If dying is done right, it looks great! My Aymeric is actually dyed, though I don't think you can see his body in the picture. The first time I tried to dye a doll each piece was marbled and splotchy and a different color from the last piece. Which is why I had my Aymeric dyed by a professional. I don't want to shell out the money for the body and the work when it's a total gamble if it's going to work. But if that's what I have to do it's what I will do. Still gotta find a good sculpt for his head though.

Thanks! I love them so far, though looking t him I wish I had gotten Aymeric dyed a bit less tan/orange. Oh well. I do have grand plans for them, but my crafting skills need to catch up to my ideas lol.

I recently started playing this again! I'm Tyrannosaurus Wrecks on Cactaur. Started as a bunny wife, but I fanta'd to lalafel because tiny is home xD Maining Dark Knight. I originally played back in 2015, but stopped right before finishing the ARR MSQ (dear lawd, that trek was painful lol). When I restarted recently, I whipped up a brand new character and have gotten through ARR and Heavensward at this point. I'm glad the storytelling has gotten better, and it's a little less "spend 5 minutes running here. Talk to 1 NPC. Run all the way back to the first NPC. Repeat."

Now I'm tempted to make my lala a doll, and probably will at some point lol. I've seen several lala dolls that I love ^_^

Hello again all. What do you guys think of Volks coming out with the twins?

 

I really like Volks' recent XIV dolls so far, although I think I like Y'shtola's sculpt more than the twins'.
Absolutely love the twins' outfits tho, they came out pretty nice. I hope this means they'll eventually do all of the main scions.

The release of Y'shtola is making me really want to shell my Mi'qote WoL as a doll too. Everyone's WoL dolls are really cool!

 

The twins are super cute! I'm delighted to see more FFXIV DDs, I really liked the Y'shtola one.

I am actually not a fan of the FFXIV Dolfies. They look way to soft for their characters. Outfits are awesome but the sculpts are just wrong to me. I am just going to continue my plans of making my own lol.

 

@lividdarkangel I understand what you mean. Besides, designing your own is fun too! As you say, you can pick a sculpt that you feel better represents the character for you, and so on. In my case, the dollfies just don't fit with my preferred aesthetic, so I'm going to continue customizing mine

 

@Sanar My friend and I are actually going to comission a 3d printed sculpt. She is going to have Alphinaud in msd and then I will have Alisaie in sd. Already picked out her body too. That's another issue with the Dolfie version; she is to big to fit in with my other FFXIV dolls.

 

@lividdarkangel That sounds like it's going to be a fun project! I've been considering getting a 3D printed head for another character (not FF related). It just kinda bothers me that if I do that, he wouldn't be considered on-topic for this forum. I know I could still post here in Brigadoon but it wouldn't feel quite the same

 

It is! I'm really excited about it. That's a good point though. My Alisaie's head won't be on topic but her body will. She won't be a banned doll though, so I should be able to post her. Pretty sure that's the rule. Doesn't matter though, I don't post very often. And if I do post her it'll be here anyway.
Anyway. My friend has a wig maker in mind, and it'll be my job to find a faceup artist. We will probly comm their outfits together as well so we can get their matching one from ARR. It'll be expensive and take a while, but it'll be worth it.

I personally find the faces too child like. They're supposed to be 15-16ish, elezen are just incredibly short until they're big ol growth spurt, but the faces are not particularly childish. Very unlike these new iterations.

But I've never been fond of volks faces so this is certainly a biased opinion.

Tried out the free Xbox beta today with my fiancé! Currently am an Elezen archer on the Leviathan server. Enjoyed it way more than I thought I would! Haven’t gotten too far into the game yet (only about to be level 5, haha) though so I’ll have to see if it’s something I’ll keep continuing or not later down the line.

