Simply Divine Discussion

Nov 22, 2011

1. Double posting with a question! What brand of eyes do you recommend using in your Harlequin head? I tried stuffing a bunch of pairs in him today and I've come to the conclusion that the only thing that will fit particularly well would be flat backs with a low dome, which I sadly don't have in the right size.:(

I did a concept faceup for my guy today too. Just need to wait until he gets a body so I can send him off somewhere to be painted.

2. Looks great, Astro! I am using 14mm Soom Silicon eyes, which fit really well. 12mm also works, but are too small for my personal taste.
My Andrej (the name stuck to him) has a wonderful face up meanwhile, but I am still waiting for his body ... sigh. I hope Spiritdoll will send it soon.

3. Congrats to all the new arrivals, it's great seeing everyone's concepts and work. :)

Your mock up looks lovely, Astro! Nicholas, my Harlequin, is wearing 14mm urethane EA Gumdrops and they fit fine.

4. Good to know that the eurethane eyes aren't too high-dome! I'm debating if I want to try ordering a pair of Kanis Augen glass eyes because I want a smaller iris, or if I want eurethane. >_< Oh well, that will have to wait until he gets a body anyway!

Ashemanu, will you show us pictures of your head anyway? I hope his body comes soon. I'm so excited for everyone!

Thanks! <3

5. Spiritdoll Proud seems like a good option for this head, but I'm actually thinking that the crazy big Herculean 75cm body might be a really interesting contrast. Not true to the original Andrej vision, certainly, but this head definitely has heavy enough bone structure to pull it off. Still have no idea who he is, but I'm hoping something will come to me once I've finished his mods and paint.

6. I think the hercluean body might be a bit too heavy? Would be kind of neat to see. I think my EID's neck is too large for is neck opening, otherwise I could go toss the head on him and we could find out.
But I'm definitely aiming for a Proud for this guy. I'm hopeful he won't be too dark for Spiritdoll's skintone and can be blushed to match instead of having to go the other way around.

Edit: One more question to those of you who've found eyes that fit. I tend to roll my doll's eyes up quite high (as seen in my mockup) are you able to do that with the eurethane eyes?
Thanks!

7. Hi Astro! Yes, I am able to do that with the urethane EA Gumdrops I use for Nicholas (I always prefer eyes to be someup "high" in my dolls' eye sockets also). See the photo I posted above, the eyes are definitely set higher in the eye sockets. I wouldn't say you'll have a lot of "white" underneath the iris part, but you can definitely position the iris to be "higher" under the eye lids. That said, I use 14mm, perhaps with 12mm, and the smaller irises size, you could have more "white" showing (although possibly the 12mm might prove to be a bit small horizontally, and be "gappy"). I can't say for sure, as I haven't tried 12mm in him yet.

8. I think the 12s may gap, but in that case I'll rip the sole pair of eurethanes (not the same brand as yours though, so they may have a higher dome!) I have in 12mm out of one of my other dolls and test them in the head.

Thanks so much!

9. I'm using a pair of Safrin doll silicone eyes. I think they're 13mm. So they're right in the middle.
I might recommend 14mm in silicone, only if you don't want the tiny gap by his eye well. I do like the size of the pupil/iris, though...

Astro, love the neck and body size you PSed [grrwl! xD]. The larger body size may suit him best, so I may just save like mad for the new Spiritdoll manly bodies, too.

• x 1
10. Ohhhh, those are the perfect iris size! I don't even notice much of a gap on your boy, but I think I might look into the 14s anyway if Safrin's iris size is generally small. Did you have to bevel the eyes or open the eye wells at all? I had some issues getting anything larger than a really small (like.. 10mm I think?) to fit in the wells nicely. ;A;

Are you thinking of doing the Herculean body or just the Proud? I'm hoping that both bodies match in size and color!

11. i am bringing the pictures over from the waiting room thread. if the waiting room thread gets deleted, i would not like to see these photos gone. these are the 'test paints' which were done by Sdink:

Simply Divine Harlequin head in Venetian Luna White resin as a brunette:

Simply Divine Harlequin head in Venetian Luna Rose resin as a blonde:

i do not know the eye size or the eye type in these photos. i think i did ask Sdink and she was not sure what the eyes were.

i have sent another Harlequin head out for paint. i gave the artist rather free reign and i look forward to seeing the artist's vision of him. when he returns home, he will be going on a cream Soom Super Gem body until his own body is ready.

12. Wow, Mathilda, he's great. I like the Simply Divine heads on the taller bodies. My Thomas is on a Luts SSDF. But that DT body looks superb with Harlequin. And his faceup is fantastic.

