Because I'm a masochist who started with 1/12th dolls, I've been having a lot of trouble doing finishing sculpting on my doll's faces, I keep losing eyelids, and ears and sometimes even the sides of the head will just start to warp as I try to add on to them. I'm using premiere clay and ideally I just want to start working in some kind of additive that will combine with the clay so that adding clay or sanding work won't leave seams between the pieces. I mean the scale I'm working on is literally so bad that I'm getting eye strain every time I put a serious effort into working on them anymore, and then my hard work falls to pieces as soon as I try to make any new changes. I'm considering adding/switching to magic sculpt, but I'm worried about how well they'll blend and if it will ruin any of the progress I've made. I don't really want to start over entirely, but it seems impossible to finish as it is. I think maybe I need to start using a primer but I'm not sure how well I'll be able to add more clay.
With the scale. I would use either hard wax, apoxie or other types of epoxy clay. I would let the existing clay dry/cure and add new detail with epoxy modelling compound. It will take longer to finish as you have to wait for epoxy to cure each time and sand what you do not want during the each process but I am sure it is better than getting irritated with soft material that doesn't hold the detail you like. Yeah color might be different but you can always put primer to see where it needs to be fixed. Also you probably need to use magnifying glass to work on. I ruined my eye sight that way making a 1/64 scale Corvette in my youth... Good luck
If you want to keep using Premiere, it helps to let your previous work dry completely before you go on to the next part. Also Premiere carves pretty well when it's dry, if you'd rather go subtractive.
