Soom Idealian 51 Discussion

Mar 3, 2011

    1. when looking at times you don't count ALL days.... only business days from your order to today

      From and including: 2017년 1월 2일 월요일
      To and including: 2017년 4월 9일 일요일
      Excluding Weekends and public holidays
in South Korea – Nationwide. Change Country
      Result: 67 days

depending on how long they say it taks for a doll (usually shown in business days) you could have a ways to go? I used an online date calculator that accounts for korea's holidays ^^

    2. Somebody in the Soom waiting room thread said it was inclusive of weekends and holidays, which I thought was weird as they don't work everyday (at least I assume they get days off). I'd assumed that I likely wouldn't see him until sometime in mid/late May at the earliest. I'd hoped that being an Xmas kit, I'd get him sooner rather than later but.....

    3. i can't say about SOOM specifically but the companies I've dealt with hav all listed time as 'business' days unless it notes it specifically... and business days would make more sense since ordering at differnt times of the year there can be a lot less 'work days'.... first 1/4 of the year is fairly bad for the number of 'off days' in Korea O_o.. In the iple waiting room we have links to the calculator's and holiday lists... I'm a bit anal about this lol...

    4. Yes, when I initially counted the days, I didn't include weekend/holidays. I am not going to complain if he arrives sooner than I expected. It would be really awesome if he did come soon-ish as it would be awesome to be able to bring him to DN this year (and maybe be able to find him shoes there). I'm currently waiting on two full dolls and the body for a 3rd *sigh* although only 1 is from Soom.

    5. It switched over to *before shipping* today.
As long as he makes it here before 5/18 I will be happy :)
I want to take him to convention, last year I took full size Gluino and my arm about fell off he was so heavy lol

    6. I don't wish to disappoint you, but "before shipping" for Soom just means the order is fully paid.

    7. Yes, my order (which was paid in full the day I ordered) has said before shipping since Jan. 2nd *sigh*.

    8. 'before shipping' is essentially the same as saying "order in progress"...

    9. And I just got an email in my inbox saying that my boy has shipped. Really excited about that. Tracking doesn't work yet so it likely hasn't been entered into the system yet. Hopefully, the evil Customs won't hold Rhas-Khan hostage for too long (or nail me for fees *fingers crossed*). Tomorrow (April 11th) would've been 100 days inclusive of weekends and holidays so I suppose they're on schedule.

    10. Oh I know what it means :wiggle
I usually do layaways so I have learned to be patient lol

    11. Yep. Tracking now says that my package has departed the Seoul export office. I'm assuming a 2 days to at least get to Canada, where I think he'll enter the country in B.C. and spend however long in Customs there (hopefully he'll zip through and escape any fees). Then another couple of days to travel across the country to me in Ontario and finally to my door (or get a delivery notice to trot my way over to the post office, which is next door to the building I work in). He'll probably arrive in Canada just before the long weekend so I'm not anticipating seeing him until maybe mid-week next week.

    12. I picked up Rhas-Khan today after work. He's just gorgeous. Stringing him was easier than anticipated although I needed to shave down the inside edges of his headback with an exacto knife in order for his brain to fit in his head. But he's all together now and wearing some temp clothes until I can make him some. he needs a face-up but that'll likely have to wait a month or so as I'd like to be able to take him to Doll North in May and don't want to rush the face-up artist.

    13. Congrats !! He's wonderful and really looks good in grey.
I can't wait to get mine but he will be without a faceup for a bit while I decide on his look lol

    14. He is very handsome! There is a front to the brain. There is a little F on the front.

    15. Thanks. The grey is lovely and nicely feeds my addiction for that colour. I did see the little F on the brain and even with it facing the correct direction, it wouldn't go in. The surgery was fairly easy and, fortunately for me, I was confident enough to do it. His seams are fairly minor although there's a few places where they're a bit more than I like. I might see about shaving those down if they really bother me.

I can't wait to get him painted, but unfortunately I need to if I want to be able to bring him to Doll North. I'm pretty sure the face-up artist could do it in time, however, I'm also sending her another head to paint and do a minor ear mod and that sort of time frame is just not reasonable to ask of someone.

