Skinny Jeans! For Unoa... A Work In Progress. (new photos Post #15)

Feb 7, 2008

    1. I'm working on a skinny jeans design for my Unoa. I thought it might be fun to log my progress and get some feedback as I go along. I found the most perfect light weight denim for the job. Here is the proto-type! (Please excuse the disaster I call a desk.)

They will be more low-rise when they are finished. They will also have functional front & back pockets, decorative top stitching, decorative eyelets and/or rivets (depending on what I can find in scale), a yoke in the back, belt loops... Basically I want to make them look as realistic as possible.

Right now I'm working on the shape and fit before I go into all the details. I'm having a little trouble with the crotch area, but I think I've gotten it worked out since these photos.

Sooo, yeah! There they are. Let me know what you think! They're not much yet, but I hope to surprise you. ;) I'll post more photos of my progress as I go along.

P.S. Back in 2006 I had some adventures in making pants for MSDs. I want to take what I learned back then to the next level. This will should give you a better idea of where my project is heading I guess. :) I'm also going to seriously learn how to use a sewing machine... Finally... (Yeah, see that needle and thread in the photos? That's what I've been using to make doll clothes since 2003...)

    2. yea the crotch is the first thing i notice but you said you were working on it ^_-
if your planning on adding all the extras you said you were why not make a tester pair of jeans out of some scrap fabric? instead of wasting your main fabric? that way you will know how they fit without going back and fitting them more

    3. They look great so far! I can't wait to see the finished result ^ ^

    4. plastikman: Yeah, the crotch is crazy... I'm trying to work it out so that my Unoa can sit in these pants without her butt showing. I want them to be tight, but if I make them too tight she can't sit. It's a challenge indeed!

I'm using the main fabric for the proto-type so I can use it for tests later on if I want to try any bleaching effects or other deconstruction details. That way I'll have a better idea of how it will look on a pair jeans rather than just on a scrap piece of fabric. I have a lot of this fabric, too, so it seemed worth it. Thanks for the tips, though!

kuro: Thanks! I really love making pants... But I haven't made any in a long, long time. My old MSD design, though functional, wasn't very good. I'm hoping my new Unoa pattern will come out much better!

Here they are again after I did some edits. :)

    5. They look amazing so far!! :)

    6. I think those look wonderful! I haven't attempted pants at all because I just can't make my mind wrap around how to put them together! But I am super impressed with these, and can't wait to see them finished.

    7. they look great! good job!

    8. These are looking great!
I'll be trying out some jeans soon... but I'm having the same issue as prnleia222...

    9. hahaha, I've been hand-sewing for my dollies since I started, too. :'P

I can't wait to see this finished! it looks like they're coming along very nicely. :'D

    10. So! Here's the first attempt. I was very happy with them until I realized that I made the fly all wrong. Basically I didn't make a fly at all. I agonized over it for awhile, staring at a pair of my own jeans, and I JUST NOW and an epiphany to how make a proper fly. So next time, I should get it right! I also had trouble attaching the waistband which is why it looks so sloppy. My biggest triumph is that I made them 100% on the sewing machine! And I learned how to do a mock-serge stitch on it so my seams are all finished on the inside!

      Goals for my next pair:
      - Get the fly right.
      - Figure out a better way to attach waistband.
      - Make belt loops!
      - Make the front pockets smaller.
      - Make designs on the back pockets.
      - Make yoke a little smaller.
      - Figure out how to top-stitch around the bum/crotch area.
      - Take nicer photos...

Thank you for all the kind comments and encouragement! :D

    11. I think they are great ... I am sure next time they will be perfect.

    12. I really like these... they look so... real. I think if you made those MSD jeans again, I would be unable to stop myself from buying them.... (But no, really, I wouldn't be able to stop myself. Those jeans in that other thread were incredible.)

I agree with the fly looking a little odd on this pair, but otherwise, they're amazing. I always get jealous of the Unoa owners, because I don't want an Unoa, and yet, the coolest clothes are made for them! They're clothes always look so much more like tiny real people clothes. I think you did an amazing job on that!

    13. OMG, great work! Keep on it, we mini fee and unoa owners are in dire need of good slender mini tailoring! I woud comission you for sure, your work seems detailed and all the effort and planning surely shows. Keep going!

    14. It looks very nice, I'd say.
It's just a simple pair of skinny jeans, but they're good!
I'm about to make some Unoa skinny jeans also (just finished the pattern)! :)

    15. Thank you so much everyone! :D
Sparrow: I think that's one of the reasons I was drawn to Unoa. The clothing is just great! And sewing for them is an absolute dream because they look good in just about anything. ;)
Nanyalin: I plan on making an entire line of clothing for our slender mini girls. :)
TiggTea: Good luck!!! You should post pictures when you're finished.

I took some nicer pictures today. So here they are!

I can't wait to get started on my next pair! I think I'll make a pair of shorts, though. Just until I get the fly/waistband right.

    16. How are you going on your pants?

    17. I haven't had much time to work on them. (I'm working on a huge, unrelated project that has priority at the moment.) But I will get back to them eventually! Thanks for asking. :)