13. Wow, the Dollstown 18 body really is perfect for him! What resin colors match so well?

14. AnitaS thank you!
Face-up was made by Kettarisha, russian painter from Saint Petersburg :)

St. James - it really is, true!
Dollshe shoulders is small for Harly IMHO... But only dollshe's pale resin color is good comparing with Luna White of Hary's head. So I'v found that Dollstown is good decision :)
So here you see Luna White head on the pale body.
Also I heard that Luna Sunrise is good in match with dollshe oriental, but I had never seen such a kind of hybrid, to be honest. Neither in real life nor on photoes.

15. great combination. I have been looking on this head, but dident know how good it could be as a complete doll. Congratulation!

16. I have also the Harlequin head, he came back from a Faint Pulse face-up studio and now he waits for a body. I have to say that Venetian Luna Sunrise is a perfect match with Angel Studio Sun Tan resin (and also with Elfdoll Homme skin, but the body is too small), I compared it with my friends doll, sadly I had no my camera to picture it... I am also thinking about Ringdoll Grown RGM-2 body and just blush it, because this sculpt is extraordinary beautifull for me ^^

17. Prege - thank you! :)

AyuAna - Waiting for your photoes. It interesting how he will finally looks :)

18. These photos are making a Harlequin tempting! I think I'd aim to make him as androgynous as the real person if I take the plunge. Anyone else got a Thomas?

19. He's gorgeous! (He's making me rather ashamed of the face-up my Thomas has been saddled with! ...may have to redo it sooner than I thought I would!)

20. I have Thomas and Eve (and the SD small bust chest for the old SuperGem body with Eve), faced up by Jay Searle as Jean Paul and Lydia Devereaux, twins and plantation owners. I love them. I'm thinking of getting Harlequin too; just haven't decided if I want to deal with yet another white doll - I think he'd make a wonderful angel (in fact, I think someone has a Harlequin as an angel). (more photos of Thomas on Flickr)

Jean Paul and Lydia by wiggies2luv, on Flickr

21. Wow! I'm loving the period look you've decided on for these two! It really looks like they care for each other.

Here's a very old shot of my Thomas, Drax:
(Please ignore the rather terrible shot/clutter - uni makes for awkward accomodation issues!)
Perhaps unwisely he was the 1st resin doll I acquired, hence that's the 1st attempt at a realistic face-up I've ever done. It's not great, and I think the sculpt deserves much better, but the colour matching was a bit of a pain blushing-wise so I'm a bit leery of wiping him and trying again!

I'm also thinking of going a size down for his eyes - he's got some lovely 14mm glass eyes in with bright blue irises/black sclera; they're brilliant in person but I just can't get the camera to catch them!

22. Hiya!! Has anyone managed to get Luna Sunrise and Dollshe Oriental to match? It seems like most of you got the Luna White, and I'm interested in getting a Thomas, but the bodies I have available are Dollshe Oriental (new) and Senior Delf (1st release, they only had one skintone at the time, which started out closer to pinky-white but has mellowed. Definitely won't match the paper-white of Luna White!)

If so, I would LOVE to see photos!!

-- A <3

23. I have a Saint in Oriental skin on order that I can check against when he arrives if no one else is able to do so before that. (It'll probably be another few months OTZ)

24. Thanks, Astro!! (Hoping not to have to wait too long, because I'm not sure how many Thomas heads are going to be made, so I want to snap him up while I can, as long as I have a reasonable expectation of having a body for him . . . but it will be a useful comparison nonetheless, and I'd love to see it in this thread!)

-- A :D

25. Great to see a discussion of these heads. I've been curious about them for a while now (but of course, have been trying to resist because I have too many dolls already... but I have a feeling I won't be able to resist for long!). I find the sculpts of both Harlequin and Thomas heads just amazing.

Did SDink do the faceups on the 'official' photos? Those faceups just rocked!

I've seen some photos of a Harlequin on a Soom SG body that was for sale. I like the look of the SG body, but was thinking that the shoulders looked too narrow for the head (although probably just fine clothed). Are there photos that any of you have of the heads on various bodies that are a bit more unclothed --just to show how the heads look with the bodies?

26. The Harlequin head was really too large for the SG body. I sold mine because the original plan to fit it to a SG body just didn't work out no matter what camera angle I used, but I tried it on a few of the other large bodies in the house (most of our dolls are 70cm). It looked pretty good on the Dollshe DSAM32 body, but best on an 80cm body. The best proportions I've seen so far have been on the Dollstown 18yr boy body, especially since the smooth stylized sculpting of the musculature matches the facial sculpt very well. Most of the larger bodies tend to be too veiny/bodybuilder for the prettier Simply Divine faces.