I was surprised at how thick his waist and broad his shoulders/chest are. The shirt he's wearing in the photo belongs to Kijika, a 58cm doll, and fits him perfectly. However, the belt that goes with it... can't close the snaps. I've also got some arm warmers/bracers and while I can get them over his forearms, they barely go up his upper arms. Comparatively speaking, he's quite the beefy little guy which is awesome.

    16. They are beefy guys! I'm glad the surgery was easy! I've never had a problem getting the brain in! I am loving the grey! I may have to add a grey guy to the group when they offer one!

    17. I'd never seen one in person before getting mine. When I first unwrapped his thighs from the bubble wrap, I had a moment to wonder if they'd actually sent me the wrong size Idelian *laughs*.

I think if he'd been assembled by Soom, they've have realized the issue and quickly corrected it without me being any the wiser. When I'd initially tried to get his brain in, the resin had creaked alarmingly and I was afraid of either breaking his skull by forcing it or not being able to get it out if it managed to go in.

I didn't have the chance to check his colour against Sleet (Soom Auber Storm Sprite in grey) last night as it was after 9pm by the time I was finished assembling him, finding him some temporary clothes and taking a dozen or so pics. If they're not the same grey, I'd think they're very close if anyone was curious. Sleet may have some mellowing since he's from the original 2011 release, but I'd be inclined to say not really since he spends most of his time in his box (as do all my dolls) when I'm not doing stuff with him as I totally lack display space and have Idiot Cat.

I have a serious addiction to grey resin (well, coloured resin if I'm being totally honest). Rhas-Khan makes 6 grey dolls in my collection. Additionally, I have 2 black dolls (I dyed, 1 black resin), 3 tan dolls, 3 green dolls, 1 blue doll, 1 purple doll and 1 red doll.

    18. I just finished a coat to go with Cuba's kilt. Here he is as Jamie Fraser with FID Grace as Claire (from Outlander).

    19. Wow, the FID girl is a wonderful match for him!

    20. Hmmm, if the FID girl looks so nice with these boys, would an FID guy look equally as good? Anybody have pics available of an ID51 with an FID boy?

    21. I don't have an Idealian51 human type, but I did take a picture of my FID guy with Hornblend centaur type.

    22. @sno4wy thank you!

And god damn it all to hell! That Iple boy looks great with the Soom guy. Why can I see myself trying to shoe-horn in an FID into my doll family? Why must the doll companies lure our wallets into destruction for more of the gorgeous? My only saving grace is that the order period is over, I've no idea who one of these gorgeous boys would be and I'm so very broke right now.

    23. @AnitaS - Thank you!

@Iron_Dog - Here's another comparison with ID51 Cuba and an FID guy. This one is Leonard. Sorry if I seem to be stuck in the Highlands. I'm Outlander-obsessed.

    24. @vermont chick No apologies necessary. Men in skirts can look very good. They look darn fine together. I am soooo lucky the order periods are not coinciding with my having cash *laughs*.

    25. Finally finished 2 outfits for Rhas-Khan today. I like one better than the other but I'm also still in the tweaking of patterns stage so....
His pants are made from the sleeve of a top of mine that no longer fit me and his jacket is from a little scrap of velvet I had hanging around forever in my fabric bin.

Quick question of other ID51 owners, do any of you have issues with getting your guys arms to be positioned straight out parallel to the ground? I think its the weird shoulder piece that keeps me from being able to position his arms like that, but perhaps I'm doing something wrong?

    26. The only way I can see to get the arms out parallel to the ground is to either flip the arm upside down (or one click from upside down) and straight(ish) out, or start with the arm out front and parallel (think "Stop! In the name of love!"), then move it to the side. Neither one is perfectly parallel, but better than the droopy arm you get from going from parallel to his sides, to parallel to the ground.
And yup, it's that insert piece in the shoulder that keeps it from going out straight. You could probably restring him with that piece out, but then there would be other problems.

You know, I have a piece or two of red velvet lying around... oops, nope, I'm getting a death glare from my guy. I guess not. ~_^ My guy wouldn't look anywhere near as good as yours does. Love that wig!

    27. That is a straight up weird way to design a joint then since the idea behind these dolls is their "human" posing. Last time I checked, I can hold my arms straight out parallel to the ground without needing to flip my arm upside down. I thought about taking the part out, but also figure it would likely lead to other issues.