(Side Note: My first pick for my server would’ve been on Aether in Jenova, if not for my fiancé’s online buds starting earlier in the day and picking for us essentially, since we want to eventually be able to play as a group. )

Hello! I play on Aether (Faerie) and have been playing for around 5 years! Friends originally tried to get me to join them back when HW's benchmark was new but I was too busy and couldn't commit at the time! But now I have a wonderful FC and attachment to my Viera WOL haha! I main WAR and DNC, and like to raid with my static!

I am looking forward to the twins' dollfies but am not sold on them personally! I have the Y'shtola but do agree that the faces are rather soft for the characters!

 

I just retired but am thinking about going back. I was an fc leader on diabolos for a long time, ‘Astran Renardi’ leader of FML (forgot my lunch) lmao it was some of the best times ever and I made some very long term friends!

 

Soooo what does everyone think of the new jobs? I picked up Viper on my main, tried to understand the action descriptions, got very confused and just went back to levelling up my Lala alt

 

Tbh, I haven't touched Viper nor Picto! I heard Viper is really fun tho and I've been seeing a lot of Pictos in Frontlines! I ended up going through the MSQ as a Bard main though, my first love haha!

 

I keep forgetting this thread is here. So on new class topic I like both Viper, and Picto so far, played around more with Viper in PvE content, and more with Picto in PvP where it seems a glass cannon.

I main Dancer, Dark Knight, Reaper and Sage in PvE, and in PvP mostly I'm a Dark Knight (sometimes mch and poke picto as said) My fav Front Lines map is Shatter/Ice. Where I'm a very defensive tank and tend to stay around those hitting ice to try and protect em. I have even gotten brave enough to make call outs if no one else is doing it, or I see something on map others missed.

I'm shy in games and barely social in MMOS, but jack of all trades with things in FF14, I do a bit of everything save raids. Raiding triggers my anxiety to no end so only do the ones plot forces when it forces them. Save for the handful I can do unsyked with 3 or 4 friends. (And before asked, I have no idea why I can go into the Fields of Glory with a team the same number of people and even do call outs. Yet entering a raid with 8 to 24 people turns my blood into ice water and freaks me out to no end.)

Also after years of playing I am finally half way through Shadow Bringers, and my god the story has slapped me. My girlfriend only gets so much play time so we crawl through plot together in her limited time. So snail's pace on plot has led me to having two main alts and 38 off ones. I've been lucky as not to have spoilers this whole time.

And though I do not have a doll that is a shelled WoL, a few of my characters/dolls have FF14 alt reality versions so technically I guess, right?
I actually kind of want to 3D print a big Dark Knight style sword for my dolls. Double so as ordered my fav Scion so will have a Sage in the house.

 

Preordered the twins, im so excited to see them Personally I don’t really care for playing DPS also but I loved Dawntrail and I’m not mad with the return of crunchy cards for AST. Looking forward to this savage tier and scrambling to gear my SGE to shield heal it lol.

 

Never been in Frontlines or any of the PvP areas. I do hear it’s fun but the thought of PvP play just scares me. Tried it once or twice in WoW and in FFXI but was utterly useless and got killed pretty quickly! I’m just not quick enough and my reaction time hasn’t improved as I’ve gotten older either.

The fact that I have bad anxiety and tend to panic is also why I mainly play DPS rolls, the responsibility of healing and tanking brings me out in a cold sweat even though I mainly tanked on PLD back in FFXI. Healing I have done at low lvls and even during Syrcus Tower (years ago when the towers were the only 24 person raids) where at one point it was just myself and another healer left to deal with whoever was still standing. Although I did it I was a bag of nerves afterward. How do you healers keep a level head? It scares the bejesus out of me as I’m so afraid of messing up!
Wish I was more like hubby, he just goes into whatever duty on whatever job and isn’t phased at all.

Really need to stop putting things off and get into the Dawntrail areas, sooooo want an alpaca mount!

 

@Blodeuwedd "How do you healers keep a level head?" I have no idea, if you figure the answer out let me know. XD My one friend has an alt that quote "heals by the power of spite." I guess my healing style is pure panic.