27. April Yes, the promo (glue bottle) picture is by SDink, and I like my Harlequin head on bigger bodies--right now mine is on an Angelheim body (very affordable, very large). Please excuse the lack of combage here, someone wanted a size comparison between the SID body and the Angelheim body. Since I just got the Angelheim body, Harlequin is lacking clothes :o

28. St. James, do you happen to know what resin colors the person who matched a Simply Divine head to a DT 18yrs body chose?

(I am still really wanting to get one, but the lack of info on resin match with Dollshe/Dollstown is holding me back. I have an Orientalskin Dollshe body, but it's not stark white and I don't want to have to airbrush a Luna White SD head to match -- wish SD themselves would take some resin comparison photos, or even send the heads to DollsTown for casting!!)

I'm even willing to consider acquiring a DollsTown body at some point (although it will have to wait a few months, because my finances are pretty depleted at the moment), but I need to know which resin color I'd need in order to match Luna Sunrise (or Luna White, for that matter -- does DT even make a stark white?)

This is one of the many times that I wish we were all local to each other, so that we could have a big resin-comparison party and settle the matching question once and for all! ;)

*still sighing wistfully over Thomas*

-- A :/

P.S. Yes, April, SDink did the face-ups on at least two Thomas-es . . . it's her photos that first introduced me to these gorgeous guys!

29. Scroll up, Ashbet! He's Luna White/Paleskin and he's in this thread. :)

30. Hi Ashbet! Here's a studio comparison of the Volks Normal and the Harlequin Sunrise (I'll put a daylight one in the next post) I think these are from the Etsy comparison pix they send out...

Aaand a daylight one!

Mine is the Mighty White (luna White). He matches Resinsoul white, (the Long Elf body), a newer Mecha Angel (though they are variable) and the Angelheim WS guy he's on at the moment. I've heard Fantasy Doll now makes a big body and while I know the resin will match (they do a mighty white too) I am dubious about the style.

http://gypsyreggae.com/blogstuff2013/harlequinday.jpg

31. I'm really tempted by the Thomas head right now. He's so pretty.

32. Interesting stuff. Thanks for all the information.

Body-matching is always difficult for me... I was pretty hopeful when they said the head matched Soom SG bodies, since they are nice and not impossible to find... but oh, well!

Rather brilliant of SimplyDivine to get SDink faceups. I think I'd love almost anything SDink painted...!!!

Angelheim body looks good.

I should have recognized that SDink did those faceups. They are both fantastic! ... I just bumped into the heads on etsy and wondered why I hadn't heard about them before... but that was before DoA allowed discussion of non-Asian dolls.

Dollstown has "Paleskin" which is their white. I have a Fresh skin DT girl... she is very pale, slightly pink maybe. I'll have to check her against a Soom cream white to see how great the difference is...

33. I have Simply Divine Harlequin in Venetian Luna White resin and I think like Mathilda Vandermar that one of the best way to hybrid him is Dollstown 18 years body (pale skin if white). I got this body only yesterday and had no time to do extra photos yet, but I can make some photos with super gem or SSD if somebody need it :)

Technical hybrid picture. by afa187, on Flickr

34. I've also got mine on a DT18 body and it's perfect! Mine is a Luna Sunrise/Freshkin combination and they're very close in terms of color- the head is just a bit darker than the body, but most likely only needs highlights instead of a full blushing to make him match.
I just got the body today so I haven't had a chance to take photos or have him painted yet.
I'll take photos out in the daylight tomorrow. :>

To Ashbet: Oriental skin will definitely not work with the Sunrise skintone. (at least not with my head, I'm assuming that the color is pretty consistent across all of the castings)

Edit: Quick shot with flash. You can tell the head is a bit darker (more of a gray undertone, really) but it's really such an amazing match.

35. Those Dollstown bodies look so gorgeous under his head--they look like they pose well, too!

36. I was able to take more photos in better lighting of the Harlequin head in Luna Sunrise paired with a Dollstown 18 body in Freshskin. Depending on lighting the head is either very gray or a bit too pink, but in certain conditions the match appears perfect and with the proper faceup it won't be noticeable at all.

Size and height wise, I don't think you can go any smaller in the shoulders for this head.

37. Thanks so much for the confirmation -- it means I'm going to have to wait a while to get my Thomas (I don't have the budget for a DT18 body in my immediate future, so if he won't work with the body I have here, I need to temporarily shelve my plans), but it at least means that I didn't waste money and wind up sad about a mismatch!!

I *adore* the look of the SD heads on the DT18 body . . . I definitely think that's what I'm going for, when I can get the money together!

Thanks again -- and WOW, gorgeous boys!!

<3!

