Hello, everyone! I'm looking into patterns to make for my arriving Honey Delf and only have access to hand sewing tools. I was hoping to get some simple patterns and/or tutorials, preferably dresses. Thank you for your help and patience.
This tutorial on Deviant Art is good, but requires having the doll you are making the dress for on hand. DG Reqieum has some nice patterns.
Hey! Do you have sewing experience? If so, and you just want patterns, feel free to skip this comment... For making a dress, you really just need a waist measurement and a shoulder to waist measurement from the doll, and then you could look up free human sized dress patterns, zoom in or out on your computer screen to get the waist dimension correct, and trace lightly onto a piece of paper! Dresses can easily be made of just a front and back piece, and embellished with some frills if you want to take it a step further on the sleeve opening or bottom hem Of course, if you have those measurements, you could always try searching "free doll dress pattern" on google and see what shows up as well! I've found all sorts of nice patterns that way for stuffed animals. If you're not sure of the exact sizing, you could try making a jumper dress (flared skirt dress) out of stretchy materials, which might give you enough leeway between the dolls actual sizing and your guess for it to fit whether or not you get it exactly right.
Which body are you getting? I have the type 5 and it's on the chubbier side compared with volks and soom teenie gem. But I find that most Yo-SD patterns fit. If you got the type3 (multi body) then Yo-SD should fit just fine.
I have the type 3 multibody. That's good to know! Thank you for the tutorial and patterns! Thank you for all the details. I am new to sewing (well, I used to sew when I was a kid but it's been at least 15 years) so I appreciate the tips!
I find that clothes for Helen Kish Bitty Bethany and Tonner Ann Estelle dolls fit Yo-SD sized BJD, so you may want to google to find patterns for those dolls, such as this one https://www.scribd.com/document/466738055/tinyheirloom-pdf There are also bound to be a lot available in PDF from from Etsy And I've hand sewn several outfits in this size using patterns from the book A Closetful of Dolls Clothes by Rosemarie Ionker as projects to work on while travelling.