The wig is a Monique Reeva in off-blackbrown. I love the look of it but it's sooooooo pouffy. I'm tempted to see if I can re-work the dread to be less thick individually but I also don't want to screw up the wig. I have 2 mohair wigs that I don't use and may see what happens with them if I try and dread them. If it works out okay, then I'll buy him another wig and give it a whirl. Or the dolly gods could totally love me and I'll find something perfect at Doll North in a few days. Hope spring eternal, right?

    28. I hope you find the perfect wig! He really looks great with all those tendrils around his head.

iirc, the clicky arms and iffy posing was what kept me to only buying one of these guys. The big ones were fussy too, and I ended up selling all of mine. But my little London has stuck around. Because he's just so beoooooootiful!

    29. I find I'l put up with a lot to get the look I want/need for a character. The arm thing is annoying, but I'll work around it. He stands solidly and he's a dead handsome fella so a lot of forgiveness happens *laughs*.

    30. In case anyone needs oxfords for their boys, I got these from BJDivas on etsy and they are very nice and fit perfectly!

    31. So... I ended up buying another ID51 *head desk*. I bought a London The Moor from Buff and I just love the way he's come together for me. He's got the default Soom wig, too, which I adore. He's wearing one of the outfits that I made for Rhas-Khan (ID51 Gluino) and basically claimed it as his, which is fine as Rhas-Khan wasn't really feeling the love for it.

This is Ondraeden, God of Fear & Nightmares. He's also wearing RS Yao horns in their dark tan, which worked out smashingly for his character.
[IMG]Ondraeden 1 by ID Locke, on Flickr

And that discussion up thread of the FID boys looking good next to the ID51 boys? Yeah, I'm dead as I believe I know who his partner is and he's one of the FID's *sigh*. But, that'll need to be a next year purchase.

    32. @Iron_Dog - he looks so good! I have London, too. He's a handsome man. The horns are a perfect match.

      :D :candycane

    33. Aischylos (the RS Yao head on a Ming body) can't really wear his horns as his wig is waaaay too flouffy. Seriously, the magnets aren't strong enough to hold them securely through his wig. I was surprised at how well the horns work for Ondraeden. The scale is very good and the differences in colour between the resins are fairly minor (fully disclosure, the horns are blushed default from RS).

I was quite taken by this guy when I saw his sales post. He was not a planned purchase at all which is my standard MO when it comes to doll purchases. But I'm really glad I got him and I think his look suites the arrogant god that he is.

    34. Wonder if someone here can help me! I’ve been visiting the English site for Soom idealian a lot in the past few years and everything always says “sold out”. Is there an ordering schedule or a specific date when they release? I love their look, and someday I’d like to buy one, but everything I see is sold out... help much appreciated!

    35. I don't think they have a schedule. It seems to be one of those things where you need to really stalk the site and pounce when they do throw something up (if it catches your fancy, of course). I believe the last released Idealian was a 70/75cm boy and I want to say that was fairly recently, maybe a few months ago.

It is entirely possible to buy these guys in the MP although they only seem to pop up infrequently there. I bought my Gluino direct from Soom as the Xmas kit 2 years ago and I snapped up my London the Moor from the MP last year. There is currently an ID51 for sale in the MP....

    36. Ah, I see. I’ll have to stalk more closely. I really like the aesthetic so I’m sure I’ll get one sooner or later!

Your Ondraeden is really cool, btw!

    37. Thank you. Ondraeden was the MP purchase and I was pleased as punch to be able to get him. I have a real thing for coloured resin (especially grey for some reason) and the Soom ebony is lovely. Possibly if the one in the MP wasn't priced as high as he is, I'd be very tempted to get him to add Soom tawny resin to my collection of grey, ebony & green Soom guys.

That pained squealing you hear is my wallet protesting the very thought of yet another doll purchase right now.

    38. Soom has done really well with posting idealian teasers to Instagram if you want to follow them there too

    39. And there is usually discussion on one of the threads here on DOA also.

    40. It's easy to miss them. I love the latest one. Sherlock. but, 75cm! good grief.

    41. I'm still a bit bummed that I missed the Damphir when he was offered as an ID51 due to lack of funds.

    42. Has anyone seen the new Zak? I've been waiting for Soom to finally release a new idealian 51 but I don't really like this one's sculpt.

