Alright so the other day I was watching a tutorial on how to use the silicone I'm planning to buy for mold making (it's local, and they made tutorials for it, pretty nice) And well, there was a tip I've never seen in any of these forums or tutorials: pour the resin slowly and from a high distance (from a corner, not directly over the piece) so the hit makes the bubbles break. Is this legit? Has anybody ever heard of this? Won't it air the silicone more? Though the mold they were making came out fine, and I don't know why would they make incorrect tips on their own tutorials for their own products.
Completely legit. You'll get air bubbles introduced into the silicone as part of the mixing process. Pouring from a height means that the silicone is dragged into a very fine ribbon, and many of those bubbles will pop. It's not 100% and it's not as good as a proper degassing, but it does work. You can try it yourself with a thick liquid to see how it works, without wasting silicone - dish soap works well.
