Repair Shoe/sandal/geta strap repair?

Oct 22, 2023

    1. Got a pair of geta with silicon(?) straps that has, with age, snapped. I don't think there's any easy ways to it. I'd like to have some proper fabric straps instead. I'm guessing you'd have to pry them apart...
But if anyone got any suggestions I'd still like to hear them!
Even better if anyone knows of someone who does extensive repairs!

Or is this a "commission a new pair" situation?

    2. I don't think it's a terribly difficult fix - a new strap could be sewn onto the inner side of the strappy part of the geta, behind where those little golden buttons are. It won't look as neat from the inside as with the silicone straps but will not be visible while worn anyway.

    3. You could probably use a mini hair elastic to act as a fastener, I use them for other doll shoes. looped around the ankle, crossed, then under the heel and it keeps them in place.

      Thanks! <3

Does it look ok though? I mean, isn't it quite noticeable (especially with socks on as well)?

    5. So, I mainly use this method on barbies they're a bit small, so from a distance you can't really see the band. I just tried it on my big girl (1/3) and it seems the band likes to migrate to where the joint is, but I think depending on the sock it may just look like a crease in the fabric

I will admit though my eyesight isn't the best and I can't see very far without glasses but for picture taking purposes it seems like it wouldn't be that hard to photoshop? Stability wise that shoe isn't going anywhere until the band breaks. I use clear scrunci elastics.
