I think you may have mentioned before that most Chinese artists matching Soom resin match with 2021 resin which skews yellow (my 2021 amor is def more yellow). I know my 2022 & 2023 resin though is more pink/red for normal and peony. Do you think those artists will start making more pinky resin tones to match what Soom is putting out now? Or stay what they are doing now since they are inconsistent and may go back yellow?
Maybe artists should start offering 2 Soom colors, yellow-toned and red-toned, because Soom is so inconsistent?
It's unlikely that they will change it because of the standard that has been set already and met by many artists. There have been cases where different years of soom colours are offered, but they are mainly exhibited by large companies such as DFH rather than small artists, since most of them must reach a minimum order quantity for different colours, and it is not feasible for them to offer more if the requirements will not be met. Also adding on to this fact, when yellowing occurs, red is the colour that will go first and fade, hence why some companies (such as pygmalion) have stated they purposely go harder on the red dye to help combat this. In due time, those heavy reds will probably fade to look more like the days of yellow soom anyway, so there's not much point in offering the red based colours in my opinion. Soom has been very heavy handed with the red dye especially this year. It's extremely noticeable in Bronze, Tawny and Normal, and you can even see it hitting hard in latest release of Peony White Adonis, where Peony White was previous a very paper white but it's very clearly pink in this release and recent ones in LGs as well.
I was just talking about my previous Adonis from 2016 and how I wish I hadn't sold him, how I haven't even seen him for sale and that I'd give a kidney to get him back only DAYS ago. I feel like I accidentally summoned him lol. I made a noise when I saw him. Right after I promised myself no more Idealians This time Soom really made it a theme right up my alley. Purple, white elegant lacy/elfy clothes. I personally really really love the fantasy style dolls more than the normal boys. Needless to say my finger slipped :') I'm really thankful I have almost all my little ID grails. Now if they would only release Narmer in a tan shade again my life would be compete. I like the Rdean faceup, but I got a little nervous at the price point of it all since the last Rdean faceup I saw in person was... not very impressive. This one was tempting though, but I got him blank with the outfit and all the extra goodies. Did anyone else cave?
Congrats to those that get Adonis. I also love this fantasy version of him and liked him since his original ID 72 release. He's awesome but I'll wait for a ID 75 normal resin release of him (which I know will be years). It worked out for me on this release and that I wasn't tempted because I just had a big car repair. He sure is tempting, though. I still have the ID 75 super long, ball jointed, claw nail hands to put together as I just got them in from Soom. And for those inquiring and curious about Soom's latest normal skin coloring, the answer is still inconsistent and up in the air. As I just got in two pairs of ID ball jointed, claw hands new from Soom and they are both different shades. One pair is on the pink tint side and the other pair is more on the yellow tint side. I sold the doll that one of these were for so whatever one goes with my last boy the other pair will have to go.
I bought him. I snapped and I bought Adonis. I don't even know where to begin articulating the string of coincidences that led me to justifying this purchase as some stroke of divine fate that was meant to be. Just a summary through my feverish enthusiasm should suffice: I've wanted the 72cm unicorn release from 2016 forever because of its resemblance to my character (who, lo and behold, is a unicorn halfling). Searched far and wide for him secondhand to no avail. Didn't bother keeping up with Soom's new events because I didn't think a rerelease was even a possibility, but someone, bless them, saw my looking for post (from a YEAR ago, that I've barely bumped, ohmygod they call this den of angels for a reason don't they????) and notified me that he's back. What floored me most is...look at this portrait of my character. And then look at the rerelease of Adonis. I already wanted the sculpt for this OC but his default customization and everything is nigh identical now! Spoiler In any case, I took this as a sign. First purchase from Soom and I'm reeling with excitement!
Can anyone help me out with some information? So I bought the recent Midsummer Ender release in normal skin. I only bought the human romance head and I'm... confused? His head is so small. It straight up looks like they just stuck the super gem head on the ID body. Like, it's tiny and had the cap and hook system. I think I remember seeing this somewhere, can someone confirm it for me? The other thing I'm upset about is that the head and body are two different colors. I find this unacceptable, but I didn't notice until now. He's been in my possession for a month and kept in the box. I just now really opened him. So I doubt soom will do much about it. Is this normal? These dolls cost so much money and I just don't understand why the head would be a different color or why that's acceptable
Ender was originally a megagem not a super gem. The megagem heads are a bit smaller than the Idealian heads. Many companies are using smaller heads rhat are closer to really human proportions. He may look better to you when he gets a wig. On the color, does he have a faceup? Sometimes the sealent can make the head look lighter.
Right, Megagem, my bad, but I mean not fixed for ID. And no he doesnt have a faceup. His head is just a completely different resin tone.
They do not change the head attachment when they offer meagem heads on the Idealian body. Even thougth it has been a while I would ask Soom about the head color.
