's nRei sculpt I already own. They are both beautifully skinny and have similar eye shape, so I guess they will get along nicely.
In my opinion, Edgar is absolutely worth buying whether art version or not ^__^

 

I heard that the older Idealian dolls had “skull sutures”. I’m possibly going to be looking to buy a couple of older soom Idealian scaled dolls and this makes me leery. Does anyone have good pictures of the back, sides and top of the older soom Idealian heads so I can see how deep these lines are? I’m leery to buy the older dolls because of this. I don’t know how I feel about a dolls head being made to look like a skull

 

They're not any different from the new ones now, really. They just have minor jagged patterns on the skull, but back then the faceplate was also cut jagged to match it. Nowadays the faceplate is smooth and the jagged lines are still there as a remnant. If you hadn't have called them skull sutures just now I never would have made the connection lmfao. It just looks like a squiggly pattern to me.

 

I have a comparison. Tei (the tawny head) is from 2021, and Gluino (the ws head) is from the 2010 vampire alchemist release

This is the skull difference, on Tei the lines are carved, on Gluino the lines are where his faceplate actually separates from his headback.

Very similarly to the newer Tei. The main difference is the edges of the faceplate

 

apologies. I guess you can never unsee that now lol.

 

I guess these marks can possibly be a potential disadvantage if you want to make your doll a bold man, but mostly people use wigs and you never see those after you put on new hair.
I personally think Soom is rather creative in their mark system, but as it is said "many men, many minds"

 

Tbh I really like those marks, They are really unique.

 

I helped my friend commission an outfit.

It's going to take 10 months. Is that normal? It is a crazy detailed fullset....

 

I think it is, maybe artists has long waitlist.

 

Definitely agree with the above! Ten months seems reasonable to me if it's a commission and it's crazy detailed. They probably want to give themselves time the time to pay attention to the detail that was asked for.

I know a lot of outfits that aren't commissions but 'made to order' seem to take anywhere from 4-6 months so ten to me doesn't sound like a stretch.

 

Just wanted to add on to the commission for outfit. I have waited for made to order or limited release outfit and longest one was a year and a half until I received it . One of the wig (I got three) was two years wait. I don't mind the wait but I want to make sure I got it so I will look for customers comments to see if there is any issues with the seller.

Xenos is my kind of pretty to look at but the stars are aren’t going to align this month! Is anyone planning on getting him so I can live vicariously through you?

 

I agree! I like him! But I can't buy him!

 

I like Xenos especially the Tawny option but not enough to buy him as I have other doll plans. Waiting for another grey Idealian boy to be released hopefully grey Narmer

 

I agree that tawny option is tempting but I'd rather wait for another sculpt to show up in this color. I guess Ender in tawny will be the most preferable for me for I like his playful character more than Xenos's somewhat sleepy personality.

 

I’m leaning towards agreeing that I’m looking for more “fantasy” skin tone releases! I’m also trying to hold off because my self imposed 15 doll max limit is approaching and… I keep thinking something great is going to come out during a fall event/release or something like that from Soom. Or maybe that’s my wishful thinking for spooky season LOL

 

Oh yeah, the self-restraints regarding buying more dolls... I always use to tell myself of 'no-space' and 'no-money' but after the next release of my favorite doll makers I go into 'oh my I need it no matter what' mode and buy dolls again...

 

@Seyzar you totally get it, lmao! I'm hoping I can wait until at least the fall to go into that mode again. If Soom releases something I'm weak to before then... well I can't be responsible for my actions. xD

Also! I have a general question for anyone that also got a doll from December's Free Choice event: is it normal for some of the ID75 heads to have a head cap rather than a face plate and be attached with a S-hook rather than the brain piece? My M. Phonolus came that way (the brain was still included though) and I was wondering if that's because that head is technically not a regular ID75 one or what?

 

That is an interesting question for I saw Shoshon unboxing and he had the same headcap and a hook (though he had an additional "brain" system in the box). I also wondered why are they.. not that typical I guess?

 

The heads that were originally Megagems have the head cap and S-hook like they did on the Megagem body,

 

As the comment above me said, the original Mega Gem heads were never upgraded, this they still use the S-hook system and are all slightly smaller. I always buy slightly smaller wigs for them than my brain IDs. The main ones are Ender, Shoshon and Phonolus, there are others such as Aslan as well but the 3 first ones I mentioned are the ones that have been reintroduced with any sort of regularity in the ID line.

The release of R Hyperon made me want to repaint my R Hyperon

I was so closed to get the outfit but the design was similar to old outfit I have from them (first release of R Hyperon back in 2014 or 2015?). Beautiful outfit as always.

 

I love the Hyperon sculpt he just doesnt fit any character I have plans for. (Plus after Regulus and another Layaway I have now I cannot spend more LOL). He looks lovely in that grey. I suppose I should be thankful it was him and not Narmer.

 

I just paid off some layaways, so I really shouldn't lol, but I am trying to decide whether I should get him in grey or normal skin. It is tempting that I already have the perfect outfit in mind for him for the grey though... I am waiting for a Narmer release as well, though hopefully not anytime too soon, haha.

 

My Edgar shipped! Only took 76 days! I was for sure thinking I would have to wait more towards the end of the month. Excited too cause a TB order just shipped from Bhiner so he will have some clothes lol.

Can’t wait until he gets here

I lucked out and sold a doll so I could get grey skin R. Hyperon. I was able to order him just in time before the order period closed. So now my vamp. Hyperon head has a body again and a neutral R. expression head without teeth showing when he feels like it.

The only way I could get him was if I sold one so I’m glad it worked out in time. What we do for this crazy hobby. LoL.

 

@fate_xo Your Zak looks ahhhmazing! I really hope they re-run that blue resin looks so good in your photos! (Would combust for a Blue Narmer, Ender or Amor lol).

@PowerAndWeakness congrats on getting the grey skin hyperon! He looks so lovely I cant wait to see pics once you get him if you happen to post some.

I just got a notice that the jointed hands I bought shipped too! (I bought them like 4-5 days after as I completely forgot to when I ordered Edgar). Hopefully they match since Soom can be a bit all over the place LOL!