I only play Sage for heals, I have tried the others and hated each of them. However Safe's hurt things to heal and keep the shield up slicked and my brain gets it. That said my healing style is chaos and panic and I have rules. I will only heal for parties friends or for parties of NPCs no PUGs. The idea of healing a stranger and being judged wanting is a nope. (part of why I don't raid too much presser to be good when I am a casual.) I also like Soloing content as Sage keep myself alive. It's also weirdly fun in PvP put Kardia on myself to hell with other people lets go fire lasers at the other teams.

However I do not and could not main healing that yeah no too much goes on with healers. Though a good way to learn is taking NPCs through dungeons, that helped me a lot between that and two maning PotD with a friend I learned more or less how to Sage and feel good enough to heal at my lvl content with my friends.

I picked up Sage on my main but found it confusing and haven’t even completed the initial quest xD
Maybe I should try running it through a lower lvl dungeon with NPCs to try and grasp the basics.

You’re still braver than me regarding PvP!

Yeah I’m very much like you, I like to solo most content and use NPCs or unsynchronised with hubby if possible regarding duties. We used to do most things as an FC but over time plus thanks to some major drama several years ago people drifted off so there’s only a handful of us left and due to country time differences (European server) or work schedules those of us remaining are rarely all on at the same time. We’ve stayed with the FC though as we fought hard for it, we know that we’ll support each other if it’s needed but also it’s a safe place where we can go about things in our own time with no pressure.

You know, I’ve never actually done PotD. We started it but didn’t get very far before things imploded FC wise. As most of those friends have since left the game due to life hubby and I have just not really bothered going back in it. Probably should though. Same with maps. Group map runs were such fun. Aah the good old days!

 

@Blodeuwedd Oh you can two person place of the dead if you go slowly so you should give that another try with your hubby. Same with Heaven of High. One of my best friends and I go into it alone together all the time for fun.

@notmelkor if I was wearing a hat I would take it off to you my dear! I honestly have so much admiration for decent people who willingly play healers and tanks at higher level and in tough situations. No patience however for rude elitist tanks or healers or elitist players in general though. They usually find out pretty quickly that while my playing may not be the sharpest my tongue certainly is!
Never done a ‘savage’ anything, I’m just not hardcore enough, my reflexes are too slow and I panic far too easily, would just be a liability. Hell I hardly ever survive Leviathan extreme or Titan extreme (always panic with the bomb rocks) so I think ‘savage’ mode is not for me lol!

 

I might need that. I'm still stuck in m1s. Just trying to tank my lil heart out.

I have managed to get enough to buy the Alisaie doll so now will have both the twins. X3 (I ordered Alphie day one, he might be the favorite don't tell his sister.) I should make WoL props for my handful of dolls that I have also made into FF14 alts while I wait on my fav NPCs to show up.

This is my main although just now I’m levelling my Lala alt. I’ve just received two tan minifee Ingrid heads (OE and SP) that I purchased on the mp with the intention of making a doll version of her. When I first changed her appearance from Hyur Highlander to Viera she was a darker skin tone so the doll is a kind of nod back to that. Planning on trying to needle felt the ears but we shall see.

Congrats @Tippetarius, they’re not my particular taste but I still understand why. The twins have always remained favourites of mine, along with Tataru, and it has been so interesting seeing their personal journeys during the various storylines.

 

@Blodeuwedd Your main is very pretty, but I am a sucker for Viera. (I have so so many bunny boys)

My main is just a Hyur, however he's an else world version of one of my all time fave O.C.s/RP characters I've made. So felt human was the closest option to my beloved vampire.

Hubby has one but then he had everything at lvl 90 before the expansion and already has all his gatherers, crafters and several jobs (Reaper is his fave) at 100! He’s gone back to playing Diablo IV just now for a bit. I’ve played that too, quite like Necromancer but I quickly miss all the FFXIV stuff. Same with ESO, it was fine for a while but it just lacks that certain something.