38. Wow, those DT 18 bodies look wonderful! The resin matches on both the ns and white are not bad. Thanks to both of you for posting these photos. It's nice to see them without clothes, to see how the bodies and heads go together. :)

I rather have to wait a while before I can think about ordering a Thomas and DT body... (already have two dolls on layaway...!) :(

39. Oof that is a GORGEOUS combo, I wish I had the budget for a DT18 in my future! Beautiful boys ♥

40. Astro, afa, mathilda - thank you for the photos. They are being most helpful. And what would you say about the head/neck connection...? Is it a perfect fit or does it need some improovement...? Has anyone got an SD Thomas head on the DT 18rs body...?

41. Hi guys! I'm thinking of getting myself a Thomas much, much, much later but I'm already looking for bodies that will fit him :)

Dollstown 18 yrs old body looks perfect but I'm afraid the price is too steep for me considering it's just a body. So my next option is the Granado Nuevo. Any idea if it'll look okay?

Will appreciate the help. Thanks :D

42. RedRibbon: It's a perfect fit on the Andrej head. The neck on the DT18 body is designed to accommodate heads with smaller neck openings without having to thin down the neck/make the opening larger at all. It has a little ledge and then the neck tapers off to allow for smaller neck holes. (sorry for making no sense, it's past midnight! *_*)

I don't know how big the Granado Nuevo is, but I don't think anything smaller than a DT18 (especially in the shoulder width-16.5cm/torso size- not on the site but I can measure if anyone's interested/overall height- about 75cm) will look right.

43. Hi guys I'm thinking of getting the Harlequinn head on a Spiritdoll Herculean body- does anyone know if it'll fit or will the Herculean just be way too large for the head? If Anyone has pics I will gift upon you my first born.

44. Would the Thomas head look okay on a Spiritdoll Proud body? *been mulling schemes to get more heads but not more bodies*

45. Here is the Harlequin head on a Granado Nuevo 68 cm body--I like the dollstown better!:

Also Harlequin here is WS and the Granado body is NS. Granado WS is actually a Creamy White with a hint of pink.

46. Thanks for the info guys! And yeah the Dollstown body looks better. :( But the Granado body is not as bad as I originally thought. :) Thanks for the photo, fishcake! :D

I'm also considering the Spiritdoll Proud / Popodoll 70cm so I'll also appreciate if someone can post a photo of those hybrids.

47. Herculean might work (especially with the Thomas head), I think the Proud will be too small. The Proud body was what I was initially planning to go with, but it's too similar in measurements to a Dollshe body for it to work.

48. ok, I might be able to fill a couple of those requests...I never think to look over there!

49. Simply Divine Thomas on a Spiritdoll version 1 body:

do not pay attention to the color matching. the body was a very odd color. the head which wound up on the body was eventually custom cast to match.

50. Oh hey the Spiritdoll body doesn't look so bad :D And the Proud body is a bit beefier than that body on the photo :)

I do think Thomas can pull off the Herculean body since he has a strong bone structure but the neck of the body is 13cm? Isn't that too big for Thomas?

51. So many bodies to choose from for Thomas, so little photo references available.

So Granado nuevo is scratched. Now my other options are Spiritdoll Proud, Popodoll 70cm, LoongSoul 73.5cm, and Ringdoll 72cm. *_*

52. ...Hmm having to completely reblush my Thomas completely every time I want to alter his face-up is getting a little tiresome now... So I'm contemplating swapping out his body for one with a better resin match...

Soo he's the white skin Thomas, and is currently on a pink skin DollZone 72cm. Do you think he'd look good proportion-wise on a Pure White new muscular 72cm Dikadoll? Hmm I might even upgrade to jointed hands...

53. It's a Simply Divine "part" instead of a head, but I have a pair of sort-of-prototype hooves--they are designed to go on the old Super Gem male bodies and they work great. The new ones available now are cast in Venetian Luna White ("mighty white") instead of the Sunshine and black I have here.

The black was really hard to cast, according to Steinsculpture, with lots of bubbling. She wasn't even happy with these...but I sure was ;) If I tightened Balthazar here up (He is Mr. Noodle now) he stands quite well in them, even though he is actually an Impldoll Star body with a Sphaler head. (The Impl knees were made at one time to match the Soom knees).

It's finally warm enough here to take photos outside without a parka. :)

54. This is Venetian Luna White Simply Divine Harlequin on a cream white Soom Mecha Angel body. He has Heliot God Master hands and knee down Soom Sard hooves.

His top hat is Simply Divine.

55. Is that Pulse? You should do a close up of his face, he's so pretty!

56. fishcake: yes! that is the Pulse Harlequin. Hair, wig, eyes, paint all by Pulse. I think that he is not the only Harlequin she has painted.

Here is a closer photo of him:
