Simple STORYTELLING

"As he came to, he took a moment to assess his surroundings. He carefully scaled down the shelf and went exploring, having decided there was nothing of interest on his shelf."

 

"From the floor he spied up at the person laying in the bed. Who was she and why was so she so big? He thought, 'maybe she is a giant!?' "

 

"He immediately jumped onto the bed and inspected her. 'She looks similar to me but without the joints!' He thought, and started poking at her face for further investigation."

 

"He looked at all the medical equipment and cords that seems to be connected to her. She had a look of exhaustion and sadness that even tortured her as she slept. 'What could be bothering her?' he thought.

 

His curiosity won and he started checking out the equipment. As he touched on of the buttons, an alarm went. Frightened by the sound he took a few steps back and when he looked to the side, he found himself being gazed at by two big green eyes....

 

"The girl had to adjust her eyes, she wasn't too sure of what she was looking at. Could this possibly be happening, was this reality, or had she finally died and this was her heaven, well maybe not heaven(or whatever is beyond death for others, not wanting to offend), but was her doll her death's guide?"

 

She blinked a few times, to see if the living doll in front of her would still be there of she reopened her eyes. He was. Meanwhile the doll, started to panic; the Code ruled that he wasn't allowed to be seen alive by human eyes.

 

"Don't tell anyone about me, please!" he begged. "If you do, I'll have to leave you forever." He gazed up at the girl, sadness in his eyes.

Ryu

 

"I....I won't....," the girl stuttered, still doubting whether she was fully awake or not. The doll sighted of relief. "What's your name?" the girl whispered.

 

The male doll lost his look of worry and concentrated "Kita.. Yes m-my names Kita." He smiled at the girl who felt a pang of hope and... Something else she couldn't quite recognise. "Hello Kita, my name's Sugita, but you can call me Sugi." Sugi paused and thought.. "Is this normal? She asked "I mean coming to life..."

 

"Well..." Kita gazed upon her, fascinated and confused. "...Sort of. I mean, we're all sentient, but we're supposed to remain silent. It's safer that way." It was easy to get lost in the depths of her eyes or the imperfections of her skin.

 

"What do you mean safer? Is there someone trying to harm you? And you said 'we're all' so more of you are like this...alive I mean?" Sugi said as she blushed and sat up and tried to fix her hair and make herself presentable. Why was she doing that, it's not like he was human...and was less than half her size.

 

Kita put a reassuring hand on her leg. "Don't move so fast, you might hurt yourself." He stated, a twinkle in his eye. Sugi blushed again but relaxed under his touch. "To answer your second question, yes most dolls like us can walk and talk and are alive just like you. Did you ever wonder how we have such an effect on some humans?" Though Kita's smiled soon disappeared once he stated "and for your first question, yes. It's one of the oldest laws of human nature. If they find something they deem strange or out of the ordinary." Kita paused and cased his gaze over the equipment and wires surrounding the oddly beatiful girl. "They want to experiment on it..."

 

Sugi's eyes were filled with disgust by the thought of what they would do to Kita if they found out. "I won't tell," she whispered. She noticed Kita watching the equipment she was hooked up to.

 

Sugi sighed. "I'm very sick," she explained. "But the doctors have hope that I'll recover. And when I do, I'm going to take you to all kinds of fun and cool places, okay?" she asked, blushing slightly.


Ryu

 

Kita grinned "That sounds amazing!" He exclaimed "Though in the mean time I'll keep you company in here, it must get dreadfully boring. Do you ever get any visitors?" He asked "What about your parents?" A shadow of pain flickered over Sugi's features and Kita was terrified he had made her cry, though she quickly composed herself and replied "My parents died when I was very young, so I was sent to an orphanage. I made a few close friends but I fell ill just before the start of school and they quickly stopped visiting me, you know school work and all that." Sugi's voice hitched and she quickly wiped her eyes "They didn't want to visit me for too long as I might have gotten too attached, and they knew I was going to be in here for a long time..."

 

Kita felt sorry for the girl in front of him. "I'll be here a long time too... WITH you" he said while he looked her in the eyes. They both smiled and went silent for a short while.

 

"Really you would do that? I mean I don't want to trouble you Kita!" She said with such hope showing in her face.

 

"Its no trouble, after all, you're my caregiver, right? Kita smiled warmly.


Ryu

 

"Me a caregiver? I never have been someone's caregiver before...what if I can't do it...or what if I don't know how to do something?" She started to worry a bit looking around the room, afraid that one of the nurses would enter because she had started to get loud.

 

Then they heard footsteps in the hall coming closer. They stopped at her door. "Are you alright miss?" A voice said

 

Sugi's eyes widened. "Oh no you need to hide!" Sugi panicked and alomost threw Kita under the blankets! She started to blush fiercly because she had forgotten that under the cover she had only a short nightgown on. 'Please don't let him see my underwear!" she thought

 

Kita quickly ducked under the covers just in time blusing fiercely as Sugi replied "Yes don't worry, everything's fine." Kita was about to come out from his hiding place when he heard another voice come from the door, a man this time. "Sorry ma'am routine check" he said shoving the nurse out of the way. He shouted to his men behind him "Is this the room? The one with the bjd life sign in?!"

 

'What!?' Sugi thought so worried her mind started to race. "W-what is a bjd? What life sign?" She gripped the blankets tighter to her, hoping she could hide Kita even better, 'God please don't let them find him!' She thought all flushed.

 

Concentrating on the device Sugi could now see in one of the henchmans hands she felt all the worry and embarrassment all at once. It seemed to do the trick as the machine malfunctioned and started beeping a lot slower than before. "Looks like it isn't the room boss." The henchman replied. "Fine." The chief growled, he turned to the nurse and then to Sugi "Sorry for the bother." He said curtly before briskly walking off, his henchmen following close behind.

 

The nurse shook her head and took a look at some of the screens on the devices Sugi was hooked up to. "Good night miss." She said to Sugi, who could only smile back. Then the nurse left too.

 

"W-who were they?" She whispered worried that those men would come back. "Eep! Kita a-are you alright?" She remembered and flung back the covers, once the nurse was gone.

 

Kita looked up at her, shaking but with a smile on his face. "I don't know what you did, but thank you so much." Kita said his voice braking. Sugi quickly wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tight. She couldn't bare seeing her friend in such a fragile state.

 

"Could you please tell me who those men were and what they were doing?" Sugi whispered to Kita. "We're they....we're they after you...to....to....." Sugi''s voice broke down. The possibility of that awful thought being true, was just too.much for her to say out loud.

 

Kita hung his head. "If they would have found me, I'd either be experimented on...or disassembled and left to rot. I think the second one is worse, especially since I'd be awake the entire time." Kita shuddered at the thought.

Ryu

 

"Oh my god......" Tears ran down on Sugi's cheek. "I......I'll try my best to protect you. " she hugged him tighter, as if she was afraid of Kita disappearing.

 

In the weeks that followed, Kita stayed by Sugi's side during her stay in the hospital. As the days past, the girl seemed to improve and sometimes she was even allowed in the garden by wheelchair to enjoy the fresh spring air. Kita always sat on her lap.

 

There was panic running wild in Kita's mind. What was he supposed to do? How was he supposed to get inside without getting caught? What if those men returned, then what?

 

Kita deliberated worriedly in the boys arms, what should he do? He needed to get to Sugi fast, anything could happen. The boy ran to his mom but when she saw the doll in his hands she wasn't happy. "What is that!?" She exclaimed "Terrifying! Put it back this instant!"

 

"No!" The boy shouted, but he finally gave up under his mother's forceful order. Kita sighted silently in his mind, and felt glad that the mother wasn't the type of parents who always say yes to their kids. After Kita made sure there is no one else in the garden, he started making his way back to Sugi's room.

 

"Dude! What's that?!" Shouted a heavy voice from behind. Kita started running towards the bushes. Well hit he dared to look in the direction from where the voices came from.

 

"Its running, whatever it is," he heard the voice say to another person.

"I could have sworn I saw a small person running," the first voice said.

"It has to be your imagination," the second voice said. "What kind of small person could run like that? A kid would be with their parent."

Ryu

 

"Yeah, I guess you're right," the first voice replied, slightly dissapointed.
"Maybe it was your drink!" The other one joked and both started laughing.
Kita, who was still watching them, sighted silently of relief. He realised he had to be more careful if he wanted to make it to Sugi save.

 

Kita wandered off, making sure that no one would see him as he went back to the familiar bushes. Sitting on the ground, he mourned the death of his first friend. Looking to the sky, he cried out, "Now what am I supposed to do?"

Ryu

 

"Come with me of course," a female voice answered. Kita jumped up as if he was stung by a bee. When he turned around he saw a gorgeous doll behind him.

 

She was slightly taller than him, her beautiful black hair was well styled and her purple eyes, looks like there's diamonds in them, are glittering under the sunshine. "Why do you look so surprised?" She smiled, "I am Eva."

 

"I'm Kita". Kita replied. "Sorry, got caught up in my thoughts..... Rough night." He voice sounded sad as he looked away from Eva. She walked up to him and hugged him. "Looks like you need one of these."

 

"She....she....KNOWS?" Kita asked, completely flabbergasted by the thought the doll in front of him was 'allowed to go on walks on her own'.
"Yeah, she does." Eva answered. "I kinda let myself go last night. She totally broke after hearing about the death of her cousin. Wanted to be there for her like she has always been for me."

 

... The words being spoken sounded mumbled and distant to Kito, he was deep in his own personal thought. A whole world had opened up to him, he stared longingly at the beautiful bright moon above and realised he had a world of his own to discover. After thanking his new acquaintance, he started walking....

 

"Wait, where are you going? It's too dangerous to be alone, especially now that I can see you are new to this." Eva called after him, running up carefully next to him. "It'd be much safer if we went to go find Andreja." She said looking around for any drunks or just people walking this late at night.

 

Kita followed the beautiful doll until she lead him to a bush near the hospital's door.

"Andreja will find us here. She might not be expecting you, but I don't think she'll mind taking you home. Just remember, she will be mourning the loss of her favorite cousin when she returns," Eva reminded him. Kita nodded, his own eyes filled with tears.

Ryu

 

After almost an hour of awkward silence, a lady clad in a Rococco-inspired ensemble appeared from the hospital door. Eva solemnly smiled and gestured for Kita's attention.
"There she is."
Andreja gracefully knelt down and was about to pick up Eva, when she saw Kita.
"Hello, there. It seems that this is the first time we've met. My name is Andreja, and you are?"

 

" about to sink my Vampire fangs into your neck, and drink greedily"!!!!!!!
Andrea screamed.... Kito Howled in delight, at this unbridled fear which he had unleashed.
Eva started to tremble....

 

...and Kita began to laugh. "Gotcha!" he shouted, then sat on the ground and began to cry as the day's events finally overwhelmed him.

"You poor thing, and I didn't speak to you all the time we were together. I'm so sorry," Eva said in a soft voice.

Ryu

 

Jules had woken up, It was dark but there was a faint light shinging through what looked like...'rubble?' Jules thought. Jules started to clim upwards towards the light and used what strenth he had to push the small rocks of of the whole he was in. As Jules climbed out his eyes wideden in disbelief at the post apocalyptic setting that lay there before him.

 

"Jules! Where are you?" he heard a male voice call out. His human caregiver, Marcus, looked under rocks and branches, calling out as if he expected his doll to answer.

"Oh no, Jules, did you get lost?"

Ryu

 

Jules heard his name being called faintly, but from which direction? Jules couldn't think straight and when he turned he could see Marcus but he was going in another direction, away from him. "Marcus! I'm right here! I'm behind you!" Jules yelled trying to run across the rocks to get to his caregiver.

 

Somehow hearing the doll's small voice amid the sound of falling rubble, Marcus turned around to see a small hand in what was once their home. Digging carefully, the human unearthed the small body. Picking him up, Marcus clung to the doll, who seemed to cling back.

"We have to help find survivors!" Marcus told Jules. "I know you can walk as well as talk, so you'll have to get into the small spaces I can't and find others, okay?"