Kyle looks soo cool in both forms, looks like nothing phases him. Heck he even makes specs cool. I like this guy!

Viera here! I main dancer and I use to main as a paldian. After the WoW crowd moved in and demanded wall to wall which I don't do, I said screw it and became a dancer and never looked back. Then again, thank goodness for the Trust system when it came out that's when I made the switch. I only play PLD when I'm with friends that don't expect the w2w. Not to mention, that's delicious floor tanking. Hmmmmm dirt naps

Oh and I play on Zalera. My user handle is Royal Paine.

 

It’s funny how the WoW crowd have impacted a FF mmo twice now.

The first time was WoW’s initial release. FFXI was hit quite badly by that. On the plus side I many of the assholes went to play WoW so it removed them from the game but unfortunately it also reduced player numbers so drastically that FFXI struggled to function the way it had been designed, primarily as a team based game. It was not built for solo play. Biggest impacts were during the hours European and US players were active, you literally could be sitting waiting for hours for a party even as a healer or tank. Although they did try to redesign things later to make it more solo friendly it still wasn’t really and nothing could reclaim the glory days. Heck I even went and played WoW for a few years myself as that’s where some friends and colleagues were but still missed the calm of FF.

Now they’ve, as @Haruka said, impacted FFXIV again both positively and negatively. While it’s always good for MMOs to have fresh influxes of new players unfortunately the bad elements can quickly spread misery and spoil things for others. This is what has happened, the Elitist attitudes, rudeness and lack of player discipline that was very evident in WoW (and one of the things I hated about that game) has come over with some of the players in question and while that ruthlessness can be advantageous I imagine in really hardcore raids and dungeons it makes life miserable for those who just want to enjoy their game and then end up being yelled at and bullied for making a mistake or not seemingly doing high enough dmg even in basic dungeons and even if it’s their first time. There’s so much I don’t do and miss out on because I can’t deal with these nasty players.

Sorry for the rant but it just ticks me off so much. Also I’m not tarring all WoW players with that brush as I know there are many really lovey people who play that game, I’m just annoyed with the fact that the bad players were never disciplined and that both unruly and elitist attitudes were if anything encouraged which given what eventually happened isn’t surprising. I also know rude players (and people in general) are everywhere.

 

Hi all! I play a Viera named AJ Crowley on Coeurl. I've been slacking a bit in the game recently, but I main GNB and RPR. My in game (and IRL) spouse, Aziraphale Fell, have been attempting to get a medium house recently and I have a casual group who runs maps and sometimes mount farms on Saturdays.

Alright, this is one of those things that might be too specific to work (niche within a niche), but with the semi-recent addition of Oceania as a travel destination for ALL players regardless of their original physical DC, I wanted to make a Discord community so people can coordinate in-game, get together, run events, etc! (of course, people are welcome to coordinate runs/events within their own regions as well- this is just a suggestion so we can have players from NA, EU, JP, and OCE all playing together!)

I have 3 characters on Adamantoise. My main is an Au Ra girl, and I have a Viera boy, and Miqo'te girl (who was previously also a viera but i got tired of the fem emotes being super duper bland). I try to play at least once a week or so, but honestly tend to solo as much as I can. I'm not antisocial on purpose lol, I just had a couple bad experiences so I get anxious. Currently stuck on a trial with my main, because those are forced multiplayer, and I've been too anxious for it lately.

I recently finished a doll of my Viera Dancer boy, Joker Brambleberry
He's yet to have a proper photoshoot, but I'm happy with how he turned out.

I'm also considering making Aymeric but I've yet to find enough clothes I think work for him lol.
I'm also waiting on the Alphinaud DD. I think he's super cute and when I saw the twins in person in Japan I was SO GLAD I didn't miss out. Love him so much.

There are no words to express how much I love your bunny boy! I've been wanting to shell mine but just can't find a good sculpt. What sculpt is your boy? I also adore his wig. Did you make it yourself? Its the same style my boy has.