    43. He's nice enough. military conqueror stuff not my thing. I'm not in love with the 51 body. If it's the same as my London, I can live without another one.
wish I could buy just the overcoat. my guy could use that. :daisy

    44. Zak is kind of okay but I'm not in love. I don't like how they painted his mouth--too much brown between the lips. I know I could buy him blank and paint him myself, but I'm getting tired of having to do that with dolls I almost like, and sending the head to an artist is cost prohibitive. Several of my guys (51 Cuba, FID, Raccoon) could wear the overcoat, but I don't do military so the rest of the outfit would have to go. Not worth the hassle of either splitting an order or else selling unwanted parts after receipt.

    45. You have good points! I think you have talked me out of Zak.

    46. I don't like his theme or faceup either. I'll be waiting for the next one and see how it is. I just want one, haha.

@petiteballerine - What don't you like about the body?

    47. Something about him just isn't doing it for me, which I'm glad about. Well, my wallet likes that A LOT.

I like the ID51 body for the most part except for the weird shoulder... peg thing that prohibits you from extending the arm straight out to the sides of the body. Fine, you wouldn't really stand that way in real life for the most part, but it bugs me to know I can't make my ID51 guys do it. I love how buffed they are but I'm partial to that aesthetic so.....

    48. Thanks for that info. Would you be able to show me a picture of this peg thing please? I really like how buffed they are as well, but I do care about the mechanics as well.

    49. I like the muscular body, but the engineering seems too basic to me. They've never (that I know) updated this body. His (tan London) chest joint does nothing. it should let him bend a bit (slouch) so he can sit more realistically. an extra thigh joint would be nice, too. But, he's so darn handsome, I forgive him. ;)

    50. Thanks for this info too.

    51. The peg thing is internal at the shoulder ball. I can't take a shot of it by myself as I need both hands to pull the arm out of joint (and keep it out of joint) to expose the peg and at least 1 hand to operate the camera.

They aren't the most natural of posers an do tend to a little stiffness but I really like the look of the body sculpt. They can still photograph VERY nicely if you're a bit patient and creative with camera angles. This is Ondraeden, Elder God of Fear & Nightmares. He's a London the Moor wearing a pair of RS Yao horns in dark tan.

    52. @Iron_Dog - Thanks for the further detail. I remember this guy. Ondraeden is so cool. Would you say his right arm in this photo is max raise height? I really like the body sculpting too. I think I wouldn't mind getting at least one idealian 51 for gallery at the least.

    53. No, his arm can go higher than that. It was more a shot to show the body sculpting than arm posing. I can take some pics tomorrow if you like. I was about to head to bed when I saw the notice as it's nearing 1am in my corner of the world and 7am is going to hit me wicked fast. I don't think I've posted any of Rhas-Khan (Gluino romantic head) here either so I'll throw him in, too. Rhas-Khan is the God of the Abyss.

    54. I thought the ID51 had single jointed knees. Did they change that?

    55. London in the dark resin is one of my favorite releases, love seeing him posted.

    56. I was super lucky to be able to snag him 2nd hand. I have an absolutely deadly weakness for coloured resin (grey and black in particular). I have several tan boys from several different companies. I was pleasantly surprised at how close a match the Soom dark tan from the London release is to the RS dark tan from several years ago.

    57. Thank you. I definitely would like to see more photos of both your guys.

    58. Here's Rhas-Khan, God of the Abyss. He's a Gluino with the romantic head. He was from the Xmas kit last year.
[IMG]Rhas-Khan, God of the Abyss by ID Locke, on Flickr
That is the max positions straight out to the side for his arms. They will not go into a direct 90 degree angle from his body due to the peg sort of thing in the shoulder ball.

[IMG]Soom ID51 shoulder joint by ID Locke, on Flickr
This is the weird peg sort of thing in the shoulder joint. I suppose you could leave the peg thing off when you string him but I'm not sure how well/poorly that would work with regards to posing and such.

    59. @Iron_Dog - Thanks a lot for these photos. They are very useful. Rhas-Khan looks really cool.
