SMASH! 2015 - 8th and 9th August

    1. What SMASH! is

      SMASH! is the abbreviation for The Sydney Manga and Anime Show, an annual celebration of Japanese pop culture through a variety of activities such as cosplay, panels, games, BJD and Maid Cafe.

    2. General BJD Workshop

      Date: 8 August 2015
      Time: To be confirmed
      Room: Art stage

      New to BJDs? Do you have trouble changing your doll''s wig or eyes? Does the prospect of re-stringing your doll fill you with dread? Join us at SMASH! for our Introduction to BJD Workshop, where we'll explain all the BJD fundamentals, conduct a re-stringing demonstration, and provide tips and tricks about caring for your doll.

      What to bring:
      Participants do not need to bring anything. However, if you have any questions about a specific doll, please bring it along, as well as any other necessary items (e.g. string, eyes).
       
    3. Parabox Faceup Workshop

      This event requires pre-registration to participate.
      Due to the limited amount of heads available for this workshop depending on the number of registrations, seats may be secured by lottery. Click here to register.

      Available Seats: To be confirmed
      Additional seats are available on the day for people not requiring a Parabox head, for participants who can bring their own doll head.

      Join us at SMASH! for our Faceup workshop sponsored by Parabox where tips and tricks to painting beautiful face-ups for your doll will be demonstrated.

      Materials provided:
      - Parabox head
      - Liquitex matte medium (please note that all heads will be pre-sealed)
      - Limited soft pastel colours
      - Watercolour pencils (black, white, brown)

      Participants will be required to bring the following:
      - Brushes
      - Eraser
      Optional:
      - Acrylic paints
      - Extra Soft Pastel colours
      - Extra Watercolour pencil colours
      - MSC Sealant (please note that due to its toxicity, MSC cannot be sprayed within the grounds of SMASH!)
      - Make-up sponge
      - Cup of water
      - Your own BJD Head

    4. Photography Competition

      Think you’re an excellent BJD photographer? Pit you skills against others and show your photography skills and creativity with the BJD photography competition!

      THEME: Sport

      PRIZES:
      To be announced.

      RULES
      · The photography must be taken by you, and of a doll you personally own. Where there is more than one doll in the photo, at least one or more must be your own and you must have permission from the other BJD owners to submit your entry into the competition.
      · Photo editing programs (such as Photoshop, Picasa, etc…) may be used to enhance your original photo, but please note that this competition focuses on photography, not photo manipulation.
      · You must sign in at the BJD display on the day of SMASH!, if you are not signed on by the time we announce winners unfortunately you will not be eligible to win a prize.
      · Remember that SMASH! is a PG-event and all submissions must conform to the Code of Conduct.
      · Photos should not be older than 12 months.
      · No text on the image please.
      · You may submit a maximum of 3 photographs to the competition.

      Technical Requisites:
      Images should be saved in High Quality (75% or higher) .jpg format.
      Images must be at least 200 dpi.
      File size per image should be no larger than 3mb.

      DEADLINE
      1 August 2015.

      HOW TO ENTER
      Attach photo(s) unzipped/zip/rar to your email.
      Title as “BJD Photography Competition Entry”
      Body should have your:
      Full name, email, mobile number (to contact you on the day of SMASH!)
      If you have no mobile, keep yourself communicable by email at least.
      On the day of SMASH!, sign in at the BJD table

    5. Crafting Competition

      THEME: Sport
      Get creative and show off your doll's athletic talents! Create a sports item, whether it be a ball, tennis racquet, basketball hoop, or even recreating a famous sportsperson's outfit.

      PRIZES:
      To be announced.

      HOW TO ENTER
      · Send a work in progress photo of your creation to [email protected] before 11:59pm 5 August 2015.
      Title as "SMASH Crafting Competition entry"
      Please include your full name, Mobile number and a 50 words or less description of the item you are creating.
      · On the first day of SMASH!, approach one of our friendly BJD assistants with your creation before 2pm.

      RULES
      · The object can form part of an overall outfit, but will be judged on its own.
      · Machine made components (eg: pre-fabricated flowers, bows, fastenings) may form part of your item, but the design and creation must be yours.
      · Judging will be based on originality, overall aesthetics, use of the theme, and display of crafting techniques.
       
    6. BJD Olympics

      THEME: Sport
      Let's get physical! Show off your doll's athletic prowess in the ultimate sports competition. Categories will be divided into 1/3, 1/4 and Tinies. There will be various Olympic events held throughout SMASH! weekend, with prizes to be won in all three categories. Further details to be announced.

      HOW TO ENTER
      · Email [email protected] by 1 August 2015.
      Subject as "SMASH BJD Olympics"
      Please include your full name, mobile number, name, size and sculpt of the doll you are entering, and a photograph of your doll so that we can identify it.

      RULES
      · Only one doll per attendee can enter.
      · You and your doll must be at SMASH! in order to participate in the Olympic events.
       
    7. Less than 3 weeks left until SMASH!

      If you haven't yet registered for the Parabox Faceup workshop, please make sure you do so before the convention by clicking on the link in Post #3.
