She is here already! I ordered her in May, and she arrived yesterday, September 2nd! it helps that this release didn't have faceups (because of covid) and I opted for the Romantic Eye human version with just the heel feet as an "extra". Soom has made some great changes in how they do the certificates--now there is an original certificate for BOTH the head and the body, and the doll's name is on the certificate, making it much easier to keep track of which certificate belongs to which doll. The Q-code also makes it harder to have a fake certificate. The owners' manual, (which you can see behind the certificate) is all updated for the current bodies, too. There are new boxes--they are supposed to have less paper but they look good and don't feel thin at all: The head now has a RFID chip in it that can be read by an rfid reader, it's under where the old Soom stamp used to be. The body has one too, but I wasn't willing to take her apart to look, since she is strung exactly how I like my dolls and I didn't want to mess with it: She came with almost no seams and with perfect resin--she is pink now, which I know from experience will fade to a pleasant NS. I feel like she was cast with care and love. I will put a faceup on her today, wish me luck I am not super great at painting but I am anxious to sew for her and I want a face before I do that. Thanks for taking a look at Amber!
Oh, beautiful Amber! Congrats on bringing her home! I've only ever owned male Soom dolls, I see that yours has an S-hook instead of the brain resin piece. The brain thing is cute, but kind of a pain compared to a conventional S-hook. In the picture of her S-hook, is that a little brain sculpted into the inside of her head? Cuz that's an awesome detail if that's what it is.
Amber is a Super Gem, so they have no brains, unlike the Idealians XD. I guess that could be a very tiny brain, but it's actually just a resin button over the RFID chip (you can take a scanner and wave it over it and the chip has the information about the doll name and date and that it's a Soom doll.) Thank you so much!! This size is smaller than the original Classic release, so it's easier to handle (I think). The original was around 64 cm and this one is closer to 60. And thank you so much
@Nightshadow Thank you! Soom has made some good changes, I think--they probably should have made the certificates like this years ago, but I guess that was a management decision The dolls are my favorite, still.
Amber with those ears and romantic head is amazing to me. Even without the faceup she looks so delicate and eerie, she is one of my fav from SOOM. Congrats! Also, I didn't know that SOOM changed their logo? I kinda miss their white boxes, but this new color is so cool and pleasing to the eye!
Congratulations! I'm surprised she has an S hook instead of the resin banana but the new chips are cool! Glad all the paper work is updated too!
Thank you! Yeah, I think the logo change was a 2020 thing--for a long time they had the dark blue boxes for the Super Gem line, but they did seem to scuff easily because of the dark color. I did get a temporary faceup put on her today, though knowing me it will be on there for years, lol. And thank you too! Amber is so pretty!
You know, I didn't even think of that (the s hook instead of the banana). I guess maybe because she is a headcap doll instead of a faceplate doll? I like the faceplates but I can see how they could be easy to bump off if the magnets got tired Thank you too!
Thw ears are very cute. I love Soom romantic looks, too. Interesting that they put chips in their dolls now.
The ears are so fun, even when I am trying to put a wig around them I'm hoping this will help discourage some recasting, at least keeping the recasts out of the legit market. Thanks for peeking!
What a pretty lady! And the QR Code and RFID chips are amazing ideas to combat counterfeits, I hope more companies follow this idea.
I hope so too, though right now I am just glad the names are on the certificates, such a simple step but so helpful! And thank you!
Nice to see another Amber around these parts! So a question: since you didn't get any fantasy parts, did your girl come half or fully strung? Mine was half strung with the fantasy parts in separate baggies on top, though I don't blame them for not trying to fit those giant hooves in that carry bag.
Mine (human only) came fully strung, but every fantasy doll I have gotten has the fantasy parts separate, probably because they take up so much room! Even the ones that were Free Choice ones with no human legs had parts-in-bags. I don't mind because I have at this point strung literally hundreds of dolls for myself and others and it's nbd, especially as dolls need restringing after a while anyway if you play with them a lot. And congratulations on the fantasy parts! I do love them but I found that over time I ended up wanting regular legs...because I love shoes