Like I said in my original post, I was just wondering if there was more information on the decision, since I thought I saw it somewhere and wanted someone to confirm if they had seen an official post about it or if I'm just imagining things. It's a strange size and decision since it makes his entire head about the same width as the neck lol. If I had known I wouldn't have purchased him. I can take the initiative to contact Soom myself, I just wanted to hear others experiences, thanks
All the dolls who were originally MegaGems never got an 'Idealian' update. So Aslan, Shoshon, Captain Hook, Ender, Phonolus and others have the same head they had when they were MegaGems. It was not enlarged or changed when they moved them to the Idealian line. All the heads from the MegaGem are slightly smaller than those who were released as an Idealian. Consequently, due to the head being designed for the MegaGem line and never being updated to the Idealian line, they use the S hook system rather than the brain system. SOOM has not given any of the MG heads any updates other than moving them to the ID line. You will likely find that he looks better with a wig on - their heads vary by size according to sculpt, and I find some of the ID heads too big, although the MG line heads do err on the slightly smaller side, but not small enough to be of today's average 70cm standards. Regarding the resin colour difference, SOOM is wildly inconsistent and it has been happening more frequently. There are cases where some people got dolls with a severe difference and were able to get it exchanged though QA and AS.
That's exactly what I was curious about. Someone did a comparison once and I remember seeing it, but I didn't know they hadn't actually updated the sizing, which is weird to me. Yeah he's all ordered from the same release at the same time, not a hybrid, so I'm like why the f is his head a different color if it came from the same release? The trick is being able to capture it - it's noticable in person but my phone lighting sucks, so I hope they can exchange it or something. Though I wonder if the new one would just be worse. The last time I exchanged a part that got broken, the new one was completely different and the doll was only two or so months old. So. Been dealing with the Soom inconsistency since I joined the hobby 10 years ago but I almost feel it's worse tbh xD
It's most likely in part Soom's laziness and also the fact that it's extra work and may change the way the sculpt looks. If they were to update it according to the current idealian standards, they would need to change it to apply the faceplate system, which may alter his look (not like this hasn't happened already before, but to a lesser extent). It probably didn't seem like much of an issue with the original ID72 release with smaller shoulders, but the ID75 has probably accentuated it a little. I don't see Soom changing it anytime soon as there's not enough complains about it for them to warrant doing it, because there's a large handful of people who are in the category I am, which don't see it as much of an issue (but it's definitely smaller and I understand your gripe about it). Soom same batch colour inconsistencies have always existed, it'll unfortunately be a hit and miss case with the replacement part you receive, but I hope you get one that's acceptable.
Like I said I'd feel a lot better if his head width wasn't almost the same as his neck. He looks like a potato, but he's a hot potato, so I'll give him a chance. But then again which IDs aren't hot As for the color inconsistency - oh no I'm aware, it's terrible xD, I've been Soomed for a decade now. None of it's new to me, but this is the first time I've had it different for the same doll (and for ID). But I contacted them so we'll see!
I imagine this can happen when the full doll is casted from one batch of resin, but then the head had a bubble or some other flaw, so they had to cast a new one another day. I suspect they don't measure the pigments accurately enough which is why the resin colors are so inconsistent.
This makes total sense and is likely what happened tbh. Soom puts pigment in resin the same way I put spices in my food while cooking xD Chaotic pour and a "yep that seems fine"
Decided to take all my ID75s out to have a look at them. Missing my most important doll rn sigh (R.Shoshon) so not a full collection, and a few on order (BT Garion, Bronze Phonolus) and one out for faceup (OE Phonolus), but it's the closest it'll be for a while. Light Violet V.Hyperon - Grey Hwain - Grey VHyperon - Grey S.Ender Cream White Garion - Cream White Phonolus - Normal R.Phonolus - Tawny Kahn Bronze D.Amor *2, Bronze Amor *2 Bronze Zak - Bronze Tei - Bronze River - Bronze S.River
Not sure if posting this question here is the right thing to do, but has anyone had issues with faceplates fitting well into the back skull? I noticed that on the right side of my boy, the faceplate gap is quite jarring compared to the left side, which is rather seamless. (If this helps, my Soom Sullivan sculpt is from circa the end of 2019/early 2020.) I've actually already sanded down the brain as I noticed some wider grooves were poking out beyond the brain ledge and nearly touching the inner part of the skull. I've checked, and the magnets are in properly and not glued backward (as in not repelling). I also noticed when the faceplate and base skull are removed from the body, they sit perfectly well together and close fairly seamlessly. I'm worried the faceplate will pop off more easily when posing at full height or when we travel out for photos. If this is normal, I'd appreciate the validation! If not, what are some other ways you have fixed this oddity or prevented the faceplate from potentially popping off?
I thought I read somewhere in here, that some of them seemed to have the problem of the face plates not quite matching up. I don't know what years tho. @Setsura, Wow. That is an impressive collection. Loved seeing your Garion and Hyperons. Since I'm posting in this thread, I would like to share My Dokkebi Garion named Asher. He's part of my Gargoyle Clan.