I shelled Aymeric! I am struggling to find clothes for him so its a legit concern. Finding anything at all that will fit him is proving impossible much less anything accurate or in character. I've had him a few years now and he still has nothing that is truly his. Even his wig isn't accurate. My maim miqo girl has a whole outfit and accesories, but poor Aymeric.

A friend and I actually commed the twins' heads. Alisaie for me in SD and Alphinaud in MSD. The Volks ones are awesome styling wise but their faces are so out of character I can't get myself to love them.

Ah, that's what I'm afraid of for poor Aymeric! Estinien at least has couple outfits. (The one in the pic that I thought he'd feasibly wear, and one thst looks close to his white outfit) for some reason it's hard to find anything that even seems like something Aymeric would wear :/

It's so interesting to see everyone's opinions on the DDs. I personally do think they look quite like them but I can also see how others might disagree. I guess it just comes down stylization and what people personally think is "accurate" (ex. I saw someone else's Estinien once and they chose a sculpt that to me looks NOTHING like him but they were happy and that's what matters. I'm sure some would also look at my Estinien and think the same.)
I also saw them on display in person when I went to Japan, and I really do love them and think they look like the twins but to each their own lol. I'd love to see your fan versions tho! I absolutely love seeing peoples' interpretations of the characters. There's an amazing Urianger over on Tumblr

Aymeric's body is just a weird size. He is 71cm, but very slender. If you want to see him I have link to a pic of him and Luna, my main, on that page. I was gonna put him him in a nice blue suit but I tried 3 before giving up.

My issue with the DDs is that they look way to soft. Like...Alisaie is a very feisty girl and they made her look very soft and sweet. Same with Y'shtola.I do think their face could make those expressions, they just never would. But I agree! As long as people are happy with their dolls that is what matters. I'm sure most don't agree with my design choices for Aymeric. And that's ok. That's what this hobby is about. Ooo I would love to see that Urianger. I think there's a just breathtaking Zenos out there somewhere too

 

And dye lol. I've made quite a few wigs over the years, so it was not my first rodeo lol. It was only my second attempt at that type of hairline tho, and i'm glad it came out way better than my first. I looked at A LOT of cosplay wig styling videos. I did not make his ears but honestly i'm thinking i likely could have now that i've seen some videos. I commissioned them from ineffable_mimi on insta (used to be called 9amflower)

I'd love to see him! And I promise it isn't just his size lmao. If I were to make him, he'd only be about 62cm at most, and when I look for clothes that size, there just isn't anything that seems Aymeric enough, even if I was to lean a lot more modern! It's baffling, honestly. I'll probably have to break down and make him clothes if i pull the trigger on shelling him.

I can see what you mean, if we're talking about expressions specifically. On that front, it just comes down to what Volks thinks will sell better, including appealing to people who don't play. Interestingly, I heard quite a few people bought Y'shtola despite not even knowing the game. At the end of the day Volks is a business just like any other, and a softer, more neutral/sweet expression typically appeals to more people than a feisty one. Especially for female dolls in Japan, which is sad in its own way. If you look at the faceup options for the Dream Choice, there is a stark difference between the "female" heads and "male" heads.
There will likely be some people who bought the dolls and will change their faceups to something "more fitting." I saw lot of people do it with other character dolls. So i look forward to seeing that as well, tho I personally plan to leave Alphie alone since he already looks the perfect amount of kind but slightly smug in my eyes. Lol.

Apparently some people who did the deposit are already starting to get their emails for the rest of payment, but i have no clue if I'm in wave 1 or 2 but god the wait is killing me. So close, yet so far.. (I want him to sit next to me while I play lol. I may even make him a little controller)

Haha it's because it's such a cute design! Fwiw my boy only has that hairstyle when he's "off-duty" (i'm not playing msq), and actually has a different one the rest of the time.
(Lore-wise, he's a magical boy. I've made up a whole AU about this in my head in which all the scions are magical girls/boys lol)
