Shipping (your own) bjd characters?

Of course. Well, mine at least ended up together in the end
But I have a few characters i do like to 'ship' even if i don't have all of them fleshed out in doll form just yet. Its always fun to picture the possibilities outside their intended stories.

 

I mean... I have characters that are together, but I don't really "ship" them? Like...they're just together. My stories don't really grow by themselves or anything, I know what characters I want and I make them. Like for Aelic's boyfriend, I made the character and then was like "Ah, he'd be really cute as Aelic's boyfriend..." So it happened!

I do love thinking of cute little senarios and stuff with my OCs that are together, like what their favorite date would be or how they'd react in certain situations that don't really have to do with their story. So I guess that's kind of like shipping? i don't really know. :P

 

Usually. It's a lot easier to make content with yourself, then relying on others to work with you.
Most of my dolls aren't in relationships, though. I find it more fun to have them just be friends.

That said, I do love to work off other people! It's lots of fun. I'm pretty lucky to have some good friends who are into both role play and dolls, so we usually end up with our characters as friends, in the very least. Sometimes lovers.

 

I've found that making my dolls in pairs/couples actually really helps me with character building! Though right now I only have half of my two main couples... The others will be shelled, though, so I count it! Otakar and Vit are one of my favourite of my couples, and I ship them so much. (Though I'm not sure if it counts as shipping if I'm the one in charge of the story...) Their relationship is very sweet, even though it did start with Vit nearly executing Otakar... Tian is a very new character for me, but him and Hideyasu's relationship is really fun to play with! Tian is too innocent for Hideyasu.... Hideyasu doesn't deserve such a good boy...

My girl dolls (at least currently) get no lovers. Though, Fuyu may or may not be dating a friend's doll... So maybe it's just Dagny.

 

I'm guilty of this in the most hilarious way actually. I'm in the midst of shelling characters from a sci-fi novel I'm writing, and a big goal of the novel is to have no romance, since so much sci-fi lets romantic storyarcs take center stage while the actual science fiction gets left out. But damn I sure ship two of the characters hard. I as the author would never put them together cause it doesn't work in multiple respects, but I as the overzealous fan? There will definitely be a couple self indulgent photoshoots and "fan fiction" :P I'm just going to do my utmost to keep it out of the novel, though I'm sure some subtext will slip in unintentionally.

 

My characters have minds of their own. Seriously they are like snobby actors or players in d&d that refuse to go with the story. I have three sets of characters I kinda ship but have no clue if they end up together or not.

One is my from Freya/Em and a soul she reaped that decided to stay with her instead of crossing over or being reincarnated naked Nicholas.

The other is my ronin who is accidently transported to a different realm in modern times, and the hacker who befriends him.

And the last is my boy Joel, who I own, and his soulmate Nina, who I dont own yet. He doesn't want to be in a relationship for various reason but fate keeps trying to make them both live out their destinies.

 

It drives me crazy, happens in my writing as well. I've had to restart so many plots because they just were so uncooperative.

 

The only couple I have where both are mine are Parker and Jack, and Jack was created for Parker.

Others...sometimes. I roleplay my characters with others, and that's really their only story. I don't do novels or anything like that. I write my own backgrounds for them and sometimes plan out specific events, but I don't often write the future because their development in RP could change the outcome or they may outgrow each other as characters.

Funny thing, I've wanted Luc to have a partner for over a year now. In RP, it just seems no one has compatible characters to date him, and the few who do aren't looking for relationship RP with those characters. So I tried making him a partner. FOUR times. First was Erica. I got her in a trade, intended to pair them, then Erica ended up paired with a friend's doll instead. Then I started to bring back my old OC Sixx for Luc and realized what they do have in common wasn't enough to outweigh the incompatible parts. Then I got Jubilee and put her with Luc for about a month, got bored with her because she was too sweet/shy and it wasn't interesting. Most recently, I've considered pairing Gemma with him, but I'm not sure I want to do that...I find having both characters in the couple greatly affects my RP, like if they make time to be alone together, that's time I can't play either with other people. Sometimes I even think he'd be cute with Lakin, but Lakin is not into guys at all, and I'm not changing his character. So poor Luc remains single, even though I don't prefer that.

 

Well I don't have enough on topic dolls at the moment to ship them (I mean I guess I could ship him with himself..?) But considering that my name is a pun about a ship and that my friend calls me shipyard (all the shipping puns) I think yeah, if I had another doll in the same scale the ship would sail.
As for my OCs that I'd love to shell, there are so many ships. So many. Like, to the point where I'd need to be a kingdom to use my entire navy of ships.

 

Yea with a lot of my doll stories I just kinda let them tell me instead of getting my hopes up on a plot or story to bot be able to do it

 

Well...my dolls' characters were pretty established before I shelled them, and I already had them paired up. Three sets of my OC dolls are in/or will be in committed relationships. My most notable are Tahmos/Aqqen

Some of them...they're based on existing characters, a couple of which I do actually ship (in series). I haven't got all four of them completed yet, so they're not physically established yet. They will be eventually

 

My dolls are primarily shelling existing characters, so any pairing up had, generally, already happened by the time I started buying them as dolls. I do have a few "pairs" around, though.

With my OCs, rather than a pair, I have something of a "V," one character with two partners (who aren't involved with each other, but do know about each other). I got all the dolls in a pretty tight window (one was the first I got, and both partners were ordered at the same time as part of a sales promotion), and typically keep them posed near each other.

With the fan characters, that's a little different story. I had the intent for one of them for a long time (as well as parts that aren't actually even used anymore), but stalled out on putting him together, and then on the hobby in general. During that break, I was in an RP, playing the same character, where he ended up in a relationship with another character in that game; when I came back to the hobby and decided to finish that character doll, I ended up deciding to pair him up with his partner from that game. Again, the "shipping" already existed before I got the dolls, though. I've since fleshed them out into a larger group, and in the process I've created partners for a few of the other characters, but that's still far more of a situation of the characters existing before the dolls, since in general, I'm buying the dolls specifically to fit the characters I've created to fill those roles.

I guess I never considered it shipping (except for the few couples I can never make canon, like Grim and Jo, or Grim and Morte, or that one night stand Azrael had with Katherine) but I do have a lot of couples. One relationship I'm deeply invested in is Balik and Rina's, largely because Balik is my favourite doll and character, and Rina is a big scary assassin who needs someone to save her from herself (and my oldest character, I started writing about her eleven years ago) Tacet and Atonia are another of my favoured relationships, because Tacet's relationships with everyone else are so toxic, but for some reason these two work.... Tacet really just needed a girlfriend, I guess. I can't wait to get home from this trip and photograph them (and get Atonia painted... yikes it's been too long...)

 

With Vince, the opposite happened-- I thought when I first bought him that I would get him a boyfriend eventually, he was not at all interested. So even though Marigold exists in a totally different world, as far as character stuff goes, I feel like she and Vince need to be Ace buddies. I keep thinking 'I should shell these OCs whose relationship means so much to me so I can take shippy doll pictures' and it keeps not turning out like that.