Like the string extending from the brain on the head rack is stretched too far out in the front, you mean? That was my next guess… but does that mean I need to sand down the back of the brain to bring the string back more?
Yes, the F is facing forward, I double and triple checked with YouTube videos and the manual. Let me see if I can get some photos hosted and uploaded here…
It doesn't need to be a completely smooth and seamless fit, but there shouldn't be a gap either. It difficult to help without seeing the problem. The neck shouldn't be getting in the way. One of my boys is stiffer to put on and I find the angle I try to wedge it on matters and gets a closer fit. Other than that, there shouldn't be a problem with the brain.
Here is the right side of his face plate with a noticeably larger gap along his jawline and head seam: Here is the left side of his face plate that seems to be sitting more in line and without what I think is a pretty jarring gap: The right side doesn’t look so bad in this photo… let me take it from a couple of other angles.
Sorry about that, just got those links fixed. Let me know if you see what I mean with the two sides of the face plate.
Could you take a picture of the brain in the head back. It feels like it may not be going back far enough into the head back.
Oh, @Bren!! Asher is so beautiful! This color scheme is perfect, I think he's my favorite Garion I've ever seen
Thank you for your sweet words. I'm so tickled, that you like him. I know he may not be everybody's cup of tea, but he was a grail for me for years. I was very pleased how he turned out. Angel Toast did an amazing Job.
@Bren - I agree, the faceup suits him so well. I really like the blue accents, especially in his lips, somehow it just makes them even fuller such a beauty
@OmitIdentity My 2022 Edgar has a similar issue (looks more like the left side though). I just use a headcap which helps keep it on fairly well.
How wonderful!!! Congrats. So handsome boy Hyperon is the sculpt that I love the most!!! And yours is sooooo dam handsome I got two, one Vampire and GS the other scared face, like yours, NS but I've changed him to a Bronze body. Had to do skin match, now need to redo his faceup. I got my first idealian restringed and I guess it elastic tension got not the same on both sides, however It's still better than before when he was no longer standing upright.
He is so handsome. What resin color is that? I want a fantasy color dokkebi judan idealian doll, but I couldn't enter due to technical issues in the recent raffle. One of these days I'm going to buy a fanasty colored idealian or maybe I will try out resin soul
He is gray skin. And thank you. Sorry to hear you couldn't enter the raffle because of Technical problems. It's always fun to add Fantasy colors to your resin crew. I would have love to add a Blue one, but man, those went fast. But I can't complain 'cause I love my Dokkebi.
I have just a regular blue one. The limited ones of 20. I rehomed it because i would rather have a purple or a different sculpt.
I don't think i have one called dreaming of blue. All I have is now a peakswoods blue grey for sale and ddd blue doll. I don't think incan post a link for sale. I think that is against the rules? Yes, my doll is a beautiful shade of blue. He looks better with the new owner than he did with me, since i don't play with my dolls. The blue was beautiful, but I couldn't get myself to like the face sculpt. @Bren I would love garion. Mine was a zak. I think Idealian has the prettiest shades of blue so far in my collection. I thought Peakswoods blue grey wasn't a shade of blue to my liking. Blue resin seems to be hard to get shade that I like. It's either too dull looking or too bright. I thought the Idealian blue resin was just right.
Sorry, my bad. I meant I was dreaming of seeing a Blue Garion again. Not the color of it being Dreaming of blue.
I just placed an order for Gluino, I am beyond happy that he was re-released this month. This doll has been my holy grail of dolls for years. I went for the vampire face, it's the one that caught my breath when I first saw him.
I’m new to the hobby, and just started my hopeful collection by preordering a few dolls, but I do regret that I cannot fit one of these beautiful idealians into my budget right now. I absolutely adore Vampire Guilo, and hopefully he can fit into my schedule within the next few months. I have just the project that would be perfect for a Guilo Vampire Basic.
I got a shipping notice for Hyun ordered on 9/2. I can't wait for him! The Phonolus parts that I ordered before Hyun are still stuck preparing shipment though.
My shipping order from a few days ago never updates and I was getting anxious, but my ender just arrived today!! I've been low and high key wanting him since I saw him 10 years ago and and now the surprise head is finally home
Is anyone excited about the new girl? I actually love her and want to get her, but I can't find any information on what the body looks like/poses like and she seems kind of like a nightmare to dress. Not a lot of info out there though. I promised myself I wouldn't buy non standard sized dolls anymore but she's so cute
She's gorgeous! I mean, as far as what's available now, I'm wondering what sizes they would take. What do you normally buy for her? I'm already having a hard enough time dressing my SD16 Volks girl since that size is just not as popular anymore and looking at the measurements these ID girls are pretty big xD
I am boycotting soom until they start offering the familiars with their dolls!! IDoll West Violet Hwa-in and now Narmer?!?! They're so cute together #IncludeTheCutie #BringKiriBack #JusticeForOli
